I am addicted to Under Defeat. Nice and simple scoring, challenging difficulty, and an awesome soundtrack. Nice graphics too.

I love the theme for stage 5.

Mass Effect 2 DLC

Lair of the Shadow Broker.  Still need to do this as Jodie Foster with a Temper Shepard, but it was pretty great  the first time through as my main male Shepard.  More excited for ME3 now.

Firewalker.  pretty bad.  driving the hovercraft is fun but it's just scanning shit.  and instead if just pressing a button to scan, you hold and wait a few seconds, about ten times, about four or six times.

best part of Shadow Broker was how it poked fun at ME2.  Jacob's dossier is just "he does stomach crunches" and then there's a video of him just doing stomach crunches...because he's the most boring character and the only notable thing about him were his weirdly detailed abs.  Or Miranda's okcupid chats.

trying to 1000 Dead Space is a fucking nightmare, maxing out all the guns is BORING AS FUCK

I'm into my third playthrough now and still have two more whole friggn guns to upgrade.

Replaying the game makes you realise just how fucking abysmal the enemy patterns and designs are. They can pop out anywhere, are hard to see, scream like distinguished mentally-challenged fellows and fire shit at you that you can't dodge. Might try finish it tonight so I can put myself out of my misery. The narrative is a fucking joke too but at least it's not as bad as Dead Space 2's juvenile storytelling. Basically you play these games for the sweet space shit and graphics

Got one cheev left in Tales of Vesperia, the low level one. Need to wrap that one up soon too.

:piss achievement hunting backlog :piss2

Just want Mass Effect 3 right now. Need to play something new

Just cleared the first loop of Under Defeat with 2,658,020 points. The final boss was pretty intense, since I didn't have many resources to deal with everything, but I barely eeked out a win by the skin of my teeth. Feels good. :D

Now I need to work on not sucking.

edit: And I love the New Order arrange soundtrack. Yousuke Yasui is such a boss.

Just rented and popped in R3. Haven't played the previous 2 but heard this one was a pretty fun shooter of last year. Also picked up Catherine and the Sly collection. Hope to beat (and enjoy) R3 quickly and ship it back before starting on the other two (4) games

Finished Medal of Honor, people weren't lying when they said it was short.  :lol

There's no way this is seven to eight hours like the reviews say. I couldn't have spent more than four hours with it, and I died a bunch (from stupid respawning right where you die to die again and again, especially RPGs out of nowhere, before I could really figure out what to do to escape this loop) of times. Didn't really have any memorable moments like coming down the hill in the snowstorm in BC2 other than maybe trying to hold out in that valley. Better guns though. Lighting was pretty at times.

Best part might have been when "Voodoo" walked through a hill instead of going over it like the rest of us. That and the UE3 texture pop-in on that goat.

it looks a lot better than the main game. to be fair I played that on my old graphics card, but still it was mostly maxed out minus dx11 effects.

yeah, jeez, it's close to 4 am.  I forgot how much I liked this game.  It's one of the highest quality and meatiest dlcs I played.  Missing Link or Minerva's Den for Bioshock 2 are the best DLC.  Missing Link is better because I prefer the gameplay, but Minerva's Den was a lot better than the main Bioshock 2 game, so tie or whatever.

I'm gonna play again as robocop.  I went for the 'Factory Zero' achievement (no augs or weapons) for this first playthrough.  At one point I built a rocket launcher and sold it right back to the guy  :gloomy

Played a grab-bag of old games I bought at Play N Trade (all in fantastic condition):

Shatterhand - not sure why this game never became a hit, probably because it came out too late in the NES's life cycle. Really attractive graphics, Konami-ish music, tight control, and very interesting enemy patterns (especially with the bosses) - an enemy who fires at you from a distance will punch you with a melee if you try to get all up in his grill - you just don't see that much on oldskool NES platformers. I totally recommend this game to anyone who likes 8bit platformers but has already exhausted the typical options.

Silpheed - cool game, nice retro polygonal graphics and some strange (but good) music. It's a bit hard to line up your shots correctly since it uses that Axelay style perspective, and the enemy ships are small and move a bit fast... didn't make it too far but it's something I want to spend more time with. When you die the "Game Over" announcer sounds over-the-top queer!

Arcana - pretty run-of-the-mill first person dungeon crawl RPG. Only played a bit of the savedgame currently on the cart. It just runs so slow compared to the original Phantasy Star.

Out of this World - game gets a ton of praise, but it seems to be very sluggish and extremely rigid (almost reminds me of Dragons Lair in a way). The art style and music are great, and I can see how Fumito Ueda was influenced by this game when he made ICO. I will have to play some more, I kept dying in the second level and thus stopped playing.

Syndicate is super fun. The gunplay feels real good and there's a nice satisfying weight to your character. I'm enjoying all the hacking powers as well. It's not terribly complicated but it's just a lot of fun.

Just looped Under Defeat for the first time, finished with 4,476,440 on 2-4. I had one stupid death on 1-3, but I managed to enter the loop with a spare life and a few bombs. I credit fed through the loop once before, but I still wasn't too sure about what to expect, and alas my 2-4 death was on a suicide bullet from the big tank hallway. But I'm still pretty happy with my run - think I'll upload it to my youtube channel. :D

They've talked about Border Down a few times lately. At first, they said if Under Defeat sells well, they will consider porting it. Then, they said that a Border Down port probably won't happen, because if they do something like that they want to go back and remake the game because they still have a lot of ideas for it, unlike Under Defeat. So it's probably not going to happen any time soon.

(It would probably be a retail release as well, since they said their games always sell around 10,000 copies - including Strania, which was a $10 XBLA game. They won't make that mistake again, as seen with Under Defeat.)

About to finish the 4th Layton game (Last Spector).  Haven't talked about it much because I didn't want to jinx it, but I'm really liking this one.  Probably my 2nd favorite behind the 1st Layton unless it falls apart in the last 3 chapters.  Might even be the best of the four but the first will always feel superior because it was something new.

I reaaaaally like the music in this one.  So many good tracks.  Lots of nice fmvs and art is good as always.  The characters and setting/story is great without feeling too ridiculous jumping the shark even with some fantastical elements and the mystery is fun.  Will finish it tomorrow and hope it doesn't jump the shark.  The end of the 3rd game was WOW  :lol  Prior to playing this one, my ranking was 1 > 2 > 3 as I thought they were getting gradually more lolz

WALKING MECHA BASE INFILTRATION MISSION
[close]

I think my only real complaint so far about the 4th game is the pace is very slow and occasionally a bit boring.  But the slower pace allows them to flesh out the setting a bit more so I'm ok with it overall.

Might jump directly into the 5th one afterwards since this one is leaving a real good impression on me and has me in the mood for more Layton.  Normally when I finish a Layton game I don't want to play another one for like 6 months+  Need to watch the movie that bridges 4 & 5 first though.  I've heard it sucks which is a bit of a shame as 90 mins of Layton fmvs would seem pretty sweet.

I want to finish Last Story (contrary to most people around here I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit), but my girlfriend is at my place and she occupies my TV with Tales of Vesperia  :fbm

So, I started Nanashi no Game yesterday night. SE's adventure/visual novel/RPG/horror/whatever game for the DS always striked me as interesting (The Ring in videogame form? Hell, yes), so I decided to give it a shot. Maybe it's just because I was lying in my bed covered in total darkness, but damn... the game freaked me out. The second level, the hospital, is the stuff my nightmares are made off. Apparently. I didn't know until yesterday that hospitals are the stuff my nightmares ae made off, but Nanashi no Game proved it. I'm going to avoid hospitals from now on. It's better for my health.

For some reason I had a sudden urge to play BlazBlue, so I bought Continuum Shift Extend. I didn't play CS2 at all, so I'm having to relearn a lot of stuff since I haven't played in a while. Seems like the game has a ton of content too, especially if you didn't play the previous games.

Not sure who I'll use yet tho... I played Taokaka in BBCT, but they nerfed the combos that made her fun to use in BBCS, so I switched to Ragna. And then when CS2 came out, they nerfed the combos that made him fun to use, so I quit playing. Now Tsubaki seems fun, but I prefer to use normal characters that don't have additional systems, so I dunno. I might just stick with Ragna.

Professor Layton and the Demon's Flute (alternatively The Last Spector)

This was SO GREAT.  I'd kind of felt burned out on Layton by this point after each sequel got progressively less good than the first one.  Didn't expect much out of a prequel, but BOY WAS I WRONG.  Just like MGS3 and BBS, Layton #4 shows that sometimes prequels are the best way out of a burned out series.

The story in this one was very nice.  I really enjoyed all the twists and characters and it had an :uguu pet.  I thought it was cool how they setup an overarching plot arc that will play across this entire prequel trilogy.  Makes the story more interesting than just a single episodic adventure like the first three games since there's continuity.  Also the story of how Luke and Layton met and became traveling buddies makes it even better.  The cameos are generally restrained so when they appear they're good fun.  Really liked all the characters.  Even the dumb thug badguy was not bad outside his MWAHAHAHA laughing fmv.  Probably my favorite story of the four games.  Especially because the presentation is fantastic.  There are a TON of anime fmv movies which are all cool, the music is top-notch and best in the series, and all the art is great as usual for the series.   Good integration of the puzzles into the story as well.  It even has a cool boss fight in multiple puzzle form!

The puzzles aren't worth talking about since they're totally different between the JP/US versions and I don't play Layton for the puzzles.  Some good ones, some really WAAAY too difficult ones (I just wiki that shit), not too many repeats from previous games but a handful.

But what makes Layton to me is the story and it's presentation, they're basically adventure games/visual novels with a hundred and fifty puzzles spread throughout them.  And this one nailed the story and presentation.  Plus there's lots and lots of post-game/optional stuff in the suitcase like the hidden episodes, plays, train stuff.  I'm not even going to bother with the mini-layton-life-rpg because I have other stuff to play.

L5 did a very good job with this game and it really sets the foundation for a great prequel trilogy.  Going to watch the movie next and then jump into Layton #5 on 3DS.

Unlimited Mars mode in BlazBlue is everything that sucks about single player fighting games wrapped up into one magnificently shitty package. God damn. You fight the Unlimited version of each character (ie. super overpowered), and it's pretty much nothing but the most bullshit input-reading (or as the game puts it, "extremely intelligent") AI ever. Garbage.

The rest of the game is good though. Platinum is fun to use, Valkenhayn is fun, Makoto is awesome, and I've never liked Carl so I don't really care for Relius either. Challenge mode is kinda fun, but most of the combos it has you doing are impractical and sub-optimal, so it's kinda pointless unless you like spending time trying to nail hard combos (which I do). Online play is really smooth as usual, but there wasn't many people playing last night (I can only play online from 12am-4pm or so, so maybe that's way).

I guess now I'll try the Abyss mode, which sounds like some RPG type thing where you level up after beating guys or something. I dunno.

I gotta get back to Under Defeat and Daioujou Black Label as well. I'm gonna start doing runs from 2-1 in UD, until I can clear it somewhat consistently, and then I'll start trying to 2-ALL the game. I haven't played DOJ in a while, but I need to play it soon before I start forgetting stuff since I still want to get a better score out of it (700m+ would be nice - right now I have 500).

I've got way too many time consuming games to play.

anyway i guess you could check the movie now bebpo? it's about a girl who apparently suddenly got younger and the plot there is a lot more twisted and interessing than the game that preeced it
the villain is still a stupid doofus though

Yeah, but you hate everything, so that's ok :P

I don't think it matters that you knew it was a robot.  That's not really a twist.  The twist was that the badguy was using old mining machines to smash up and lower the city in a search for a lost golden city and was using the legend and fog machines to disguise what he was doing.  I thought that was a good twist, and I didn't expect that and I liked the story.

The cute lochness monster was not really needed in the plot, but it was cute and I like cute things!  So I was cool with that.

I liked the arcs leading up to the finale too.  Like the story of the brother and sister, the BLACK CROW and the hidden underground market of orphan kids; the trip back to London in the middle; these aren't particularly original ideas, but they were fun stories.  I thought the game took its time (it's the longest of the 4 games for sure) and fleshed out the setting and its characters through the subplots before going into the main mystery at the end.

I don't think the villain was stupid.  He was looking for something that he hoped was in the lost city and made a plan to smash up the city and get away with it.  It wasn't a bad plan and he knows Layton and wears a cape, so he's cool in my book.  I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

Don't have the time, don't care.  What is it anyhow?  Does it have a full rpg storyline?  Or is it just a game to mess around in like animal crossing?

Beat Resistance 3. Not a bad single player. Have no desire to play it through again or try the MP.

there are no stat or combat or plot, the "plot" is basicaly that you transfer to new london and just dick around and buy new clothes and furniture for your house,so yeah it's animal crossing

there are NPC that give you quest and while it's not as random and stupid as animal crossing (BRING THIS ITEM TO THE NPC THAT'S 2 STEPS AWAY) they are still mostly fetch quest, you can earn money by playing job but they are just pretty boring minigame (well at least the first one is it,but i have my doubts the other are better) the only thing i found interessing is that each item of clothing change your stat around like how cool do you look or how classy and this play for certain stuff, for example there is a casino but you can't enter it unless you look classy enough

Got some quests so I have something to do...  instead of raiding the 4 or 5 permutations of dungeons aka mausoleums with like two rooms...

I downloaded it from somewhere I don't remember probably gaf it runs in a Dosbox wrapper and works without trying to type out your fucking memoir in Dosbox like the one you get from the Bethesda website, though I should probably try to get that one working with that XL Engine that makes it look a hell of alot better...
