Hooked up Hulu which I didn't even know I had a free account from Spotify, to check out
Portrait of a Lady on Fire aka the movie that got a ton of hype earlier this year. Was gonna see it in the theater when it was out but was sick during that time.
I guess I'm too dense & male and this movie just didn't gel with me

, the cinematography was nice looking framing and usage of colors with the dresses, and the plot was good, but my god was this movie a slow burn of very...little...happening. I kept waiting for it to get really good because so many people have praised this like it's blown them away and one of the greatest movies ever and that intensity never came.
I'm reading up on articles on it to see what I'm missing. I just wonder if as a guy I can't relate to the female gaze. Even the romance stuff just seemed really weirdly sudden but I guess I just missed all the little looks and things that a woman might notice that was the build up for the romance. One thing was that it felt like neither main character was very emotive, but I get that was a period time restrained thing, but it also took away from the impact of the romance since both characters had to hold back 90% of their emotions the whole time.
Was still a good movie, but thought it was pretty dull.
Then I watched
Misery because I saw on Hulu they have Castle Rock and I never watched S2 which is about Annie Wilkes from Misery so I figured I better watch Misery since I never read/watched that one. You know, for a 90s movie it still holds up pretty okay. James Caan's & Kathy Bates performances are great and really carry the movie and keep it exciting. It's not scary or shocking in 2020, but it's exciting. I read up on the differences from the book and the book sounds a lot darker and more intense and fucked up horror story that would be an enjoyable read at some point. Now I'm ready to watch S2 of Castle Rock!
