I enjoyed Prometheus and Alien Covenant, ask me anything

Alien Covenant is hands down the worst movie I’ve seen in a theater. How the same person can direct the original Alien and A:C is mind blowing to me. Don’t know what critics saw in that pile of garbage.

This is going to bomb by Marvel standards for the same reason as Ant Man (well it was kinda meh anyway) and the upcoming Spiderman, they put themselves in a situation where all their movies have to move the universe forward and when the first weekend nerds tell their friends it doesnt, the normies will balk and watch something else instead
I don’t think this is actually true. GoTG2, Thor 3, Black Panther, Spider-man Homecoming, and Iron Man 3 all did great and they didn’t move the universe forward.

Alien Covenant is pretty bad. I don't see how anyone could enjoy it. As a sequel to Prometheus it's shit. The interesting plotlines that movie introduced are thrown away so quickly. Ridley just dosen't care and it's so obvious he dosen't care about the series. David caught his attention and whatever fuck the previous movie's plot and main character. But the problem is now the movie feels like a mashed together Prometheus and Alien movie. Prom was almost there with being able to stand on it's own and a sequel could have made it better in retrospect. Covenant does do that but in the bad way. Since somehow Covenant has even worse characters and then falls apart into yet another typical Alien movie. Prometheus feels somehow far more unique and ambitious.

I mean Covenant has Billy Crudump as the most unbelievable captain perhaps in movies ever. I get that he only becomes Captain thanks to James Franco's death, but he was still 2nd in command and man is he so weak willed that it's almost pathetic. You also can't use the excuse of say Alien where these people are just space truckers, blue collar workers. No, these are new frontier brave explorer people. He also just makes the stupidest actions around David that makes the idiotic scientists in Prometheus look good. I know in these movies you're supposed to allow characters make bad choices, but it's insulting here. Also off the top of my head I can't think of most characters making really bad or unmotivated decisions. Crudmp has no reason to trust David, in fact he has all the reasons to not.

But also the movie decides to further muck up the Alien mythology all for the sake of making David a better character. David is a good character(though clearly evil to the point I can't see why anyone would trust him). Making the Alien less mysterious has been a lame choice, but Prometheus still kept them kind of up in the air, but having David just making them because he is fascinated with creating life is not that interesting on a worldview level.

Beyond that I find the ending forced and mean spirited. I guess Alien movies all have that 4th Act ending, but I don't know it just felt too by the numbers.  The cast also feels pretty lifeless despite having an interesting premise for them.

As long as superior character Rogue steals her character when the mutants inevitably show up I'll be fine.
Down for this, and then Kamala Khan can be Ms. Marvel.

I could be wrong, but I dont think I am, it will do better than Ant Man but I think it will top out at low to mid 200 mil or sneak into the 300 mill US box office monies by miracles.

Nah he sucked

Yeah he did suck. And let's just get a male model to play the scientist guy. I get annoyed with poor casting choices like this.

He's not a male model. He was primarily a stage actor at the time of Prometheus.
That wasn't the point.

Yeah this was the worst part for me. did the writer or scott ever bring this up?

I've seen it happen with genre whores (especially horror). They watch so many films in a given genre, that the below-average becomes "good". Because they've seen dozens of genre films that are drek and know what that looks like.

I feel a little jealous of those people because I went the other way and now I hate every movie that isn't at least close to perfect.

Saw The Predator. It was fine. Not great, but not too bad. I had fun. I went in expecting a action movie with some gore and jokes and that's what I got. Which I guess may be a problem, but to me The Predator suffer's the same problems(to worse extent) that the Alien movies do in that the monster is not scary anymore. Unless you're getting an intense reinvention I'm not sure what you do beyond make another Pred movie, which this is. So that may be good and bad at the same time. The cast and characters are likable and that helps. I don't hold the original up highly, but again the cast is what makes that movie. As well as the tense hunt. here the hunt seems rushed and tacked on, but maybe that describes the movie in a nutshell. It's rushed, not really allowing time for it to breathe or to know the characters. The original does, but here the movie takes it too far. To the point where parts of the movie seem missing and you'll wonder how did they get that, where did those characters go, and how did they get there? The editing is pretty bad often leading to those questions.

Still it's fun and the violence is good. The evolution plot is dumb, but whatever. It's just another Pred movie, but one that knows how to have fun. Which i would say is missing from the other movies in this series.

But since you know Shane Black is in on the joke of the movie you kind of expect him to be a little bit smarter and go beyond that. I don't think he does.

How the FUCK do you think that's a possessive noun?

I don't feel jealous, but I've boxed myself into that same situation. I won't go see a movie unless it has rave reviews or I'm a big fan of the director. Which means I only see about 4-6 movies a year and makes me more critical of the ones I do see.

Everyone should watch this, it has Bebpo's gay Puerto Rican cousin as a photographer who bites it early on.
And it offers such gems like "Is it possible for a shark to have more than one head?!"

Last night I saw Lawrence of Arabia on 70mm. It was fucking amazing. Before that it was West Side Story which is such a beautiful movie.   Before that was The Thing, the print was damaged, but midnight showings of that are always fun.

This weekend it's going to be Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and Star Trek 6.

Edit: for fucks sake, wrong thread, and i’m on mobile. I’ll fix it later

Anyone remembers that duo of posters that posted here, on neogaf and opa ages for a while, it was a girl and her older boyfriend (?) who was a photographer.

They even sent a box of games to Reirom in brazil who turned around and promptly sold them.

They keep doing those weird artsy pics, and I think they even showed up to a neogaf meetup? I think there were even pics of the girl next to a super embarrassed Opa-Opa?

I wonder what happened to them 🤔

And what happened to Opa?

Weren't we just talking about Beyond the Black Rainbow? Is that why this movie was brought up because of the directors new one?

I didn't even know he directed "Mandy". I was going to not even watch it and consider it another garbage dump money grab from Nicholas Cage but the reviews are good and some people i respect have said it's great.

Turning it on now  :)

Its a slow burn at first. Also its certainly not just a Nic Cage rage out vehicle. It seems like some people approached it purely in this way and were left confused.

That's not we're saying you infantile retärd.
What are you saying Weinstein? That it'd be sooo fucking crazy awesome and bloody? yeah we know Disney wouldnt' allow it, and even if they did, i still woudln't want it. Stop fucking dreaming of it, stop constantly having to bring everything back to pop culture.

That's all.

"Panos to direct Star Wars Episode 10"

If they gave him complete and total creative freedom (which they would never do) I'd watch the fuck out of that.

I don't think it's possible to miss the point of a conversation harder, lol.
Oh i get it perfectly fine- If a specific director had the chance to helm yet another Star Wars it'd be worth it, as if we need another one and we should not just let this fucking franchise die.

But since we are on a spinoff of REE REE where majority of you fucks love regurgitation and massive blockbuster franchises made through an assembly line that are aimed at manchildren......

this is what we have.

How about just no more Star Wars films? Isn't that a novel idea?

READ me again then shit fuck.

Even if he did i still wouldn't want it. LET IT GOOOOO kid LET IT GOOOOO. LEt the franchise die, no need to constantly interject it into any film discussions going further.

But like usual REE REES will do what they can to bring it back to some pop culture garbage.

"breh breh breh imagine if Disney let Panos do STAR WARS! or a Marvel flick! oh mannnnnnn that's be sooo sick! "

like enough.

That said giving Panos The Black Hole actually might have some merit, Disney or no.
