Ugh. Just died on the final boss in Ketsui, with 50% health left and I still had two bombs in my stock. Fucking hell, I could have had him if I just used the damn bombs. I was using Type B though, which I never ever use, so a lot of the strategies I practiced with Type A were useless. Meh, I'll beat the fucker some day.

Time for 999. Gonna get endings 1 & 2 and finish the game up.

Had my first encounter with someone's online party in Disgaea 4.  Thankfully, like you would expect out of Japan, they were a friendly pirate crew and were double my levels and helped me take out the enemies.  Yay.

The online features in Disgaea 4 are pretty good.  It's similar to some of the online in Demon Souls where it's more passive and not real-time.  You make pirate crews to send to random people's item worlds and you choose for them to either fight against or help out the person.  You assemble the ship giving it different stats based on the ship parts, pick the crew, pick the BGM, make a pirate crew name and send them off.  Then you get reports as to whose item worlds they've crashed and it ranks their strength on a leaderboard based on their performance in those times.  When you look at the leaderboard you can challenge other pirate crews higher on the leaderboard than you and there will be an ai fight and if you win you take their place on the leaderboard.  And you get stuff for doing all this.

You can also make a character in your party an ambassador to other people's dark assembly meetings.  You set their AI type and what kind of bribes they like and if they show up in someone's assembly and that person bribes them you keep the bribes.  You get to see a history of whose assemblies they went into.

Finally you can set a party member to be a helper ambassador who will appear in other peoples games if they use a cellphone item in a stage.  If they use the item and randomly get your ambassador, your character will join the battle as an AI helper fighter and you keep stuff gained from their fight.

There's also a map maker and you can already play hundreds of people's levels.

Pretty cool.  Had a good run too.  Went from lvl.59->79 and turned a 110 INT staff into a 500 INT staff from it.  Plus lots of good loot :)

finished radiant historia, the ending was a little disappointing, the game pull off a decent war plot a-la suikoden but after that

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the obvious villain turns out to be the obvious villain, the hero turns out to be "THE ONE WHO CAN SAVE THE WORLD" and it just spills into generic save the world jrpginess and the hero sacrifice his balls just so that the rest of the cast can spend the whole ending lamenting his departure :-\
[close]

buuuuut anyway, what to say about this

- as i said it has a pretty good war plot, the one that suikoden tiekresis should have had instead of that "DESTINY!" pap and a really kickass main character who seems immune to common JRPG trope's,in fact it's pretty much the whole reason i returned to the game after stopping playing it

- the battle system is okay,it is original but not particulary fun compared to a standard one,if anything it feels a little amateurish, the last bunch of enemies do no damage then you jump to the next batch and they murder your whole party

- having 2 plot was a pretty original idea, both plot have the same narrative (the hero trying to stop the war) but they deal with it in different way, different stuff happens, you visit different place, different villains... quite cool

- the character have all different roles in battle which is good but you are always forced to have stocke in your party and one of them (aht) deals so much damage you probably never want it out of your party, that leave a space for only 1 character more

- there are a lot of sidequests which give tons of cool rewards like new skills or kickass equipment but some of these have a strict timing to activate, you can always jump back in the story in case you miss one but having to replay bits of the game to do so is a pain in the ass

- it is pretty clear that the whole game was made with a budget of 2 coconuts,or if it had a budget it all wents to the musician

the whole game looks, tiny, ugly and sprites are recycled to level you weren't tought possible, one boss fight,a giant spider gets repeated 5 times trough the whole game and the optional boss just looks like a normal mook just with higher stats, this was the reason i stopped playing the game, paired with the random difficulty of the game

anyway a better pick than dragon random fight quest 6 and tactics bore, shame on you if you picked one of those instead of this

Just finished 999, then went to read the "answers" on Aksys' site. When the director was saying how he had to keep going back and add more ideas in without thinking about it, that made a whole lot of sense since there are a TON of very convenient happenings throughout the story, but regardless, it was still fun and interesting. The only thing I didn't like was how you have to replay the same puzzles over and over and skip past text you've already seen, which is really annoying.

Oh, and this game has the best "Just as planned" twist since Death Note, which is awesome.

I guess 2010 was a good year for video game stories. Nier's is still better though. :D

Lots of achievements rely on rare spawns, grinding, farming, and random drops (IIRC). Have fun reloading your save 50000x to get an ultra rare beetle to spawn.

Also, since you're playing on 360, read at least one guide regarding Battle Rank. If you do not level up properly, you will have to grind for forever in order to kill The Fallen (the optional megaboss). Just make sure you read the achievement guide on x360a before you begin.

that guide says that i shouldn't kill anything that it's not quest related or a boss, then it tells me that i should start to grind after reaching BR10 until BR25 which is somewhat confusing.... ???

Hmm, I can't really remember, but I think there's an area before the 9 bases (or whatever) that you are supposed to grind on since the enemies there give you a nice stat increase that will last you until you get to the Ancient Ruins... Oh wait, I think the Ancient Ruins is (free) DLC... can you use that with a modded system? If not, I have no clue where you'll have to go to grind, since everyone just uses the Ancient Ruins because it's full of high level enemies that give big stat boosts.

Also, lots of sidequests are missable, and there's an achievement for doing every one of them. Make sure you follow the guide for it.

It's a good game. It might take a while to get going, but the battles are pretty fun and they require a decent amount of strategy when you're always fighting enemies way higher level than you. That's what made me really like the game when I replayed it - skipping all of the trash enemies and only fighting quest mobs and bosses was just a lot more fun. Cuts out the fat and makes the game way more enjoyable.

ANYWAY

:elephant JUST 1-ALL'd KETSUI :elephant
:elephant :elephant :elephant :elephant :elephant :elephant

What a run I just had. Actually I've done pretty well on each of my runs today - I fought the final boss 3 times in a row but choked each time. Now I just had a run where everything was going well in stages 1, 2, and the first half of stage 3. Then I get to the stage 3 mid-boss. Normally, he's no problem at, he's just a 1up dispenser. This time though, I die once as soon as his final pattern starts. Then I die AGAIN before killing him. What the fuck. Normally I would ragequit, but I said fuck it, I'll play the rest of this run for score (since I was scoring well until then) and it'll be my final credit. Then I take out the stage 3 boss no problem. Then I destroy stage 4, which I normally die once or twice on somewhere, but this time I just didn't give a fuck. Got through the stage and took out the boss without any issues (used a couple bombs I think). Then I got through stage 5 with only 1 or 2 deaths IIRC, which is a miracle since that stage is hard as FUCK. Then I got to the boss, bombed the shit out of him, died once I think, then finished him off. 103m final score with Type A.

I guess now I'll start working on the tsuujou loop (lol).

Review: 11/10, best game ever, masterpiece, ikeda is god, etc.

:bow iconoclast :bow2 greatest gamer ever to grace Evilbore.

I got on the Cave buzz today myself, had a few rounds of Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets Arrange Mode.

Pink Sweets Arrange is pretty friggn easy, I got up to Stage 3 boss without dying once, then got flattened because I had never got that far before and didn't know what to expect in terms of attacks. I reckon I can 1cc Pink Sweets Arrange Score Attack with a little practice. Very scrub friendly mode.

I still suck at MMP though. I'm trying to play for score, not survival, and I keep fucking up my chains once I get to the 10k medals. Practice practice practice is what I need to do

Normally I would say to play more for survival instead of score, but MMP is a game where scoring and survival are tied pretty close together since you get extends every 10mil. But on the other hand, the rank increase can be painful on certain sections, so it's double-edged. Yagawa is awesome like that.

Pink Sweets Arrange is really awesome too. It's still fairly challenging and the scoring system in it is great. Probably my favorite arrange mode in any Cave game.

i played a little bit when it got out and i couldn't understand what was good about it,most people will mention about how COMPLICATED AND DEEP the game is it but it's just a matter of giving weapons to your unit and watching them wreak shits

my biggest bone to pick with the game is that there are a lot of items you need to recruit more unit and these items are found inside barrel chest and lamps that you need to break and there are A LOT of those items, the end result is that you spend more time fighting barrels than fighting monster

anyway more question about the last remnant

1) can i change the equipment of other units i have? if so how?
2) are leader and units the same thing? if they are that means i can only have a party of 3 guys at the moment?
3) are guild mission important? most of them seems to involve killing monster which would raise the BR so i'm not sure if i should do them

i just can't get over how distinguished mentally-challenged is this whole "fight monsters and they get stronger while your character stays the same so it's better to dodge every monster" idea seriously the last time i saw this kinda of stuff was back with FF8 and it's progressive "answer a quiz to get more money" stance

and even scratching that, battle seems to take forever while stuff just happens, you give orders and then the game plays itself for 5 minutes while screaming stuff like "INTERCEPTION" and "SIDE ATTACK" without no ryhme or reason,it doesn't even feel like i'm doing anything to progress my character, stat and skill upgrades happens when the game feels like it,basicaly it's incredibly stupid for all the same reasons saga is incredibly stupid

and even when scratching all that the whole thing screams generic to me,the only thing that strikes me positively is the fact that the game looks quite pretty but i guess that's what happens when it runs under the unreal engine

Also, you cannot directly equip your allies in the Last Remnant. Sometimes if you have a weapon in your inventory that they want, or if you have components they need to make their next weapon, they'll ask you for it on the world map screen.

Leaders are more powerful than generic dudes. You'll unlock more as you progress.

And I think there's an achievement for doing guild missions, I can't remember anything else about them.

i'm not banned but i have no way to connect to the internet and as i said my problem is that unless i grind with the right enemy,i'm fucked up forever

in a normal rpg the right enemy to use for grinding is the one that gives you the most XP,not the one that doesn't makes all the other mobs too strong

and besides why did they even add an area for grinding? from what i understand this whole level scaling stuff is only in the 360 version,it's like they realize they fucked up

Playing left 4 dead on the 360 which I got in on gamefly. I only played the demo way back when and farted around for a relatively short amount of time with the PC version. I'll probably play a campaign a day. It's fun enough although the shooting doesn't feel great to me on consoles as it feels like it was made for mouse and keyboard which it was. I think I prefer something like RE 5 co-op on consoles but I'll still play through left 4 dead.

Hmm, I'm running the UMD on GEN w/Prometheus...  hmm.  I'll have to mess around with it I guess.  Glad it's an issue with my config and not this game, cuz otherwise this seems like the ultimate FF4.

Would disagree. I would stand by GBA version after this. I dont feel After Years would warrant a push ahead in the list, but I'm glad it's included.

I never played the DS version

I never noticed any of that, and I finished the game just fine. So it gets a big SHRUG. I stand by the old skool.

Finished up Sherlock Holmes. I enjoyed it, but it's super janky and low-budget. I gotta say, that one picture they give you of the girl with the fucked up face from syphilis kinda creeped me out, and stuff like that usually doesn't bother me in the least. Weird.

Now that my 360 is back from repair I suppose it is time to resume Deadly Premonition. Might start over from the beginning.

Batman: Arkham Asylum = Beaten.

Fantastic game. Really loved all the Scarecrow stuff. Kinda weak final boss, but that's not a huge deal.

EDIT: After that game I think I'm ready to take on the Splinter Cell games. Are there any games in the series I should avoid? Please, give me the scoop, EB! I've only ever played the demo of the first game, and I didn't like it at the time since I was a weeaboo who didn't appreciate gaijin trying to ape Kojima. How are the PC versions?
