Man, I want to put a preorder down but after the whole GTA4 thing turned out I don't know which system to buy it for.  I've been pretty much avoiding all RDR hype so I don't know anything regarding the differences, if there's any at all.  Anyone heard anything about it?  If it's just minor BS, I'll more than likely pick it up for the 360 but if it's going to be another GTA4 situation, I may have to try both to see which one I prefer.

Nobody knows.

RDR is following Crysis 2,Rage pattern...360 footage is used to hype and sell the game

But,i don't think that PS3 version will be total mess or unplayable...Rockstar wants money

Either way i am sure that resident TripleA pixel counter will be here to point out any differences.

Porting to PC does not cost much. Plus a release 6 months after the console versions would take care of the warez kiddies.
I think you're underestimating some other ancillary costs, such as the QA needed for the various hardware environments. GTA IV shipped as barely playable on PC, was later patched, and still probably didn't sell for crap compared to the console version. The effort that went into GTA IV probably provided some interesting ROI data, as in "it's not worth it" and that's where there's no RDR on PC.

"Are you finding your Red Dead Redemption experience too mild? Download the Chili Sauce DLC pack today! You'll find brand new character customisation options, such as burritos for your gun holsters, and a nacho hat! But be warned, this will make you an even tastier target for the Mountain Lions and Coyotes! There are no refunds for this item."
"Wow, your DLC is awesome! Can I wear your hat?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because it is my hat, it is nacho hat."

A PC version might be coming if only based on how many sources continually listed it as a PC/360/PS3 game.  Right now with the 360 vs PS3 version, it is safe to assume the 360 version is better.  I have played all three versions of GTA4 quite a bit (vanilla on PS3, episodes on 360, messing around on PC) and the 360 version of GTA4 is a noticeable improvement over the PS3 version, I thought; not just in how it looked, but it seemed to run smoother.  The PC version was an even greater improvement over the 360 version.  Obviously it would look and run better on improved hardware but the stand out thing for me was that the controls were far more responsive using a 360 controller.  I'm getting RDR on the 360 and will double dip on the PC eventually.  Skipping over the PS3 step entirely.

Also, consider that GTA3, VC, SA, 4, Episodes, and Bully all came out months after the console versions.  Things can always be different, don't get me wrong, but there is some history there.  Don't know about the newest Midnight Club game and Table Tennis was 360 only (or on the Wii too...I don't remember)

I'm not too worried about how it will compare to GTA4.  I thought the episodes of liberty city were way better than regular GTA4 even just for some minor gameplay improvements (checkpoints? by gad, sir, rockstar are pioneers!) and from what I've read of RDR, it sounds even better.

I'm still wondering exactly how lock on works here.  My problem with free aim on the console versions of GTA4 was that the aiming felt more sluggish than Killzone 2, so I used lock on as a crutch.  The new lock on sounds like CoD4/MW2 now.

I think that's how they promoted GTA4 too but then it came out and both versions were so.....strange. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here but while the 360 version ran at a higher res and had a marginally better framerate the shadow dithering was incredibly distracting, so much so that I went out and bought the PS3 one but that had it's own issues as well.   The lighting was better on the PS3 and the shadows were smooth but it ran at a lower res, had a weird vasoline like filter, and the framerate dipped more often than the 360 one.  You just couldn't win either way.

Normally I can live with little differences here and there but they were pretty dramatic with GTA4.  I just hope it isn't going to be like that with RDR.  I don't want to have to buy both versions again.

Out priorities are different.  I don't think I even noticed the shadows on the 360 and immediately thought it was superior because it ran smoother.

Well I'm not normally like that but for whatever reason it bugged the crap out of me in GTA4....both versions.  I kept switching back and forth between the two because I couldn't figure out which one bothered me the least.

even if there was a pc version i sure as hell wouldn't buy it. it took R* a year and a to make gta4 pc playable. and even then it still doesn't support AA.

but the FPS mod along with a trainer make it pretty fun to play. something the vanilla version lacks!

I don't know how much you've seen of this game, but I think it has very little in common with the first one other than the western setting.  As for being too much like GTA4, it depends on what you hated about GTA4.  I mean, I hated the driving in GTA4 and that won't be an issue here unless the horses power slide at 10 mph.  No cellphones or any bullshit like that.

I'm quietly confident this will be something I really like. Hopefully it is.

If you ever played Lost and Damned online, that had a mode where you and a few other guys ride around and do various objectives.  It was really fun, actually.  The free roam mode seems to be like that but much bigger.  I don't know if competitive will be good, but just riding around, hunting, doing wild west shit with seven others sounds fun.  I'm still a bit confused if it is 16 player free roam, two groups of 8, or just 8 people total.

I did play a good deal of GTA 4 online back in the day. I'm skeptical for a couple of reasons.

1.) Games that have really long single player experiences generally have weak MP. Its because they dedicate a lot of resources to the single player because that is what sells the game and the MP is just a little bonus. That's the way I felt about GTA 4.
2.) Rockstar always struggles with the control aspect of a game. I'm willing to tolerate some janky controls in the SP but not in the MP.
3.) "Big Open World" MP experiences outside of Battlefield always feel janky to me. They don't tend to understand how to utilize all that open space.

I'll hope for the best though. I'd really love to play a western MP game. I really wanted to love the MP of GTA 4 because it had a lot of great concepts in it with potential but it never really hit the mark. Maybe they will this time...

Marston is constantly repeating "I'm a married man"-no wild west sex  :'(

It would be awesome if he keeps referring to his wife Maryanne, and then finally at the end of the game he returns home, walks into the barn, says "I missed you so much, Maryanne," then you hear a horse whinny and it fades to black

Sounds like a modern day Ultima game. This has no PC version planned?

 ???

How is this anything like Ultima apart from that you can roam the wilds, kill beasts and banditos.

tbh I would kill for a modern day Ultima, fucking loved VII and VIII though I never finished them. Might check if gog has em.

GTA4 makes me leary about either version.  I want to try to see if I can hold out long enough to make an educated decision between the two, but who am I kidding.  I'll end up buying day 1 for one of them and then probably go out the next day and buy it for the other.

I think some of you are confused with the games multiplayer. It's fast paced, meaning, you won't have any duels or anything, as your opponent will be bunny hopping and slamming the fire button.

Oh man, Ichi is getting this? I so need to save the money for this shit. When is it coming out?

Yeah, I'm a sucker for Western-set games, and I'm hoping that this one'll have a spaghetti western soundtrack like Red Dead Revolver did.

I'm teaming up with you and the mexicans.

If I can name my multiplayer character, I'm going to be "The Swede", a European arms dealer who comes to America to profit from selling weapons across the border. 8)
