there were some dark days in the war. RROD was the enemies most powerful weapon of trolling on the internet. It dealt us a mighty blow but we had discovered a powerful countermeasure - we called it "actually having games"

Man, sounds like you really lost the ME2 glitch roulette, I don't think I've heard of anyone having even half of those problems before, much less all those at once. Good grief, man.

I had some weird ones on 360 too. Clipping through walls, walking on air. I got badly stuck at one point and had to restart from a prior save. Still a god-tier game though.

That's the Move functionality patch, right? I hate that it's mandatory.

Yup.  Me too.  It should either automatically detect if I have Move (an option or something, drivers maybe) or just make it optional.

I'd take a break.  ACB is 23 more hours of doing the exact same thing except with almost no story and all sidequests.  You'll probably get burnt out quicker if you go straight to it.

And yeah, AC2 is great.  Especially that end part in Rome.

Oh man was it fantastic. I can't believe I avoided all the "pope is evil" spoilers up until now. The big reveal after that was great!

So no story per se in Brotherhood? That's a bummer.

Ok, I've got the following waiting to be played:
Enslaved
Castlevania
Red Dead Redemption
Front Mission Evolved

Just remember that I'll probably drop whatever I start come Saturday when Gundam Musou 3 shows up.

Brotherhood has a story but it's like a filler arc in an anime.  Very light on plot and the main story doesn't really advance at all.  It's more of a pure gameplay game.  The sidequests tend to be fun, so it's still good times but to me it felt like a DLC pack of new non-story missions rather than a sequel or something.  The combat is a lot better too.

I'd play Enslaved since it's supposed to be short.  I hear CV is long and reaaaally wears you out.  Probably wouldn't finish it by GM3.  Red Dead is supposed to be great but lengthy and FME...I dunno, Enslaved is still probably better than that :P

I'm going to finish up Kane & Lynch 2, Blur, and Criminal Girls in the next day or two and then start playing Ni no kuni until Gundam Musou 3 arrives.  Then just GM3 with Ni no kuni when I'm portable gaming for a while.

Did anyone play Dead Nation?  I want some real talk on if it's a good game or not.  I thought Super Stardust HD was a pretty solid title and I like the idea of a top-down Left 4 Dead.  But $15 and no demo.  Sometimes I really hate PSN :(

How fun though?  $15 is kind of pricey for XBLA/PSN games so I don't like to buy them unless they are top quality stuff like Super Meat Boy or Lara Croft or Limbo or Joe Danger, etc...

Can anyone who beat Black Ops tell what they thought was the hardest levels?

I just finished Executive Order, and the last tunnels gave me horrendous COD4 flashbacks... that one level, you know the one.

What is with the delayed grenades? They take like 5 seconds to explode. I'm like oh I think it blew up... boom

Executive Order was the hardest.

The part with the barrels was pissing me off too, but it's easy once you realize you have to stick the knife in a barrel and kick it down the hill. Too bad the game never tells you that. Other than those parts, nothing was particularly hard IIRC.

I finally hit level 30 in Goldeneye.  I've spent 47 hours of multiplayer to get to this point and I'm not even halfway done.  :-\

I'll be happy when I can get the machine gun pistol and the thermal scope though, so around 38. After that point I'll just choose not to care.

Finished Kane & Lynch 2.  Took me about 3.5 hours, so an hour shorter than the first game.

I thought it was good and would have been great 2p if you aren't price/length conscious.  For what it is, it's an exciting pure cover shooter with some great setpieces to fight through, an amazing visual style (easily some of the best visuals I've seen at times; looked so real and stylish), and the gunplay is actually kind of unique in that it's bad and inaccurate but then it feels realistic because of that and it makes it more intense when you're spooked and just spraying bullets everywhere.  Story was ok, length was fine but plot was kind of typical.  Because it stayed as a straight up "take cover, shoot guys, run forward" game from start to finish it never really fell apart like the first one.  I thought it was fairly consistent and enjoyable from the first stage to the last one.  Extra points for the insane nudity stage.

My only complaints are in 1p the AI doesn't do shit.  They stay alive but that's about it.  In split path flanking opportunities you need to let them be the decoy and go ahead and flank since they won't do anything useful on their own.  And in the few time sensitive situations it's annoying not to have another real shooter helping you out.  My other complaint is that the AI is too smart which makes it less fun to fight.  They hide because EVERYTHING and only pop out when you're not aiming at them.  Then you pop out to aim at them and they immediately retreat back behind cover before you can aim and shoot them.  I did a lot of diversion fire where I'd run at the cover shooting so they wouldn't pop out and then just walk up to the guy and pop him.  Much harder when a ton of guys though >_<

Still for $5 it was a nice ride.  I think Kane & Lynch is a great franchise for SE as it's a solid pure gears cover shooter with an interesting real world spin on the setting/characters/story.  The thing is, they need to figure out how to sell it because it just can't work at $40-60 entries.  The games are short because they feel like you're playing a hollywood movie which is COOL and a good thing and I don't want them to be longer than 3-5 hour campaigns, but at the same time you can't sell a 3-5 campaign at full or even budget price.  I think the smartest thing to do with the series would be to make the future entries XBLA/PSN games for $10-15.  Shorten the campaigns further and do 2 hour "movies" with challenges and achievements and stuff for replayability like how Lara Croft handles it.  That way if you can split the budget cost of a full K&L retail title into a 3 game trilogy and sell them at $15 each you're making $45 and you're probably going to sell a lot more copies of K&L at $15 than you will at $40/50/60 retail game, so it should come out financially beneficial.  Everyone just waits until a K&L game is $5-10 bucks before buying, so why not sell them at those prices from the start.

Oh and best chopper section ever; at least visually.  Really really cool sequence.

Been playing Strike Witches for the 360 over the last couple days. Very fun game. Lots of neat bullet patterns and enemy placements, fun scoring system, and great customization. You can pick any three of the twelve girls for your team, and since most of them have their own unique ability, you can mix and match them to fit your playstyle. I need to figure out how to score more effectively though, since there are people on the leaderboards with more than double my score, and I'm not sure how they did that. I'm guessing it's a mix of no-miss bonuses, killing everything and collecting all the medals, and some milking. Guess I should head to nico and try to find out what I'm missing here. Great game though, I'm glad I bought it.

Also been playing a couple Marvel games. First up, I'm playing through Marvel: Ultimate Alliance again with a friend of mine. It's been 3 years since I last played the game, and it's still just as fun as I remember it. Definitely one of my favorite Gauntlet-style games, so this time around I'm gonna clean up the rest of the achievements and get the 1250/1250. And secondly, I got Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet (or whatever it's called) from Gamefly today. I watched some youtube videos of it before it arrived, and I was considering sending it back immediately because it looked abysmal, but it's actually pretty decent. It plays like the Lego games, and the story/writing seems like it's straight out of cartoon you'd watch before going to school in the morning, so yes it's a kid's game. I'm liking it well enough so far.

I played some Motorstorm PR and Disgaea 3 as well, but I don't know how much I'll bother with them. Motorstorm is decent, but the handling is really stiff for an arcade racer. There's some nice variety in tracks though, and at first glance it seems like it's about 300x better than Motorstorm 1, so I'll give them that. The highlight of my session was exploding my engine, causing my car to fly past the guy ahead of me right at the finish line, getting me 1st place. That was definitely a 'fuck yeah!' moment.

I only played through the first chapter in Disgaea 3. It's fun so far, and I'd like to play through it, but I dunno if I have room for a 40 hour RPG right now. So many damn games to play.

a friend of mine wanted me to try this casual game know as farm frenzy 2 and ehy it's actualy kind of fun...

i know,i know the video makes it looks like the most boring shit ever but bear with me for a while... basicaly it works like this, each level has an objective like "pick 20 eggs" or "have 5 pigs" and a time limit... you buy stock who produce farm stuff (chicken produce eggs, pigs produce meat chops and cow produce milks) you can then turn the farm stuff into more complicated farm stuff (so for example eggs can be turned into powder which can then turned into breads which can then be turned into a cake if you buy flour) but this takes time and depending on the level building (or upgrading to bring production to required speed) the appropriate factory cost money, you also can't sell or buy stuff as soon as you want, instead you send your camion with stuff you want to sell and it returns with money after a while, the camion also can't take all your stuff and instead can only sell stuff up to a certain amount, you also can only keep certain quantities of item so you constantly need to sell so you don't clog up your storage and all of this while keeping below the time limit

so in short there is a lot of microstrategy involved, you can give it a spin for free here
http://www.myplaycity.com/en/farm_frenzy_2/
apparently there is also an iphone version tough i don't know much about it...

oh also if you click multiple times on a factory it produces faster, they should totaly add this feature to starcraft 2,imagine all the koreans, their index finger bigger than their hands!

Still finishing up Viking, believe it or not. Told myself at midnight last night that I'd just clear the one dungeon that had been giving me problems. Then I did another, and another, and ended up at the last boss. At 2 a.m. I was not the most rational player, so I ended up re-doing the stage 6 or 7 times before realizing that the adrenaline was going to keep me from sleeping -and- fatigue was going to keep me winning. The former condition might change, but the latter wouldn't, so I called it a night. Morning. Whatever.

This morning I woke up and almost immediately realized which move I needed that I'd not been using. So I guess you could say I've been engaged with the game. I wasn't too thrilled with it last night though.

I tried playing some Yakuza 3 yesterday. I thought the "3" in the title would mean it'd be loosely connected to 1&2, nothing an intro-length movie couldn't fix.

Instead I am treated to 500 hours of unscaled 320x240 video with voiceover that explain the intricacies of who killed whom and why and what the hell that brat is following me around for. WHO ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE. WHY SHOULD I CARE. :S

I bought the kid ice cream and some energy drink, then turned the game off to rampage around in Nobi Nobi boy. Made him longer than 1km and watched him wreak havoc simply by spawning. :poop

Viking's done. The last sequence ended up giving me a little better appreciation for the fighting system than I'd had to develop over most of the game. The last fight sequence ended up being satisfying. The final boss, not so much: I'm not a fan of QTEs.

There are some camera management requirements in the march up the final tower and the end. In many instances the camera doesn't know what to do with itself.  Essentially, the indoor third person camera, with cheap fire barriers bounding three of four sides in the final battle means situational awareness is key. Dodging has not had consequences at any other point in the game. Suddenly the player can dodge backward into flame... which was off camera when the control was input.

Overall, it's a fun game it isn't something I'm likely to play again at any point, and the "open world" stuff is iffy. It could have easily been a sequence of simpler missions with no unified world for easy wandering around. The wandering is limited to a few simple paths between major areas. I didn't feel like I was ever exploring. The fighting was fun, it was less glitchy than THQ's Conan action game, and the last boss was at least manageable. Man, I'm still hating the last Conan boss...

Strike Witches is so fun. Been playing through the game trying to get the achievement for no-missing everything, but I keep messing up in one place or another. Kinda frustrating, but I'm also playing around with the different teams and seeing who I like best and such. There's a few things I don't like about it (namely the graphics and one crappy boss), but this is definitely one of the most underrated games this year. I just wish the leaderboard had downloadable replays. That should be standard for any shooter these days.

I also like how the the game's opening and ending play out like an anime OP and ED... I think it even uses the songs from the anime. Nice touch.

The artifact one wasn't so bad if you're like me and you naturally just check every possible cranny and nook before leaving an area.  The sequel however was the stuff of nightmares.  Echoes had like, keys to get into boss rooms, multiple keys.  Then you get near the end of the game and there's even MORE keys, obscurely hidden keys at that. That's in addition to having your 'luminoth lanquage' something or other updated so you can unlock doors which means its a VOICE key.

When I got to that part in Prime I literally stopped dead in my tracks. Killed a lot of momentum. Good to finally be done with the game. Time to load up Echoes. Looking forward to what kind of things it has to off...

I started Echoes, stopped after like 2 hours, and got distracted by other games. Sounds like I wouldn't have liked it at all.

It was pretty good [although the Dark World wore a bit as the game went on] up until that part near the end. It was just so painfully horrible. Even using GameFAQs it was super-annoying have to trudge back through the whole game AGAIN looking for useless tokens.

It took me six or seven years to finally finish Deus Ex Invisible War.  I tried to play it on both the PC and Xbox but I wouldn't take it.  The way I did it was by listening to podcasts to trick me into thinking I wasn't completely bored.

same here

It came out around GTA San Andreas, Halo 2, and MGS3.  I wasn't feeling it when I started and it has three games I was much more excited near it.

I got the Wii Metroid Trilogy with the intention of giving it another shot.  I liked the first one and third one, so I can't image I'd outright hate the second one.

Played a bunch of shmups since I didn't get my Musou to go trans-am on dudes all night.

Shoot 1UP = I had written this off originally because the screens were really really ugly art.  But it's actually a pretty decent little shmup.  The gimmick of having multiple ships you need to take care of and the risk/reward of the more your separate your ships, the stronger you become is a solid system.  Branching paths too.  And then the score attack mode where you only have 1 ship and the game continually increases difficulty is very Cave-ish.  Was enjoyable enough for $1.

Decimation X3 = I actually like this even better than Score Rush by the same indie dev.  Score Rush is a pretty cool shmup with great controls and good bullet patterns but I prefer the stage driven gameplay of this over just sitting as more as bigger and bigger blobs appear.  Plus graphically I find Decimation more impressive.  Decimation X3 reminds me of Space Invaders Extreme, except SIE was turning Space Invaders into a minor shmup and Decimation is turning it into a full on Cave bullet hell insane shmup.  Very fun.

And then I spent a few hours finally digging into Guwange.  X360 mode is AWESOME even though it makes it kind of super easy.  But the controls feel so much more natural and it really makes it a better game imo.  I don't get what "Blue" arrange is.  I tried it after doing a run on Arcade and it seem exactly the same??  Still, great port.  You get just as much content as a $70 cave game with this $10 XBLA title (arrange modes, achievements, leaderboards, replays); total steal.

Also gave Arrange A a few more tries on Daifukkatsu because Iconoclast loves it so much.  I still don't get that mode at all.  Just seems like normal Daifukkatsu except way harder and less satisfying.  Will stick to 1.5 & arrange B.

I'm also playing Ni no Kuni and it's a typical L5 game, meaning if it didn't have ghibli it'd suck.  But it does have ghibli so the art/music is zomggg and the story is enjoyable.  But L5 has to make the most uninteresting rpg gameplay in the world.  I can't think of another rpg dev that I dislike as much as L5.  The dungeon design is super boring (like all their rpgs), the encounter rate is insane (but they are all visible so you're running past everything), and every town has dozens of quests which are just busywork of running back and forth across the 3-5 town screens over and over (zzz).  Battle system is ok, but very very plain; I just auto-battle everything non-boss and read threads.  The book is a postive and a negative.  The game requires A LOT OF WORK.  You seriously have to refer to the book every 10 mins or so of gameplay.  Either to find a spell or to answer questions about a painting on page 76 or use the translation guide to translate a made up rpg language to Japanese to solve a quest.  I think duckroll put it best when he told me "if I was 12 this would be the best game ever", but at adult age when you are playing a handheld rpg you just want to sit back and play it and not have to do all kinds of work to proceed.

I am enjoying the game for the ghibli-side but the gameplay is very, very 7/10.  If only L5 could hire some good rpg designers one of these days.

Arrange A is awesome, but you have to play it differently from the regular game. If you're in normal mode when you're using your hyper, your C-shot won't clear any bullets on screen. Instead, when your shot passes through the bullets, it raises your chain meter insanely fast. When you're in boost mode with a hyper, your C-shot clears bullets like normal, but your hyper meter depletes a lot faster. So the idea is to get as many bullets on screen as you can, milk them with normal mode C-shot, and then once you're backed into a corner, switch over to boost for a second and clear a path. And to score well, you have to collect the bees. They give an absolutely ridiculous amount of points. If your chain is high enough, you can get both extends on the first stage if you collect all of them.

But if you already knew all that and you still don't like it, then yeah just stick with the other modes.

Do you usually wait until you have 5 hypers before using a hyper?  Or do you use one everytime you get a new one?  I felt like I wasn't going into hyper mode anywhere near as much as the other modes.

And do you know what blue arrange changes in Guwange XBLA?

I don't necessarily wait until I have 5 hypers, I just hold them until I'm at a certain point in each stage that will let me score high. Like on stage 1, I'll use the hyper on the ura mid boss since you can get like 20,000 hits off of him. I don't think you'll get hypers as often as you would in power style in 1.5, but the hypers in Arrange A last a lot longer if you're in normal mode. Boost mode chews right through your meter really quicky from what I can tell.

I'm not sure what the exact differences are for Blue mode, but I do that they made chaining a little easier and they fixed boss milking. You can also turn bullets that flash purple+blue into gold by killing any enemy with your shikigami. Beyond that, I dunno.

I spent most of time in Guwange playing 360 mode. It's super easy, but it's still pretty damn fun. Kinda like Strike Witches. :D

(basicaly pick one of the girl and add infinite amounts of blushing and "you look beatifull!")
[close]
but this leads to 2 interessing leads....

1. this completly hilarious video

2. there seems to be a sakura wars v prequel about gemini going trough the grand canyon and i can't help but think i got stuck with the lame game instead of the cool one

i know the video makes it looks terrible but still WEIRD WESTERN ANIMU GAME as opposed to the :uguu game.... tough to be fair the whole reason i can't stop paying attention to this game is that while i find it dull for the most part,it has it's moment like this

30 hours into Yakuza 3 by now (lazy weekend), and I'm having fun.

Up to the point where I've kicked the bald Yakuza boss around. Now dragging my gay homie through town to get him a tattoo and hopefully off my ass. There's a limit to puppy love, but that guy is leaps and bounds beyond it.

The resolution and textures are so bad they make my eyes bleed (GLORIOUS HD GAMING), the main guy and all the one night stands I've encountered so far have all had ample contact with the ugly stick, and running away/catching others is just a major pain in the ass, but the rest of the game is quite awesome.

Kind of feels like Saints Row 2 translated to Asia. Oldschool GTA full of minigames and a nice mix of serious business and hilarity. I can dig.

Should've played this way earlier. It's just that the intro is so horribad if you don't have a clue about the background story. Took me three tries to really get what this game was all about. So much wasted time.  :-\

I need to play 3 and 4 before ZOMBIE YAKUZA comes out.  That's going to be hilariously awesome.
