the carrot in skyrim is exploring, finding new quests, and leveling up your shit. there are a lot of carrots in skyrim. in fact, people like green man and blue tsunami spent the better portion of the early game doing nothing but crafting, they became blacksmiths, basically, until they had the best armor, 100 smithing stat. my carrot is the sense of adventure. on any skyrim session i have, i am sure something random and awesome will happen that will deter me from what i originally set out to do.

i have done tons of crafting too but all that crafting comes from murdering some random animals and doing leather armors and the like and that's boring,if there was a place like a lake full of giant serpents that you could murder for a water armor which let you shoot icicle i would be more than happy with the game

but there is not, there is just a bunch of caves with the same humanoid enemies you have fought since the begin, occasionaly you get some hope when you start a new quest and that quest has a cool premise (evil god make the house go all spooky) then that quest somehow find a way to put you inside a cave again (evil god want you to rescue some guy)

having a big space to explore is pointless if it looks all the same and features the same stuff over and over, leveling up my shit was a decent carrot at the beginning but now at level 37 i already got the perks that double weapon damage and armor defense and i'm not sure how the heck i should spend my remaining points,i have gotten to the point where i see levels as "getting closer to the last level achievement" than an actual reward,it's not like i can even get better stuff cause i seems to understand there is nothing better than ebony barring some other aedric item and the game is already giving me all the ebony stuff it can give

never played them
but i do like dark souls

So you like to grind?

most people envision grinding as doing something repetitive over and over and over, that's the bad type of grinding
but there is the good kind where you just play to watch your character getting stronger, the quicker you can notice the difference, the more awesome it is,this is why disgaea works, because your character levels skyrocket by 100 in a matters of second and then you can notice the difference first hand no problem,as opposed to say... punching a bunch of metal slimes in the face for an hour and then being told that "YOU GOT +1 STRENGHT"

this is also why i like item creation system, you punch a monster in the face and you get a cool new sword for your effort which maybe come with new special attacks which make things easier for you,so you can see a sort of growth different from number getting bigger

You said the thief guild quests are boring, but you're not going into caves with thief guild quests. I like to play assassins and thieves in rpgs, characters who operate from the shadows. Few rpgs make me feel like I'm actually a thief or that I'm role playing one. Skyrim did. On one theif guild mission, I had to slink into a ship boatyard, stow away myself inside a ship without being caught, then make it to a farm and set it ablaze without being seen. How is that anywhere close to going to into a cave and fighting a random minion like you said the games content mostly constitutes being?

You say it's repetitive and the same thing over and over, but you play in the most boring play style imaginable so you're not doing yourself any favors. Mean while, you're scoffing at really creative quests that require different ways to play. It's like someone complaining the sex is droll when they just lay there and don't try to get into it.

It's just curious and makes no sense.

Not that Skyrim isn't repetitive, because it clearly is to some degree like any other rpg. But variety is not Skyrim's problem, especially if you bring in multiple play styles. Complaining about the game and lack of variety while you just hack away at people really isn't going to win you any arguments.

i was complaining about the small jobs himuro, those that you get from vex,all of them boils down to "go to random house and pick item x" and to get to the real reward you have to repeat them several times,it is especialy annoying because you can't warp to vex directly since the thief guild is all hidden and such,i wouldn't even bother if it wasn't for the achievement

and while the thief questline has some flavor in it,it's not like one of the part of it isn't "ehy! there is this guy i want to kill who curiously is hiding in a cave"

i don't think i would have more fun if i sneaked in or use those summon spells,at the end of the day,i'm still killing the same humanoid enemies just doing it in a less efficent way

Started playing Borderlands in local co-op with my bro-in-law. Not happy with vertically split screen, but otherwise it's pretty damned neat.

Is there an official thread here I can read through and possibly necro? I searched for site:thebore.com and "borderlands" and "BROderlands" but didn't find it. I recall there was a LOT of talk about the game here.

Been playing the heck out of Diablo III, which is a surprise as I didn't think I'd fall for it.  Wonderful game.

Also playing the heck out of Kingdom Hearts 3D now that I finished SRW Z2.2.  About halfway through the game.  I can go into detail, and will go into detail about all the pros/cons of it at some point; though only the real KH players would understand since the gameplay/story is so complicated at this point lol.

I'm at the end game of ME3. Apparently needed to switch on some generator in order to proceed further along in Ceberus land but couldn't get back to it last night. Oops. I'll just follow along with a guide tomorrow so I don't do any stupid fuck ups that keep me from moving forward and be done with it. Just go to Earth after this anyway and then I guess I can work on Chaos mode in Orochi 3.

Currently playing Silent Hill Downpour. Just entered Silent Hill. It's pretty average so far.

Not liking the enemy designs and encounters. The graphics are pretty meh too.

There is a small pcb behind power button, maybe it lost connection.Remove front cover and try to press it if you can---if not, remove plastic casing,no need to open metal casing. It is plugged into little wider than usb port, with few holding screws.

The board is responsible for wireless controllers/power so if its not seated properly controllers won't work/sync.

here,just try this

Started playing some Company of Heroes and I'm sure I'm taking it way too cautiously. Currently on the first mission where you can start base building, and god knows how long I've taken to crawl to around halfway up the map. I know I should be moving up more aggressively but there's a constant stream of kraut running into my guns so I can't bring myself to shift any of them. Definitely enjoying it but I bet I'd get my ass handed to me if I tried playing against a human opponent. Best moment so far is having an infantry squad pinned down and then running a sherman through a wall next to the attackers to save the day. Surprise, motherfuckers!

No, the controller never actually syncs. When I try to sync it the console's green rings circle for a bit before not lighting up a single spot, while the controller will then blink until I either take out the batteries or turn the Xbox off. The only thing I can do with the controller is turn the unit on, and yeah of course I've changed the batteries a bunch of times.

I'll try maxy's thing later.

Tombs and Treasure on the NES. I owned the game as a kid (my first J-ADV ever, or maybe Shadowgate was?) but never made it very far. Unbeknownst to me, this was the first Falcom game I ever played (second being of course, Legacy of the Wizard).

It's so weird that this was released in the US by Activision (under the Infocom label). Imagine nowadays Activision releasing a Trails game in the US?

Thanks for having a peek around, guys. I think it was called "BROderlands" or something but, yeah, I looked around a bunch and it is nowhere to be found. Rats.

Well, the game is plenty fun, and pretty.

I haven't played an FPS in a long, long while. It's kind of fun, but it isn't as immersive as I remember them being. Maybe I've become accustomed to third-person gaming, but mainly I feel like I have NO peripheral vision and lowered situational awareness.

It doesn't help that the game pops to third-person for vehicle sections. HALO handled it identically, except HALO's driving controls were better. I know these are probably more intuitive, more keeping with the "left hand moves, right hand looks" control model, but I can't seem to get used to it to save my life.

It's also surprising how much damage roadkill attacks do. I was unloading rockets and machine-gun fire into guys while they destroyed my car. Finally I just drove into one and, SPLAT, problem solved.

I also noticed the game will give some missions before the player is able to take them on. I have on thing in Lost Caves or Crystal Mines or something, where it starts with some giant purple crabs which are not affected by any of my weapons, and kill me super fast. I am guessing that I need Acid weapons to deal damage to armored foes.

I'd like to get 300m with Type B as well, and I want to go back and improve my Type A score because I screwed lots of stuff up, but I'm just playing way too many games at the moment (plus Mushi HD is out in a couple days...). I should really focus on getting over 1 billion in DOJBL. I've been playing that damn game for what feels like forever.

That is really weird about the Borederlands thread. I can't find it either. Maybe it was started by someone who's account was nuked. I remember posting in it. *shrugs*

since there isn't a lot of weeabooism to do on 360,i've been trying to dig out stuff from japanese indie games and other obscure sources (like saturn) but to be fair there doesn't seems to be a lot of stuff, just a bunch of touhou games and an endless horde of fighting games
this madoka game tough looks neat

that has to be the explanation. Threads do not simply disappear!

going for the 1000 involve finishing the game four times (officialy you only need three runs but it's better to do four runs for reason explained below) the game isn't really long,i think it tops at 3-4 hours at best and even less on replays (1 hour/1 hour and half?) if you skip all the cutscenes (there are A LOT of cutscenes)

here's how it works

spoiler (click to show/hide)
- there's a bunch of miscellaneous achievements like "kill 50 enemies using X attack" and "do this thing in this stage" these will all pop out naturaly by playing the game
- then you get an achievement for finishing all the stages on normal with an S rank, getting S isn't hard but it can take a while and there is an even better easy way to do it
- after finishing normal you get a special mode where you can't see your health bar
- finish the whole game under this mode to get another achievement popping out
- if you got at least 10 S you get a special mode where you take triple damage, finish the game under this mode (put it on easy because this actualy makes the game hard, playing it on easy with this mode is actualy harder than playing the game on hard with your normal health bar :lol) to make another achievement
- finishing the game with the triple damage mode unlock a mode where you have unlimited special bars, this makes getting S ranks piss easy so you can abuse this mode to...
- get S rank on all the stages on hard, you can also use this mode to get any S you missed on your first play of normal (or second if you use normal to finish the game under the "invisible health bar" mode) i guess if you are good at the game, you can try to cut a replay by playing invisible mode on hard,or playing your first run on hard and then invisible mode on normal

oh and before you ask,you get ranked on the following thing

- damage done
- time took to finish the stage
- number of QTE you didn't fuck up

QTE usualy give a fair warning so there aren't a lot of chance to fuck up,even if you fuck up most stage still give you an S even if you fuck up one or two QTE
