did you guys get the DLC for XIII-2?   really sucks that it isn't a full monster arena...should be mandatory in every RPG.

I've been house sitting over xmas and new years and playing on offline xboxen so no dlc for me. I dont think it's too expensive either but I would read some reviews first.

Although: Additional Downloadable Content is something reasonably new at gaming. You can purchase additional stuff from PSN or XboxLive to make your gaming experience more fun and pimped up.

FFXIII is a good deal more challenging than XIII-2, but overall I liked 2 much much more. I was really surprised how good it turned out, it's probably my favorite FF-related title in a long while (excepting maybe Theatrhythm b/c I'm a nostalgia whore).

So I'm up to the boss of Rise's dungeon now in P4. Game is still awesome, after maxing Chie's SLink I think I'm gonna go for that golddigger girl next :P

I got the Lightning DLC and it's terrible. You replay the same battle over and over until you beat it.

lol yeah I went for Chie first in P4. The game implied that MC porked her but who knows.

I just grabbed a cheap copy of FFXIII oh yes can't wait for tough moms. The guy behind the counter at Gameplop was waaaay to excited about their loyalty scheme, as well as the fact you can play PS1 Final Fantasies on Vita...

The game is pretty awesome in the intro.  Then it gets really repetitive/boring and then 30 hours later finally opens up a little bit but in return the story gets worse and worse and is totally nonsense by the ending.

finally beat Arkham Asylum today.  I had put it in the greenhouse and then got a new computer so I lost the old saves.  Having to backtrack didn't really excite me so I just let it linger for a bit.  Was oddly in the mood for it yesterday and so I basically beat it in two sittings.  Pretty fun, but I found myself relying too much on "detective mode" at times
The Art Director said in his GDC speech that the Detective Mode was over-powered in Asylum, so they toned it way back in Arkham City to make sur players didn't just stay in Italy the time.

I grew to love it over the course of Arkham City; I played through all of Asylum as a button masher. I am looking forward to replaying Asylum now that I can Gold Medal the combat challenges.

i was like that but it wasn't getting me much (since i wanted some achievements) and then i started to get the hang of it (still not there as yet).

the feeling of being in that zone where you defeated 10 or more the enemies on a long ass freeflow combo and without being touched is damn awesome.

I heard they tweaked it a bit in Arkham City supposedly but no matter as i'm now hyped for City when i get around to it.

It's a bit different, and there are was something having to do with Freeflow that they changed for B:AC, and apparently the "all moves combo" is way easier in Asylum than City.

It's a fun little time-waster.  If you take away all the jokes and retro-references, it's a top-down GTA1/2 style-action game that plays pretty well for the most part.

FF13 is this gif.

It lifts you up thinking it'll have some potential, but by the time you hit the climax it has its balls gyrating against your skull until it plants you face first on the pavement.

FF13 takes like 25 hours to get good and allow the player a modicum of freedom. And when it gets good it's not even a great good compounded by the fact that exploration (of pulse) is fucking busywork. Still, the battle system is really good and enough to save the game. If not for that battle system it would have been straight turd. Instead, it's a fun ass game with shit pacing, shit story, shit characters, with a pretty great battle system that burns out ways into the game. So it barely achieves mediocrity.

the freedom in ff13 is a lie. it's one damn open map with jack shit in it except triggers for boss fights (that arent even hidden) and it's connected to a bunch more hallways. it feels exactly like the first half of the game except there's no story this time.

Put together my 2012 top10.  Some are pre-2012 games, but whatever, deal with it.  First year where the indie games took the top spots, but I didn't play that much this year and a lot of what I did play was mehish:

1. Escape Goat
2. Hotline Miami
3. Super Robot Wars Z2: Saisei-Hen / Diablo III
4. Saints Row 3
5. Sleeping Dogs
6. Noitu Love 2
7. Time Travelers
8. Journey
9. Botanicula
10. Professor Layton 4

Yea i'm guilty of living in Detective mode too even after knowing about it before going in. It even got to a point where i forgot what the riddler trophies really looked like as i got used to seeing them in that brown color  :lol.

Plus i think its broken in the story itself since i'm here tracking a dude based off the alcohol fumes that came off his breath.

Interesting that the FreeFlow Perfection stuff is harder in City since i thought it was kinda annoying in Arkham

It gets a lot better once you finally reach the city, then it drags for a while, then it gets good again heading into the ending. You really come to hate the swamp that shows up in the middle half of the game, I guarantee it.

Anyway, I still have that new copy of Dark Souls I got for 6 dollars sitting here. I know it was supposed to be just a spiritual successor or whatever to Demon's Souls; does it matter which I play first?

Lightning in the Monastery level in Uncharted (especially going thru the tombs) is out of this world. How can this game look so good? Graphically it destroys Gears of War 1 from the same year.

But please don't tell me this game goes into the unnatural territory with some weird fantasy beasties :'( I think I saw one in the Vault level already. I want to shoot more colour people :(

i'm gonna tell you it does anyway.

Super Mario 3D Land - World 8 is when the game stops being snore worthy. Pretty good right now.

I got all of the golden flags and star coins for the first six worlds.  The thing that bugs me the most about that game is that you pretty much only need the Tanooki suit.  The other powerups seem like novelties.  You definitely need the Tanooki suit to get the golden flags with relative ease.  Also the diorama feel of the game resulted in several cheap deaths for me.  Fortunately they don't skimp on the 1up collecting opportunities.

Update: Got all star coins and all golden flags up through the 2nd Special World except for the very last star coin at the last stage of the regular game.  For some reason I can never time the jump between the fireballs while keeping on the ride.  It's been killing me, I even got the white and gold tanooki suit of shame :(

The special worlds are a bit better but I wouldn't say they were Galaxy quality.  It just reminds me of another take of the Sunshine side levels.  Still a damn fine game though.

Edit: I'm going through Special World 4 and holy fuck, this game is starting to bite back.  Hard.  Still have about 190 lives.  At this point, I can hardly get anywhere unless I'm Tanooki Suit Luigi.

I thought Mario 3D land was a bit bland. It's an okayish game, but as someone mentioned all you need is the racoon suit. Also, why does Nintendo reward you with an invinciable suit if you die enough? I noticed this in the latest mario games.

3d land is boring as fuck until the post game. The post game is the real game. And special worlds rarely give you the tanooki suit.

Yes, but it's ultimately repetitive. You encounter ruiins that have been abandoned for centuries only to have guys stuffing bullets up your ass. Everywhere you go you end up in a boring firefight with the same type of enemy units. Shit ends up played out. Exploring ruiins? Let's throw an explodable barrel in here. Makes sense!

Play Uncharted 2 now :bow

In Uncha 2, the climbing, shooting, and exploration is mixed so well that the shooting feels like it blends in with the rest of the game flow. Uncha 1 is a straight shooter.

Finished Rock Band Blitz to full gamerscore; getting Gold Stars on all 25 Blitz-specific songs was a bitch. I am probably never going to play Bang Your Head or Cult of Personality in Blitz ever again.

Started playing Rock of Ages, and I am surprised how fun such a simple concept can be. The cutscenes and sound effects are wonderful; it feels like an old Terry Gilliam animated short from Flying Circus.

Finding myself not willing to start a major, big, full retail game right now. I think it's because I know how much time it may take up, and how much other stuff I could be spending my time doing.

Finished Special World 8 except for the final stage, which you need to five star the game to unlock.  According to the activity log, I logged in 10 hours and 30 minutes.  I do intend to five star the game - I need to get all of the golden flags, which there are a few left I need to snag.  So the overall length is probably like 11-12 hours.  Hopefully I can get the game wrapped up in its entirety tomorrow.

Overall I really liked this game.  I'd almost consider it a classic and something I can see myself replaying again some day.  The special worlds get pretty nuts after a while.  You always got to keep moving, even with Shadow Mario/Luigi on your ass while fighting against a 30 second time limit.  Almost all of the stages in the last couple of worlds had at least one of those attributes.  However, everything is tough but ultimately doable and the levels are designed well enough to where if you screw up, it is pretty easy to figure out how to get past the obstacle/enemy/whatever.  There is some trial and error involved but some stages I completed by sheer dumb luck it seemed.  Also I finished the game with 455 lives :lol

The next 3DS game I'm probably going to play is Samurai Warriors.
