btw, I have all of this FF12 knowledge and I have done a fraction of what the game offers and beaten it twice, but have done three different runs. I have barely gotten any espers any time I play -- only settling for the ones the story gives me, I haven't gotten ultimate weapons EVER on any of my runs, I haven't done ever mark, and just about EVERY dungeon contains a monstrous, more menacing second half, particularly the Henne Mines and I haven't explored MOST of these. This is without mentioning all of the other side quests, and sub-plots that take place between npc's, and bonus dungeons.

Monstrous game.

Don't get me wrong, those games are great to go back and play, but I haven't had more actual, real fun with an FF game than FFXII and XIII. And for completely different reasons, too.

Started playing Guilty Gear 2 Overture. It's a fairly odd game based on my first impressions. It's like an RTS + tower defense + ARPG + fighting game. And also you can sprint and your character suddenly controls like a car and you have to drift around corners.

It's pretty good so far.

edit: This game is pretty damn hard so far. Challenging, complex, inaccessible, skill-based games :bow

Guilty Gear 2 is so good. Seriously one of this gen's hidden gems. It reminds me of Senko no Ronde as kind of an esoteric fighting game hybrid. Except instead of a shmup mix, it's an RTS since you control one "Master" unit (GG characters) and have to gather resources in order to build minions & earn new skills to destroy your opponent's "Master Ghost" (their main base).

Game's awesome. I always thought it was going to be Dynasty Warriors: Guilty Gear edition but it's nothing like that.

the cpu really doesn't know what to do against grappler characters,i tried finishing the game with ken and it was excruciating,i jump,he shoryuken,i hadouken,he jumps and hits me before i can shoryuken (or i mess up the shoryuken because GRA 360 D-Pad >:() i tried to get close and he use his throw (i'm talking about seth in case it wasn't clear)

comes with e.honda, spam his asstastic throw and i finished the game without continuing

anyway is there a way to have the game use rival music instead of the normal one? the normal music is sooooo bad,it sounds like something that would be in place in a game like megaman X9 not street fighter

Finished assassin's creed 2. I hated the first game, but thought there was potential there for something great, and AC2 was a step in that direction. Biggest improvement to me is that they at least removed redundant crap like eavesdropping before getting to your target. Game just had better pacing once you had all your abilities. Which took a while! Some people seemed to really hate the slow start of the game, but I felt it served as a good introduction to the setting and characters. Overall the cutscenes were way shorter compared to AC1's scenes full of ramblings and monologues. Story goes deeper into batshit insane territory with the Subject 16 stuff, but it's not in MGS territory just yet.

I also liked the main villa hub and village. Renovating and upgrading there was useless, but I ended up having a complete art gallery and armory anyway. Just for the heck of it. I see Brotherhood takes this concept and expands it to entire city, which is nice.

One thing that remained unchanged from the first game was the abundant number of viewpoints. I really don't see the point of climbing semi-high towers, when you could just have 4 big cathedrals be the viewpoints for the entire city. There's a total of 73 (!) view points and that's just too much when their only use is to clear up the map.
One thing was actually better in the first game: the road to and actual axing of your targets. In AC1 you could really get some satisfying stealth kills when your planning was good enough, but here getting to targets unnoticed was noticeably easier and didn't feel as satisfying, apart from a few exceptions. They were just easier to reach.

I hear Brotherhood takes the improvements and builds on that, so I definitely want to play it some point. It's good that the team seems to learn from their mistakes bit by bit. Could be that with AC3, they finally really nail the formula.

Shinobi was the first ps2 game I bought and never beat it, I got to the last boss once and spend like forty minutes fighting him but then I got frustrated and stopped playing, after that I didn't feel like doing the last level again so I stop playing the game and lend it to someone and never saw it again.

I finished up the Dissidia 012 story campaign.  It was pretty good with good use of FF nostalgia.  The new characters are all really unique to play as and well designed/balanced.  Laguna is the man and Kain is pretty rad.  I have 25 hours on my game save (the 012 campaign was like 15) and I've pretty much only used the new characters so far.  The story is entertaining and heavy drama, but it has no ending because it leads into 013 (the original Dissidia story, included in the game) and the ending is in 013.  The world map is cool and the way dungeons are done is pretty fun.  Overall it's a really good fighter/rpg hybrid for the 15 hours of the campaign.

013, aka Dissidia #1 is still awful though.  I tried playing it with the new world map/dungeon design but the cutscenes are still dreadfully boring and the dungeons are zzz.

There's a couple cool post-game modes though.  One is a high-level expert scenario with lvl.50+ dungeons with lvl.100 enemies at stuff.  Lots of great loot and you can level sooooo fast.  012 has a party system so you make a party of 5 characters and everyone shares xp and you fight other parties.  I got my main 5 from like lvl.30 to almost lvl.60 after a bunch of hours.

Then there's the Labyrinth mode which is an awesome dungeon crawler with loot and cards and FF fanservice.  It's the only mode where you can use Alternate costumes/DLC costumes and all your opponents use them too.  Plus it's the only mode that uses all the non-standard music on the ost like 8-bit chiptunes.  So you'll have fights against bizarre looking characters with awesome music in crazy versions of all the stages and get loot.

Game is about 10x better than the first game for sure.  I dunno how much more I'm going to play it at this point since there's really no "end" to it.  But I still need to give Gilgamesh a try and use Shantoto/Gabaranth, some of the villains more since I never used them much in the original.

So, you didn't like Dissidia but this new one is good?

I played Dissidia for ~6 hours on a plane ride when it was released a while back and haven't touched it since.  It was alright.  I was considering picking up that $3 prologue thing and seeing if that could get me back into it because it seems like something I like, being an arena fighter and all.

I thought the fighting was alright, the story/cutscenes were terrible and boring, and the leveling was a grind.

Now the fighting is good, the story/cutscenes are enjoyable, and leveling is not really a grind.  There's also just way more modes/characters/music/content.

It's one of those situations where the first game is a concept and the second game is actually making a good game of it.

90% of the reason to play Nier is the story, music, gameplay variety, and other things not directly related to the combat, since that area is not particularly great. It's not bad either, though.

Having the best story and OST this gen makes up for its mediocre gameplay.

The sidequests add so much to a lot of the characters, and the quests are almost voiced too, which is awesome. There are FIFTY sidequests in total! This is a BIG GAME for BIG BOYS

I beat Fable 2 - fun game but lame endgame/ending - now just finding the last few Gargoyles/Silver Keys/Demon Doors, then it's onto the 2 dlc packs.

Also was playing SpaceChem demo - it's a fucking HARD game, really made my head hurt trying to figure out WTF to do. Surprised this game doesn't get more attention, especially considering how many of you guys love Steam and PC gaming.

There are a couple sidequests you should do, one for increasing the size of your garden and one for gaining the ability to ride wild boars, but skip the rest of them on your first play through. You should be able to get the achievement with several hours to spare if you do that.

I used the roadmap at x360a and got my 1000/100 with the most efficiency possible pretty much. It's still a long slog though.

Some general tips for 1000:

- do the garden boosting sidequests before you miss them
- dont sell ANY materials EVER, some are rare and you'll need em all for weapon upgrades
- try and grind out your 1,000,000 gold before you start blowing cash on weapons from stores
- good luck!

Got Splatterhouse from Gamefly. Played the first couple levels, seems okay so far. I like how cheesy and over the top it is, but the combat is pretty much shit. The art and graphics are okay I guess but there's some bad framerate issues. Game's constantly stuttering. Great facial animation too.

Been playing Mushihime-sama Futari lately as well. Finally 1cc'd 1.5 Original with Reco (232m score), so I'm pretty much done with that mode for now. I was going to move on to Maniac, but I think I'll go for the achievement for getting 100,000 counter in Black Label Original. It's pretty hard to get the counter that high though, since you basically have to point-blank as many enemies as you possibly can, AND not die AND not bomb, because those take a big chunk off of your counter. And once your counter gets 70k+ the rank gets insane. The bullets become lightening fast. It's like you're suddenly playing a Psikyo game or something. edit: you know what, fuck that achievement. way too rage-inducing considering you need to play perfectly to break 100k. fuck off cave

and I'm about to start playing Yakuza 4

and I need to finishin 999 still

and I still need to finish Sherlock Holmes

and I still need to finish Guilty Gear 2

fffffffff

So far they have felt like bonus levels. You know, that extra room filled with easy bonus points. Fun enough, and it lets you go wild which is nice, but the campaign was so good that I think I'd rather just play that again.

it's pretty good if you play it right (assuming you're playing on 360). ie. run past every enemy you see and only fight bosses and forced battles.

it's pretty bad if you play it like a normal game.
