if the story permits, why is getting back those three actors such a bad things?  it's not like they're going to be the stars of the movie, lol if you think disney would allow that

They aren't. The movie focuses on

Avengers was about as comic book-y as a movie should be.  Snyder doesn't get the form, and Nolan just doesn't like the form.

:hump

See you get it.  The closest Nolan came to making a comic book movie was Batman Begins.  The other two were just convoluted crime thrillers starring some guy who dresses like a bat.  At least TDK had Ledger having fun.  TDKR has...uh...plot holes?

It's not that I don't like Nolan films. I think there's room for Avengers and TDK in comic book films.

It's just that I dislike how many modern comic book movies fail to get the appeal of comics. It's like they're ASHAMED of their comic book roots. Avengers was the first comic book film I saw that actually felt like a comic book.

I didn't feel like that.  The entire time I watched it I kept thinking "oh there's a Wheedon cliché.  Whoop, there's another Wheedon thingy.  Oh, the awkward bumbling side character that becomes a hero?  So Wheedon."

It's basically a really good Wheedon flick.

Batman Begins is completely forgettable. I wouldn't even call it a super hero movie because it doesn't feature a "super hero" or a super villain. Bale is pretty bad as Batman to the point that it doesn't feel like a Batman film, the action is forgettable (and very poorly edited/choreographed), and the villains are boring.

TDK has plenty of cheesy dialogue but then again so do most superhero comics. It features a stellar performance from Ledger that carries the film, and even makes up for that shitty Two Face scene with Gordon.

TDKR starts shitty, recovers a bit, then nosedives in the final act culminating with Batman dragging a nuclear ticking bomb through Gotham and somehow flying it far enough away from the city's coastline to avoid any damage (in 15 seconds). Catwoman sucks and Bane is completely forgettable. There should have been a scene to demonstrate that he's an intelligent guy; perhaps he should have commented the design brand of a rich guy's suit, then explained it as "the benefits of a classical education." Boom, that alone would convince me that he was a smart guy who couldn't be fucked with.

:lol

I like TDKR, but the final act was the only part that really disappointed me.  All the exposition was completely wasted.  The final fight between Batman and Bane is like a dry orgasm.  The fight in the sewers was awesome so maybe it set the bar too high for another hand to hand fight.  It just felt so rushed.  Like Nolan was just going through the motions of what we expected.  Big clash of good guys vs bad guys to free the city?  Check. Batman vs Bane fist fight? Check.  Lame twist? Check. Hero saving the day? Check. All in 10 minutes

The timeline itself is the problem, they set it right after the first 6 and now they will have to re-reference events in the first 6 and re-explain shit to new audiences, you will roll your eyes. Getting a clean break would have avoided this and now the inevitable Sith reveal will be one giant asspull as there were fuck all left. I mean Darth would have told Luke if there were some Sith left, only reasonable thing they can do is turn one of the Jedi luke trained or Luke himself and that is YAWN

if they're using the original actors, it's set something like 30 years after return of the jedi.  the original trilogy spanned five years or so.  30 years is long enough for luke skywalker's kids to have kids.

And again, thats a very small pool for a Sith Lord and apprentice to come from, and again there are going to be daddy issues involved. (Unless they decide to make a bounty hunter the antagonist, which would be cool but also piss on you guys 'bu, bu, bu THATS NOT STAR WARS' theory

Setting it a scant 30~ years after Return of the Jedi limits them heavily and unnecessarily so, if they were intent on sucking Skycock they could have done so 2000 years down the line too.

At the end of Return of the Jedi there is only 1 force user in the galaxy - Luke.

So everything, kids, OTHER people he trains, they all come from him. They have to. Thats my point.

this is getting into absurd 'How would light sabers work?' territory but if using the Force is a trainable skill dependent on physical potential that a large number of the humans in the gene pool at the time of the original trilogy have already demonstrated, then there is no reason not to expect those traits to manifest themselves widely across the rest of humanity (which must number in the hundreds of billions at least across all those planets).

Not to mention the fact that there are non-human Force users out there too. So yeah, light sabers for all!

When the Force was a myserious, spiritual sorta thing, you'd expect people to connect to it randomly.  But after midichlorians, something that can be quantified in a blood test?  I don't know how they're meant to work (I'm sure it's explained further somewhere, but I haven't bothered with the SW EU since about middle school) but you figure they're either like really benign bacteria, or something produced by the body.  Either way, you'd expect it to be heritable, with a certain amount of variation.

So after there's a genocide against the Jedi and the kids they had identified as future Jedi, you'd expect the pool to be a lot thinner.

But really, it's sci-fi, so they could resolve this a billion different ways.  Some Jedi managed to lay low like Yoda and Obi-Wan!  There are aliens/environments/machines which dampen or mask the Force!  When the Jedi were killed the midichlorians dispersed to find new hosts!  Luke was having gobs of unprotected sex off screen and has a few dozen bastard trainees already!

Yeah but the Sith were an actual race of people.

To magically spring up the race need to not be extinct and go on and teach some other frackers their ways. All roads lead to a Luke apprentice/family member turning. So it's a story of a Jedi gone rogue. Again.

I always viewed midichlorians not as organisms that enable someone to use the force, just organisms that are able to thrive in a force rich environment. The stronger you are in the force, the more hospitable your body would be to midichlorians.

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-03-07/how-disney-bought-lucasfilm-and-its-plans-for-star-wars#p1

Quote
*“Asked whether members of the original Star Wars cast will appear in Episode VII and if he called them before the deal closed to keep them informed, Lucas says, ‘We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ He pauses. ‘Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.’”

*”In May 2011 Iger met Lucas for breakfast at the Hollywood Brown Derby, one of Disney World’s restaurants…Iger inquired whether Lucas would ever consider selling his company. Lucas replied that he’d recently celebrated his 67th birthday and was starting to think seriously about retiring… ‘I’m not ready to pursue that now,’ he told Iger. ‘But when I am, I’d love to talk.’”

*Pablo Hidalgo, founding member of the Star Wars Fan Boy Association, who is now a “brand communication manager” at Lucasfilm gave Disney a tour of the Holocron which “lists 17,000 characters in the Star Wars universe inhabiting several thousand planets over a span of 20,000 years.”

*Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios: “We needed to have an understanding that if we acquire the company, despite tons of collegial conversations and collaboration, at the end of the day, we have to be the ones who sign off on whatever the plans are.”

*“At first Lucas wouldn’t even turn over his rough sketches of the next three Star Warsfilms. When Disney executives asked to see them, he assured them they would be great and said they should just trust him… Once Lucas got assurances from Disney in writing about the broad outlines of the deal, he agreed to turn over the treatments—but insisted they could only be read by Horn and Kevin Mayer, Disney’s executive vice president for corporate strategy. ‘We promised,’ says Iger. ‘We had to sign an agreement.’”

*“At the end of October, Iger arranged for Lucas to fly down to Disney’s Burbank headquarters and sign the papers. He thought Lucas seemed melancholy. ‘When he put that pen to the piece of paper, I didn’t detect a hesitation,’ Iger says. ‘But I did detect there was a lot of emotion. He was saying goodbye.’”

*“The day after the deal closed [Iger] went trick-or-treating with his family. ‘I was Darth Vader,’ he says.

Technically all of them.  George Lucas's notes from the 70s mention them.  :P

Force-users manipulate energy, an energy field created by all living things... so yeah, noting that at the biological level, all living things in that galaxy have organelles that produce an energy field?  Not a big deal.  Kind of obvious, really.

Unfortunately, they were introduced in the worst bit of exposition since ever in that cinematic classic The Phantom Menace.

Oh.

No wonder. I haven't seen that film since release.

I really don't understand why Lucas thought the Force needed to be explained in more detail, or needed to be more "grounded" in some form of reality. It's space magic either way, but going back to it again and cramming more exposition into it only make it come across as stupid, and makes fans hate it.

I really don't understand why Lucas thought the Force needed to be explained in more detail, or needed to be more "grounded" in some form of reality. It's space magic either way, but going back to it again and cramming more exposition into it only make it come across as stupid, and makes fans hate it.

He did the midichlorians so he could make Palpatine Vader's "father".

I'm not even sure what that means.

In Episode III Palpatine explains to Anakin that Darth Plagueis was so powerful that he could manipulate the midichorians to create life (and he said that while glancing at Anakin) and then said that Plagueis taught his apprentice everything he knew before his apprentice killed him. And Palpatine was his apprentice.
