Is it true that the difference between Let me in and Let the Right one In, is that one is a movie about kids that happens to have vampires in it, and the other one is a movie about vampires that happens to have kids in it?

That sucks.

No.  Got that from GAF I take it?  The remake is awesome and takes great cues from the original.  Fuck the haters.  It's not the Hollywood sacrilege most people are making it out to be.  In a lot of ways, it's even closer to the book than the original movie.

Top Gun II: Gay Harder

Quote
Reinflate your beach volleyballs, don your aviators, and apply some Coppertone to your shaven chests, lads, for the sequel to Top Gun is nigh! Vulture has learned that Paramount Pictures has made offers to both producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott to follow up their action classic, and has a missile lock on Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) to update the script, one in which Tom Cruise’s Maverick would play a smaller role.
Quote
But we’re told by a source close to the project that McQuarrie — who is friendly with Cruise — has found a way to incorporate Maverick, and what’s more, we hear that Cruise has agreed to take a smaller role in the film, provided it’s not too “obvious” a part, i.e. Lieutenant Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell as grizzled Top Gun flight instructor.

I saw Princess and the Frog recently and I thought it was pretty good. Almost halfheartedly revived my childhood dream of working for Disney. Disney 2d does that to me.

What do you need subs for? It's in English.

Also, they make a big deal about the cartoon angle and there's only like ONE cartoon wolf in the whole movie and he only appears for about fifteen seconds. LAME.

Warner loaned them the money in exchange for some rights above and beyond what they already had, and MGM is apparently getting some money from other studios as well.

But it's NOT greenlit yet. They won't officially announce that until the union bullshit is sorted out.

Night of the Demons 2010- I loved the original film to death. Yeah it's bad but it always makes for a great campy horror watch. To my surprise the remake is actually very good and sticks very close to the spirit of the original without aping it completely. This is pretty much going to be my Trick r' Treat of this year (where in a time of crappy horror and remakes a decent one comes out but is sent straight to dvd instead). The film is still in good camp, the actors play their roles well (even the chubby Edward Furlong seems to be having fun), Linnea Quigley has a brief cameo, the boob scene is back with a slight twist (and thankfully non-CGed), there's anal demon sex, titty tearing, and more demony fun!

Was it just me or did they play it "safe" with the 3rd movie? I went and dragged the misses to the movie and while we both enjoyed it we both thought it was not as outrageous as we'd hoped for.

That was inevitable. I remember reading reviews of Jackass 2 and how the only way they could top it was killing somebody. It's pretty clear they went a lot softer on the physical stunts.

How to Train Your Dragon

Pretty great movie, definitely Dreamwork's best and proof that they don't have to rely on pop culture references. The movie is at its best when it's not try too hard to be funny [which it does still do from time to time] and when it focuses on the inherent awesomeness of having and flying a dragon. The animation is great [especially during the flight scenes and the well-done action scenes] and the music really, truly good. The only real knock against it is the story, it's basically the standard, time-worn "social awkward kid whose dad thinks he's a loser uses his special skill to save the day and everyone likes him at the end" that get uses quite often. Actually, it's dangerously close to being a ripoff of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, just with some Viking window-dressing and dragons instead of food. Everything else helps to smooth this over, but its noticeable [especially in some of the later scenes where it becomes very predictable].

However, there was one turn of the story that I liked. At the end, the main character
spoiler (click to show/hide)
losing his leg in the final battle was pretty gutsy on Dreamwork's part. So props for that.
[close]

It actually starts to make sense that this is one of Dreamworks best when you realize it was written and directed by some of the same people who wrote and/or directed Lilo & Stitch, Mulan, Alladin, The Lion King, and Beauty & the Beast.

I'd really like to see this, but it seems to only be in limited release right now.

How to Train Your Dragon was pretty good, probably the only movie I've seen in theatres in 3D that didn't leave me feeling like I wasted money.

Over the past few days I've seen Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, The Battle of Algiers, and 12 Angry Men. All three were outstanding.

What?

John Lasseter apparently thought it was "too quirky for its own good". He and some other Disney/Pixar directors watched a rough cut and gave some suggestion to Chris Sanders. He refused to change anything and was subsequently fired.

It was an okay movie.  Had some really funny parts.  But as a whole?  Man, it bailed out of the funny part of the movie into the "everyone learns a lesson" part way too soon.
