FF4 is better designed than any recent JRPG... that isnt Last Remnant

i haven't played any recent JRPG where they ripped off EVERYTHING from an older rpg and then just added

1) a really crappy looking story
2) more random battle than i would want to suffer
3) brainless boss fight

i'm never going near last remnant if it's like the after years :yuck

Magus is totally on the money - FF4: The After Years started with promise... but then had way too much reused content (especially in some of the side stories... Palom's quest where you have to go through the waterfall cave no less than 3 times is AWFUL), a ridiculous encounter rate, and a super unbalanced difficulty. Plus it was pretty expensive all things considered.

tiesto just hates it because it's not from Japan

Really guys. Its one of the best games to come out in a long while. Japan is extremely stagnant... so it is refreshing to get a game like this, it gives you that sliver of hope that they might fnally start making good games.

True fact: demi is the only person I've ever seen praise FF4: After Years.  Everyone else is like omgggg this was soooo bad.  Hence why people are unhappy Kain in Dissidia 2 is the After Years version.

Playing the copies of Band Hero and Guitar Hero 5 I picked up in the USA last month.

I guess I shouldn't be even marginally stunned that Bobby Kotick managed to put the exact game out twice, at the same time, at full price. A mess of the 'cheevs are identical, and I think the character creation stuff is entirely identical. Same. Freakin'. Game.  :maf

On the brighter side, GH5 is a much friendlier game than GH3.

...Which I guess by default means Band Hero is also better than GH3.  :-\

Yeah Band Hero is basically a pop track pack to Guitar Hero 5.

...And the newest Guitar Hero is basically a metal track pack to GH5.  :teehee

Almost done with Mass Effect 2.  I've done everything possible in the game except the Overlord/Shadow Broker DLC which I'm gonna do now.  Then just whatever is left in the main story.  Hopefully finish it this weekend so I can redirect my time to Dead Rising 2 which seems great but I haven't played much since ME2 has my focus atm.

Also about to finish up Tales Narikiri Dungeon X.  2 more story dungeons and a couple dozen sidequests.  My copy of Zero no Kiseki shipped out today, due saturday, so I'm hoping I can finish this sat or sun and move to Zero as my handheld game of choice.

It's pretty stunning; it's like they just got a GH "engine" together and figured, hey, we can do this more than once... It's a good game, but it's shameless how similar the games are to each other.

Maybe not as shameless as Rock Band AC/DC using the Rock Band 1 base instead of RB2, but hey.

I'll take the Wii version, since it has all the content from the PS2 version, plus you can use a classic controller or Game Cube controller if you don't want to use the Wiimote/Nunchuck.

Burned out on Just Cause 2 and sent it back. It gives a great first impression but as I sort of feared I just burned out on it because its so janky. Maybe I'll give it another rent down the road and try to stick with it.

Just finished God of War 3. Pretty good game overall. The presentation is almost unmatched, but the gameplay is still so-so. Damage sponge enemies that take forever to kill, shallow combat, et al. The story and set pieces were by far the best in the series though. Pretty great from start to finish in that regard. Now I guess I'll go back and do the challenges, watch the videos, and clean up some trophies I missed on one of my earlier saves.

I wonder how they'll set up a GoW4, if they ever do one.

We're up to THREE good ipod games now!  Flight Control, Plants Vs Zombies, and now... Tilt to Live!  The tilt controls can be a little sensitive but its amazing the gaps you can squeeze through with them. Its essentially a geometry wars without  bullets.  Although you run into powerups which will trigger explosions and heat seeking fireworks to do your dirty work. I also tried Osmos and Flick Kick Football. I don't like the controls very much in Osmos, its alright as a game. Kick Flick Football is kinda like Fruit Ninja in that its a fun diversion but there really isn't a whole lot to it.

The Overlord DLC in ME2 was awesome.  The amount of content for like $5-7 or whatever was crazy.  It was a bigger adventure than practically anything in the main game and much more content than the more expensive Kasumi DLC (doing Shadow Broker currently).  Gorgeous art, neat creepy story, good combat, some shitty ship exploration but not enough that it damns it...good stuff.  One of the best DLC I've played for a game.

Dude, the CAVE games....Don't forget Angry Birds, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, and Peggle.  There's a lot of good stuff for the price if you look hard enough.  You just have wade through tons of junk.

I guess that's the one advantage of a backlog, by the time I get to playing it, it'll probably be out!

Just like how by the time I got to ME2, all the DLC was out so it's made the game much more of a huge meaty experience.  ME2 with all the DLC is probably the most content-packed wrpg I've played since the olden 2d days.  I'm at 32 hours, which is pretty impressive considering there is no filler and repetition and most scenarios are like 15-25 mins.

I bought peggle and space invaders infinity gene and the controls suck ass.  Its tolerable in Space Invaders until you cant shoot projectiles down anymore.  Peggle is just too slow and awkward with its touch controls.  Angry birds looks like a 2d boom blox, and I dunno, I've had my fill of my boom blox.

edit: Eh, I take back what I said about peggle, maybe I was just rushing through it before.

I started playing Radiata Stories. I actually played a few hours of this back upon release then dropped it due to DQ8's release, and never got back to it til now. Looks really nice upscaled (playing on PS3).

Shadow Broker was pretty nice.  The ship looked gorgeous and the cutscenes were good.  A bit too much combat though.  Since I haven't beat the main game yet, the boss fights were the longest in the game so far by like 10x

Got Legion and doing his Loyalty mission now.  Then I'm guessing it's just the final mission past the Omega 4 Relay?  If so, will probably finish this up tomorrow morning.  Great game.

Just finished GTA IV: TLAD. Good stuff. The TL;DR version is in the appropriate thread.

Tried getting past the last boss on Conan again tonight. I can't get past stage 3 of 6. I may look at a YouTube guide, but I think I'm just done. This is the third time I've spend over an hour on the boss. I just don't have the reflexes, patience, or tolerance to deal with this kind of frustrating final battle. I might just research the lead game designer and send him a mail bomb, or put flaming poop on his porch.

Today has been weird.

I (re)started a bunch of older games and somehow lost interest every damn time after only a few minutes.

Team Fortress 2: played through the tutorial.
The Witcher: am about to enter the first building.
Fallout 3 (german censored version without DLC :yuck): watched the sheriff die.
Gothic 3: pilfered the starter village, said Hi to the rebels.
Rogue Trooper: Second chip.
Red Faction Guerilla: demolished everything in the tutorial area. Then my 360 controller stopped being recognized by the game.
Audiosurf: played two Shantae Riskys Revenge tracks. Horribly.
Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY: emerged from the cave to get a look at the first open area.
Shatter: beat the first boss.

Also...
Recettear demo: was short 20 coins. Cardboardbox'd.

I was so, so sure I wanted to play a videogame.  ???

Naw, it happens sometimes. Read a book, watch a movie, sit out side and stare at the clouds. There are other pastimes, gaming's just -one- and when we give it too much time, we burn out on it, like anything else.

Just got my GoW3 platinum. The challenge mode was way shorter and lamer than I thought it would be. Meh.

On a side note, I always appreciate these unlockable videos in the GoW games, with 'making of' features and developer commentaries. They could easily stick that stuff on an LE disc and charge $10 more for it. I wish more developers would do this.

I won't play Dead Rising 2 in front of the little ones, so I ended up playing Carcassonne (360)  and getting my last 'cheev (5000 battle points) there WHILE otherwise losing epically.

Then I put Deathspank in, tried desperately to remember what I was doing last time I played the game. The game needs some sort of marker for where to go when a quest has been COMPLETED, so the player can close the deal. Just a checkmark at the nearest teleport spot. A weird oversight, when the game goes out of its way in so many other spots to coach the player what to do next. Game has edible unicorn poop though, so I'm willing to overlook it. "Hm! Is that candycorn?"

What's annoying is I'm only missing 1 cameo job (Id@lmaster) but it's ridiculously annoying to get.  You basically have to do 100% of the subquests and there are a million including some very grindy/annoying ones (Beat Expert Arena [boss on lvl.100] with Arche [who can only cast spells]) :(

The other cameos that I have are Kite from .hack with his tri-edge hi-ougi, Asuka from Tekken 5/6 with her 10 hit combo hi-ougi, the monolith from Xevious, a crab from ???, wonder momo, and Asbel from Tales of Graces.  The Prince is the only one that has its own cameo battle music.  Though I wouldn't be surprised if Id@master did too.

Ughh, I'm in the final dungeon and I could just finish it, or I could spend 5+ hours doing annoying sidestuff just to get that costume.  Grrr...

Playing Castlevania Curse of Darkness, the eviroments and the animations are godawful but the game is pretty fun, love the innocent devils and the weapon making :bow IGA :bow2

Tilt to Live for the Iphone is seriously the best 3 dollars you can spend. It actually has a fun and humorous achievement system that unlocks new awesome weapons, as opposed to 99 percent of other achievement systems that do jack shit but raise an arbitrary number.

Unfortuneatly when you unlock all the weapons theres no drive to complete the rest of the achievements unless you're a NEEERRRDDDDDD.

finished Tales Narikiri Dungeon X & Mass Effect 2 today.  Former was pretty good, latter was great.  ME2 is one of the best TPS I've played.  Gears 3 has a lot to live up to.

I lost a lot of interest in Gears after I played Uncharted.  Uncharted 2 in particular is the all-around better game, IMO.  And Vanquish looks like it's gonna annihilate everything anyway.
