the thing that really sucks is those lips that require movement with both analog sticks but since i'm playing it on a wii with the wiimote+nunchuck combo it's one analogue stick and one digital pad and they are horrible to pull off with such a configuration

Kirby Epic Yarn

no kidding that this game is for babies  :S

I got used to saying easy games are for babies because of all the assists, like Metroid Other M or Prince of Persia 2008 platforming...but this really is for young children.  It should have been rated eC.  I don't know if it's bad or not for that audience.  I'm sure this would be a gas to play right after dora the explora and some gerbers.  Playing this now I just feel my consciousness slipping.

but hey, at least there is no regular waggling.  It's also charming in an ambien way.

I've had Stuntman Ignition for around 2 years, so I figured it's about time I start playing it. The game is surprisingly awesome. Stringing together an entire scene of stunts is really satisfying and it's fairly challenging too. I played through the second movie (Whooping and Hollerin 2 or something) and 5 star'd all the scenes in there. I figure I can try to complete one movie per day. Doing an entire scene and keeping your multiplier throughout while racking up points kinda reminds of doing a run in the Tony Hawk games, back when they were good.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is arcade racing heaven. I got gold on all the campaign cop events last night and I'm halfway through the racer events. I'm pretty sure I can 1000 this in about a week.

Isn't ferrariman supposed to be the racer dude on this board? He's no competition at all right now. :smug

I'm gonna take my dog to the vet tomorrow to have her euthanized since she's suffering from pulmonary edema and multiple cancerous growths (etc).

That dog has accompanied me through half of my life, so I won't be doing much sleeping tonight. Here's my battle plan:

Dog on lap or next to me on couch for last-night skinship and continuous doggie treat access. Videogames to keep me awake from thinking. Almdudler to fill my water reservoirs for the manly tears I'll be shedding soon. And Pizza and chinese takeout, which will probably be shared 50/50 with the four-legged candidate on death row.

Getting my 360 online again for Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network DLC stuff. EAs servers were down for half an hour or so, then oddly enough the DLC I added crawls in at abysmal speeds. Is there something going on? Bah, whatever, I'm a dirty poor Silver peasant anyway, and it's XBox Live Germany, so I'm not expecting anything.

I'll wait for the download to finish and give the cable back to the PS3, for dicking around in Borderlands Multiplayer.

Bought Broken Sword (Directors Cut) on Impulse to keep me busy while the 360 downloads stuff.

Tonight, I game until my fingers break.

I didn't know where else to put it but here are two Gamefly $5 off coupons:

GFRCXWPCG6NXNHW2 (expires March 2011)

Maybe they're tied to accounts but its worth a try.

Yeah, maybe I'm mistaken.  It's been about 8 years since I played it.  Each run is only like 3-5 hours iirc.  The point of the game is you can replay it a few times and do different things if you want.

this guy here dies at the final boss, time it takes him to reach him? a little less than a hour and half (or heck you might even say a little more than an hour...)

and i do get that the game is about the replay but since the whole plot is so short and the choice aren't that many and ultimately do not change the plot that much (they all end in "SUDDENLY GOVERNMENT then you murder the evil captain of the governor army but......") it feels like it falls short of it's premise

Well in WotS3 at least, the endings can vary pretty greatly from what I've seen, having beaten it 4 or 5 times. The part that I don't like about it is how you have to replay the same few missions over and over in order to get to the next part of the story that can branch into something else. That can get pretty tiresome.

The last couple of levels of the light world in super meat boy were pretty crazy.  The last real level "Omega" took me an hour and like 200 hundred deaths.  The final boss took 30 mins but that was because it took me a while to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing for one of the jumps.  The end part only took like 3-4 mins but doing the entire last world in 1 sitting was crazy intense.  Catching up on dark world levels now.

I still say SMB is harder than Trials HD, but I guess some people are better at one type of platforming than the other.  SMB is soooo not for my set of reflex skills.  I'm much more suited to Trials because it reminds me of monkey ball.

Inferno 2 in trials hd is probably harder to beat than any level in SMB. As a whole I'd say SMB is the harder game to beat, but Trials is way harder if you are trying to 0 fault every stage.

On a side note, fuck Culdcept Saga.

>play a stage for 1 hour
>lose because you landed on a high value property 45 minutes in
>get a whopping 4 cards at the end of the game
>do it again

I doubt I'll ever 1000 it. Shit I've had it since it came out and I still haven't beat the story. I always ragequit for months whenever I play a long-ass game and get screwed at the end.

But if I ever do grind out the single player achievements, I'll boost the online ones fo sho.

I got Culdcept Saga at launch and I stopped playing it because I got tired of getting screwed over after wasting so much time on one match. Good game, but winning relies too much on chance.

Inferno 2 in trials hd is probably harder to beat than any level in SMB. As a whole I'd say SMB is the harder game to beat, but Trials is way harder if you are trying to 0 fault every stage.
You can get 200/200 without doing this?

There's the marathon achievement where you have to 0 fault each stage in the tournament (in a row), but other than that I don't think it matters. I just meant that 0 faulting every track is like the ultimate completion for it, and that's insanely difficult.

Work got a Kinect for the shared area xbox. I played some Kinect Adventures! during lunch. It's definitely something that would make a party more fun; it's weirdly magical, the way that the Avatar mirrors my own actions. I worked up a sweat jumping around in the break area. When I wiped the sweat off my forehead, my Avatar did too. That surprised me. In cutscenes where my Avatar is waiting for a prize to be delivered, however I move, it does, too. I got impatient waiting for a score at one point; when it showed it again, it was in a weird pose -- I had unconsciously crossed my arms, and the Avatar was giving a near approximation like I was hugging myself.

...I wasn't hugging myself, honest. It was a natural, defensive, pouty, arms-crossed pose. Technology! Pfeh!

The device requires space. This is a problem in Japan. Hell, just being an xbox accessory in Japan is a problem in Japan. But lack of space is really going to hurt their uptake. It wants 1.8~3.0 meters for a single player. Closer to the 3.0 m for two players. We were barely able to scrape up 1.8 m. of free space by pushing tables further away from the TV in the break area. Several times, the Kinect warned me that I was too close. Because of the conic nature of its pickup area, I was also able to go out of bounds without getting too close.

Even so, the general "interface" of using the Kinect worked quite well in medium lighting conditions and limited space. I didn't feel stress at the full body movement, and there are a number of interesting user experience cues which seem fairly consistent: When you can interact, it ghosts the Avatar on the screen, prompting movement. During gameplay, if the player moves closer to the Kinect/screen, the game's camera also pulls in somewhat tighter, giving a quick and intuitive reinforcement of movement (which supersedes noticing the Avatar's legs aren't really synchronizing super-impressively).

I'll probably pick up a Kinect and Dance Central next time I'm in the USA. If there's a sequel to You're In The Movies with Kinect, I'll buy it. But much like the original, I'll probably be the only one. :^(

I've had Stuntman Ignition for around 2 years, so I figured it's about time I start playing it. The game is surprisingly awesome. I gave that game a decent run a ways back. It's a good game. I wasn't entirely in the mood for a DIAS experience that particular week, so I played through several movies, did some contract work, and turned in my stuntman license. It's too bad it ended up folding that company.

Finished up the new DLC achievements in Trials HD for the 300/300. Those achievements are NOT easy. The one for completing all of the new tracks isn't so bad, but you have to complete the three new extreme tracks so that can  be fairly tough. I nearly failed the final one, but I finished with 4 seconds left on the clock (out of the 30 minute time limit). The achievement for 0 faulting a hard track with that little monkey bike is what really pissed me off though. You get so used to playing the game with the regular bikes, but now they want you to use this joke bike and beat a fairly tough track with 0 faults. Fucking hell.

I gave that game a decent run a ways back. It's a good game. I wasn't entirely in the mood for a DIAS experience that particular week, so I played through several movies, did some contract work, and turned in my stuntman license. It's too bad it ended up folding that company.

:heart now I have a label for my favorite type of game.

Played through another movie in Stuntman today. The game is so awesome. It took me a little while to realize there's a few easy ways to help you retain your combo meter in between each stunt, like driving close to objects on the side of the road or quickly doing a drift if your chain is about to break. Makes it way less frustrating to 5 star each scene. Really fun game though.

Yeah, I like Shamus' writings, but his opinion isn't always the most common case.

I will say that there are some annoying missions in GTA series, and seeing the scripted stuff happen a bunch does feel like the game designer is stabbing me in the butt. My favorite missions in GTA were the R3 ones for Vigilante, Firefighter, and Ambulance. Those were definitely about trying to get to level 12 over and over again. So many times I'd be at level 10 or 11, and my vehicle was just trashed; the suspense from trying not to hit anything and working under the clock was great.

Stuntman is really straightforward about being what it is, a highly scripted sequence which entails doing the mission over and over again until you've hit it optimally. It wasn't surprising, it just wasn't what I wanted.

Had enough of King's Field and started playing Tales of the Abyss, game is pretty cool so far nice graphics and the classic Tales battle system with some improvements. Also the only version of P3 that I found is an undubed one meaning that someone hacked the iso of the american version and added the voices of the japannese one which mean that the cutscenes don't have fucking subtitles smh, gonna have to play the game with a translation guide for the cutscenes like some dirty japanophile, the life of a pirate is a hard one :'(

i don't really have a qualification to talk about planescape torment (you see i have an allergy to game that lacks color such as green or blue) but vagrant story is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over-rated,expect to deal 1 point of damage to every boss you meet after the first 2,luckily there are attack that ignore defense, elemental resistance, type resistance and all that shits that you can cheese to make your life easier

anyway i finaly got the best ending of way of the samurai,my sword has become uber giving me like double the life and making me only take half the damage which makes the game a loooooooooooooooot easier,i think i'll try to get the other endings at this point and then i'll jump over to way of the samurai 2

Played some Metro 2033, seems good so far. Turning on Russian voices really adds to the mood, I think.

Also started The Dig. Man these old school adventure games have some great writing. Also digging the music, game's very cinematic.

Playing through Mass Erect 2.  The lore in this game is incredible.  I don't think I've ever played a game that felt so complete in its realization of its world and characters.  The combat, however, I've been finding pretty annoying thus far; I think Vanguard must only become halfway interesting once you unlock the slowdown at the end of the Charge, which I don't have just yet.  Shockwave is nice, though.  Once I can start rockin' shit without relying so much on the rudimentary cover system, I'll probably start enjoying it more.

Shaun White Skateboarding is... not a good game. How hard is it to just make it like TONY HAWK

Instead its like, distinguished mentally-challenged fellow

Vanguard is for losers. Pick infiltrator thanks.

Infiltrator sounded alright, but I figured playing sniper in a rather simplistic duck & cover shooter would be pretty boring.  Adept was my next choice.

I played through it as a vanguard and watched my cousin play through as an adept. Adept was a downgrade.

The biotics aren't cool enough to justify playing a class in that focus, I think.

edit: Sentinel sounds awesome.  I think I overlooked that one because I thought it was just a more defense-heavy Soldier variant.

I played as vanguard first and thought it was cool because of that boost attack.  Second time I played as sentinel and beasted through the game even though it was on hard (compared to the vanguard normal run).

When I eventually replay it for Mass Effect 3, I think I have to play as vanguard again  :'(

Infiltrator is the best class for Insane because of disruptor ammo and incinerate.  The incinerate attack does a lot of damage to armor and health and it's really easy to arc it over cover making you less exposed to enemy fire.  For the teammate special ability that you can learn, I think Jack's warp ammo is the most useful because the hardest enemies in the game are the collectors and that's mainly because of their barriers/armor.  Squad warp ammo and heavy incinerate were probably the most useful abilities on insane.

.
I really loved Fable 2 though.  The combat was a bit simple compared to most RPG's but that's the only real complaint I can think of.

Played Demon's Souls far too much in the last few days. Not too far off finishing my first run through (started on Sunday). Making a spellsword Royal (currently using a crescent katana and dragon long sword + warding as my support spell) I know Royal is meant to be a relatively easy class to begin with but so far I'm having no problem with this game and people always seem really happy to give you a hand. It's kinda weird that Namco Bandai is publishing the next game since Atlus did the hard yards bringing it to the west and making it popular...

been playing Naruto UNS2 for maybe 4 or 5 hours. the story mode is okay so far, it's basically just an abridged version of the series.

the online play on the other hand is abysmal, due to the fact that this game has the most fundamentally broken fighting engine i've ever seen. spam block in order to get a substitution jutsu because it takes 0 timing and works in the middle of combos AND on throws, then do a special attack. whoever designed this should be fired and never work on another video game for the rest of his life.

Yep, have fun with that  :D

Just pick Deidara and spam. Alternative choices are Sage Naruto and Kirin Sasuke. I just pick RANDOM RANDOM RANDOM RANDOM and use those chars.

I boosted that shit. I posted a good method on x360a

I've been playing Animal Crossing... uh I mean NieR. Seriously when youre doing the farming, fishing and sidequesting its basically the same game. Looking for item spawn spots and digging stuff up, fishing for certain fish, farming as per a real clock, and "hey I want this item" or "take this thing to my friend". Yeah it's pretty awesome.

Also replaying Phoenix Wright 3 on DS. Sweet game

This is why you don't take shallow party fighters online.

Also why party fighters are a shitty genre and should not exist in the first place.  Make real depth fighting games or don't make them at all.

Online competition is just naturally prone to exploiting the shit out of everything they can.  There's a place for party fighters, and they can work, but I doubt anyone is willing to give them the amount of time and care needed to do it right because the benefit isn't there.

Crapcom should make Power Stone 3 and prove me wrong.

I don't have a problem with licensed fighting games like this, they're just shallow flashy games made for fans of the series. As long as the rock/paper/scissors foundation is there, the games can be okay to play against other people, like some of the DBZ and Bleach games and such. I'm not going into them expecting Virtua Fighter, is my point. The problem with UNS2 is that it kinda has the rock/paper/scissors foundation, but rock beats everything. It's like the most basic design flaw you could ever have in a fighting game, and it's especially baffling considering CC2 has made a ton Naruto games. You'd think they'd have this figured out by now.

I do like the story mode though. They do a pretty good job with all of the story events, and the animation and QTEs for the major fights are amazing. But in the end I think I still prefer the Ubisoft games, because the adventure mode was the main focus of the games and they had actual level design and an open world to explore and such. UNS2 just has you running down corridors like FF13.

Hasn't the replacement jutsu been a problem in all the CC2 Naruto games though?  It always seemed like a free pass.

It amazes me they haven't made Power Stone 3 for XBLA. I don't play fighting games anymore but I would buy that in a heartbeat.
