GDF/EDF is top tier :bow

I went back to Alan Wake and did my Nightmare/collectibles run. Fun game, but sometimes the combat is just terrible. Like those giant guys that walk around with two hand weapons, you have to sit there holding a flashlight on them for like 30 seconds before they become vulnerable. Awful. Game would have been way more fun if it had about half as much combat. I played through The Signal DLC as well, and it was pretty great - better than most of the chapters in the main game. I need to replay it though, because I missed the achievement for completing it without dying. Alan decided he should slide off the side of a mountain when I was going for one of the collectibles. I guess I'll buy The Writer when that comes out so I can see the real ending.

PS. Developers need to stop throwing hundreds of collectibles into their games in a sorry attempt to add replay value.

And now I'm playing Castlevania and Enslaved. Took forever to get them from Gamefly, but they're both better than I expected.

Assassins Creed 1 broke me of my need to do collectible quests. I got 34/35 flags in Masayaf, couldn't find the last one. Tried for a couple hours, used YouTube guides, finally gave right up. It has been liberating. Screw the collectibles stuff. I'm never going to find those last 7 Agility Orbs in Crackdown. I accept it, and can move on to other games.

Been playing this some today and yesterday. It's really good so far, feels a lot more like an RPG than Oblivion ever did. The world feels more lived in and detailed, the missions are more diverse and interesting, and it brings back experience points. German people know their stuff.

I guess I've officially swapped to Dead Rising 2 now. I can see what people mean when they say, "More of the same, but that's not a bad thing." I'm actually enjoying the lack of the camera, and busting out new combo card weapons is bliss-inducing. Failed "Ticket to Ride" last night after biffing the jump several times. Restarted as Level 11 Chuck; life gets progressively easier in the opening game... Yeah, I remember this feeling. Not a bad thing at all.

Also picked up Viking, because visiting the foreign games section of A-Too with Reno is always too much temptation to bear. He said, "It's vikings, in an open world game, with some stealth..." CRAP, DUDE, YOU HIT ALL MY KEY PHRASES. Am I about to be disappointed?

Viking is okay. It's completely unremarkable, but it's not aggressively bad or anything. It's a decent C-tier game to play through once and forget about it afterward. Also, take note that some of the achievements are missable. I found that out the hard way and had to play through half the game again for one achievement.

There's an expansion that came out in Germany but then never got released in the US, but apparently they're re-releasing an updated edition of Divinity II w/expansion in EU/USA sometime in the near future, maybe.

ah screw the RTS thing. I know what he means. The battles operate in real time (even though you can pause) rather than it being turn based or something.

No prob. Like I said I know what you meant. It may or may not be your thing but the way you play Dragon Age is pretty much in and out of pause mode. The real time bit of it makes it a little challenging in that you have to have a plan and execute it quickly although for 95% of the battles it's the same plan.

For what its worth I'm playing through it again right now using a different origin than I did before.

That's what the pause is for. Let's you stop the action and think about what you need to do next. Usually though I'll just pick a character to play as and let the other characters do whatever they want, only occasionally switching characters to activate a certain spell/skill or to heal.

Always kill the wizards on the other side first. They will fuck you up if you don't. Also the game starts off hard until you get a more balanced party and get some levels & abilities and start understanding how critical health and lyrium potions are.

i had the same problem with dao that i have with a lot of other wrpgs... i love playing wizards but god damn they are so weak at the beginning of quests!  usually yr character can only take a few hits before going down which makes getting used to the combat engine pretty rough.

actually scratch that - i was playing a rouge in dao.  didn't wanna play as some smug upper-class elf :link

Black & White

All the Fable 3 talk made me decide to go back and play some more. I don't think I've played it an good six or seven years, maybe more. Well...there's a fun game here, but it sometimes gets bogged down by an awful control scheme [especially the gesture system, which is truly, truly stupid] and long-winded, unskippable tutorials about things you figured out an hour ago on your own. So the game ends up being frustrating and slow, when it should move at a quicker pace.

anyway i reached floor 11 on etrian odyssey 3,one thing they changed that annoy me a lot is that certain items require you to farm specific items to buy,so for example right now i can't buy any revive item anymore because they requires "small flowers" so i'm forced to either go gather some small flower or do without them :-\
