I like Neil Marshall more than most but idk If I would have picked him for Hellboy. The stuff I like about Hellboy are the existential dread, creepy folktale, lonely good guy shit. Idk if he can nail that stuff or if that'd even make a good movie. At least with Del Toro he could just lean heavy into world building and the folktale aspect.

I so wholeheartedly agreed with this sentiment that I went to go google 'mob wives' to see if there were any real mob wives that hot (which I doubted)

of course what comes up is a ton of images from a reality tv show apparently called Real Mob Wives or some shit.

I can't come back to the states. I don't care how financially stable the economy is, or how much you can make or grow, it's a terrible place. The U.S is full on cringe.

If this country sinks over here for real I'm out, I will do what I can to head to Europe or Singapore, anything but the U.S.

Tom Hardy: 'My favourite 40 minutes of Venom were cut from the film'

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/2018/10/01/tom-hardy-favourite-40-minutes-venom-cut-film/

This and Snyder essentially confirming the plan was that he was always going to kill Batfleck via Darkseid to get the scene of Supes holding his body from Final Crisis as the capstone to his Justice League vs. Apokolips/New Gods tale before turning the DCEU over to Johns and crew were like the two comic nerd film (as opposed to comic film nerd I suppose) gutpunches of this weekend.

I wanted to buy into that theory that Venom was the fad run amuck into a massive The Producers type affair for everyone involved except Ari Avid. And Hardy's descriptions of the stuff cut out almost confirm that theory, except someone stepped in to "clean it up" like they kicked Snyder off Justice League to make it a worse and incoherent movie with the idea that Joss could reconstruct it into The Avengers randomly for pennies and with minor restaging of shoots.

I was kinda hoping Venom would appropriately be so amazingly bad as to serve as a vehicle for unintentional critical parody of the superhero genre and its industry. Venom as a character was almost too perfectly selected for something like this, the fact that Ari Avid is fucking obsessed with the character was the cherry on top for industry followers considering his role in helping launch the endless blockbuster era with Spider-Man and how he was overpowering Raimi's smaller visions.

Funny enough, Hardy's first big franchise role also had 30-40 minutes sliced out of it that probably would have made it a better movie since that included half the plot explanations, Star Trek: Nemesis.

I saw another video where they pointed out a lot of the scenes were lightened in post using something approaching a common filter. And used it on the trailers to show how the results were almost exact. It's how the fight with Superman goes from at night to day.

I imagine the red tint may have been intended all along as Red Skies in DC Canon indicate a Crisis. Had Steppenwolf's plan or the earlier invasion succeeded they would have been a Crisis scale event. Snyder's version may have been more subtle, but he clearly put the Red Skies in Batman's vision in BvS so it may just be unfinished footage too.

It's unfortunate that Snyder isn't a better filmmaker because he and Chris Terrio were constructing a better "comic" version of what Nolan and Goyer were originally hired from as their pitch for doing a Nolanverse Superman. Warner didn't want that anymore though, they wanted the MCU. You can tell how much they hated this movie after they used Snyder's daughter to get rid of him, and then only put two short deleted scenes on the film, when there's like a hour or more of missing footage that's confirmed to exist. Plus whatever Joss shot that didn't make it. Snyder's first cut was supposedly at three hours like BvS but intentionally so that he had more room to deliberately cut this time. And I imagine that Warner arguably didn't want any of it but were too far into the process at that point, same reason they spent $50 million on the world's most infamous CGI rather than wait until Cavill could shave his mustache.

in which benji DC wanks in general at the "potential" of the Snyderverse, especially the intent of using Darkseid, and complains that people on the internet are not just getting the deep philosophy of the Snyderverse while praising often nonsensical trite like Nolan or Marvel as thought provoking, the laughable fools
The main thing is there's a whole lot of world and character building dialogue from the trailers cut, some of it replaced by stupid jokes. Some of the scenes I wanted regarding Bruce/Diana's relationship as they recruit is trimmed down/out. "More more or more less?" "More less-" "He said no." "He said no." from the first trailer being a particular favorite. Diana's lecture about the Apokolips invasion apparently wasn't a Diana voiceover previously.

There's a couple lists out there cobbled together from trailer footage and reports from people who were part of the "disastrous" workprint screenings. And it's much like the cuts to BvS were that got restored in the Ultimate Edition, story stuff. Namely in that film, Superman's whole entire plotline, Lois uncovering Luthor's descent into madness after learning about Apokolips and the Mother Boxes, etc.

The entire Russian family stupidity that cuts into the film every ten minutes was all in Joss's reshoots.

It's funny that the Snyder films get some of the treatment they do (while there is much warranted, especially in execution) considering they're some of the more dense and higher level "serious topic" superhero films that everyone tries to pretend that everything from Nolan forward has been doing but none of them ever actually were. (Returns and Spider-Man 2 being better examples obv.) BvS isn't even subtle about it in the extended cut, there's what both Bruce and Luthor feared Superman could be as a "god" disproven. But Darkseid would be that god. (But then I guess these are people who think the Nolan films were revolutionary takes on Batman mythos or "dark" whatever that means or philosophical in nature and that recent Marvel films also have these grand philosophical plots that lead to "Thanos was right" and "Wakanda Forever" spam.)

Watching Justice League again and then going back to BvS makes more of the decisions in the latter make sense with the former in mind. Even killing Superman does (as it forces Bruce and Diana to become leaders and assemble the team), but it was still a stupid idea that was executed horribly. Although, still not as bad as MARTHA forever will be.

I'm sorta glad that in the end they're going back to just having random films with "good" ideas and not caring so much about a shared universe. Snyder probably wouldn't have been able to pull off a Crisis anyway. Or Darkseid.

I actually really like BVS. I like it better than almost all of the MCU movies. Maybe better than all of them.

I can see why people don’t like it, but imo, it at least is trying to do something a bit different than just trying to make an MCU copycat with DC characters,

Yeah, the Martha scene is bad, but there’s like 5 terribly acted scenes in Infinity War alone, so it’s not like the MCU is some sort of “better quality” filmmaking.

I also really dislike the animation style in that Spider-Man movie. It kind of hurts my eyes to watch it, and I’m not sure if I will see the movie because of it even though I like the premise and Spider-Man in general. It’s like they made it intentionally low frame rate as a stylistic choice but it just doesn’t work for me. It’s like it’s skipping frames or something but it’s clearly intentional.

the DC of BvS is the best cape movie since Spider-Man 2.

IW is just 5 minutes of shitty quips from actors cashing a big check behind a green screen into a 8 minute cgi fight for two hours. No thanks. Zack Snyder already did that, with more depth and artistry more style 8 years ago with Sucker Punch.

I’m not sure I’d say BvS is a good movie, but I at least find it more interesting then most MCU movies. It’s got good ideas, but I guess maybe the question is if those ideas are even worthwhile. At this point Superman and Batman are almost American mythic characters and the movie representations of them may even be more limited in interpretation as movies as a medium have to strip these characters down. So I’m not sure if broken versions of these characters are wanted.

But I do find it interesting that’s the story they chose to tell. A broken Batman who doesn’t trust anything or anyone. Who has somewhat given up. A conflicted Superman constantly question his role in a very complicated world. A “realistic” world that is still continuing to respond to a Superman existing. Almost personified by a Luthor who just really needs to prove that all good can not exist.

I think there’s an interesting story there, but I just don’t know if Snyder really is the right person to tell it. I don’t even dislike Snyder. He can direct exciting and well shot action scenes. His movies have a unique visual touch and he creates great mood and atmosphere. Honestly the visual direction of the DC movies is above the Marvel ones which often look bland and lack anything memorable. They lack personality.

But he is a director who likes to create a very dark atmosphere. His movies are grimy and BvS is pretty relentless with that. I don’t think everything has to be fun. But see even The Dark Knight offers some pause. BvS is at all times dark and depressing. From the characters, the coloring, the tone, and so on. And I’m not sure it really works.

I also like Sucker Punch.

I also like Man of Steel except that I think the fights are way overdone, Superman isn’t as heroic as I’d want, and Pa Kent is kind of a shitty character.

Civil War and Winter Solider are still better though. Those movies rock.

If I'm being honest outside of the Avenger's movies. The MCU movies that I really like are Civil War, Winter Solider, Iron Man 3, Spider-man Homecoming, and GoTG 1/2. Everything else outside of I guess the first two Thor movies is decent to pretty good if you ask me.

I saw Predator last night.

It was a decent, enjoyable action movie, IMO. It’s better than any of the AVP movies, that’s for sure.

I Feel like most of the terrible reviews just want it to be something it’s not. It reminded me Of a somewhat more serious Ash vs Evil Dead. There are horror elements, but it’s not really a scary movie. It’s not even intended to be. It’s very obviously just an action flick.

I’m not really sure how they managed to drop $80 mil on it though. Predators had Laurence Fishburne and Adrian Brody And was still only like $40 million to make. This movie has “a couple of guys you might recognize from HBO shows” and some how cost $80.

I feel like it must have had production problems to get to that budget.

So... I know he's an acclaimed method actor, but even with all of that makeup, I could totally tell it was Christian Bale. Especially, the way he nods his head when he speaks.
All I could think was 'Batman is getting old'.
But it looks like it could be a great flick although some people on the internet(TM) have already noticed some inconsistencies with the real events based on this 1 minute trailer so FUN TIMES AHEAD.

Tried to watch Operation Final on Netflix.  Turned it off after 20min when I couldn't even stay engaged. Another 'remember what the nazis did' story. It's getting tiresome that Hollywood has to spit these out every year, and they are essentially the same damn movie at this point.

I ended up sitting for Black 47 which ok. At least I finished it.

I specifically remember Verhoeven saying that some of the cuts to achieve the R-rating [like the guy getting shot up in the boardroom by ED-209] actually made the violence seem worse than the deliberately over-the-top violence of the original cut.

Just came back from A Star is Born. This type of melodrama is like catnip to me. And I was all in, my dudes. Such a good flick.

I never really understood why people consider Deniro a good actor until I saw Once Upon a Time in America.

People would say he's a good actor and i'd say "him? The guy from Meet the Parents???"

You may want to check out Godfather Part II and Raging Bull, I heard he's decent in those.

It makes me kinda sad that some of these great actors will not be known for their best roles by the younglings.

"Michael Caine?"
"You mean, the pilot voice in Dunkirk?"

"Al Pacino?"
"Oh, from Stand up guys. Yeah, I watched that on Netflix"

The future is grim.

I don't care if this sucks (it won't bless up) I'm just happy to see Ronon Dax win.
