Original Sin (2001): A film about conning rich dudes. Antonio Banderas plays a rich dude getting scammed by Angelina Jolie. I heard that the fight scenes in this movie are unsimulated. The script is bad and the story sucks.

Oh, man. Old Man Chrono, so tired of takedown culture, has no choice but to agree with this assessment.

I still liked the movie though.

And I don't give two shits about levity being spread throughout Star Wars and Marvel properties. Jesus. Just relax, y'all.

Yeah, SPECTRE was not good; it was moving closer to the Moore/Brosnan levels of action, stretching plausibility to its breaking point. That denouement about Blofeld/Bond was just epically cheap. COME ON.

Even so, I still like Bourne-style Bond, and Daniel Craig and Timothy Dalton are my favorite Bonds.

FIGHT ME.

Oh yes, I remember that well. From the brief window that Edward Furlong looked like he could be a bankable kiddie star in violent movies (see also Pet Cemetary 2) and when movies were afraid of shitty early CGI monsters/Virtual Reality (see also Ghost in the Machine).

I'm really high on Thoroughbreds, it just impressed the hell outta me. Its hard to believe its a first film from its director. Its so confidentaly and smartly made. The performances/writing are so uniformly strong. This is a great movie. Chock full of surprises and tricky tonal balences.

Also, Anton Yelchin is great in this. The film well plays off of his advancing and tragically truncated age. It made me very much miss the interesting older man he would never become.

Saw Justice Leauge dir. by Joss Whedon. Whew what a fucking mess lmao.

The best parts are straight up the most Snyder wackfests. That scene where flash has to hit something at an exact moment? Thats that Snyder shit I love. Just him stroking himself off for 2-3 minutes at a time over one tiny ass moment. The movie has 2 or 3 of these and it's like thats all they had when they started. I refuse to believe this movie had a script at any point of the process. It's just random scenes one after another and they're a fucking mess continuity wise because of all the really obvious green screen reshoots. I hope this physically hurt everyone involved on it's way out of the studio, they deserve it. Holy shit.

While I was watching this I realized that I'm perfectly content solely consuming Marvel movies in trailer sized format. I'm literally getting as much from a two and a half minute ad as I would from watching a two hour long movie, and that's fine with me.

Bone tomahawk is a great movie to go into blind... I had heard it was an unusual and violent western but not much else... and yeah, it starts out that way and in an expected manner but jay-zus does it ramp up. You know what I’m taking about... and it managed to not feel discordant in the process.

Took the older kids to bleck pentha... not bad. Pretty good actually. Probably the best villain so far in the mcu; actual depth and conviction.... was let down a bit by the ending which was just three things going on that didn’t mesh well in flow, plus they did the annoying blockbuster thing where some Everyman lame gets to contribute to the winning side...

. Pls stop doing this thx.

CGI actually wasn’t as bad as it looked in the trailers, only odd spots were some crowd shots/backgrounds... nothing as heinous as Spider-Man homecoming.

Both my kids thought it was awesome tho so it’s a net win for all involved :yeshrug

Also saw annihilation... also pretty good, not as well formed/polished/executed as ex machina on first view... I can see why this was dumped because the movie makes zero concessions for the audience at large and just gets plain weird at the end. Which I didn’t care for from as stylistic POV, just seemed to be a rough sketch of how it would execute nor did I feel the movie Gabe enough breathing room for the sequence.. I did appreciate the overall theme of the film and the slow-burn intro.

Watched Annihilation. Great scifi but not a movie I'd call great. Aside from some exposition the characters didn't go far, Portman and her character were decent and the story was also decent. What really saved the movie were the unique scifi elements in it, honestly without that aspect I'd find it pretty mediocre. Alex Garland knows how to create unique worlds and situations but other than that he's mediocre at everything else. Imo, Ex Machina wasn't that great either.

Also, trailer for latest Marvel movie has just been released!

Because they were paper thin. Even Portman's character wasn't very deep. Compare her with Amy Adams' character on Arrival for example, the difference is enormous.

I've said it before, but I thought Annihilation brought up a lot of grand ideas (the invasive nature of life, our biological desire for self-destruction, cancer allegories, etc) but didn't really pay them off in any meaningful way. Strip away all the CGI weirdness at the end, and you had a pretty cookie-cutter Hollywood ending.

I guess the director was beholden to the books and the potential for sequels, but I wish he would've been more bold at the end of that movie. That's why I've always respected movies like Event Horizon and Twelve Monkeys. They build to that ending and pay it off.

i was ok with the affair, it gives a concrete reason for kane to go into the shimmer. agree overall that while it's good it's missing that je ne sais quoi to be great. i don't get why this wasn't shoved down our throats for having an all female cast the way ghostbusters was though

Watched Tomb Raider - first 35 - 40 minutes are completely unnecessary. Movie is about what you expect if you played Tomb Raider reboot the game (feels like a side story of that)
