Went back finished the story off in Yakuza 4 as well (I left it unfinished since I was doing sidequests)... the ending jumps the shark about 4 different times, but whatever. Still an excellent game and a nice return to form for the series after the mediocre Y3. I think I'm gonna replay Y3 first before doing a second round of Y4. I'd like to platinum both games one day but they're huge time investments.

And I'm gonna start Majin in a minute since I finally got it from Gamefly. I enjoyed the demo, so I figure I'll like the full game well enough. No idea what the achievements are, but I really hope there isn't ANOTHER boring collectathon ahead of me...

Got DJ Hero 2 for the PS3 last weekend and I'm almost done with its empire mode on medium . I tried the final DJ battle against DJ Qbert earlier and got my ass kicked. Why is this so much harder than the rest off the game?!

Anyway, really fun game. Are the mixes in the first DJ Hero just as good? I'm thinking about getting it.
I like dance music and am particularly fond of mashup/bastard pop. Even so, there is a LOT of repetition across the songs used for the mixes in DJ Hero 1. There are some really good mixes, and then there are a bunch of mixes which sound almost the same. There are also some crap mixes where it's more abrasive and annoying.

What is "Empire Mode"? In DJ Hero 1, there's just setlists to play...

Definitely pick up the second one if you liked the first one... much more of a variety of songs to play.
I might do that if I can find it cheap next time I'm in the USA. Or if an Osaka importer has it cheap... Thanks!

God those sequences were annoying. Pretty much anything that involved anything other than capping fools in the dome was pretty much a mess, including those horrible mech parts.

Good thing I had Bulletstorm and its mighty murder boner to get the nasty Guerilla taste out of my mouth

played Kinectimals for 3 hours last night. Shit was XTREME. My legs are pretty sore now. Finished the main game with all gold medals, now just gotta boost all the multiplayer cheevs locally for 1000. Feels good to cheevo farm again, it's been a little while. Next I'll be hitting Motionsports and King Kong

its no Nintendo Dogs (no addicting rare item drops and shit), but it's very technically sound. Pretty much all the kinect movements register great.

The cubs are super cute and VERY well animated, the visuals are definitely the high point of the game. The art direction and surroundings are fantastic.

It's basically a collection of minigames, many of which don't actually involve the animals, which is unfortunate. But it's fun enough, just a bit repetitive. It's a bit more than just a tech demo and takes around 10 hours to beat. You could do a lot worse in the Kinect launch lineup.

I've always had a soft spot for virtual pet type games which is why I picked it up. I'm gonna give it to my 7 year old brother once I 1k it.

and hooooly shit at the Motionsports Trueachievement ratios:
http://www.trueachievements.com/MotionSports-xbox-360.htm

looks like only 2 people have 1000 in the game, and theres a 50 point achievement worth 1460 trueachievement points  :lol
apparently the game is broke as fuck which makes the cheevs near impossible, although I read a recent update fixed most of the sensor issues. We'll see. I'm borrowing it off my sister who got it free when she won a kinect off a coke bottle.

of course theres the notorious "horse meet rider" Giant Bomb video, but to tell you the truth the reason why their horse wasnt jumping is because they were doing completely the wrong motion for a jump. Probably would have paid for them to watch the 20 second tutorial

edit: whoa I just saw Motionsports has an acheivement called: "ADRIAN!!!". I'm gonna have to get that one. It's not everyday you can unlock an achievement which is actually your real name  :)

haha, theres no online, all multi cheevs are local, you can just boost them with several local profiles. Cheers though  ;)

oh and it has a plot, as you play frisbee, throw balls etc. you get cutscenes involving other funny animals (pelicans and shit). You're collecting pieces of a pirate map and looking for buried treasure and stuff. Kids should eat that shit up, I enjoyed it, even if the pirate captain was a cigarillo

but yeah try the demo if you're interested. I quite enjoyed the game and it has garnered above average review scores.

a couple of them do I think. Kinect Adventures has it.

But Kinectimals has the most convoluted local play system ever, I had to read an achievement guide to even figure out how the achievements worked! God knows how kids are supposed to figure that shit out. Theres tons of menus to go through and profile swaps etc.

Just randomly beat Maniac mode in Mushihime-sama Futari Black Label with Reco. I started playing it again yesterday, credit fed it, played a few score runs and was like "yeah, I think this will be the next game I try to beat." Then today I beat it on one of my first few credits. I was expecting to put in a lot more work, but to be honest it's not very difficult to clear. Finished the run with 338 mil, which I guess isn't completely terrible since I'm ranked 139 and #1 on my friend list (barely).

Hmm... I guess I can try 1.5 Maniac next.

Finished my first playthrough of Splatterhouse. Game's pretty crappy but it's cheesy and campy enough for me to like it a little. Hopefully I'll finish it up completely tomorrow.

Been playing some Majin too (about 5 hours in). It starts a little slow, but it's pretty good once you're out in the world finding treasure, exploring, and solving puzzles. It's low budget and the voice acting is kinda bad, but it's a nice little quirky action/adventure game. I'd recommend it, especially for the $15~ it's been going for lately.

On a side note, the Majin is always talking and he sounds like a distinguished mentally-challenged Barney the Dinosaur. I can't tell if this is a good or bad thing though.

AssCreed: Brotherhood is complete. best one of these they've put out.
That Yahtzee wossisface says it's pointless:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/2519-Assassins-Creed-Brotherhood

But a bunch of other people, you included, say it's even better than AC2. I'm playing AC2 right now. Over a year ago, after about 10 hours of play, I set it aside and realized I'd have too much trouble remembering the controls to pick it up. "Fortunately," when my 360 RRoD'd last year, I misread the game data as AC1's and deleted all my save files instead of transferring them.

So I'm replaying the first part of the game, and finding myself REALLY impressed with the game. It's superb. I don't know it could be made much better than this. It's a good thing I started over again, because I'd be really baffled, particularly after becoming completely accustomed to the climbing of The Saboteur.

And that's really the last thing, I am SO happy that I finished Saboteur before picking this up again. The climbing model in Saboteur works alright, but requires constant mashing of the A Button and has issues with the camera. The AC2 model is just LIKE BUTTAH.

So, what are they doing better in AC:Brotherhood, my AC:Bro?

It's small stuff but essentially they keep improving the more annoying aspects of the game. Like the combat is better now mainly because you can blow through it quickly by chaining assassination kills together. And you have these ninjas with you at all times so that you can call them in and quickly win battles. Lots of stuff like that.

it basically takes every aspect of the first game and refines it. combat is more fluid. missions are structured better. wide variety of side missions. the brotherhood aspect - allows you to recruit other assassins to do your dirty work also send them out on contracts jobs to level them up. a lot of minor stuff but since 2 was already really good it makes for a better experience overall

Put a few hours into Shogun 2. Playing on Hard. It's tough. But so good.

Started a new campaign as the Shimazu clan, since traditionally in the first game I always started on the western side of the map. Pretty good starting province in the bottom left corner of the map, sandwiched between two other clans, one to the north (Sagara clan) the other to the east (Ito clan).

My first order of business, other than building an army and maintaining my province, was to negotiate an alliance with the Sagara clan to the north, to this end we agreed trade and to cement affability I wedded my eldest son with Sagara daimyo's daughter. Since the Sagara are renowned for their loyalty and honour, this could be a long and fruitful relationship. This leaves me free to concentrate all my military expansion to the east, against the Ito clan, without having to worry about Sagara clan making any moves.

So having built up a relatively large garrison of about 2000 men, I send them out east. I take all three of Ito clan's provinces with relative ease. Things are looking up. But not for long.  Apparently, ANOTHER clan, the Shoni, have declared war on me, and are moving in from the north, since they're allied to the Sagara and have military access through their borders straight to me. I don't even have military access, and we're supposed to be family!

Okay most of my men are out east trying to keep Ito rebels down from the newly captured provinces there. Okay, I'll just ask the Sagara clan to break their alliance with the shifty Shoni clan, we're family right? But since the fuckers are so loyal either way, they won't do it, and I don't have any money left to bribe them either. No matter, the Sagara will pay for this slight soon. Just as soon as I take care of Shoni clan.

I must prevent the incoming Shoni from taking my main province, so I move the whole of my garrison from the east back to hold the fort against the onslaught from the north. This means I have very little resistance against an uprising from Ito rebels, and wouldn't you believe it, they manage to raise a huge army of about 1500 men and overthrow my tiny garrison to take back their land. Bah.

To cut a long story short, I defeat the oncoming Shoni force. The Ito attack me from the east and I still manage to keep my fort. The saga of Shimazu clan continues...

Defending the fort against Shoni clan:

And that's 5 hrs into the game. It's pretty great. As you can see, campaign AI is pretty ruthless, and battle AI is much, much improved over the previous games. Also, haven't run into any bugs or game crashes yet! It's a miracle. I remember Empire bugging out in the first hour, ruining the campaign mode for me.

Also, I have the worst ninja eva! I sent this punk out on like 5 missions already and not one success! The best he can manage is a wounding when I send him out on assassination missions and he can't sabotage worth a shit. It's a wonder he hasn't been caught yet! I still wub him tho, he's my first ninja. He'll come good soon.

so many thing i have still to do to 100% the game but i guess there is no point in doing them until i finish the game whole

I'm a little over half way done with my second Splatterhouse run and the game is actually somewhat enjoyable this time (it's more like a 6/10 now instead of a 4/10). It gets better after you unlock the ability to instakill enemies by grabbing them and ripping their arm off, and more importantly, when you unlock the ability that makes you evasive roll invincible. Seriously, what fucking developer makes you unlock BASIC FUNCTIONALITY? That is distinguished mentally-challenged beyond words.

But anyway, I think I finally realized something. When I have to look at a guide every 10 minutes to see where the next worthless collectible is, that makes me hate a game 5x more than I normally would. Games where collectibles are actually useful are exempt from this (God of War for example). I need to keep this in mind.

had another repulsive Kinectathon last night.

Got 1000 in Kinectimals.

I can see why only 2 people in the world have 1000 in Motion Sports. Game is crazy difficult. I'm trying to get a diamond medal on the beginner horse riding course and it's very, very hard. Guess I gotta keep trying. It wouldnt be so bad if the load times werent so looooong and there wasn't 5 different screens to wade through after every attempt. I guess they didn't have time to QA this game properly.

Also played some Kinect Adventures for some more easy gamerscore. The game is cute I guess but shit doesn't get more shallow than this gameplay. Still, its a decent workout. After 3 days of playing Kinect I'm already feeling more flexible and have more energy. I think I'll keep this up. I know someone with a copy of Your Shape: Fitness Evolved so I'll give that a whirl soon.

1000'd Splatterhouse. Yeah, the second playthrough was way more enjoyable. It still has a myriad of problems of course, but it's a decent rental. It also has a few decent songs on the soundtrack, but a lot of it is embarrassing screamo shit that barely qualifies as music. Oh well, it fits the game. 6/10

I finished Disgaea 4's main story around 44 hours.  It was long and hard and I still fucking hate the dark assembly and wish they would drop it already as its the worst part of the Disgaea franchise (instead of just ummm, unlocking new stuff, why don't you have to WORK to unlock things just to even attempt them).

Otherwise, it's Disgaea.  Story is better than 2 but more boring.  Worse than 3/1.  Gameplay hasn't changed since Disgaea 3.  Sprites are clean and big but who cares everything looks the same.

I dunno, I enjoyed it but I'm sick of Disgaea games.  They're my least favorite N1 srpgs.  If they announce Disgaea 5 for next Feb, I'm going to punch them.  :punch

Thanks, guys, for the thoughtful answers on what makes AC:B better than AC2 and AC1.

I'll definitely have to pick it up now, because AC2 is causing me no end of distraction. I want to go home and PLAY RIGHT NOW.

And that's really the last thing, I am SO happy that I finished Saboteur before picking this up again. The climbing model in Saboteur works alright, but requires constant mashing of the A Button and has issues with the camera. The AC2 model is just LIKE BUTTAH.

That would not surprise me at all. I am stunned at how different the two models manage to be, despite their clearly intentional similarities. Some of my most frustrated moments in Saboteur were from climbing-and-camera issues. At one point, Sean leaped from a tower for no reason I can ascertain. He'd been climbing a drain pipe, the easiest way to scale any building, but the thing ended in an inset corner. The camera freaked the hell out, and it's the camera which dictates where Sean can move next. So instead of defaulting to "up" I guess Sean chose "away from the building and all sanity."

Made it to the halfway mark in Nier. Game is still awesome, although at times the combat feels a bit sluggish, that's really the only problem I have with the game. I really like the genre-mashups the game has.

Buy the Phoenix Spear and never worry about combat again. God tier weapon and that obliterates everything with ease.

--

Majin's world map is so poorly designed. Why would they not have one big, open field that almost every area connects to? Instead, you have to backtrack CONSTANTLY across 8 different areas just to get to where you need to be. This is why I can't stand open world games. They are 60% padding because they force you to run back and forth all the time instead of actually letting you play the damn game. Linear games will always reign supreme since they cut out all the bullshit.

Also, it's annoying how you can't set the Majin's AI. The dpad does absolutely nothing in this game, why would they not map different behaviors (ie. passive, aggressive, defensive, etc) to up, down, left, right? This is basic shit that every (good) game with pets lets you do. It's not really a big deal, but come on.

But other than those two problems the game is awesome.

Are you using a two-handed weapon or something?

Played more Assassin's Creed 2 last night. Trying to get Monteriggioni's buildings restored and leveled up, so I will have more money than God to buy all levels of all armor and weapons.
you can also bring horses IN TO THE CITY
That will be helpful in that one Caligula mission, I bet.

If you're looking for a challenge, or on a budget, get the original Dead Rising and play the hell out of it. Dead Rising and Crackdown are two early 360 titles that have aged stunningly well.

DR2 is a fantastic game, improves on only a couple things over the original, but it's a cakewalk compared to the first one's difficulty level, especially if you arm your party of Survivors.

Legend of Heroes is great.  It's the new Suikoden; I'm surprised Himuro isn't eating it up but he's probably busy with DW right now.  I saw Prole played and liked it from the gaf thread.

1000'd Majin. Really good action/adventure game with lots of puzzles and exploration. If you can put up with lots and lots of backtracking, I'd definitely recommend it. Would've been nice if it had less combat and better AI though. 8/10

200'd Duke Nukem Manhattan Project as well. Pretty bland and uninteresting game from start to finish pretty much. The level design is okay, but the combat is dull and the controls are janky, so it's just not very fun to play. 5/10

Guess I'll play Torchlight next.

finished tales of vesperia, this was really good tough it didn't feel original or anything... more like a proper symphonia 2,the character were good, they all fit some animu/jrpg stereotype but barring estelle (who has a "what should i do.....?" moment every 5 minute) none of them are overplayed, the plot is quite nice at first but it kinda devolve into generic "save the princess, save the world" jrpginess toward the end which is kind of a shame, one thing that shocked me positively is when

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the hero goes and straight up murder one of the minor villains,i was like "really? that happened? in a jrpg? that's gotta be a first",and when the other character discovers it,none of them make a fuss about it,that's strangely mature considering all the whining and drama i had to suffer in tales of abyss when the hero accidentaly helps the villain
[close]

i also think that the game drags a little, you think it should have been over a few hours ago and instead they just pull off some excuse out of their ass so the heroes can ends up spelunking into another dungeon, considering that the whole game can be speed-runned in 10 hours,i wonder if they padded it just so that it wouldn't be too short

the battle system is tales of.. you mash button and enemies go fly everywhere,it's cool but not that particulary good,it's a blast at first but near the end the magic is lost for the simple reason that your characters get godly, they can hit the enemy an infinite amount of time, have access to free full party heal as long as the enemy stands faraway from the healer and one weapon in particular makes you completly immune to being hit barring damage which is as overpowered as it sounds,i remember in symphonia having A LOT of fun fighting abyssion but here i barely had to put any effort at all, bebpo says that playing with judith makes the game more fun because yuri is boring but i digress, any character other than yuri can't combo for shit and/or is slow as hell, heck when forced to use any other character for the 100-man challenge i prefered to just put the game on easy so i wouldn't have to fight my way against the controls!

the most impressive thing about the game is that it's a classic rpg, starting with the ps2 it has been pretty common for rpg to make concession, they remove the world map,or dungeons suffer from hallway syndrome so considering that this game is on an HD console that's pretty impressive, heck the last rpg that i played that had all in order was arc rise fantasia and that was a wii game

the cellshaded graphics are really impressive,i think the closest you can get to playable animu tough i guess there aren't many HD cellshaded game to begin with? (yea yea valkyria chronicle,it's sega, blargh sega)

so in short it looks nice,it has okay music,a decent plot and a fun battle system at least until you don't activate god mode

i'm not really sure i'm going to 1000/1000,i would like to do so but it involves doing a lot of really really really annoying stuff,to be fair i already did a good chunk of annoying bits (like the EX dungeon) but it's because of that, that i'm not sure i want to do all the remaining chores

can you believe I'm VERY weary of hooking my PS2 up to my tv? It's seems like such a long process to hook it all up and wait for the games to load. I rather surf all day :drake

From what I played (~5 hours), it's like Grandia x Suikoden 2.  The battle system feels fairly unique in a good way, the characters and writing is really nice like Grandia and the richly developed world that spans over multiple games is very reminiscent of Suikoden.

Played some DW7 tonight online with Mox Maniac. We tore shit up and got me Red Hare. After that I unlocked the treasure staff. Amazing game.

Killed the first boss in Torchlight. Game's kinda boring tbh, you just mash XXXXXXXXXXXXX and don't really need to think about anything. Kinda like musou games with actual loot.

Think I'm gonna play Bullet Witch instead.

I played Diablo 2 briefly but yeah, never spent much time with any of these games. I don't think it's bad or anything, it's just not a game (or perhaps genre) that I can play for hours at a time. It gets boring pretty quickly.

There is a very specific mood I have to be in when I want to play loot games. Otherwise they can get boring very quickly. Especially if it doesn't have co-op.
