How the fuck do I fight Jeanne on chapter 2? Beating her is easy but not going for perfection. If she gets you in a combo it's tough as hell getting out and to make matters worse her character never reacts to the damage at all.

Witch time is the answer to everything on normal and hard. It's the "I win button" in the game.

Civ 5 is pissing me off.  The game crashes constantly.  I didn't even realize that was an issue until after I bought it but now that it's happening I've been going to their support forums and it looks like it's a pandemic.  It's gotten so bad that I've had to turn on the autosave to every turn.  Very, very buggy.

I think I may just scratch off Civ 5 and go back to Civ 4.

What is dodge offset and even when activating witch mode you can't go into in this fight. Bayo just slows down time but no WT happens.

a dodge offset allows you continue a combo after you dodge. you just have to hold the button you hit prior to dodging in order to maintain the combo. so one quick example of a dodge offset would be: P,  K(hold), dodge, P. it's kinda hard to explain but that should make sense.

but anyway, on normal, quick weave attacks like PKP and back+forward P or K work well against Jeanne on chapter 2. she doesn't really dodge anything on those difficulties, so you can destroy her in just a few seconds if you hit her with weave after weave.

I've played it on 2 different computers with the same result.  My Windows 7 desktop is an i7-950 with 8 gigs of DDR3 and a NVIDIA GTX465 w 1gig of RAM - this computer is pretty new. I turned everything up to high and am playing it at 1920 X 1200 because my monitor is 29" and plus that computer should be able to handle it.  I've updated my drivers but there's still something funky going on here and I can't figure out what going on.

The laptop I tried it on was only a dual core t4500 on Windows Vista 64 with 4 gigs of DDR2 and a NVIDIA 9800M with 1 gig of RAM. I can bump it down to Direct X 9 and the game seems more stable but I've still ran into a couple of lock-ups.

Been playing gow3 the game is pretty fun and the graphics are amazing and the boss fights are awesome(especially the Hercules fight) but I'm really dissapointed by the fact that the gameplay is exactly the same as the other two games they didn't even add new moves to the blades smh. Since this is the last one of the trilogy or whatever I hope that the next game reboots the gameplay.

is there a feature in Bayonetta similar to the lock on from DMC? Like in DMC you would do different moves if you locked on to a specific target as apposed to just doing moves freely.

Yes. Lock on is R1/RB. Some moves are much easier to do while locked on such as knocking enemies up in the air (Back + kick). Whereas it takes, forward -> forward -> kick to do the heelslide without lock on, WITH lock on it's a simple forward -> kick.

the one that takes place at the airport(i think?) where you eventually attack the red bulbs on his body was terrible. like, whats fun about it? these games are at their best when you're fighting enemies at your level. like in DMC4. the best part of the entire game was the boss battle against Credo. fantastic back and forth action against an enemy that fights as hard as you do. the worst? the end boss battle. fuckin' awful. guess it's just a matter of taste here because. do you guys just really enjoy seeing the huge EPICNESS of it? because that's the only thing i got out of it.

That's like 2-3 encounters for a total of 15 mins in DMC4. You fight Jeanne much more often and the fights are much better, at least on hard. I can't really remember normal.

Anyway the big boss fights are still fun. I love the nonstop wicked weave attacks and making huge enemies your bitch by hitting their weak points is always good.

just got 5.92 billion in Deathsmiles IIX mode. the achievement is for 6 billion. fffffffuuuuuuuuuu

No More Heroes 360 is bullshit too. Sometimes I can play for 40 minutes straight without any freezing or disc read errors, other times it's almost impossible to start the game. Almost done with the rank 9 boss anyway. If I do play this game to the end, I'll probably have beaten it 6 times by the time I've finished between all the freezing and replaying missions over and over.

Also the graphics in Wrestle Kingdom are way better than I was expecting. Not a bad game either - it's very AKI'ish.

Fistful is right though even in action games like shinobi or god of war the 1 on 1 human sized fights are the best. Big bosses are nice for show, but they end up just being gimmicks with big patterns. Human fights are way more intense. Jeanne fight at the end is awesome and final Vergil fight is still the best five mins of combat ever in a game.

if you want to break it down to it's simplest form then yeah, it's all just patterns. but there are big difference between the huge colossal boss fights and the 1 to 1 fights like Credo, or Virgil, or Agni and Rudra, or Jeanne.

so? fighting the big bosses is nothing because they tend to have their own minions. I just don't see the problem. In DMC4, maybe. NG1? It's fine. In NG2? Surely. But Bayonetta? It's fine. There's nothing wrong with fighting bosses. It all comes down to how they are designed. Simply being big bosses does not negate the possibility of being fun to fight and their size is in no way pertinent. A lot of NG2's boss fights feature giant creatures. Do the boss fights suck because you're fighting giants? No, they suck because they're poorly designed. Because fighting the human bosses in NG doesn't necessarily make human bosses better, because both types of bosses have patterns. It's how the big boss fights are handled.

In comparison, NG1 has big bosses as well, and many of those are actually pretty damn good. The same can be said for Bayo.

and from my experience in the genre, they are all designed mostly identically. dodge large attack..... dodge large attack. boss placed limb close to pedestal i am standing on - attack attack attack.
repeat until boss is dead.

so far every one of these in bayo has been the same. it's boooooooooooooooooooooooring. the most fun that the game delivers is when it puts me in an arena and makes me face a number of enemies on my level. in every instance of this I've enjoyed myself. in every instance of the game making me face some huge colossus I havent had any fun.

edit: to put it in the best perspective I can. stuff like the giant plant lady boss from DMC4 are the worse kind of bosses in the genre. stuff like Credo are the best. that tells you what I like and don't like in the genre.

I like how big boss fights require precise accuracy in dodging projectiles, sometimes multiple at once. Slashing a body part? So? You're slashing up a dude's body if it's a "human" boss. Same thing, right?

Both NG Sigmas suck compared to the OG versions.

Battles against giant enemies tend to be far more pattern-based than battles against normal sized guys. Normal enemies almost always require far more twitch skill because they tend to have a much larger variety of attacks that they can use at any time. Fighting someone with the same moveset as you who can walk around the arena just as fast as you is a lot different from fighting a giant enemy who doesn't move at all. So yes, battles against humans are almost always better. NG2 is a prime example of this: Fiend Genshin is one of the best bosses in action game history. He is absolutely perfectly designed. Alexei is a decent boss, Elizebet is a great boss, and Volf is so-so. Literally every other boss in the game ranges from absolutely fucking horrible to god-awful.

All of the bosses in Bayonetta are at least good though. Jeanne is probably the best one. Pure Platinum'ing one of the later fights against her on Infinite Climax is one of the most satisfying things in any action game.

NGS2 faults:
Removed weapons (windmill shuirken, incendiary shuriken, water harpoon)
Babby easy
Being forced to play as three useless women in poorly designed stages (although the boss fights are decent)
Scoring system is *still* garbage
No survival mode

But it's mostly the babby easy thing that kills it. NG2 will fucking stomp your balls into dust. NGS2 is almost as easy as combo games like Bayonetta and DMC4. Stages in NGS2 are ghost towns compared to the armies of vicious enemies you'd have go through in the original game. It's just not nearly as fun.

They fixed a lot of the shitty things in NG2, but at the same time, they "fixed" a lot of stuff that wasn't broken to begin with and fucked up the game in the process.

changed a bit so I can truly say I agree with it.  I wasn't a big fan of NG2, but the Genshin fights were a blast.  Fights against him and that one stage where you're running on a river are my favorite parts about that game.

In general I think battles against comparatively sized enemies are always more entertaining than large ones.  It's even better when you fight enemies with similar moves, like Devil Hand.  At that point your besting an enemy based on skill alone because you're basically equally matched.  One of the few exceptions I can think of is God of War.  That combat system seems more for fighting large enemies or large crowds, so when you get to fighting Zeus or something, it doesn't feel as satisfying.

and yeah, so much about NG2 was just terrible.  I'm remembering things like the underwater one or where you're fighting the dragon with the bow and arrow.  What the fuck? you have this awesome fighting system.  stop spamming explosives and making me use the bow and arrow and just let me fight people.  Or that giant worm thing...what the fuck?

i think i'm nearing the end of Bayonetta so i'll stop talking about it - finish it - then write something up in the main thread. most of my opinions about the game haven't changed much despite people saying it "gets way better as it goes" and such.

I played some Crysis then Crysis Warhead today since I bought them in the Steam daily.
played each for about 40 minutes or so on DELTA. God fucking damn they are brutal. I remember playing on normal long back and tried to implement similar strategies to get by. and failed. finding myself being far more stealthy. i think these games are the closest we've gotten to a true Predator game.
Crytek should totally make a Predator game.

The water dragon is probably my favorite of the monster bosses in NG2 actually. I don't mind fighting him on that little platform and dodging the bullets he shoots and such, plus he has the best Obliteration Technique animation in the game. So awesome.

The worm tunnel is the section of NG2 I hate the most, but not because that boss. There's hundreds of those little crab enemies walking around, and if you are playing for karma.... have fun milking them for 3 hours with 1 hit of the kusari gama. Some of the Tests of Valor on Master Ninja are a nightmare during karma runs too. God what a bad scoring system. All they had to do to fix it was add the timer back in. :-\

They fixed a lot of the shitty things in NG2, but at the same time, they "fixed" a lot of stuff that wasn't broken to begin with and fucked up the game in the process.
