Yeah Koizumi needs to do Zelda again PRONTO.

I'm playing Symphony of the Night again. Still GOAT status omg even though it's kinda bad in some ways?

We need a good castlevania again. Not this lord of darkness crap.

The best part about SOTN was that it had a secret ending that was half the game.

I'm playing Halo 4 and hating it. I really hate it's matchmaking system. Playing just CTF basically means you have no choice to play a small version of it on basically 1 map. I already want to get rid of it ,because of how much it pisses me off.

Finally got around to the copy of Alpha Protocol I got from Newegg for $5 last year. Great game, liked how the dialogue reacted to your choices. Flawed in some ways, but I didn't mind them.

I really want to play SOTN now.

i didn't want to further shit up the gaf shit thread, but challenge was important to me in XIII-2 for any of the changes they made to be meaningful.  They added a bunch of extra substance to the game, but made the fights so easy that it bored me to tears.  Most people who've played it comment that it's too easy.  And for a game with characters + story + presentation like that, I need good reason to play it.

SOTN is good ol action RPG compulsion, challenge isn't as important.  :smug

I really want to get Chivalry, but I think I'll wait until the Christmas sale. Too many other games to play right now, anyway.
It was worth it. Game is just fun in a really simple, visceral way. I have some complaints, but for an indie game project its pretty fuckin awesome. Graphics especially look great, even with my old ass GT240M  :(

I want Chivalry also. I picked up CS:GO and been on NS2 but Chivalry looks really unique (War of Roses seems deeper but not as fun). Want to chop some heads with a Zweihander.

Picked up Civ: Gods and Kings, Hotline Miami, Dead Island, SimCity IV, AwesomeNauts and Legend of Grimrock in the sale. Haven't really read anything about Legend of Grimrock, but it looks good

Hotline Miami is badass, mouse+kb top down takes a little getting used to though. When things get tight I always lose tracks of the cursor, could def do with something that stands out a little more against the background. Started up Legend of Grimrock also, 2 Minotaur fighters up front with a Rogue Lizard and Insectoid Mage in back

Finished up Hotline Miami, completed the puzzle and got all the masks. Playing The Last Story, now up to chapter 30. Seems like it's picking up a bit but I find the game crappy still, with shitty camera angles, a low framerate, and bad blurry graphics.

Also played a bit of Apple Jack 2, sequel to one of my favorite XBLA Indies. The sequel has some pretty damn good level design and feels extremely polished as far as indie platformers go. Graphics look a bit prettier than the first game, though the music seems identical so far. Comes HIGHLY recommended, especially if you are a fan of Doki Doki Panic/Mario 2 USA. It's only $1.

Alan Wake

On the last episode.  Will update tomorrow after I finish the game.  Game definitely got better as it went along.  The first 2 1/2 chapters are repetitive boring run through the woods by yourself shooting the same enemies over and over.  They are also really freaking long.  Then at least the game starts throwing you more interesting environments, solid set pieces, npcs for witty talk banter, and the story actually starts moving and being an "alright" tale (for videogame standards) and the action, though repetitive, gets more intense set pieces and gets a little more exciting.  I'd say Ch.4/5 were a decent B- western RE4 clone.  If Ch.6 is as good, it'll end up being an ok game.  Not great, but not dreck or anything.  All the game really needs is to be less linear (so much of game is running down corridor environments), aka actual level design with dungeons, have more than 4 enemy types and more weapon types and maybe some real puzzles; oh and the chapters could be shorter for sure.

I reaaaally had to force myself to keep playing in those first 3-4 hours though.  Game drags hard at the start.  I think after I finish the main game I'm gonna concentrate on finishing up YsIVr and then do the Alan Wake DLC chapters & Expansion pack after.  If the main game is about 10 hours running as much as possible, how long are the DLC episodes & American Nightmare doing the same?

Dead Island is a lot less fun in the second Act. The environment is dull, there's lots of clunky shooting, and the new enemy types are annoying.

I loved Fighting Vipers as a kid. I'll need to get that some day and see if it's still fun.

VF2 is great as well, but I don't think I'd play it much when VF5FS exists. Same goes for Virtual-On, though I'm sure hardcore fans of the series appreciate having all of the games on one console /w good online play. edit: Besides VO Marz, apparently. I think that's the one that nobody likes, but I don't know shit about VO so whatever.

Alan Wake ending was pretty dumb and The Signal (DLC1) was a waste of time running through the same environments with a few neat ideas.  Doubt DLC2 will be much better but at least it's almost over.

5-6 hours apparently. And yeah, it's free.

The writing is so fucking hysterical, the story is told with a such a deadpan seriousness. I have literally lol'ed at least like ten times while playing it. It's genius.

Probably the nuttiest thing about the game is Space Jam is purported to have actually happened in the games storyline and the movie plays a role in the plot of the game. It's insane.

Would have preferred a PC port but this is ok.

Definitely my favorite game for most of last year; I think I played it for about half of it (the year), including a number of crazy sessions with Sceneman. It was just super good, and it ameliorated my homesickness for a bit.

Alan Wake - The Writer (DLC#2)

Much better than The Signal which was stupid and just re-use of assets.  This actually had some interesting level design, and the story was substantial.  Kind of annoyed that the ending just sets up a sequel that's never going to happen, but otherwise it was an ok ending for the main game.  It really should have been part of the main game I think; would've helped the final chapters.

I'm pretty torn on the game as a whole.  It looks nice, but lacks variety in environments.  At times the combat makes for a fun RE4-wannabe action game, but the lack of enemy types and weapons just make it very repetitive.  The story is sort of fun, but it's also pretty dull and never goes anywhere interesting.

At times I enjoyed it, at times I was bored.  It's very a borderline average game that straddles the good/bad game line.  As a survival horror fan it's a little disappointing because it's really not survival horror and just is straight up a Gears of War/RE4 action game.  I think the problem is that they put too much focus on the story (which wasn't good) and not enough development focus on the combat (which was solid).  Since I hear American Nightmare is more gameplay/combat/fun focused and less story, I can see how that could be better.  Going to take a break from the franchise for a little so I don't get burned out and then will play American Nightmare next year.

American Nightmare is a para-sequel of sorts. Worth playing.

I just murdered most of the key NPCs in Caesars Legion in Fallout New Vegas. That was lots of fun. Started on the Dead Money expansion which is HOT SHIT so far. Definitely the best DLC so far flavor wise. I didn't really like Honest Hearts and Old World Blues was good but all the characters pissed me off. Dead Money has Dean Domino who is the man!

FTL

is pretty cool. I like how I feel smart because I start to understand the mechanics more as things are happening.

"Oh, I man one of the stations to increase it's effectiveness."
"Oh, when a room is low in oxygen i have to open the surrounding doors to even out the oxygen levels."
"Oh, when I'm boarded I can open the airlocks to kill the intruder."
"Oh, my missiles are limited, shit."
"Oh, fuel is limited.... shit!"
"Well, I guess I just wait here."
"Well... I'm dead"

nat
