I've just looked at the reviews, and they do make a valid criticism of the responsiveness of the controls, but I feel like they're missing the point. If they're looking at it purely as a platformer then, yeah, it's not amazing. But I don't think the game is striving to be a platformer. It's a lot more like Conker's Bad Fur Day in my mind. It's hard to pigeon hold it to just one genre, because it's what it wants to be whenever it wants to be it. I don't know, it's hard to articulate. It's a very unique game that never takes itself seriously, and is zany and funny enough to be worth playing.

Well... Hate to so suddenly flip-flop, but I just put in another two hours. Getting close to the end and the game is getting REALLY frustrating. The last bit of this game IS trying to be a platformer and it's NOT good. It sucks because it feels like it just suddenly abandoned everything that was making it good. Now it demands precision jumping and aiming, and the controls just don't allow either. Plus the checkpoints are fucked. If you die you get warped back usually a substantial distance with next to no health, so it's easy to get stuck perpetually dying and respawning. Ignore everything I said before. This game is 2/3 awesome, 1/3 butt.

When I bought it a few years ago I had the intention to play it on my PSP, but I ended up using my PC with an emulator called pSX v1.13. (ePSXe 1.70 doesn't work with my ISO). The emulation is near perfect except for some kind of upscale filter and having save states is really convenient. For some reason the DQ series keep insisting that having eight screens of text is good thing when saving. Maybe it's political commentary on how priests need  to shut up and get to the point.

Was bored so I decided to download LBP2 from PSN since it's free for Plus members and it all came rushing back to me why I really, really don't like this series.  It's all charm and ideas but in no way fun at the same time.  Everything about it seems floaty and nonresponsive .  Who really gives a fuck if you can make a racing game or a shooter with this thing if the end result still plays like shit?  I don't care how many cutesy MGS you paste on this turd, it's still a turd.

Props to the idea behind the editor but that still doesn't make it much of a game.

Oh and I like how after I download the digital copy off PSN I then have to download 8 additional updates, each with their own seperate installs.  Brilliant.

Finished my Pure Platinum (no damage) run through Non-Stop Infinite Climax in Bayonetta. I never unequipped the Gaze of Despair (which makes enemies more aggressive & hard to combo due to the lack of hitstun), and I didn't use the Kilgore glitch or Pulley's Butterfly (both make the game a joke). Wound up with 58 million points total, which I assume is one of the highest legit scores in the game. It's impossible to tell who cheated though, so the leaderboards are kinda worthless.

Bayonetta 2 should be great if they fix all of the first game's problems. Most of the Alfheims are terrible, so if they're going to keep them, they should at least make them one-off challenge rooms that don't affect your score (like Secret Missions in DMC). I'd also make Torture Attacks give a fixed amount of points - currently, all of them require button mashing, and the faster you mash, the more points you get. Having to constantly hammer a button gets tiresome. All of the vehicle segments and QTEs are terrible as well, so hopefully they scrap both of those ideas. But flaws aside, it's still a great game and I'll be looking forward to the sequel.

Due to a heavy work schedule, I haven't had a lot of time to play games but I've been messing around with a few:

Borderlands 2 (PC) - I've been cursed with shitty loot drops for most of the game so I've been having a hard time making progress.  Well, in one instance, the random number generator must have been a good one because I got a bunch of great weapons at the level I'm at (21).  The game has been much easier ever since.  Now I'm at the point where I play through 2-3 missions at a time.  I want to get in there and push through but I'm working seven days and didn't have the chance to catass this game like I want to.  I'll make it.

NiGHTS HD (PS3) - I got this one mostly to support Sega's decision to bring this game out.  They didn't have to and by all accounts shouldn't but this is a decent game.  Giant Bomb ragged on this game a bit but Giant Bomb has been putting out a lot of very questionable opinions recently.  I resubscribed to their podcast and I might take them off if they keep biffing it like they have been.  Go get it, it is only $10.

Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) - I stopped playing the 3DS once Borderlands 2 came out.  A good game but you pretty much need the Tanooki Suit at all times.  I'm not sure why they bother handing out any other type of item.  Getting all three coins at this point requires this suit it seems like.  It's a good game, I just need to beat it.

Tokyo Jungle (PS3) - Noodled around this one for a few minutes.  Looks like some decent fun but I need to find the time to play it.

Jeff has always had quirky opinions but that's what I like about Giant Bomb.

To be honest I think its more weird for people to demand that other people's opinions reflect their own opinions.

And while I won't speak to Nights since I've never played it, I know exactly what he was talking about when referencing the over-done nostalgia sega love that some gamers have.

Nothing wrong with people having their own opinions. But Giantbomb recently has been putting out questionable opinions on authority of games they've barely given a shot. The Jet Set Radio quick look being a fantastic example.

Oh hey, here's the easiest level in the game.

Let's play it like monkeys.

"This hasn't aged well."

No, you suck, you pissant. Thanks for making the game look bad.

To be fair these are all Jeff things. Patrick and Brad were jumping to the defense of RE4, and Ryan was kinda like "I don't know man, this is pretty fun" during the Double Dragon Neon quick look.

This.

There are 5 dudes on staff. They all have different opinions on games. There is no universal Giant Bomb says this so I need to feel upset about something because the odds are not everybody on staff agrees with that opinion.

I don't agree with plenty of you people on games. It doesn't make me wrong or make you wrong. It's an opinion on a videogame. Nothing to get overly worked up about.

There are specific reviewers or reviews I don't tend to like but that's generally because its the work of one person speaking for an entire site. I've always felt Giant Bomb is the exact opposite of that philosophy.

What drew me to GiantBomb in the first place was how much the review staff put themselves out there, to give you a clear idea of where their biases are and what kind of experience they're after.

My brother is a big fan of Giantbomb, I mentioned to him I never bothered with it b/c I heard they are biased against Japanese games, but then he's like "you'd like Vinny, he's a guido  from the Island and he has similar tastes!" and I'm just thinking "oh geez".

No, none of them really share the same opinions as I do. But I like GiantBomb because they are humorous and don't take themselves too seriously.  I don't actually read GiantBomb reviews and only pay attention to their videos and podcast. Though, thanks to Patrick their articles have been pretty decent. He seems to be the most open one there. Plus outside of some of 1up's people, I doubt I could stand the typical person who fits into the "I like Japanese games" audience.
