The story quickly becomes dull and uninteresting after a few hours. Disappointing game.

I'm not really that concerned about the story, considering that most of the game is crawling through dungeons.

I was in the middle of this looooooooooooong multipart mission in RDR in Mexico and the game froze.  First freeze on my 2 month old X360-S.  Freezes are always at the worst time where you lose the most amount of time played.  Fuck this gen.  :maf

RDR once froze on me when I used the campsite specifically so I could save my progress. :maf

You know about changing up horses to force an on-the-fly save, right? But don't do it if you're going for the "Spurred to Victory" Achievement (20-missions-completed-with-the-same-horse).

Playing Fable 2, just recruited the BBW lady with the hammer, and have done a few sidequests. It's a lot better than the first game in terms of scope and content, the sim features are much better too. It feels a bit more like a "full" game, while the original was a short, extremely linear "proof of concept". I don't like how the combat is extremely simplistic (at this point), the map systems suck (well I guess there's the golden trail to help you out), the game looks really blurry, and how the menu interface feels EXTREMELY sluggish.
Install to HDD and the menu problem goes away. It still looks blurry and the combat is still repetitive though. Also, why the hell can't you mount the BBW, or some of the other saucy tarts? It's like you have a choice of hairdressers or whores, and one Bride of Frankenstein.

Strange Journey was one of my favorite games to come out last year.  Sure the story was as bad as your average Bioware game, but it had grindan, crawlan and fusan so I can't hate too much.  :rock

i noticed that i basicaly missed everything when playing trough bayonetta so i restarted chapter 1 and went trough it a few times and i couldn't find what i was searching for

so i said "FUCK IT!" and printed myself a collectible guide, turns out one of the collectible wasn't appearing because you have to backtrack to a certain location but you have to do so AFTER opening the door to go the next section but BEFORE going to the next section, that's so fucking distinguished mentally-challenged,do they really need to sell you official guide that bad? isn't there a japanese equivalent of gamefaqs/xbox360achievements? ???

but anyway, one of the special challenge ask me to execute 6 torture attacks in a single fight, how the heck i'm supposed to do that? i can barely pull off 3 before time runs out!

Taunting builds the magic meter quickly, as does dodging attacks IIRC. So just taunt and dodge when you are about to get hit. You'll probably need to do some combos as well to get enough points for a Platinum rating.

I don't think so. Bayonetta is pretty easy to get 1000/1000 on.

I've mainly been playing Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets, and both games are godlike. I never cared much for Yagawa's games, but then again I never REALLY tried to play them right, so maybe everything else he's made is just as amazing. :bow YAGAWA

Pink Sweets arrange mode is great too. I've got a feeling Ikeda programmed it... Then again, one of the reasons I appreciate Pink Sweets is because of its simple scoring system, and the arrange mode basically adds a typical Cave scoring system onto it. Whatever though, still awesome.

And the stage 4 boss in Muchi Pork is fucking ridiculous. He's seriously one of the hardest bosses I've seen in the first loop of a Cave game. What the hell.

It's just that it's kind of intrinsic to SMT.  It's been there since the start.  Admittedly, Strange Journey's is really simple, but when they pull it off well (like in Nocturne), it's pretty neat because it is more than just the WRPG "Save kitten/burn kitten" or the worse SMT's "Kill God/Kill Lucifer/Kill both".

Having choices affect the path of the game isn't inherently bad, it's just that it's usually done poorly.  Like... in... Strange Journey.  Yeah I dunno where I'm going with this.

While I'm still pleased with all the advancements that Red Dead Redemption has made to GTA, sometimes they kind of MISS obvious shit and it feels like GTA all over again.  I just did this train robbery mission in Mexico where you have to ride alongside the R guy and listen to him talk for 10+ mins to advance the storyline until you get to Chuparosa and then you have to stealth onto a train.  I accidently alerted the guards and they killed me in 1 second with 2 shots and the game dumps me back to the world map 5 mins before I even got to the R symbol.  So I had to ride to the R, skip the intro cutscene, do the entire 10 min+ horse ride all over again listening to the same speech just to get back to the stealth part.

Stuff like that is why I don't play GTA.  It's like prehistoric game design.  CHECKPOINT AFTER YOU DRIVE/RIDE SOMEWHERE and before the next set of actions occurs.  That is called common sense.  No idea why it took Rockstar like 10 years to figure that out with RDR and sometimes they still forget to checkpoint like this mission.  :\

Yeah, I stopped playing the game just after that train robbery mission. Boring game was boring. I'll pick it up again and get through Mexico at some point but seriously Mexico suuuuuuucks so much. But I keep getting told it picks up afterwards, too bad I have heaps of much better games to play.

I hope Rockstar has a plan to shake up the structure of the GTA series for V. Sure, mission variety would help, but I personally wouldn't be sold on just that. I'm really sick of GTA-style sandbox game design and I think Rockstar can do something better with that franchise.

Decided to start Yakuza and see what it's like. This game is good.

EDIT: I don't know if it's just me, but I really like the voice acting and writing in this game. And that's saying something, because normally I can't be satisfied when it comes to english VO in a japanese game.

Surprisingly, even though EVERYONE says Mexico sucks, I haven't had any problems with Mexico at all besides a freeze on the train turret gun mission last night, and the lack of checkpoint in the train robbery mission this morning.  Honestly, I love Mexico.  It looks amazing.  Gorgeous rock formations, valleys, towns.  I love all the Mexican music.  The strangers and missions are just as fun.  The only difference I really see between the first area of the game and Mexico is that as you did the missions in the first area you'd keep advancing west and be discovering new towns/settlements/ranches, etc.. so it was very rewarding and it made you look forward to every few missions to see where the story would take you next.  In Mexico, you basically explore the whole area in the first couple of missions for each side and so then the missions themselves just kind of go back and forth between areas you've already explored.  And when a mission does take you to a new place, it's usually just a gang hideout town and not a real town with stuff to do.  So yeah, the first area was more rewarding to explore, but in terms of the actual gameplay/story/visuals/music I'm enjoying Mexico every bit as much as the first area.

.

Nailed it. Gameplay was already pretty boring imo, and dragging out a bland area like Mexico for so long (the rock formations and characters really don't do it for me) let me move on to something else

i reached chapter 6 of bayonetta... playing the game feels kinda tiring what with all the shit happening on the screen and all the stuff you have to dodge, and the fact that you have to mash button everytime you execute a torture attack

but anyway barring the "faq this shit!" stuff, this is really really good, the last action game i played on this mold was devil may cry 3 and i didn't like it because of the horrible lack of checkpoints and blah sequels but this one rocks

there is one thing i don't get... score talking what's worse, using a healing item or dying?

Why can't I access 1-3 (Penetrator) door in Demon Souls? It says I have to kill an Archdemon. Isnt that what I've been slicing up?

I guess its cool though. Being vague is just part of the game.

I'm almost done with the game... what order should I do these:

- Flamelurker/Dragon God
- Old Monk (I read you have to play this offline because of some stupid ass Japanese design that forces you to fight another player, cause, thats totally what i want to do)
- Penetrator/False King
- Maiden Astrea

I'm probably gonna do Astrea next since you dont even have to lift a finger to beat it.

I usually do Penetrator + False King last since they're the hardest. It doesn't really matter what order you do the rest of them in, all of the Archdemons are easy.

And being able to play as the final boss of a world is one of the coolest online features this gen. Plus you get a GODLIKE hat if you kill the other player.

Finished Mexico, headed to Blackwater and did the first mission there.  Pretty cool town, though framerate is definitely a bit lower with all that geometry ^^;  Coming from Mexico, the swamps of Thieves Landing and the buildings in Blackwater are a pretty big change.  Although, I gotta say I loved Mexico.  I thought it was just as good as the first area of the game.  To me, RDR has been very consistent at being immersive, gorgeous like a painting, and a story that's good and interesting as long as you ignore all the amazingly inconsistent writing and the fact you have no control over the character's story attitude at all.

I think I'm going to spend a day or two and clear up the stranger quests I've got left, the survival challenges, the couple of jobs/gambling, hidden weapons, gang hideouts, outfits, and tons of bounties; then I'll marathon the rest of the story to see how it all ends.

- Old Monk (I read you have to play this offline because of some stupid ass Japanese design that forces you to fight another player, cause, thats totally what i want to do)

It also can work the other way though.  When I got to that boss, he just like...stood there and died in 2 seconds without doing anything and I was like "wtf, did my game glitch?  The boss was a joke".  Then I read that it was another player and went lol

Finally started playing Catherine.  Man, the gameplay is so good!  Freaking hard though.  Also the level of polish is really fantastic.  The visuals are nice but there's definitely stuff I want to see them improve by P5.  The faces are really great, but the bodies could use some work and the animation seems very placeholder PS2.  I would say I have faith that P5 will have better animation, but P3/P4 weren't exactly tech lookers and relied mainly on style :P

It takes 250+ hours and at least 3 playthroughs. And it's also a terrible game.

I think some day I'll slowly work toward completing it over the course of several months. Just playing an hour or two each day won't be so bad...

Just spent an hour or two playing Ketsui. Sorry Muchi Pork - as amazing as you are, nothing will ever top Ketsui. Game's a masterpiece. It's gotta be one of the most intense games I've ever played, and that's just the first loop! And scoring and soundtrack and theme and everything is just fucking perfect. Almost beat my old high score too; I was doing some ridiculous dodges all throughout stage 4. I should have died at least 4 times but I always got through it somehow. But still, I got destroyed by the boss because I'm woefully out of practice. :(

A friend asked me to get Medal of Honor MP to play with him so I game-fly-ed it

Good Lord I forgot how bad that MP is. I remembered it as being average. Really its complete crap.
