Fallout, well, supposedly this was going to be huge, it was gonna really be selling like hotcakes, and apparently it isn't, so while it ain't a bomba, i don't think it's doing as good as some thought.

Bethesda said Fallout 3 only sold 4.7 Million units worldwide during it's first week. Clearly a failure.

just reached in to see the carnage

360 - good job

ps3- holy fucking shit, price drop is needed but they are basically in the shoes MS was some time ago (decent to crappy hardware sales, heading to the black)

Wii - WOW now thats fucking crazy.

I briefly toyed with the idea a few weeks ago, but was put off because almost no players on the market that can access the new features of the still-being-updated blu ray format. Whether they will or can be updated in the future is uncertain.

Virtually the only thing that's up to date is the PS3 because it's software can be updated easily.

Clearly shipped.

And it's clear those 4.7 million units will be sitting idle for a long ass fucking time in store shelves allover the world. Clearly, the expectation of demand was MUCH higher from retailers part.

You will be seeing tons of Fallout 3 copies in the 5$ cart in the future i'm sure.

I didn't get specific names, but was told it's big ones we've heard of.  We all know Eidos is toast, and I kinda sorta worry for THQ/Take2.

It's really the developers who are in immediate trouble.  Everything is in limbo I guess.  Really bad times :(

It's like if MGS4 had only sold 300k. It's the sequel to one of the best PS3 exclusives. A lot of people have been exposed to it.
And it's gotten good reviews. The realistic expectations of this game are much higher than it actually performed.

I'm sure the recession is killing these publishers, but i also am fairly sure that they will just be either bought or replaced by new publishers belonging to a bigger company.

Like warner and stuff like that.

How many independent developers are really left to be in danger?

It's more like teams on games at big studios who may not get to finish games.  Aagain I don't know particulars, so as a for instance, EA will kill WAR and tell Criterion they need to stop on their non-Burnout game.  THQ will tell Relic there aren't any marketing dollars left for Warhammer.  So less sales/less royalties, then THQ comes back and says they can't sustain Relic's burn rate.  Same with the Skate2/EA team.

These are just examples I was given to illustrate the point.

Oh :(

EA is really going to kill warhammer online? I thought it was successful...I guess it must be particularly bad if teams on successful projects are going to be downsized. You'd figure they'd just trim the teams that aren't hacking it (like EA chicago got axed), but Skate was a big success I thought.

No no no I used those names as an example.  I should have said theoretically.  That would be the thinking.  EA in particular will have some tough choices ahead.  WAR and Spore are well behind expectations.

yeah, i hear at EA they are basically having rolling cuts so you never know who is going to go next , month on month.

Not that that's any different to other industries really :(

welcome to end times.

Again, I don't know particulars . . .

But what the hell will happen at EALA?  That Tibirium game got canned.  Medal of Honor is dead.  Do the Read Alerts and C&Cs bring in money?

I feel bad now for making that snarky Sony thread.  I was just wanting to poke fun at Sony fans on another forum.  I will leave the meanness to the experts.

"i wonder if dcu online will end up getting canned"

I don't think there's room in the MMO space for anything but WoW.  At least until someone can figure out an FPSMMO

Xboat is steady, software doing great, third parties are very happy with it.

PS3,what to say,no words for both hardware and software,no wonder that Sony has been hyping 2009,10 games like crazy lately, hope

To be fair, GameCube was $99 at this point in the generation. (Not that it's supposed to make PS3 numbers look better, because it doesn't.)

MAG just sounds like one of those "Too early for the concept" type of games.

I'm dying for Heavy Rain, Infamous, Killzone 2, Alan Wake...they can ditch every game and turn into a Party game with a peripheral for all i care, after i have those.

I don't know about that, though. Joint Operations is pretty old by now, and no one has really bothered with taking up where they left off. It doesn't sound particularly impossible, but I can see the whole thing failing due to lack of player dedication.

Then again, I don't know much about Zipper.

It's so stupid the whole Medal of Honor situation. I mean, after all those WW2 games you would think they would finally make the jump to a "modern" setting, but they came out with Airborne. Tough luck.

They can still revive imo, but they would have to come swinging with some shit as big as COD4.

it had a great cover system, and i liked the whole "drop zone" way of entering the levels

everyone complains about WWII, but i bet if we did a count of fps games released this gen "modern" settings would outnumber the WWII about 3 to 1

Well i was expecting somebody to say that when i was writing it, but fact is World at War came after COD4. People just went for the next COD title, independently of being modern or not. But if they released COD ww next year again, i don't know if it would slide well.

Fact is, COD4 really made COD big. And Medal Of Honor needed a modern setting game, too bad. Medal of Honor sounds better than Call of Duty.
