I grew to love it over the course of Arkham City; I played through all of Asylum as a button masher. I am looking forward to replaying Asylum now that I can Gold Medal the combat challenges.

i was like that but it wasn't getting me much (since i wanted some achievements) and then i started to get the hang of it (still not there as yet).

the feeling of being in that zone where you defeated 10 or more the enemies on a long ass freeflow combo and without being touched is damn awesome.

I heard they tweaked it a bit in Arkham City supposedly but no matter as i'm now hyped for City when i get around to it.

lol, not even close dode. You can finish 1 in at least 25 hrs. There's even two "paths" you can take -- one of which is "easy mode" the other requires some work. Almost like 2 different games. Secret characters, you get to choose what characters to use... they use actual guns and shit. Better than twee drama P3 and 4.

Also Persona 2 introduces the "shadows" that 4 seems to have made popular. Even that wasn't original ;)

Just made it to Rise's dungeon. I still prefer the atmosphere and the social links in 3 (obviously 4 has much better gameplay, and seems to be a good deal easier with dungeon progress being saved floor-by-floor) but 4 seems like it's starting to pick up a bit.

Nearly finished with 999, in the middle of the True Ending... it's a whole lotta text.

Also close to being done w/ Persona 4 Golden - solved the murders fought the boss, on track for the true ending so there's still some stuff to do.

Trying to beat the new XCOM on Classic.  It's a matter of getting a foothold early on.

now I'm kinda regretting not getting Innocent Sin when it was on sale a few weeks ago.  i had to mute P4 and P3 got too easy to finish and there was some beach scene where teenage boys were hitting on girls and i was like what am i doing with my life

I'm about 2/3'rds the way through FFXIII-2 now. The story is getting pretty good but man is it easy to over-level in this game (or the game is just easy?) I'm 5 starring boss fights with no trouble and I didn't grind or anything. Hm. I'm looking forward to the post game and collecting all dem Fragments.

Also playing this has spoiled the whole FFXIII story for me so I may just skip playing that and wait for Lightning Returns.

Post game bosses will wipe the floor with your party. You better be prepared.

I already have all my key roles at level 99 and some huge monsters. You talking to a dude that finished the postgame in Etrian Odyssey son

Mark of the Ninja is pretty goooood. Super tight gameplay. It's almost hard to play because I'm trying to compensate for maneuvers I don't think I can pull off only to find out I totally can.

finally beat Arkham Asylum today.  I had put it in the greenhouse and then got a new computer so I lost the old saves.  Having to backtrack didn't really excite me so I just let it linger for a bit.  Was oddly in the mood for it yesterday and so I basically beat it in two sittings.  Pretty fun, but I found myself relying too much on "detective mode" at times

Don't listen to Demi. Persona 1 sucks. Start with Persona 2 IS if you beat it and like it, play Persona 2 EP for psx or if you want a change of pace then Persona 3.

Persona is a grindan adventure without much merit in the way of dungeon design, is a grindan slog, blah story, meh combat system (on psx it is slow as shit). It's pretty much a spiritual sequel to Shin Megami Tensei If in terms of gameplay and is chained to snes era SMT. It wasn't great a decade ago (played it in 2002) and it's not great now. Game is straight garbage.

Now, Persona 2: IS, is probably the best old school Persona with EP giving it a run for its money.

There is nothing wrong with P3/P4 style. Demi is just being a poof about purity aka he is an elitist.

They won't. Here why: they've done P3/4 style for two games now. Including slinks and stuff will be overdone breh. Atlus keeps us on our toes by switching it up. You need to BELIEVE, breh.

$10 says it's teen pop stuff again. Complete with awkward western music genre mash-ups, vector art, and dating sim.

Persona has always had a teen pop motif dating back to P2. It has had western music genre mash ups, and vector art dating back as far as P1. Nice try!

As for the simulation element, it probably won't have that at all as it is overdone. If it does have sim elements expect it to be extremely revamped or more subdued ala Catherine.

Your post is basically,"I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT" and here's why:

Inspired from MAF's gaming marathon, I decided to dust off the 3DS and get cracking:

NSMB2 - Got all star coins through the flower world, need the coins through worlds 5 and 6.  I like this game.  Yeah, it's easy but let's be honest, there has never been a difficult Mario game.  Some parts of Galaxy 2 were a challenge as were getting some of the special stages unlocked in Mario World but that's it.  I like this game and hope to get it wrapped up relatively soon.  No way in hell am I going to get one million coins unless there were some way that I could play through a stage that let me rack up tens of thousands of coins per try.

Starfox 64 3D - Holy shit, this game left me cold.  I was a huge cigarillo for this game back in the N64 days.  I mastered that game, got about the highest scores anyone could on these stages, and never got tired of it.  Here?  Couldn't care less.  The 3D effects look goofy and distracting so I took the slider down to zero, another strike against it.  Might play all of the stages just to get a nostalgic thrill from it and that is it.

Super Mario 3D Land - Going to play more of this tonight while Netflix is running on the TV for background noise :hyper

On the go:

Super Mario 3D Land - World 8 is when the game stops being snore worthy. Pretty good right now.

Samurai Warriors Chronicles - Hack and slashing, rts strategizing goodness. Only play it at work now during down times, but the game is great for that. Most fun I've had with a 3ds game.

Crimson Shroud - This game is good for toilet sessions. I'm not far, but it's easily the most refreshing rpg I've played in a long time. Being Matsuno, I'm a huge mark for it.

At home:

Sims 3 Supernatural/Seasons - Seasons/Supernatural really open the game up and give it back the old Sims 2 level of fun that The Sims ought to strive for. I've clocked near 100 hours and the past few have easily been the funnest for me.

Samurai Warriors 2 XL - Still going through this game on my 360 when I get the chance. I'm currently on the last stage of Oda Nobunaga's campaign. Game is straight baller and I have no clue how anyone thinks Dynasty Warriors 7 is better than this from gameplay standpoint. The only thing DW7 has over this is presentation and story (which is also a part of the presentation).

I got the million coins, but that's because coin rush is the fastest way to do it and Japan is flush with Streetpasses.  I could easily get 30k coins in one go, even before they added that free level pack which pretty much guarantees at least 30k and up to 60k.

Also, there is one hard Mario game: SMB2/Lost Levels.

I remember the first time i played this game and got excited when i saw the new mushroom, then i died  :-\

Playing Darksiders 2. Its been entertaining in a weird way. Way too many meaningless dungeons though. Should've focused that energy on making fewer but higher quality dungeons.

But should I even keep playing Darksiders 2? I'm mid-way through the dead world, and while its entertaining, I keep losing interest. Is the 3rd world any better and this is just the midgame doldrums, or is this a gradual decline in quality going on here?

Mark of the Ninja is so fucking cool. Mechanics are nearly perfect and you always feel in control.

I also LOVE the way it surfaces all the information regarding how stealthy you are. Noise levels radiate out like little pings, it has a cool fog of war effect where it greys out passed your line of sight so you have to peak out beyond ledges and stuff to get a glimpse if there's a dude beyond. You know instantly if you've been heard because a yellow sound ping emits from the spot where a guard hear you. The simple act of making your character silhouetted when you're stealth is genius.

Up and down this game has some of the smartest design I've seen in a while.

Ah, I knew there was something that made it easy to get a million coins.  You'd spend hundreds of hours grindan otherwise.  That doesn't seem like something Nintendo would do.

Also, there is one hard Mario game: SMB2/Lost Levels.  It being easy isn't why NSMB2 left me cold, though.  For me, it was a combination of weak level design and how much it recycles.  NSMB Wii felt like an awesome Mega Man game.  2 feels like a crappy Mega Man game.

Good point, I didn't even think of SMB2/Lost Levels.

Sorry you feel that way about NSMB2.  I'm not going to say it is an amazing game or anything.  It is a solid B- effort from Nintendo.  For some reason, I've always found B/C level games endearing.  AAA+ titles (Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, etc.) rarely interest me.

Quote
Super Mario 3D Land - World 8 is when the game stops being snore worthy. Pretty good right now.

I got all of the golden flags and star coins for the first six worlds.  The thing that bugs me the most about that game is that you pretty much only need the Tanooki suit.  The other powerups seem like novelties.  You definitely need the Tanooki suit to get the golden flags with relative ease.  Also the diorama feel of the game resulted in several cheap deaths for me.  Fortunately they don't skimp on the 1up collecting opportunities.

Beat SM3d Land and doing post-game. It's already better. The first level of post-game introduces a new Tanooki suit (turns to stone if you butt stomp) and even poison mushrooms. Final level of SM3D Land is pretty great all things considered. It is easily the best looking thing I've seen on my 3ds and with the 3d effect on, it was the first time I was impressed by 3ds' use of 3d. Very impressive tech in that stage and really reminded me of Galaxy.

The stages in post-game are reminding me of Galaxy level variety already. The second stage has you being chased by a poison/dark version of Mario and you die if you get hit. Hopefully it keeps this up. Why Galaxy is my favorite Mario is that every stage switches it up. I hope the post-game continues to maintain this variety.

kind of digging The Secret World.  It's really unfair to base an MMO on the first hours of content, but I like the setting and the mechanics are nice.  Good extension of the Conan system while moving into its own unique sphere.  Unfortunately, this means that builds are kind of hard to suss out on your own, but thankfully there are plenty of guides out there for that sort of thing

awesome, bought and started like a jillion games in the past two weeks and most of them are jillion hour RPGs.   On the plus side, I got most of the important PC games from the last 5 years for about the price of a little over one new console game thanks to the steam sale.   I think steam sale bitching comes from people who did the same thing in the years leading up to this year.  So, I get to join the bitching about steam sales master race, phase 2 of gaming PC ownership.

Just no miss'd Original mode in Mushihimesama. I spent a couple days practicing the stages in training mode, and I got a 'perfect run' in my first credit of score attack. For some reason I was super nervous at the final boss, probably more than I ever was when playing God Mode. :lol

It's an easy game with no scoring system to speak of, so I doubt I'll ever try to beat my score. Guess I'll upload my replay.

there's also gzdoom.  Main difference I noticed (once you turn off the blurry smoothing in gzdoom) is that gzdoom doesn't have distortion when you look up and down.  So, I think gzdoom is like eduke32 where it adds an opengl opinion.

also, if you have duke nukem 3d, eduke32 is to that game as g/zdoom is to doom.

why am i playing XIII-2...why am i enjoying it

the opening was incredibly cheesy Advent Children style fighting (and why are they show HP damage floaters during a QTE) but it's been pretty good since.   I was totally lost at first with the Lightning stuff but then they explained it...I didn't understand XIII's ending worth a squat, so that helped.  Still awaiting the explanation of why Lightning talks the way she does though.

i got bored last time because it was too easy, we'll see what happens.

ANOTHER GAME SUCCESSFULLY STARTED.

Time to start Borderlands 2 after dinner.

why am i playing XIII-2...why am i enjoying it

the opening was incredibly cheesy Advent Children style fighting (and why are they show HP damage floaters during a QTE) but it's been pretty good since.

I just beat FFXIII-2 last night. Amazing game, heaps of fun. Just working on collecting all the fragments and viewing the alternate endings now. Beat all the post-game bosses in the Steppe too. Long Gui almost got me as the fight dragged on awhile and I didn't pack any wound potions but I took him down in the end and also got the 99,999 damage in one attack cheev  8) Pretty close to my 1000/1000 now.

I think I'll grab a copy of FFXIII as it's dirt cheap and I enjoyed this shiz so much and I'm keen to get to know the old characters better. :heartbeat Hope :heartbeat he is so adorable I simply want to adopt him. Also Alyssa is mai waifu and I have changed my avatar to reflect that.

Basically the battle system is fun as hell and the fights are really pretty to look at. I know the gameplay is wafer thin in reality and fights boil down to : debuff/buff > attack > heal > attack > debuff and so on but it's still really fun

Playing Battlefield 3 on PS3. It's amazing how much the on disc maps sucked compared to the DLC ones.

XIII-2's soundtrack was the best of the year.
