Yes

And now that I've watched it sober, and all analytical, I want to watch it in a higher state. I need to mainline Cage's insane performance. I may dose tomorrow and rent it on VOD for a rewatch.

Oh and theres male genitalia in this along with shattering of male egos. I was dying.

Jupiter Ascending by the Wachowski siblings is finally on Japanese Netflix.

What the fuck was everyone thinking when they made this? How can two people that suffered from gender dysphoria make a movie about genetic inheritance being a valid conceit, a defensible claim to power? Why did Magic Mike think manscara and elf ears would work? Why did Sean Bean agree to this?  :doge :doge :-*  :dizzy
It's absurd i'm the one constantly defending two trans directors and their work.

I like Jupiter Ascending. It's filled with camp, and utter ridiculousness that people should not take seriously (yet they always do). Come on, Channing Tatum has a blaster gun that barks when it shoots for fuck sakes! The problem people have with the Wachowskis is that the sisters don't wink at the audience like your typical Marvel garbage tentpole. Marvel movies want you to know they're in on the joke with you. But the Wachowskis are sincere in everything they do, they don't wink and say "har har look how silly we are, you know we are laughing with you right?". You can tell by how their actors act in most of the movies. They're dead serious even though they are doing something potentially goofy as fuck, which again unlike the Marvel movies where most of the time it seems like everyone is in on it.

Anyhow

I'm pretty sure Mila Kunis says multiple times she didn't want power or any of it until she was faced with the choice of saving her family or humanity. And isn't that every girls dream? A migrant maid in a big city working for some rich bimbo but is secretly the princess of the universe? Not sure why that's a problem.

Saw The Predator. It was fine. Not great, but not too bad. I had fun. I went in expecting a action movie with some gore and jokes and that's what I got. Which I guess may be a problem, but to me The Predator suffers the same problems(to worse extent) that the Alien movies do in that the monster is not scary anymore. Unless you're getting an intense reinvention I'm not sure what you do beyond make another Pred movie, which this is. So that may be good and bad at the same time. The cast and characters are likable and that helps. I don't hold the original up highly, but again the cast is what makes that movie. As well as the tense hunt. here the hunt seems rushed and tacked on, but maybe that describes the movie in a nutshell. It's rushed, not really allowing time for it to breathe or to know the characters. The original does, but here the movie takes it too far. To the point where parts of the movie seem missing and you'll wonder how did they get that, where did those characters go, and how did they get there? The editing is pretty bad often leading to those questions.

Still it's fun and the violence is good. The evolution plot is dumb, but whatever. It's just another Pred movie, but one that knows how to have fun. Which i would say is missing from the other movies in this series.

But since you know Shane Black is in on the joke of the movie you kind of expect him to be a little bit smarter and go beyond that. I don't think he does.

I don’t like Jupiter Ascending but I agree with your sentiment. I like Pacific Rim a lot for mostly the same reason. It is ridiculous in its use of tropes, but it is sincere and not ironic.

I've only seen bits and pieces of it and it seemed unenjoyably terrible from what I saw

If you can sit through Prometheus multiple times, you can sit through Jupiter Ascending once. Now go do your homework.

Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado

From the opening scene you just know this movie is 'intense'. It's not quite like the first one which had a much slower build-up and a focus on the Emily Blunt character (more thriller than action-movie, this is more action).
This movie just goes dark, dark places and stays there. Solid action, great tension and once more a thrilling soundtrack.
"Fuck em all"

I highly recommend it.

Bring on Sicario 3  :rejoice

Seems like Predator is gonna bomb. It’s Friday gross puts it on par with Predators, except this time it cost twice the budget ($88 Million vs $40) and it really seems like Fox went all-out with the advertising too. I’ve been seeing a ton of commercials and it’s being pushed out on over 4000 screens.

When you watching Mandy, TVC?

It’a Not showing in the Bay Area until next week, and only at the Drafthouse, and all the showings are already sold out. So it will be at least two weeks :( I can console myself with home marijuana delivery though, of which I just spent 200 bucks on.

And he's so out of place in it. This is what happens when the directors get too much control. The Wachowskis have always been complete shit in casting, they got lucky with the Matrix because of the studio pushback wanting Reeves and not WILL SMITH (Smith had also already committed to doing Wild Wild West)

Almost all their first choices for parts in the Matrix were bad ideas.

Valerian is a FAR better Jupiter Ascending, you should check it out if you haven't, Jupiter Ascending wasn't even that fun, they were just jumping from set piece to set piece with nothing happening in-between to progress the story.

Also regarding Prometheus, I think we can all agree that it's a movie with great direction but god-awful script. People just have different priorities, I consider the movie trash because I can't tolerate a movie that doesn't have an interesting story or characters.
