Yeah, I honestly am confused about how anyone could hate on Saints Row 2. If anyone claims they like any 3D GTA (3, 4, and the in between) then Saints Row 2 is basically the same formula expanded and with good -- or not garbage -- core mechanics. It's like people sit around thinking "boy, I wish I could have trouble making a 150 degree turn while going under 20 mph", or "I wish my character had trouble walking through a door because he is unable to grasp the concept of having a body", or "I wish I could target a guy running across the street as I'm getting shoot by someone a few feet from me", or "I wish I didn't have fun playing a video game", or "I wish I could fail a mission because my character died by tripping on stairs". I can keep the list going on for a while, but you get the general idea.
And the characters in Saints Row 2 are so much better than the shitty cast of shitty friends in GTA4. Arguably the best character in GTA4, Brucie, is outdone by one of the lesser character in Saints Row 2, Pierce. For all the "Oscar worthy script" nonsense, the alluding to Pierces homosexuality was more tasteful and entertaining than all the shitty dates and phone calls you needed to 'experience' for Brucie. Driving in a car only to have Pierce start singing Usher is brilliant.
