Wolverine has apparently made $150 million already on a $120 mil budget. :rock

60% of it from foreign tickets. :eep

It's tracking lower than every other X-Men movie, even X-Men 1.

Eh, I like Gosling a lot.  He's got a cute face with a good smile, a nice body, and a charming east coast accent in a lot of films.  He's just instantly likable to women and men alike.  Plus he's got that whole blond, blue eyes, muscle, an occasional tattoo, icon of blue collar America thing going too.  Never seen the Notebook, but enjoyed his performances in Drive and Crazy, Stupid Love & Place Beyond the Pines.

Blue Valentine is the film where he's had the most range for sure.  Great performance there.

Yup. I thought he was very good in that, and I really like the film. But I haven't seen him in anything else.

Ryan Gosling was good in Drive cause he barely talked and Refn is a great director.

The funny thing is that applies to Only God Forgives as well and that's supposed to be pretty shit.

I get the physical appeal.  I just  know people who are convinced he's talented.  I don't see it.  And this is coming from a taco that fucking loves The Notebook.  I think he's actually pretty damn awful at acting.

Same :heartbeat I'll watch most anything with Tom Hardy. Most recently Warrior. A similar character to his portrayal of Bronson, he nails that lovable psycho schtick. His acting chops well exceed Goslings ability to be a competent mute.

Pretty sure he'll be great as Mad Max.

It's been a while since I've read an X-men comic.  What makes Sentinels deadly against Mutants?  Why can't Mutants just toss them left and right with their powers?
People like this can't fight them.

But I also guess they suck on principle. It sucks that your government thinks it has to make killer robots just because you're a certain thing. Plus sentinels can be pretty huge(or nanos and make you sick) and depending on who's writing them they can be pretty powerful.

The Wolverine... was okay-goodish.  Nothing spectacular.  Not a terrible way to spend two hours, but I'd rather have been playing SMT IV.

I just bought X-Men 1, 2, 3, and Wolverine and am working my way brought them. The first holds up pretty well, but the climactic Liberty Island fight feels like normal people punching each other while on wires. Still, a lot of fun.

I'd forgotten that 2 starts just after the original's ending. So far, it is as good as I'd recalled.

Wolverine, I'd only ever seen as a screener with unfinished effects, so that should be a little more exciting than last time; I recall that its story was weak.

The first X-Men will always have a bitter taste in my mouth due to the comic reboot it started. I was a big fan of X-Men and Uncanny X-Men at the time, but the comics got significantly worse during the lead up and aftermath of the film. Chris Claremont came back for a pretty shitty arc, including making Gambit and Rogue the leaders of the X-Men teams.

IMO the best part of the movie was the beginning. I wouldn't mind seeing a Young Magneto film set in Nazi Germany.

Saw Holy Mountain, a strange 70's arthouse flick that the girl I'm dating wanted me to see. Was really hilarious in how fucked up (but not really grotesque, just really like one big LSD trip) the movie was.

The Cabin in the Woods

mediocre throughout most of the the movie (by design to some extent no doubt) but it's worth watching just for the end part, which was  fucking awesome.

It's the same atmosphere, isolated technician/caretaker in the future working for a big mining corporation/government.

But now there is guns, hot ladies and panoramic landscape shots + ambient soundtrack. Visually it made me think of Mass Effect with the gun design.

It's a decent movie for the things that Lager described, story's really cliched, though, so you'll probably spot all the twists about a mile out. And it's got Morgan Freeman.
