Players will now be able to trade soulbound items with other raid or group members that were eligible for the loot. This system will work like the Item Buy Back system and allow 2 hours for players to trade an item after it has been looted. Players who choose to enchant or add gems to the item will get one last confirmation before losing the ability to trade the item.

wut, how did I not hear about this

Yea and I was doing a quick Kara run last night for some lowbie upgrades for friends and the 70 DK in the group ninja'd almost ever purple and blamed it on lag. Fucking shithead.

He was the raid leader. Everyone bailed after he did the same thing at the Big Bad Wolf.

He was also a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow who didn't know his way around the zone or that Kara required a key to get in.

Oh god on top of unplayable lag, BGs are broken. You're in a raid, but you're being spammed with "YOU AREN'T IN A PARTY". Instead of respawning at the healer, you pop up where you die and have to run to get ressed.

Did the new instance on normal and heroic. Was surprised at the drops on normal; there are a few good trinkets I saw, and others I saw linked in guild/trade chat.

It's kinda easy. The black knight's last phase is a little hard; it's basically an aotd attack and they constantly switch aggro, making my job annoying.

My server was slow for the first hour.  After that it was fine and we did the new raid without any real issues.  Ulduar 25 has a few issues, though.  Not my picture: http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/884/wowscrnshot080409181833.jpg

The exp you gain in BGs really isn't that great. It's not like DAoC or WAR where you can level exclusively in Frontiers/BGs since in WoW you don't get exp for kills.

The 100% devastate buff has definitely increased my dps. Haven't fully tested the rage changes yet. I did 1800dps in H CoS and had little rage problems due to all the adds; can't wait to do a raid though and see how much rage problems have improved.

Usually I can't spam HS in a heroic instance but I was pulling it off pretty easily in CoS, even on trash.

I installed coords and qh. Turned off the shitty arrow in QH and antlines. It doesn't feel like cheating as much as I thought it would. It feels completely fair. It makes the game feel more like Grand Theft Auto: "this is the general area of your mission, but you're still gong to have to do it." it helps with the quests I don't know where the fuck are, really, and that's the only reason I'm using it. Some quests are now no longer tedious and boring thanks to QH.

So you're bored, but you admit you haven't done any 80 content because it might be too hardcore? There's nothing hardcore about 10 man Naxx, or 25 man. You can start gearing yourself in heroics, getting your conquest badges, start some dailies if you want/need gold, etc

Got my Lock to 55 last night, havent had much time to play WoW lately due to work.  Although my guild ran me through Black Rock Mountain's first instance last night. Got to loot everything since they were all 80s.

Just 3-4 more levels and off to Outland for me.

Yea man, having a good guild makes the game so much better. Starting out I had a fun time with my first guild but ultimately there wasn't much community; it was a few lower level people like me, lots of higher level people. My previous guild had lots of community and people who are my favorite players/people to this day. But the guild leader was...unstable and it wasn't a very active guild, so I left.

My new guild is full of very good players, we raid all the time etc. But the community is weak imo. The guild leader bitches at people during raids, tempers flair in guild chat, etc. In fact right now many people are upset the guild leader has been unreliable lately. He set up a raid for yesterday, got pissed over some bullshit, then signed out. We wound up raiding without him luckily, then voted to give raid scheduling privileges to someone else, and there's gonna be an officers meeting to discuss some of the moody feelings going around. Of course this was all done while the guild leader was offline so who knows how he'll react when he learns about it.

IMO a poisoned atmosphere leads to this, and sadly that's what has been cultivating for a long time. Hard to  change that

Ony being converted to 10/25 man in 3.2.2:
Quote
She has lurked in her lair and done battle with the many brave adventurers who travelled to that familiar location over the years. Now, in honor of the World of Warcraft 5-year anniversary, the dreaded brood mother Onyxia is being revamped to make a return to the forefront of Azeroth, as part of our big plans for the upcoming 3.2.2 content patch.

This permanent update to Onyxia will convert the dungeon into 10- and 25-player modes. We will be adding new items to Onyxia's loot table that have the same model as some of the classic loot from this dungeon, like Tier 2 helms, with stats updated to match the current level of content. There will be a special new item too: a normal drake-sized 310% speed flying mount modeled after Onyxia herself called an Onyxia Broodling. We will also be updating the encounter mechanics to be more fitting for modern raiding, but we can guarantee players will get to experience the frightening horror of deep breaths once again.

Then for a limited time, after the 5-year anniversary event officially begins in November, anybody who logs in will receive an Onyxia Brood Whelpling pet.

We're very excited to bring this classic encounter back to provide a fun new experience for both new and veteran players. Further details will be available in the near future, and we will be setting up the Public Test Realms soon to help test out this fight along with all the new content we have planned for the patch. Keep an eye on the forums for updates!

armory isn't loading well for some reason. Oh well here's mine

Etiolet is right, it does seem more like a job than a game now. I want to raid/progress sure, but at the end of the day I want to have fun. People being late to raids is a problem, yes. But it shouldn't lead to someone being yelled at.

Update: about 8 people left the guild last night, including the guy who was given scheduling duties. He was upset people were late, bitched at someone who was late (but hadn't signed up), then rage quit lol. The good thing is that all the biggest trouble makers left with him. So now the guild leader is like "well looks like we'll be doing 10 mans exclusively now.."

If people show up we can do anything imo. In fact there were no big problems until last week when 3.2 came out; we canceled raiding for the most part so people could get badges. Perfectly reasonable thing to do, but some people complained. So that plus last night's raid debacle led people to quit, which is ridiculous; usually we breeze through 10 and 25 mans.

Amazing gear, PD. Too bad you're Ally. :'(

And you guys are right about it being like a job. First time I wanted to do a normal TotC (wanted to farm rings and trinkets) I was asked to link my Epic Achievement. :lol

I had the achievement, but I realized that the requirements to enter groups were becoming ridiculous. The achievement system in WoW has done more bad than good.

I had the streaming demo last night, but thought I'd upgrade to the installed demo today.  Instead of waiting 6 hours to download it, I went ahead and bought a $2 trial disc at gamestop.  I install the trial disc and it's all "Download this update!  Est. time: 2 minutes." A little inconvenience, but not unexpected.  It downloads the update, which was an installer....that's currently downloading and installing 4gb of data on my goddamn macbook.

I don't know what to do with this game.  I hear you choose nightelf if you're a cigarillo.  any recommendations?

I usually just grind for a few days, get bored, then get a trial the next time I wanna play and start over. Makes me wish there were something similar to it offline (not phantasy star, or even Diablo 2...need something huge and OTS.)  I could play forever, but that monthly charge makes it hard.

Draenei (Alliance) and Blood Elves (Horde) have the best starting areas in the game if you have the Burning Crusade trial activated. A lot of beginners pick elf hunters to fulfill their Legolas fantasies. Pick whichever race you find most interesting. My favorite two races in classic WoW are Night Elves and Tauren, them being Alliance and Horde respectively.

I recommend making a rogue (melee) or a mage (caster) as they're both great starter classes. I think druids are the most fun class, but they have a steep learning curve (same goes for warlocks).

If you have any interest in PVP make your rogue undead or orc for the racials. The character models are better too, anyway.

Druids are fun due to the high versatility in their specs. Feral dps = rogue like, Feral tank = warrior like, Balance = mage like, Resto = Priest like. Obviously there are a lot of things that make the druid more unique than the spec it plays like but you get the idea.

I recently canceled my account though since it seems the general game community has taken a massive drop in quality. Now it's all just mouthy tanks that can't hold aggro and fire/acid/gas cloud humping dps that think they are gods gift to the game. The last week I played I just stopped healing people that were doing stupid shit in attempt to save my sanity a bit. But that didn't work. I don't know who is healing in my raid group now, don't really care anymore.

MMO Champion leaked Cataclysm:
Quote
None of the information below has been officialy announced by Blizzard, this is only a compilation of information gathered from reliable sources. Just keep in mind that it takes a LOT to make me post something on the front page and I'm definitely not speculating here.

Other sites started it, I'll try to finish it. Think twice before you read this post, we have a lot of spoilers here.

Most of this stuff will be announced at the Blizzcon anyway, if you didn't take the time to order the live stream you might want to consider doing it. We will probably see a lot of interesting things here.
Quote from: Blizzard (Source)
This year, for the first time, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy a live Internet stream of BlizzCon coverage from the comfort of your own home. The stream includes the same content as the DIRECTV pay-per-view event, but you do not have to be a DIRECTV subscriber to purchase it. It consists of over 16 hours of video, including interviews and commentary, main stage presentations, and tournament coverage. It’s now available to order for $39.95, and purchasers will also receive the BlizzCon 2009-exclusive in-game pet, Grunty the Murloc Marine (not available in all regions). Head over to the BlizzCon 2009 Live Stream website to get more information, to test video playback on your system, or to place an order.

http://blizzcon.rayv.com/

Forums - The WoW Cataclysm General Discussions forum is now available.

Update - Another update from the Something Awful forums has been confirmed and is now integrated to the post. (The original quote was removed by the author's request on SA)

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is the next expansion for World of Warcraft. Dark and forgotten threats that have long stayed out of sight have finally arrived on our shores, unleashing a cataclysmic event upon Azeroth and now preparing more nefarius plans to take it back.

Level Cap
The level cap in the next expansion will be slightly lower than expected this time around; 85.

This suggests Blizzard wants more room for expansions before hitting the level 100 cap. With less leveling to do (along with the revamped leveling listed below likely to increase the speed and ease of leveling), leveling a new race remains appealing for new and existing players alike.

Leveling from 80-85 should be a much bigger deal, the idea is to make sure that gaining a level really means something and doesn't make you feel like you just have 4 more levels to go.

New Classes
Cataclysm doesn't introduce any new classes to the game. Instead, Blizzard have offered more race and classes combinations to players. The Some of these have alreadly been datamined from the 3.2.2 Test Realms. The An Injured Colleague quest and it's new Night Elf counter-part help to introduce the lore for these new race and class combinations, so we can probably expect to see more of these for some of the less traditional ones.

Human Hunter
Orc Mage
Night Elf Mage
Dwarf Mage
Blood Elf Warrior
Dwarf Shaman
Undead Hunter
Tauren Paladin
Tauren Priest
Gnome Priest
Troll Druid

New Races
The events of the cataclysm has caused two new races to seek new allies. The Goblins for the Horde and the Worgen for the Alliance.

Goblins
Deathwing once again sought the services of the goblins, as slaves. Unable to refuse such an offer, the goblins were enslaved by him. A large group have resisted however. With their previous homes devastated by the cataclysm, they escaping to an island off the coast of The Barrens. As they strive to recover, they come across an Orc captured on an Alliance ship and rescue him. The Orc turns out to be none other than Thrall himself, and in return offers the Goblins a place within the Horde. These events are carried out in a quest line, allowing players to experience first-hand the reasons behind the Goblins' shift from neutrality.

Worgen
The cataclysm has cracked open the Greymane Wall, finally revealing what has happened to the kingdom of Gilneas and its citizens. With the Worgen cruse taken hold, they have found a partial cure, allowing thme to retain their Human minds evne when transformed. Venturing forth from Gilneas and seeking help from the Alliance, they have decided to join them, to combat the new threats of Cataclysm.

Gilneas will make extensive use of the phasing system (much like the Death Knight starting area), to show what happened while the kingdom was cut off from the rest of the world and lead up to present day.

Worgens will have two forms, a Worgen form and a Human form. Players will be able to customise the look of both forms.

New Content
Cataclysm will be the first expansion not to introduce a new continent, instead making use of previously unreleased zones and revamping existing ones.

Classic Azeroth Revamp
A cataclysmic event caused by Deathwing and Azshara will change the face of Azeroth as we know it. Most of the new content for Cataclysm will take the form of a revamped Azeroth, taking advantage of newer additions to WoW such as phasing and daily quests. Most of the quests and mobs in the classic zones will also be redesigned to make leveling less painful. With the revamp, a greater narritive and sense progression will be offered to players. Some zones and dungeons will change drastically to fit this, e.g.,

The Barrens will be split into two separate zones of two different level bands.
Azshara will become a low level (~10-20) zone.
Some of the zones like the Thousand Needles will be flooded.
Durotar is wrecked and apparently Orgrimmar could be destroyed. A new Orc city is rebuilt over the course of the expansion.
Gnomeregan will be part of the expansion as well and gnomes might be able to reclaim their capital. (The last part is still unconfirmed)
Wailing Caverns will be become a lush tropical area as a result of the druid's magic.
The Blackrock Spire will erupt and a new version of Blackrock Mountains will be available, apparently Ragnaros will be back too.

In the aftermath of the cataclysm, and the new conflicts on the horizon relief efforts can be found in many zones and new open PvP areas similar to Lake Wintergrasp.

Flying in Azeroth
Part of the redesign of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor is the introduction of flying to the two continents, allowing access to many new areas and quicker travelling across the large continents.

Classic Dungeon Revamp
Redesigning Onyxia's Lair in Patch 3.2.2 was just the first step. As most of the leveling will take place in revamped areas of Azeroth, so too will the dungeons, allowing players to use them to level from 80 to 85.

Unreleased Zones & Dungeons
With the addition of flying mounts to Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms and the redesign of many zones, most of the previously unreachable or incomplete zones will now be made available to players. This is where most of the new content from 80 to 85 will take place. Some of these are,

Hyjal (present)
Gilneas - The Worgen starting Zone.
Uldum

It is unclear if the old Goblin locations such as Kezan and Undermine will be included in Cataclyms with the revelation of the goblins' plight, but several new islands have also been risen from the seas by the events of Cataclysm, some on the backs of giant sea turtles and whales, with the addition of several underwater zones.

Characters and Events

Deathwing
Deathwing the Destroyer / Neltharion the Earth-Warder will play a major role in Cataclysm. Having been driven mad by Old God whisperings and turning against his own kind only to be fail in his attempts, Deathwing has sunk into the shadows. While the Horde and the Alliance were busy fighting back the Burning Legion only to then be beset with the Scourge, he has been lurking and moving things into place. After Lady Sinestra's failed attempts to create a Twilight Dragonflight, he again retreated to Grim Batol and succeeded where she failed. With his results seen in the Obsidian Sanctum, he has finally created the supreme Dragonflight he sought and plans to unleash it upon the world. But what of the Old Gods' sway over him?

Azshara
Queen Azshara will also play a major part in Cataclysm. Unknown to many mortal races, long forgotten by others, and believe to be dead by her own kind, she has not been dormant in depths of the Maelstrom. Having those around her transformed by the Old Gods into Naga after her failure in the War of the Ancients, she has become far more powerful and a greater threat than she once was. Not content with just Nazjatar and the depths of the sea, Azshara seeks to reclaim power and reign once again. With the true plan behind Lady Vashj's support of Illidan remaining a mystery we do not know what hand Azshara has yet played. The big question remains, is she now serving her "saviors", the Old Gods?

The Cataclysm
I'm still not sure who is the true end boss of Cataclysm is, but the cataclysm appears to have been caused by attempts to incantation to summon extremely powerful beings using an ancient incantation by Deathwing and Azshara. They're both very powerful, but the cataclysm itself suggests something more powerful is behind it, perhaps their shared past of Old God influence?

The Guardian of Tirisfal
Malfurion Stormrage will be returning to Azeroth to aid in the creation of the new Guardian of Tirisfal - Thrall! Med'an's role in these events is currently unknown.

The New (New) Horde
Thrall will hand over the leadership of the Horde to Garrosh Hellscream, while he serves as a coordinator for both the Horde and Alliance forces in and effort to combat the new threat of the Naga and Black Dragonflight. Without Thrall to keep Garrosh in check, he declares open war on the Alliance. In the political upheaval Cairne Bloodhoof is implicated as a traitor to the Horde and murdered by Garrosh. Cairne's son Baine takes over as the new Tauren chieftan. This could explain why Baine was removed from the game in Patch 3.2.2, you can find more information about this in Ahmo Thunderhorn - replacement for Baine Bloodhoof?

Beat the Northrend Beasts tonight. :rock

Only got to try the next boss once. Dunno if it bugged or what, but multiple people got DC'd and couldn't sign back in. We died on our only try but honestly he didn't seem too hard

Any word on what classes the new races can play as?  I was hoping for a new anti-melee, counter-caster class. Dorf Shamans is a weird idea.

Didn't Blizzard say they're adding a hero class with each new expansion? I hope that's the case. No hero class in Cataclysm would be a massive disappointment (and I wanted to roll an archdruid ever since it was rumoured). The game would benefit from a healer hero class.

And troll druids make no sense at all. High/blood elf druids do, though:

I know. I was wondering what classes the worgen/goblins will play.  If troll is really getting Druid, the I imagine Worgen is getting druid as well.

I'm fine with no new hero class. Adding new races/new combinations sounds good. 5 lv (80-85) cap sounds interesting as well. Making high leveling a challenge could be pretty damn fun.

I exchanged my fury off spec for arms. It's definitely more exciting than fury; I had a fury rotation but ultimately was just facerolling to good dps, but being rage starved. Arms seems to be less about rotation and more about priorities, and making sure you use CDs correctly. In that sense it's like building threat as a tank; I could just spam one attack, but doing various ones in my rotation keeps threat high. With arms it keeps dps high. Can't wait to test it in a raid situation

yup

Do you also post on the mmo-champion boards? I noticed the avatar when I saw it on mmo and then in that gaf thread.

What I wish they would do with the new races is allow people to start at 58 like they did with DKs. It would help balance out class population if more classes could skip past leveling to 50.

We cleared all three bosses available in the Trial of the Crusader raid tonight. Honestly the hardest part about the entire thing was the second phase of Northrend Beasts. Those two worms are annoying. Of course once you get by them it's basically a cake walk since Icehowl is easy

Lord Jaraxxus is a long ass fight, we two shotted him. Seemed like OTing the adds would be fun, I want to do that next time; I was on boss so I could tank/interrupt his fireball attack.

The Faction Champions is one of the coolest raid fights I've come across. Maybe it's because I rarely pvp so a lot of the strategies were relatively new to me. We wiped three times, each time making progress. On the fourth try we had the CC/dispells/interrupts/etc down and totally destroyed it.

Almost every armor drop was plate, which pissed our casters off ha. In fact Northrend Beasts dropped the exact same dps plate belt/gauntlets that dropped last week. An awesome tanking trinket dropped tho, but I didn't get it (I don't see it on wowhead)

So yea, we were definitely surprised we cleared the place, without our top tier 10 man group. After that we went to ulduar and one shotted General Vezax. So in two days we cleared Ulduar and the available bosses in ToC. Now we can focus on Yogg for rest of week
