So I've not seen IW, but since I generally give no fucks about spoilers and especially not for Mahvel shite, I read the plot summary on wiki.

:lol

Start with a few movies with a handful of iconic superhero. Then spam as many as you can in the past couple years with 53459 new characters, only to wipe half of them :rofl

I suppose that's a way to terminate actors' contracts.
Although I fully expect some time travel or magic shenanigans to bring some of them back or something.

This isnt really true

The only people that actually died is Heimdal, Loki, (maybe) Vision and (maybe) Gammora. The collector is prolly dead but no one gives a fuck, all the others that died are going to be reversed

I haven't seen the movie and even I know that's what is going to happen.

Saw Infinite WarThanos: The Movie.  My favorite part was at the end, where someone yelled out "I AM SO CONFUSED RIGHT NOW" and everybody agreed and burst out laughing.  :lol

I liked it and I disagree that it was a snoozer.  It was pretty damn long, however, so I'm glad we went to an early show this morning.  This is basically the "Empire Strikes Back" of all the Avengers movies and it's kind of a downer if you're rooting for the good guys, but it's all being done to set up the sequel next year where 99% of all the shit that happens here will be null and void by the end.

This was kind of like several movies all rolled into one.  The space stuff was the best and the earth stuff was where it all felt kind of pointless.  Two of the characters were also incredibly selfish-

, Thanos would have been defeated.  Good job, "heroes."  :doge

Overall, Thor Ragnarok is the best Marvel movie and they should do more films like that.
:ufup

Also Thanos is much more sympathetic in this than the comics. So much so that I would say they are nearly totally different characters. He is a more rounded character in the movie, but I’m not sure I would say more interesting. The black order were surprisingly comic accurate in their look.

My wife said the same thing.  At the ending, she was like "so he's a good guy?" even though he goes around the galaxy killing shitloads of people.  :lol

Infinity War

Extremely mild spoilers
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Theres some interesting camera work early on when Strange, Stark, Banner, etc hear the ship and step out into the street where it goes hand camera / behind the back and I remember thinking “wow, this is pretty cool”, and then it immediately abandons it. It would’ve been nice to do an entire battle with that to switch up the pace a bit.

Marvel Fantasy X: Undefined Mild Spoilers Infinity War

A Hot Mess of a movie

Hot: Explosions, battles, many locales and characters, Guardians of the Galaxy, yes! holy shit a lot is happening it looks great.

Mess: Josh Brollin is too good an actor to play a giant purple man. He out acts everyone else despite being a CG man it's not even funny.
I don't think Robert Downey Jr. even knows how to act anymore. Peter Dinklage seemed to have been as interested in this as he was in Destiny.
Tom Hiddleston "I only have to stand around here for 5 minutes to get a suitcase with cash"
Wow, so many Chris's and they all try to look so angsty now. Hemsworth no longer Solid Snake.

What did we just launch oh yeah Black Panther. Gotta shoehorn Wakanda in there. (this might've been in the comics, I don't know).

The dumbest part of the change to Thanos is that it makes him seem really dumb.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
So he is doing what he is doing to “save” the universe, but once he gets the magic glove, he can’t just magic rocks into food or magic a box that contains a new iPod every time you open it, or whatever? Killing half of everyone makes sense if all you have is basically a military andshit, but if you have basically and inifintely reusable magic lamp, it doesn’t.

I've recently heard a good comparison: Marvel humour is the equivalent of jump scares in a horror movie. You don't need talent to write a serious scene and end it with a generic ironic oneliner to get guaranteed laughs from a few dumb dumbs.

(made assumptions about spoiler text)
Well, Marvel's always been about flawed heroes. The entirety of Civil War is based on Tony's unresolved daddy issues, including being unwilling to accept that Winter Soldier is a victim as well, due to brainwashing. I didn't like it how it was presented; Tony's alcoholism is played down in the MCU, and it would have been a fantastic starting point to have it be involved with his lack of reasoning there.

(read spoiler text)
I've also heard that "Thanos is a liberal" and in that sense, he's got ways he wants to deal with things which he assumes are objectively correct even though they're "just, like, your opinion, mannnnn…"

IW was probably one of the best marvel drops yet. Best villain/antagonist along with killmonger (wildly different arcs/characters)... a little too quippy in some spots but nothing eye rolling or corny like in ultron.

Also hilarious to see it’s almost made JL’s total gross in the first weekend. Yowch.  :lol

Disney assumes the audience is too dumb to handle Thanos' reason from the original story, and I have to assume the same for the original story's openly admitted deus ex machina to restore the status quo.

Then again, I'm not sure how much they're leaning on Infinity vs. Infinity Gauntlet, it's seemingly like a kitbash of the action/drama parts. I guess with the Captain Marvel intermission film they are probably going more after Infinity since Starlin considered him totally fucking dead at the time of Gauntlet.

Arguably the funniest thing they could do is set up all these possible resolutions (Captain Marvel, The Vision, Captain America, Captain Japan, etc.) and just use Infinity Gauntlet's* because people would lose their shit. :lol

I had to refresh myself on how the original series ended, and I very much doubt they will use that ending. It would be pretty contrived and unsatisfying.

Saw IW, was a solid 2 hours of non-stop videogame/comics over the top action movie. Story/character stuff was kinda weak, Thanos is just as zzz as most marvel/videogame villains (his new motivation is weak), and the ending is dumb and has no impact since

spoiler (click to show/hide)
they’ve forced it to have to complete retcon next movie.
[close]

I enjoyed it, but idk even know how to rate it as a movie because it’s half a movie and as is, is basically two hours of flashy videogame cutscenes. Marvel’s FF7 Advent Children, but good?

Definitely feel like next movie has the potential to be a lot more interesting although

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Some questionable choices on who they ditched for part 2. No black panther, Spider-Man or Guardians outside Rocket sucks a bit. BP didn’t get to do much in this one (didn’t even fight a sub boss) and if he’s out of pt 2, whelp. Wanted to see him jump in and deck Thanos in the face like he did Mephisto in the comics.
[close]

I also felt this was the weakest directed of the Russo films. Action is good as always, but humor fell flat way too much. Thor & Guardians felt off and out of their element from their solo films. You could really tell the difference without Gunn or Waitati.

A few thoughts on Indignity War

- I thought Thanos looked hella stupid in the trailers. But it actually really worked and I felt Thanos stole the show.
- I think it was bogged down by too many heroes. So much of the movie was trying to get everyone together.  The next one hopefully wont have this issue

spoiler (click to show/hide)
- The whole "We have to save vision!" thing is stupid. They work so hard and got so far. But in the end, it didn't even matter
- I hate that they're going to pull all "Oh ho ho! None of this matters because we have the time stone!!" Crap. I was OK with everyone dying that did but when I saw T'challa and Spider Man go? I was like "No way they've leaving those guys dead. They're the new cash cows." It's a crappy trope, and one that's obvious.

I think we can look at this in different ways-
spoiler (click to show/hide)
-The dead characters might come back much sooner than expected
-The dead characters might have another role to play inside the Soul stone or whatever
-There might be time travel or multiverse crap here and we get younger or different versions of the dead characters coming back
-They clearly wanted to have the original Avengers from the first movie in the spotlight for the sequel and left all of them alive
-We're gonna get more characters in the sequel- Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye (possibly as Ronin), and Captain Marvel.  Maybe more

Disney's Marvel's The Avengers: Infinity War was fine, I watched it, I don't remember much about it an hour later.

I will say that any stakes you have ring pretty hollow when 1. You announce sequel movies years in advance 2. You have a plot device to turn back time and warp reality on a whim.

I feel sort of the same. The movies are just sort of there. They are not bad but neither are they great.

I enjoy them, but not nearly as much as something less run into the ground like Atomic Blonde or Underworld.

There is also the fact that these movies are well overhyped.

From a culinary perspective, the answer is "thrown out immediately." From a safety perspective, it depends on if they were refrigerated or sat out at room temperature. If they were immediately refrigerated, you've got a couple days to eat them. If they were left out in warm weather, I'd wave off.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
It runs a very serious risk of becoming terrible in its second half.  It really depends on how they handle the resurrection of some or all of these now dead characters.  Since they've already introduced time reversal it is easy to imagine literally every dead character getting a mulligan which would be god awful.  And some of the characters they "killed off" are already contracted for future films sooooo....

I never found the main guy particularly charming or funny (I guess that was the point, that he was acting unfunny), but it was a nice movie. Didn't love it, but liked it.

It's interesting that your takeaway is that potentially hurts the 2nd movie, whereas I thought it hurts the 1st movie because if no one is really going to die then the first movie has no real stakes and it's literally just a bunch of videogame action with no meaning behind it because nothing matters.

Of course everyone is coming back in part 2. The movie will retcon everyone, including the earlier deaths like Gamora/Loki most likely.

I think the ending for the first movie would've been better if instead of disappearing heroes who have sequel movies coming out in 2019/2020 (spider-man, black panther), they just show random no-name people vanishing. Because at least that gives the impression that maybe there were stakes. But disappearing major superheroes who have movies coming out in the next few years just made it 100% certain everything will be retconned so the whole movie was pointless outside watching Thanos fight dudes and throw meteors at them.

I think how they handled the ending was pretty weak. A 100x better ending would've been Thanos saying "you should've aimed for the head" and he looks over and snaps his fingers and the credits roll. Would've been a pretty awesome ending actually.

no I agree, it will retroactively ruin the first part as well.

I was sure the finger snap was going to be the final shot of the film and was disappointed it wasn't.  You have to imagine it was written that way and some exec thought it was too ambiguous.  The problem is that once you see Black Panther and Spiderman fade into dust you know the whole thing is a ruse.  This is an opportunity to clear out the Thor-tier IP's...would be a shame if they missed it.

Watched The Big Sick. That was enjoyable. I didn't know anything about it and thought it was just a standard rom com, so the turn halfway kinda took me by surprise. I never found the main guy particularly charming or funny (I guess that was the point, that he was acting unfunny),

No, actually that's just how he is all the time. He's unfunny and a terrible actor and i never understood how people liked him. The movie was all around bad and the weird turn halfway through was odd.

So… Sabotage. Better than many of Arnie's movies, but by no means a good movie, considering that it's a mystery wrapped up in police/DEA culture and has a bullshit payoff. Some surprisingly good acting from Sam Worthington, and a superb turn as a cracked-out agent by Mireille Enos. Terence Howard is either underused in this or overrated considering how much we heard about him after his debut. The last 10 minutes are silly, and the last five of those are outright focus-group directed bullshit.

I expected more a more coherent story from David Ayer after Training Day, End of Watch, and Street Kings. I guess we're in the Suicide Squad timeline now.

My guess is that the gauntlet and/or some of the stones will get damaged and they'll only be able to reverse time to a certain point. Say, the moment that half the universe got roasted. So everybody that got iced prior to that will still be dead. Or if they want to bump off a few more people in Part 2, have it get damaged to where it can only restore people who were directly killed by gauntlet, something like that. But if they just pull a DBZ and bring back everyone then that would be incredibly lame.

Eh, we'll see. With how fast Loki went out like a chump, it makes more sense in retrospect if everything is getting retconned.

Plus they killed off fucking Heimdall, but then again maybe that's the only way to get Idris in as a different character in MCU so dunno.

Nah, he didn't like Thor 1/2 but had a good time with Waititi and is onboard with the MCU now.

"other fans claim that the continuity restrictions of a cinematic universe should restrict actors from changing taking on multiple roles"

 :neogaf :goty

I'd pay $20 to be able to slap those fans around for just 2 minutes. I'd have a fucking busy hand.

Not a great movie by any means but I love the fact that it's basically a slasher film dressed up like a gritty crime drama. It's horror.
