Early reviews seem to indicate that the movie delivers exactly what you'd expect and not much else.

Which is fine with me.

What hip young actor will they partner him up with this time since Harrison hasn't been able to do an action scenes in a few decades?

Thing is Indy 4 really felt like Spielberg wasn't really caring anyway. Film is on total autopilot (intro is good... and that's it) and has a vibe not unlike The Lost World. And as I said earlier, Last Crusade already had some signs of that (just compare the sequence of banter between two bedrooms in Venice to the palace one in Temple of Doom) including some so-so SFX. Last Crusade has hit and miss lighting (Douglas Slocombe was unfortunately afflicted with an eye disease at that point IIRC) but Yadda Yadda Alien Skull was totally off the mark, felt like Spielberg and Kaminski just xeroxed their trademark style and it doesn't work at all.

in short, I think Spielberg is jobbing it as hard as Ford or Allen in the last movie.

The main problem with Indy 4 is that I was no longer 8 when I saw it.  Hopefully they fix this for 5.

Definitely agree with that. Felt like he was doing it as a favor to Lucas, rather than doing it because he actually wanted to. Maybe it'll be different this time around, but I dunno.

I was about to say "No-one but Harrison can play Indy!" but then I remembered that River Phoenix did a great job as Young Indy, and it wasn't all that long ago that I would have said no-one other than Mel Gibson could play Mad Max. So... yeah, I'm not particularly excited for a new Spielberg/Ford Indy Jones film.

Nope it'll be trash just like Skull. One of the biggest appeals of Indiana Jones was that he was the coolest dude. Each of the first three films oozes with a lot of charisma from the character. Even Doom, which sucks, features great Indiana moments. "Old Indiana" can't pull that off. Maybe one sequel with Old Indiana might have worked if he had a cool son to take over but instead we got bitch boy Shia LaBuff.

Can't wait till that Blade Runner sequel where we finally know if he's a dead human or a dead replicant.

Yeah Temple of Doom is a great movie, maybe a tad lackluster at the end. Never had an issue with Kim Cattrall either. Almost as good as Raiders.

For Last Crusade, back to back watching with Raiders and or / Temple really underlines how weaker it is.

Netflix has its biggest original film yet with the $90 Million + 'Bright', which is directed by David Ayer, written by Max Landis, and starring Will Smith.

its described as similar to End of Watch, but with orcs. A contemporary, R-rated fantasy cop movie with a healthy budget. Yeah, I'm down for streaming that sometime next year. Netflix probably got it because it looks like they offered the most money, and I would assume the most creative control. But also, the most money.

The Witch, yikes, that's a movie. Creates a dread filled atmosphere so thick you could cut with a knife. Loved the period appropriate dialog too, and the way the characters deal with their stifling religious faith. Man, I really liked it, but I can understand fully the mixed audience reaction it received from my theater (except for that guy who kept laughing, he's a dick).

Eye in the Sky is a intelligent, sometimes tense, and properly cynical film about modern drone warfare. Its also not exactly dramatically satisfying. Its not bad, but its the sort of well made, handsomely appointed prestige film that seems to garner too much Oscar attention every year. Sometimes its like a much smarter version of a 24 episode  (with Captain Phillip star Barkhad Abdi as the risk taking agent, YES), that can't seem to split the difference between admonishing or entertaining its audience.

Took the kids to Zootopia today. Kind of impressed that a 2pm showing on a Sunday was still packed.

I walked in thinking, "I can't believe I'm going to sit through another animated movie about fucking talking animals.". But I walked out impressed that I actually enjoyed another animated movie about fucking talking animals.

The story had the same beats that an adult 'true crime' movie would have. So, it actually had a good, familiar pace to it. It didn't feel like a bunch of random skits stitched together just looking to pay off with cheap jokes. I don't think there was one nut shot the entire movie. Which is a modern miracle.

I liked Zootopia. It's nothing amazing but they did manage to get some social commentary on racism and profiling into the movie. The most important thing for me was that it was a kid's movie that didn't insult my intelligence or make me want to blow my brains out. Whenever we take our daughter to a movie, about 90% of the trailers for upcoming animated stuff looks absolutely terrible and I won't be taking my kid to see them.

Btw Whiskey Tango Foxtrot was good. Probably more worth a rental than theater visit, but it had some surprising deftness and felt pretty real for a "comedy." In fact, it's about equal parts comedy and drama. There's some funny lines and levity, but there's no mistaking the shit the characters are in. Tina Fey is a goddess.

I remembered afterwards that it was based on a real person and the movie then really "clicked" to me. It was entertaining pretty much the entire time.

That's how I generally feel as well. I mean, seriously, why even give the movie a theatrical release if you can't reasonably ask adults to sit through it? That' how the Doraemon and Anpanman stuff over here makes me feel. OTOH, I'd re-watch Kung-Fu Panda 3 here with my son, because it was surprisingly good.

Whole BvS plot is out there, the superherohype post is legit, so either be careful if that's your thing or have a fun enjoy for some of the lulz at the plot.

Apparently the trailers managed to hide a decent amount of the Batman/Superman fight. And no post/mid-credits scene?!?

The Batman no kill code is a bit of a farce to be honest. Burton movies were mentioned, but in Nolan's film he just let someone to die and in many depictions (Miller comics and the current games) he deliver brutal takedowns that would leave real dudes disabled. IIRC he was not adverse to gunning down criminals in the original strips either. Batman is a vigilante.

Truth is that it's not important as long as the character treatment is coherent and the angle interesting.

Bats was killing people in the Nolan movies too. He fucking drove the Batmobile over like five police cars chasing him and causes a whole bunch of others to have severe crashes. He also drives it through buildings and shit, into other cars, typical 1%er having no care for others property.

All his vehicles in stuff are shooting people or firing rockets or some shit.

He doesn't kill many people in Returns or either of Schumakers' movies.

He hasn't really kept to it in the comics either except through technicalities. His no-gun rule was ultimately worth it for Final Crisis.

No kill is a fundamental part of Batman. If you don't agree, then you're not reading the comics. :expert

You can say this is just an interpretation, like various Elseworlds plots or other movies, but this was being sold as the "truest comic version yet." Whoops. :doge

It seems instead you get a code, and there will be a website to enter the code into which might have future hype?

The Devil Inside. To be fair, that movie actually just ended out of nowhere with "To See More, visit whatever.com." BvS at least has a denouement from what I understand.

Well, Gil Kane or whoever he stole the work from that day doesn't seem to agree.

Honestly canonicity is the least of my concerns, what's fun in comics in the variety of interpretations. Don't have any beef with no kill Batmans, either Bruce Timm, Adam West or the Killing Joke one (a story for which it is pretty essential), it's interesting too. I'd argue that in most of those modern takes he is still borderline and barely refrain from crossing the line through a rigid personal discipline.

Edit: Plus BvS riffs a lot from Miller's TDK which is not exactly the gentler Batman around.
