I got both free on PC.  I'm somewhat glad because they helped me level up a lot and hit 50 in one playthrough.

:lol

I beat it on the normal difficulty and never again. I wanted to do the harder difficulties, but multiple rocket spamming ninjas on the first fucking mission is not fun at all. It sucks because the combat is more fun and fluid than the first game, but the game is so fucking cheesy.

Back to Rock Band 2 thanks to the fucking awesome Phoenix DLC tracks. BOC's Godzilla will be fun next week, too.

Still playing Assassin's Creed 2, so much better than the first game.

Fable 2 was a pretty kickass 'sim' like game.  Shame the main focus (RPG, story, combat, everything else) was not so good.  Didn't help that the game made me think my 360 was dying all the time because of how poorly it ran.  Surprisingly that isn't even the worst part.  The worst is the complete lack of accomplishment feeling you get when playing.

I'm slightly enjoying it so far but I'm still fairly early in. We'll see if that feeling continues.

Part of the problem was I think that the first two times I played, I tried to play it like Oblivion, and the game just isn't deep enough to be played that way. This time I'm sticking  mostly to the main path and enjoying myself a bit more. Also so much time has passed that the Molyneaux hype machine effect has dissipated so my expectations are fairly modest.

The game definitely has issues. The combat is weak. (Not the actual mechanics of it but the stupid AI which is utterly broken) but then I just endured a mostly broken combat engine through 15 to 20 hours or so of AC 2 so if I can tolerate it there, I can tolerate it here. The game also has a nice sense of humour about itself. We'll see how I feel a few more hours in.

"Beasting" in SF4 tonight.  I won like seven championship matches in a row.   :o  Nobody was beating me.  Totally crazy night.  Then I did some player matches versus a GAFfer with a mean 'Gief.  Lots of close battles; I need more versus 'Gief practice, so it was really enjoyable.

Oh man :/ I want somebody to play with on PC.

I'm not very good at SF4 and I'm not at all sure how to get any better. At this point, do I just have to sit in training mode and keep trying to get the same damn combos down to near muscle reflex?

I keep playing Arcade and other people and I'm never any better than I was.

You're not gonna get any better without playing people online. Playing with a friend who is better than you is especially helpful because they'll give you tips while you're playing and point out your problems.

Yeah the one friend I have who beats me just mocks me and laughs every time he wins, and he doesn't know much about the game anyways, he's just using an arcade stick and got really good with it.

Browse the huge SF4 thread on GAF; plenty of PC players on there.  Or better yet, go to Shoryuken.com.

Just keep playing online matches.  Training mode helps to get down combos, yes, but it's being able to execute everything during fights and also just learning match-ups that will help you to get better.  Hit up Shoryuken.com and check the forums for the character or characters you use.  There are some very helpful tips on there.

Yes, DEFINITELY this.  My game got way better just because I have been able to play dudes like FindMyFarms on PSN who is way too good at the game.  He always beats my ass, but it's really helped me to pick up on stuff.  I played an awesome Rufus player who also showed me ways to take him out using Chun-Li.

Okay, so who do you use and who does he use?  Definitely hit up SRK for strategies and also be on the lookout for stuff he does and stuff he tends to fuck up on.  You can often bait people into doing one thing and totally punish them for it.  There's a friend of mine who has a huge history of shit-talking; his antics have even gotten him banned from other forums.  He proclaimed himself a better player than DAIGO and said he could take him after watching some EVO videos.   :lol  Of course he wanted to challenge me, and I shut his ass up over three mini "tournaments," with the final outcome being 51-17.  And those 17 losses?  It's from when I didn't use Chun-Li and went with random select or Dan.   8)

Back to play Graces now that I'm done with BBS.  At first it was kind awkward going back because the story pacing is so different (traditional animu v. nomura mindfuck) but the gameplay was easy to get back into real quick and after a few hours I'm back into the story again.  Still a nice game.  Probably will finish it up soon.

The card battle mini-game is awesome in Graces if you are a diehard Tales fan.  They throw a bunch of random cards on the table which have characters from every Tales game.  Then the judge of the match acts out a line from one of the characters and 1p/2p hand icons race to click on the correct card first.  And then the winner says a followup line from the character.  If you click on the wrong character you get stunned for a few seconds before you can move your hand icon again.

So basically if you are diehard Tales fan it's easy because you'll recognize all the lines.  You'll also enjoy it more because it's hilarious hearing the Graces characters doing impressions of other Tales characters.  If you aren't a diehard Tales fan it's basically impossible to play  :lol I'm good for all of them except ToD, so I can get those by process of elimination.

Also tried some PC gaming.  Played some Mass Effect 1 in prep for 2.  Game still holds up really well and looks great.  But I dunno when I'll have a chance to play ME2 so I think I'll hold off on ME1 replay until a week or two before I play ME2.  Played some more Dragon Age, still in the intro as a mage, still don't like it much at all.  Game looks so ugly compared to ME1.  Why the fuck do they lock the cutscenes on the PC version at 30fps and why do you have to hit ESC to skip dialogue and why is the dialogue text at the TOP OF THE SCREEN (wtf, awkward incredible).  The quirks are just all over the place.  Plus the character models are hideos compared to ME and the voice acting seems worse so far.  Dunno if I'll ever really play it through.  Then played a little Bioshock to get ready for Bioshock 2.  Bioshock still holds up pretty well but the graphics are kinda bleh these days.  I wonder if it looks better with DX10 water.  I'm still using XP so I'm stuck with DX9 water for Bio1 and presumably Bio2 >_<

How far in are you?  It turns into a Metroid clone about 90 minutes into the game.

It never really does and holds your hand the whole time.  It's finding the optional tapes/Riddler clue stuff that branches a little off the path.  Still a fun game, just one I don't think I will ever play again.

Definitely hit up SRK for more tips/strategies, but basically I'd be poke-poke-pokin', baiting shoryukens off of him and punishing him for it, and making heavy use of EX attacks.  Remember that Cammy's EX drill goes through fireballs (as does her Ultra) and her EX hooligan will go across the screen-- if he throws a fireball at you, do it immediately and you will hit him every time.

Since there's no L4D2 thread, I'll just ask in here...does anyone get "No games found" when searching for games?  I was on yesterday and I couldn't find any games whatsoever...I tried all sorts of different filters, including 'Any'.  I tried quick game, I tried different modes like versus, and I keep getting that error.  I googled it and it's not an isolated problem, but Valve doesn't seem to care since they've never addressed it.

My NAT is open and I have no problems playing a myriad of other games online.  This blows...L4D2 is so damn fun and the gfx and lighting are much improved over the original.  The gunplay feels so satisfying and the sound effects for the guns is great, but I can't play the damn game.  Once in a while I can join one in progress or a lobby shows up.

TvC Ultimate All-Stars for Wii.

I couldn't check out the online since no one was on, but messing around in training and arcade, the game play feels smoother compared to Cross Generation Of Heroes, the new backgrounds are welcome, and the music they replaced the character themes with sounds oh-so-much better.  Awesome game.  I hear the online play is actually pretty damn good, but it's gonna be sparse until Tuesday.  Going to spend the time practicing up and unlocking the new characters and bonus crap.

EDIT: Got one online match after changing the settings to worldwide.  Pretty damn laggy.  Playable, but laggy. No telling where that guy was at.  After you play a match, you get the option for a rematch and to add that person to your rival list, which is separate from your friends list.

I have actually never used the friends list crap and have no idea where to even register people's codes (my Wii is Japanese).

Heroes of Newerth has a community that would make the dregs of Xbox Live blush.  In a single game I was called a noob taco for getting killed first and saw someone vote kicked because they were taking the same lane as a teammate.  I still find the core gameplay to be better than LoL, but I need to find some people to play with so I can enjoy myself more.  LoL is perfectly fine with strangers.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - The first time in the bat cave so maybe I'm 1/3 of the way through?  This game reminds me a lot of the Batman cartoon I watched when I was little.  Turns out it's the same writer, which I thought was pretty cool.  It also has that gritty raw feeling of The Dark Knight.  I don't really give a fuck about collecting the Riddler shit but I pick up a few trophies here and there.

It's a really loving adaption of the Batman source material with probably some of the best voice acting in a videogame I've ever heard. I'm not generally a fan of comic book games or licensed games but its almost impossible not to respect what they did there.

I'm getting a little impatient with my party in FE:RD. Sothe is getting a majority of the kills(experience), and that's not good since he's already class-changed (thief -> rogue), but the rest of my team, except for Nolan and now Edward, can't kill for shit and I find myself removing them from the action most of the time just to save their hides.

I wish I didn't lose Meg. My crew could use another unclassed tank.

You have to get your timing down better.  If you do the ultra immediately when he throws a fireball (and you are the right screen length away...too far and you won't make it), it will always go through it and hit him.  You can even ultra through other character's ultras when timed right.

If he blocks too much, get used to throwing and focus attacking him like crazy.  The key is to bait the shit out of him and punish him for his mistakes.  Cammy can handle being close up, so don't be afraid to try and rush him down.  If it still feels like nothing is working for you, you may want to consider looking into other characters.

EDIT: Got one online match after changing the settings to worldwide.  Pretty damn laggy.  Playable, but laggy. No telling where that guy was at.  After you play a match, you get the option for a rematch and to add that person to your rival list, which is separate from your friends list.

I have actually never used the friends list crap and have no idea where to even register people's codes (my Wii is Japanese).

it change for each game, yep that's right, that means every game has a different friend code and as such with each different game you have to input different codes

Losing a character = instant game over to me and most FE fans.

You never class-change until you reach Level 20 with your first class. Unless that's what you did of course then nevermind

I just started my Hard run for Infinite Undiscovery. I'm really just wanting to play ME2 but I've been 1000 all my backlog so all I have to play is

- Rock Band
- Halo 3 online
- Gears
- Saints Row 2 (refuse to play without co-op)
- Soul Calibur 4 (sealed)
- Sacred 2 (sealed)
- EDF2017
- various XBLA

So I picked IU, now that all the item lists etc are completed.

Got Zero, he too is quite FUCKING AWESOME.  I love that he has a chargable Mega Buster on top of having his own (Sonic Boom-like) projectile.  I beat the shit out of a guy online just by comboing the hell out of that.

Now it's onto the three Tatsunoko side characters.  Need to clear the game with different characters about 10 more times, I think.

We can try, but I think CA to GA wi-fi is gonna be laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag filled.

Yeah, unfortunately.  Here's the deal: You register a name up to eight characters to long, and that's what you see when you fight others.  There are both friend (must be added via the friend code) and rival (you can request to befriend people you meet in random online matches and they will be added to the list immediately) lists, each only allows for 32 people, although that's probably going to be more than enough for this title.

TvC is actually fun, but its not that technical kind of fun. Playing on a Wiimote is balls, and even just tapping A makes me throw Hadokens when I dont want to. Its that nice MvC2 kind of fun where you just spam the fuck out of things and see the effects. Just pressing 1+2 makes me throw super hadokens and shit with ease. I can appreciate that.

I dunno who's good or anything so I'm just toying with te characters.

I've been playing random old shooters.

-Far Cry 1 makes the AI in Far Cry 2 look good.  Just makes me want to play either Far Cry 2 or Crysis.  More than anything gives me nostalgia for when I first played the demo of this and was blown away; taxed my three or four revisions ago PC hard.

-Red Faction 1 is surprisingly still fun.  Kinda reminds me of a Half Life clone, except with a lot more focus on shooting.  Geomod is still fucking awesome.  Blowing up a wall behind a turret, then jumping on it and blowing everyone else in the room is really cool and confuses me why after all these years I can still count the number of games with this kind of destruction on one hand (half is made up of Red Faction games).  Required a patch to play on PC, but the patch also allows vert- widescreen, which is nice.

-Red Faction 2 is still not fun.  Reminds me of the Resistance 1 to Resistance 2 transition where the first game was a fun clone that had some charming aspect, then the sequel copied the big game of the time (Red Faction 2 and Halo, Resistance 2 and CoD4) and became boring.

Yeah, you can't really play TvC without a classic controller/pro or a joystick.  Using a regular Wiimote puts the game into a beginner mode.  It even does some basic combos automatically for you...perfect for the Wii crowd!

Normally the game is easily as complex as any other Marvel-style Vs. game.  It uses three attack buttons, plus a partner button, and you can do all kinds of crazy-ass combos, plus interupt a combo -in mid air- and have your partner switch in to continue it for more insanity, and if you want to gets nuts, you can activate the baroque system to cancel normally non-cancelable attacks into others like Guilty Gear.  There's even a Guilty Gear/BlazBlue style counter break that's been implemented.  I don't think the game is SF4 deep, but with Ultimate All-Stars fixing a shit-ton of the original version's problems (like getting rid of some sick infinites), the game is really worth playing and makes for a great alternative to Street Fighter.  I'll definitely be playing the shit out of it at least up until SSF4 hits.  I guess Capcom did the best they could, but the online system is still lacking compared to the 360/PS3 set-ups.  Not being able to message people sucks, and friend codes are so dumb.  At least it appears that there's some sort of punishment system in place for frequent rage-quitters.

The Lost Planet overhead Mercs-style shooter you can unlock is decent fun, too, and lets up to four people play together.

Had unfortunate timing with Scenester on Sunday, leading to having to pass on what would have been an epic Saints Row 2 co-op session. I'm still determined to pick up all those co-op 'cheevs, not just because they're tasty, but SR2 is fun.

It's so fun, in fact, that I'm trying to get the remainder of GTA IV DLC out of the way before going back to it. This weekend I played a metric ass-tonne of Ballad of Gay Tony, and am happy with it. Probably post a follow-up in the what-passes-for-official thread, but I finished the main story and really enjoyed the over-the-top style.

Played a bunch of Beatles Rock Band over the weekend; it's one of the few games I can play with my kids in the room and not feel like I'm treading water until I can play a "real game."

Tried to play online.  Took 3 mins to "connect" to a player then had a shitty laggy battle.  Don't think I'll bother with online play since I have a wireless Wii.

Also still don't like the game.  I didn't really notice the camera when playing the JP version, but playing this, something about the way the camera moves up and down spastically makes it hard to follow the action.  And playing on a classic controller the game still feels like I'm struggling against the controls 90% of the time.  Game is probably a decent fighter on a stick, but goddamn the GC or CC suck for fighting games.  Also all the NEW characters added that I'd like to try "frank/zero" require finishing the game multiple times.  I can't even be bothered to finish it once because fighting the cpu is zero fun whatsoever.  So that kinda kills all interest in this "new" version.  Same old game that I never cared for much before.

Pass.

Bebpo, like everyone has a wireless Wii.  This game is not officially out yet...barely anyone is playing it online.  It took forever for me to find matches, too, and they've been of varying quality.  I had to set the search parameter to worldwide to even find any matches at all!  Don't pass judgment on the online until the next few days pass and people in your surrounding area start playing.

Are you super-jumping all day or something?  That's what makes the camera move "spastically," and that's how these games have always been.  There's nothing different about it.

Stick is obviously the most optimal way to play the game, but I'm not having any issues with the classic controller since it only uses four buttons.  Maybe it's just been a while for you and your timing is off or something.

I hate unlocking shit.  HATE IT.  But eh, you have to finish the game with three Capcom characters for Frank, six for Zero, and repeat the same process on the Tatsunoko side for Tekkaman Blade and Joe.  Once you have all four of those characters, beat it with them (and if you used Frank and Blade towards getting Zero and Joe, I believe that counts as part of the process) and you get Yatterman #2.  It's a little tedious, but the keywords are "a little."  It's pretty easy to beat the game and you can always make it go faster by putting the handicap levels and super meter levels up and the turning the difficulty down, making it cakewalk.  Or just wait a couple of days and see if someone puts up a save file to download.

The good thing about beating TvC's arcade mode is that you only need to finish the last boss with the character whose ending you want, so in other words, you could just have a team of Ryu and whoever, easily beat the shit out of the last boss by spamming fireballs and super fireballs, and then switch to your other character to get the last hit in, and it counts towards clearing the game with a new character.

If you didn't care for it before, what makes you think you would have liked it now?   :lol

The orb boss is some bullshit too, haha.

He's pretty easy and just has a few nasty moves in each form that you can get the basics of avoiding pretty fast.  You can obliterate him with any projectile users, but it can be trickier for those without them.  If you just want to unlock shit, just stick with Ryu, Saki, Frank, Megaman, etc. and blast the shit out of him. Yami is far easier to beat than say, Seth in SF4.

Don't think I'll bother with online play since I have a wireless Wii.
As if there's any other type? ???

You can get a wired adaptor for the Wii.  The thing is, it might improve your connection quality, but what about your opponent's?   :lol  Everyone is going to play it wirelessly.  Nobody knows how online play is going to be on the average yet since there's like five people playing online at a given time right now.  I've seen reports of it being awesome and others saying it's god-awful.  Nobody has any idea how far or how close everyone else is.

EDIT: I just had a couple of perfect matches.  No noticeable lag whatsoever...so it can happen.

I dunno, your enthusiasm made me think maybe the changes were really drastic like going from MvC1 -> MvC2 or something.  So I thought maybe I'd finally like it.  Also thought the new characters might make me like it more since Zero/Frank are cool.  One of the main problems I have with TvC is I hate everyone in the roster  :lol  Even characters I enjoy playing as in other games like Ryu or Alex or Morrigan aren't as fun to play here.  I love Onimusha but the Onimusha guy (while being good) is slow and not fun to use.  I love Megaman but megaman feels awful.  The giant characters seem cool until you play as them and it's like playing as the Sentinel except less agile.  I dunno, I really don't like how anyone in the roster feels.  I think I just hate the physics and controls.

I was the biggest MvC2 in my college for like 1.5 years straight.  I'd play all the local competition, read up on the message boards all night to keep up with the latest high level strategies/combos, I got good with almost every character in the roster and had a handful of competitive teams I'd use.  So I love this style of gameplay.  But for a lot of reasons TvC doesn't click with me at all.  I'd rather play SFIV any second of the year and you know that I'm not even that big on SFIV.  At least SFIV feels right in the physics and controls and every character is fun to use.

They fixed a bunch of dumb glitches, balanced the game out more, and added new characters/stages/music/online.  I like it more than the original version, sure, but did you really think an upgrade like UAS would be that drastic?

BTW, MvC to MvC2 was more like a downgrade.   ;)

This game has a ton of fun characters too.  :P  SF4 is the best no doubt, but this is a fun little diversion.  I am glad they essentially dumped the entire previous Vs. cast and started over, with only a couple of returnees (and even they feel different).  I never use Ryu in SF, but I love him in TvC.   Try more of the Tatsunoko side out.

Always a "flaw" with fighters on most systems and their standard controllers.  I don't blame you; didn't think this would be a game you'd even care about anyway.
