Question:

Is this game structured like the first in that you get to do alot of the gang missions but you don't get to play THE final mission for the gang until you're up to the final mission for all of them? I ask because I did I guess all but the last Ronin missions and none of the other ones, but I can't do anymore Ronin ones
spoiler (click to show/hide)
and I doubt they'd end that storyline on that old chink getting away on a motorcycle.
[close]

Otherwise so far i'm lovin the Samedi storyline. This game has C level writing which is an upgrade from SR1's F level writing, so i've legitimately laughed at some parts this time (
spoiler (click to show/hide)
that one guy coming in to the crib with his helicopter helmet
[close]
  :lol)

The only things i hate about it so far:

A. Still hate the gun system. Personal preference.
B. Volition has about the brain capacity of a half a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow in placing where you start the missions. One Ronin mission had to be activated in the north east of the map...yet the cutscene shows you in the saints main crib...wtf
C. I'm getting lost on some of the references to the old characters in the first game and cameos...I can only imagine how lost PS3 players are.
D. Activites cutscenes...I know you only get one, but everyone is oblivious to you, and act like they knew you were coming or they requested you.

Other than that, amazing game so far.

even if it is personal preference, it's still the same basic controls as most fps/tps games.  It's like that complaint in the IGN review where the guy wanted GTA style lock on because he was too lazy to point to head to kill

i think the writing nails the thrust of these games better than even gta4 -- that this is gangsta life as pulp fiction, as hilarious adolescent fantasy, and fuckin' runs with it. gta4 is a wannabe leonard elmore-esque hard knocks plot wrapped up in a game where nico shoots random pedestrians by the metric ton, causes multicar pileups, and nukes helicopters all in space of an hour or two. the writing for sr2, unlike sr1, is now very self-aware that stillwater is a childishly exaggerated playground for gangsta cliches, and plays right along with it, never breaking stride to engage in dull and unwelcome drama.

I just don't think the FPS style of control fits a TPS.

And yeah, i'm glad I haven't ran across any adolescent jokes yet like there was in SR1. Although I really, really, really, hate the voice of my character...why couldn't they put in a regular sounding voice instead of wankster brit, wankster whitey, wankster nignog. :(

Oh yeah, the game is awesome fun so far :D.

For some reason I thought of playing GTA4 today, so I started it up hoping it was somewhat better than I remembered.  what a shitty game.  even the third person driving camera is garbage.

Installing Saints Row 2 to my 360 right now so I can play online a bit before L4D.  Seriously takes a dump all over GTA4.  I can't believe I was thinking about borrowing it for the 360 when the DLC came out.

STFU it's not that bad.

if you were bored enough you can go back and find all the posts where I say that GTA4 was alright but people really made it into more than it was, but that was, as I just discovered, the game having some sort of weird stockholm effect on me.  Subconsciously I somewhat defended the game because I didn't want to feel like I jumped through hoops for 30 hours attempting to find amusement in that depressing game.

how the fuck did any person think that having your car in the right middle of the screen was a good idea.  I'm now convinced that everyone working on the game was cracked up making this to see how much people would endure before admitting that beyond the game there are few redeeming qualities.

I'll also like to retract what I said about GTA4 looking better than Saints Row 2.  It doesn't.  My eyes hurt from the brown, the jaggies, the blur, the inconsistent frame rate, the sloppy animations WHEN DOES IT END.

I'm in shock right now from how my memories misled me on GTA4s quality.  Saints Row 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GTA4

Uhh what sandbox game doesnt have you car flat in the center?

Also, i'm sorry, but GTA4's city looks way better than Saint Rows. SR's still looks like an xbox game, which is fine because it has great gameplay, but visual wise it's shit. Plus it somehow manages to run shittier than GTA4, which confuses me, because GTA's city is much better looking and more vivid and has more stuff in it.

Oh and ragging and nitpicking is different than bashing.

Saints Row 2? GTA San Andrea? almost any good racing game in forever? they didn't put you dead in the flat middle of the screen.

and vivid isn't a word I would ever associate with GTA4.  Dull is more suitable.

Multiplayer is surprisingly fun and it totally makes sense for a sandbox game.  They basically give you a chunk of the city to mess around in, then every once in a while there is a new objective that pops up.  So it's several different game modes inside of that one game, then in the end it all adds up and the winner is decided.  If you want to ignore the objectives, you can just kill the opposing team and earn points that way instead.

And the game loads so fast now.  In no time I was riding the satchel charge covered Akira inspired bike into a crowd, killing everyone, grabbing a nearby cop and using him as cover while I shot down a helicopter with my assault rifle using only one hand.  Then I used my pimp cane to kill the police officer.  Then I threw some random person into a wall before cracking his skull with my pimp cane.

Srsly, can you install Ignore again? My eyes have been rolling so much my hands automatically start typing that emote unconsciously.  ::)

I can't believe in a game where all urban culture is parodied mercilessly, an ambiguously beige, possibly black, possibly middle-eastern, possibly pacific islander fattie in a thong can be considered a direct, "over the line" racial attack. ::)

I've had three freezes, and I've only had the game since Friday. Definitely not my 360, either, as that's just come back from repair. I mean, it's not that bad, since it autosaves pretty often, but it's a little frustrating to have to turn the whole console off.

Great game though.

funny becuase I managed to beat all activities in Saints Row 1, but I found GTA4 quite tough because it sucked so bad

With those drug dealing missions at least you could jack a new vehicle if your old one got fucked. With Tow Truck youve got one truck for the whole 10 levels of the diversion

Are you sure? I am positive the problem I had was that the Drug Dealer vehicle kept getting trashed, and blowing up. The only way I finished was to mash "recruit - recruit - recruit" while playing so that ANY Saint nearby would join, and they'd get on the FBI/cop/rival gang's ass enough to let me finish. I only finished that activity after I had taken over almost every territory in the game, which made the available recruits plentiful.

yeah, the trick I used is when the drug dealing vehicle starts smoking, next time you stop to make a drug deal, hop out and jack a cop car or whatever else is near. the dealer will follow you into the new (fresh, undamaged) vehicle and start driving it and go on with the deliveries. In more desperate situations I have bailed out of a flaming car and survived and still manged to pass the stage. It actually makes the FBI a blessing in disguise, as you can grab their fast, durable SUV's. Makes the later levels much easier.

I never would have thought to switch vehicles in those drug dealing missions. Does this work in Saints Row 1 as well? I got to the highest mission while sticking with one vehicle the whole time, I bet switching to fresh vehicles would have made it way easier.  :lol
