Alan Wake
On the last episode. Will update tomorrow after I finish the game. Game definitely got better as it went along. The first 2 1/2 chapters are repetitive boring run through the woods by yourself shooting the same enemies over and over. They are also really freaking long. Then at least the game starts throwing you more interesting environments, solid set pieces, npcs for witty talk banter, and the story actually starts moving and being an "alright" tale (for videogame standards) and the action, though repetitive, gets more intense set pieces and gets a little more exciting. I'd say Ch.4/5 were a decent B- western RE4 clone. If Ch.6 is as good, it'll end up being an ok game. Not great, but not dreck or anything. All the game really needs is to be less linear (so much of game is running down corridor environments), aka actual level design with dungeons, have more than 4 enemy types and more weapon types and maybe some real puzzles; oh and the chapters could be shorter for sure.
I reaaaally had to force myself to keep playing in those first 3-4 hours though. Game drags hard at the start. I think after I finish the main game I'm gonna concentrate on finishing up YsIVr and then do the Alan Wake DLC chapters & Expansion pack after. If the main game is about 10 hours running as much as possible, how long are the DLC episodes & American Nightmare doing the same?
