I started up Infinite Undiscovery last night. First thing I was struck by is how many logos there were in the opening. Square Enix, Microsoft, Tri-Ace... how many companies does it take to make a mediocre jRPG these days? Didn't know it had an action-ish combat interface and seemed to spend the majority of an hour running away from things then met those dinner dance kids.

That's a great writeup, Mafflard... I'm very skeptical of Kid Icarus, Zelda and Mario 3DS... so it's nice to get some firsthand reports by someone who seems pretty nonbiased in terms of Nintendo. I'll need to try Dark Souls even though Demons Souls didn't click with me.

Yeah, way too many bullets to kill them, and you fight way too many of 'em. At least the exposition cutscene is funny!

how did Dark Souls play on a 360 pad?

felt great. why wouldn't it?

That's a great writeup, Mafflard... I'm very skeptical of Kid Icarus, Zelda and Mario 3DS... so it's nice to get some firsthand reports by someone who seems pretty nonbiased in terms of Nintendo. I'll need to try Dark Souls even though Demons Souls didn't click with me.

Kid Icarus didn't do anything for me but I was fighting the controls most the time, switching the stylus between hands. Mario 3DS's gimmick is that the 3D is kinda useful, but I'm disturbed by the fact that they felt they *had* to design a game based around the gimmick so that people would perhaps no longer call it a 'gimmick' (in relation to this game anyway) and justify the system's existence. Zelda SS is kinda the same with the waggle, that 'core' games can be wholly controlled by waggle and still be great. But that's coming out so late in the system's life that I wonder if it's too late for 'teh waggle movement.' I have to wonder how the WiiU will play into all this.

Don't get me wrong, Zelda and Mario are looking like fine Zelda and Mario games. Just that, one doesn't persuade me of the benefits of waggle, the other didn't persuade me to fork out for a 3DS.

i finaly got the persona with estoma which makes the game 500% less frustating to play,i should count on average how many times you get attacked per second but it wouldn't surprise me if the estimate is every 3-4

i went to the casino and to my surprise,it moves at a much slower pace than what i remember,it's like these guys couldn't get a single thing right with this port >:(

EDIT: whelp i just installed an autofire plugin,so that the casino can play itself... i guess that settles that :smug

Went to the eurogamer expo today, played a few games. PS Vita had the longest queues, followed by Skyrim and BF3 PC. There was shit load of MW3 kiosks, but I didn't play any.

These are what I played there

Kid Icarus 3DS  Aside from the fact that I'm left handed and the games is clearly designed to be played by right handers, I didn't really feel it. Yeah it's a stylus controlled shooter, but I wasn't really taken by any of it. Only played about 5 mins and then went looking for more interesting games to play.

Super Mario 3D Land  This one is tricky. I kept adjusting the 3D effect on and off to see if it makes an actual difference to the gameplay. I came away undecided. The levels, along with camera placement, gives the illusion of "Hey, this would make more sense if I turned the 3D up, just to have a better understanding of my location and surroundings." I can't deny that the game's chase and isometric camera angles make the 3D worth using, but I don't think it helps with the positioning of mario relative to obstacles. However, it does give a better understanding of what's in the foreground because (purposefully) the isometric and chase cameras make it difficult to know whether you're aligned right with obstacles, especially in 2D. And that's just frustrating. I don't want to have to guess if my positioning in the background aligns with a jump I have to make. Didn't come away THAT impressed. The camera angles make the 3D seem like a nice visual aid but also in turn detracts from gameplay by forcing players to guess positioning and jumps. I have an inkling this is the product Nintendo's gonna show off and say, "This why the 3D makes sense!"

Left the 3DS section. There were no lines, but I forgot to check out Resident Evil, and couldn't be arsed to try Mario Kart.

Zelda Skyward Sword  It's only when you get this in your hands that you realise "OMG, everything is controlled by waggle. Everything  :'(". I played around the bird riding tutorial first. Pretty standard. You twist the wiimote to go left and right, and you have 3 boost pips to speed you up along the bottom. Didn't seem that offensive, but I wouldn't want be in flight mode for long periods of time... gets boring fast. Anyway, tried a short section of the demo dungeon from E3 after that. First of all, the combat. It isn't a step up from any previous Zeldas'. Like previous Zeldas, the combat isn't fun, only this time, you have to swing the wiimote either up and down or right/left to actually get a hit on an enemy. When you fell your first goblin you feel a slight twinge of satisfaction that you wouldn't feel when fighting in any of the other 3D Zeldas', but that quickly dissipates once you realise you can't just mash your way through the boring combat this time. You actually have to wait and swing your wiimote in a specific direction to get a hit, somtimes you have to jab, like with the spiders -- "OMG innovation, only possible with Motion ++++. Ninetendo does it again etc etc." *sigh* Then, I played around with the flying beetle item to hit some high up switches and open some doors. Again, twisting the wiimote and pointing it whichever way I want the beetle to go. It was standard Zelda. How much you like this game is dependant on how tolerant you are of 'teh waggle', because it's literally everything to this game.

Dark Souls  My game of the show (of the games I played). Played it on the 360. Loved it. Not sure what else I can say about this.

Tintin  It was good! A nice 2D platformer. But it's really, really easy. Like babby's first platformer, at least the sections I played. I had fun though, it was really smooth.

Ninja Gaiden 3  It felt like Ninja Gaiden. Which is good. I don't think it'll be as good as either of its predecessors'. Sometimes when you are battling an enemy, a 'Y' QTE comes up on screen, you hit it and Ryu finishes the enemy off. There was an awful (but short, thankfully) stealth section in the demo I played--WTF, please no more of that, it was awful. Also I thought the graphics looked worse than NG2, but that might just be me.

Saint's Row 3 Amazing. If they enabled co-op on the show floor this would've beat Dark Souls' as my game of show. Now it has to settle for a very close second. Everything is ratcheted up to 11 in this game. This is everything SR2 was and more. I literally don't know how this can be made better. The perfect SR game. The perfect GTA game. The perfect open world murder simulator.

Binary Domain  I really dug this. I am this close to saying I 'loved' it. I had played Gears 3 horde mode before trying this but that couldn't hold my interest. Binary Domain on the other hand was FUN. This is a definite 'must watch' title. I don't know if it's close to release, but the game was smoooth.

Halo Anniversary  Played a few multiplayer rounds. It's Halo. It's fun. I will buy.

Rage  360 version on floor. framerate is smooth as butter. Looks great. Plays decently.

I didn't get to play much else (I dabbled in a few minutes of FFXIII-2 and MGS HD Collection -- Snake Eater still looks great!). Wanted to play Skyrim, Batman, BF3, Street Fighter X Tekken, maybe dabble with the Vita but I didn't want to queue up. I'd rate the games I played as follows, calculated in terms of enjoyment observed per minute, EOPM

1. Dark Souls -- must buy
2. Saint's Row 3 -- must buy
3. Binary Domain -- keep a very keen eye on it
4. Halo Annv -- buying
5. Rage -- will probably buy
6. SM3DL -- ain't got a 3DS, ain't persuaded me to get one
7. Ninja Gaiden 3 -- will get at budget price
7. Tintin -- eh, it's fun, can wait on it
8. Zelda SS -- was Zelda, all waggle, will skip unless everyone here raves about it

Oh and I got these awesome Johnny Gat/ Zombie Gat bobble budds

This weekend i'm uh playin:

Kirby Mass Attack - Awesome! Completed the first world, but i've missed a fair few extras already so I may make another pass. Level variety is really good, so it rarely feels like SNORE. While its about as challenging as most Kirby games, the variety keeps every level interesting and new.

Resistance 3 - Fired this up last night- gorgeous game and the gunplay is a lot of fun. Games a bit glitchy though- killed a chimera dude near a door the AI has to access to move the story along. The corpse glitched into the door and no amount of explosive ammo would dislodge it. So the AI dude just kinda stood there and nothing triggered. At any rate, i'll give it another go cause its fun :)

Final Fantasy XIII - A little over 10 hours in- trudging through the corridors.

Hard Reset - Playin this on the new laptop; fun game, but short from what I hear. Good thing it was budget priced!

I'm somewhat ashamed but I've had fun with Blops and Goldeneye Wii last couple days*. I'm shit at Blops but remember the maps from the free weekend on Steam at least. Can't find the proper settings though.

Goldeneye is really dark and I can't find a way to fix it. And every Blops game I join is full of Arabic or horrific English chat. This kid was coming down the stairs and I lit him up and he spent like a minute rating in Arabic over the chat.

I assume this means something sinister.

Apparently I'm a "fucking taco noob" for shooting someone capping our point since I "stole the kill" of this young boy nowhere in sight.

*Mario Kart is the only thing I've ever tried to play online on the Wii before this week.

i've checked the quest in the theaters and there is a lot of new dialogue and character and maybe even enemies,i'm shocked :o,this is a huge jump from the shitty end-game bonus dungeon where they just make a lot of recolors everytime they port a final fantasy

the second quest featured a level 46 enemy right out of the bat which completly murdered me by spamming the shit out of megido :lol

anyway you know what's the most annoying thing of this game? you can't return to previous dungeons,if you miss something,it's lost forever, and the game has TONS of missables

OK, done-r than done in Red Faction: Guerrilla. I thought about picking up the DLC, which is a prequel where you play as Samanya, but after mopping up 36 radio tags, I'm just done. Great game, through and through.

Way too bad they ditched the DESTRUCTIBLE OPEN WORLD for the latest game, which flopped. I'm guessing it had more to do with the budget they were given, than anything else; apparently RF:G took a long time to make.

Started the original Just Cause, you know, just 'cause.  :P

I know it's a 2006 game, and back in the pre-dawn of xbox 360 games, maybe there wasn't a lot of Open World Goodness out there, but there are problems. Mostly there are problems from things I think they were trying to solve, which maybe weren't even problems to begin with.

The camera blur on rotation looks great, but why am I able to do these whip-turn camera moves in a vehicle, but when I'm on foot, no love? Pretty sure, last time I checked, I can change my facing faster on foot than in a car. There's also a major fish-eye effect on the camera whenever in a car, so every time I'm driving or flying or boat... -ing, the vehicle looks absurdly elongated. And I try to tweak the camera a little left or right, like I'm leaning to look for an alternate route, and (blur) WHIZZAM I'm looking 90º from where I was or (blur) WHAZZOW back behind me. Then I get out of the car, and I'm back to lethargo-camera.

Then I called up the map, and thought, Oh, this is going to be a nice, short game. Then I zoomed out. Sweet jujubees, the islands are huge. I feel like I can probably 1000/1000 this, no problem, but I worry that I'm going to get bored of "liberating" villages a hundred times.

currently i'm playing exactly nothing on my 360 so i'm sorry to say it wouldn't exactly be interessing anyway...

i thought of playing culdcept but apparently it's NTSC only, soooo i got the DS version which got fantranslated but then again i was reminded how frustating and stupid it can be at times, one of the thing that puzzles me especialy is that you can see the card of the CPU but only for a split second and you can't see what they do,so if you have an eagle eye and know what card do,you can have an idea what's the CPU is going to do,otherwise you are screwed :yuck

is armored core 4 any good? when i had a psx,i loved the original and i remember the sequel not being that bad either but after that,i just stopped caring...

i might be tempted to go the iconoclast way and get myself something like deathsmiles... achievement and arcade-like games go hand-to-hand

Death Smiles has pretty good achievements, but Cave likes putting one or two achievements into their games that nobody but the most elite superplayers can get (in Death Smiles' case, defeating Bloody Jitterbug). I've got no problem with that though; if you're godlike enough to beat a TLB like that, you deserve an achievement that nobody else is gonna get.

But anyway, DS is a really good game for people who don't play many shooters because the difficulty is extremely customizable. Plus it has story and shit, and great music and art.

Armored Core For Answer is good too. The boss fights are awesome (think of Shadow of the Colossus with mechs).

Yeah, I've got no problem with a game having one or two Achievements which are god-tier. I don't mind that I'll never get them, and I'll ooh and ahh if I ever meet a player who has them, no joke.

Then there are games like Guitar Hero 3, where they decided to up the bitch meter into the red zone. My fake guitar skills aren't stunning, but they're not bad, either. I can play Hard for all but a couple songs on each of the Rock Band games, and Expert for the first two or three difficulty tiers. Even so, I think I had about 180 gamerscore off that before using a truly egregious glitch to milk another 40 or 80 points out of it. I hated that game.

After spending 3+ hours trying to get New Vegas to run again after it stopped working at all for no reason (PCs  :'( ), I finally got it working and finished up Old World Blues.  It was an alright DLC.  Liked exploring the Big Empty, some neat places in there.  The main plot though was really scarce and pretty meh.  Didn't care at all by the ending.  Sorta enjoyable, but my least favorite of the first 3 DLCs even if it's the most content with all the exploration and had some great energy weapons.

Started Lonesome Road.  Seems awesome and more my style of gameplay.  Story is very interesting and locations are nice looking.  Will probably finish this up this week and finally be completely done with New Vegas and ready to move on.

I got a Hori RAP EX-SE the other day, which is a stick with full Seimitsu parts. I've never [knowingly] used a Seimitsu stick before, but after a few days with it, I can tell it's definitely an upgrade from Sanwa for shooters. Sanwa sticks are loose and have lots of throw to them, which makes them good for fighting games, but Seimitsu gates are a little smaller and the stick is tighter, so it gives a better level of control when you need to move pixel by pixel in a shooter, imo. I'm no longer randomly crashing into bullets because I moved further than I actually wanted to, so that alone was worth the $140 it cost.

Anyway, I say this because after a few days with Mushi Futari 1.5 Maniac, I already beat my old score (up to 533m now). I messed up milking the stage 2 boss pretty badly, and stage 4 was horrific, so I think with some more practice I'll be able to hit 600m+ for sure. :D

Finished Fallout New Vegas: Lonesome Road and thus ends the NV experience.  Lonesome Road was pretty solid, though it was more interesting early on when it makes you think it will be some really cool epic adventure that ties into Fallout 1/2 and the old world fallout lore.  Instead imo it just ends up a generic whimper and the dlc is a fun little side story but not the GREAT FINISH that the build up through the other dlcs made it seem like it'd be.

In the end New Vegas was 75% succesful attempt at recreating Fallout 1/2 in Bethesda's shitty F3 engine.  Definitely a cool game, and the DLCs were fun 2.5/4 star varied adventures, but I'd still replay Fallout 1/2 over it any day.  The quality of the characters and scenarios and locations just never quite seemed on the same level.  The strip <<< New Reno by so so much.

And if Bethesda never gives Obsidian another Fallout game, I guess that'll be the last Fallout game I ever play (although I still haven't played Tactics; should play that one of these days).  Probably will skip Fallout 4 if it's made by Bethesda.

More complaints: There's a Political Map, and also a Map. The former shows, in color, which regions have been utterly liberated, which are in unrest, and which are still under government control. The basic gameplay seems to be "liberate settlements," but in truth only settlements in "politically unstable" areas can be Liberated. AFAIK this is not explained in-game.

It is also unclear on the MAP, because all the to-be-liberated settlements have a Side Mission Start just outside them. This was starting to really annoy me as I'd go to a settlement to liberate it, and Joe Castro wants me to go hijack a van instead. "Hey, fuckwit, I just showed up in missile launching helicopter. What are the odds I want to jimmy some cop car's lock? Do you think you and your buddies would like to liberate this town? I'm down, where are your girlfriends?"

It turns out that Story Missions have to be cleared in order to cause unrest in a region, and THEN the settlements can be liberated. Which might be just a tiny bit more clear if the Political Map's colors were used as an overlay on THE MAP.

I also want to kill whatever game designer thinks it's a good idea to let the player's character get into a car which is about to explode. The car's on fire, I'm mashing Y-Button like it's Angelina Jolie's leathery clit sheath, screaming "GET OUT OF THE CAR, JACKASS. IT'S ON FIRE!" and Rico, always one for a flashy leap out of a plane or ready for a tuck and roll when leaping up onto a deck, instead, inexplicably, daintily opens his door and steps out one foot at a time. From a flaming car.

But while I was watching him get out, I must have been mashing the button to try an hurry him up, because he immediately turns around and gets BACK INTO THE CAR. Sorry: back into the flaming car.

Slowly.

I couldn't really get into the first Just Cause and that was even before I played the second game. No way I'd go back now.

whelp since i have it,might as well play it and as such i'm playing batman arkham asylum,i was tempted to restart since the last time i played was like 6 month ago and i only played up to when batman reach the hub zone, but then i remembered the first 10 minutes are all of batman walking around and i really didn't want to see that again

i like the collectibles behind the explosive walls which you can find with super-visions,they kinda look like how i always envisioned how a 3D metroid would work before they fucked it up with prime and then fucked it up more with other m

last thing i did was defeating bane

Just Cause 1 is more impressive when you remember it was a PS2 game that got a cheap-o 360 update like Gun or Far Cry Instincts

compared to JC2, the only thing JC1 does better is more horizontal movement whilst skydiving.  JC3 needs a wingsuit.

not much,i think i finished it around 10 hours, just don't bother too much with the sidequests and you should be fine, the first bunch of quest will be gone forever after you reach the second half of the game but you shouldn't worry too much as there are a lot of them for reaching the 30 quest done achievement anyway

2 thing you should be sure to do before moving to part 2 are

- finish the 2 quest "shopping list" and "a return to shopping" otherwise you permanently miss the garden upgrade

- kill 100 sheep for an achievement, they disappear after you reach the 2nd half

I read u can skip those quests and just buy some guide that allows gardening anyway.

I at least want to watch any story cutscenes that occur.

Also when is a good time to go for sheep achievement?
