I no miss'd Hard Corps: Uprising with Bahamut. It wasn't a very clean run; I got hit a few times by some stupid stuff and I accidentally picked up some weapons I didn't want, but you know, shit happens.

I hope ASW gets to make a sequel some day. Ideally, it should have better pacing (both autoscroll stages are dull; several sections of the game drag on for too long), better weapon balance (everything is overpowered lol), less 1ups (how about 3, instead of 30), a scoring system that isn't completely broken, and autofire (why doesn't this game have autofire god damn). But even with all of those flaws, HCU is a lot of fun to play because the mechanics and controls are so good.  I'd love to see another run and gun that has sprinting, dashing/air-dashing, tackles, bullet reflection, wall running, vaulting/evasion, "ambush shot", double jumps, or any combination thereof.

I also bought the Leviathan DLC character. It seems like he was made for expert players who want to do some stylish speed running. He has a few special abilities (a slide, backflip, and grenades) and he's a lightweight, so he runs faster, jumps higher, and dashes further than anyone else. The major downside to that is how he only has a single bar of health and one weapon slot, so you're really not given any breathing room whatsoever. He is fun to use tho.

Just got to act 3 of vanquish. It took a while but the controls are starting to click for me now and I'm having some fun. Almost gave up after the 1st boss fight and dying a couple times. I'm probably just not that great at action videogames, so I brought the difficulty down a level and alls been good

Pandemic

Pandemic is a co-operative board game, that's it instead of the players playing against each other, every player teams up against the game, usualy these sort of games are all about juggling the shit the game throws at you and so they are more easier, the more player plays as each player can focus on a task on hand

in Pandemic the world has fallen to 4 terrible virus and each player represent an ecologic operator which has to contain the virus and ultimately find a cure, each player starts with 5 cards that represent cities of the world or can represent special event that helps the player (like a card that gives you an extra turn for example) at the start of each turn,a player draws 2 cities card and those 2 cities get an infection cube,if a pandemic card gets drawn, then another card is drawn and the city show get 3 infection cube,if a city get more than 3 infection cubes then an outbreak occurs and each city connected to the city where the outbreak occured gets 1 infection cube, this can cause a cascade effect so for example if there are 3 cities that are linked together and all 3 of them have 3 infection cubes and an outbreak happens in one of them, then the outbreak would happens in the 2 other cities as well spreading a shitload of cubes all over the map,if more than 7 outbreak occur or if more than 24 infection cubes are on the same region the player lose the game,so basicaly it's all about managing the cubes so that a lot of them don't lump together which is what basicaly make this game so hectic

after the card are drawn each player gets 4 action, they can use these to move all around the map (they can either walk normaly or use one of their cities card to either fly from any part of the world to that city or from that city to any other part of the world),to remove cube's (if a lot of cubes are gathering in an area to prevent an outbreak) or to find a cure, finding a cure require's a player to have 5 card all from the same region (so if you want to cure africa disease you need to have 5 africa card's) and also to be in a research station (which can be build on a city by discarding that city card) at the end of each turn a player draws 2 new card but of course the chance of a player owning 5 card of the same region are pretty slim so trading with other players is required, but here come's the problem, trading can only be done when both player are on the city of the card they want to trade (so if you want to give san francisco card to a player you both have to be on san francisco) so basicaly the whole game is all about spreading the players to contain infection cube's and then finding the time and space to gather them all to trade cards when required and panicking a lot when you get close to losing :lol

to top it all, each player gets a special power, one of them remove's cube for free, one of them get 5 action's,and one of them can break trading rules therefore being able to trade even when other players aren't able
you can try your hand on this deutsch site which also hold tons of other shit

Persona 3. I'm around 8 hours and 20 floors in.

-Intro took way too long. Fuck all these five-second cutscenes! X X X X X X X X X X X X X X.... Pretty much everything in this game takes way too long, really.

-Obviously a personal gripe, but the "world" is too small. I want to explore stuff goddamnit

-Battles are okay. No DEEP mechanics, mostly just standard JRPG fare rock-paper-scissors combat, but that's okay. What aggravates me the most is having no direct control over my dumbass party members. There have already been soooooo many times where an NPC party member could end the fight in ten seconds by chain-casting X elemental weakness and stunning all enemies for an all-out attack, but instead they do something stupid like heal and waste their turn, and then I almost get wiped out by multi-target casts from the enemies because Junpei is vulnerable to Y elemental and the enemies repeat turns. At best it's a waste of fucking time and at worst (twice today) I get game-overed from 100% HP.

-I'm torn on the social linking system. My first thought was I like how it works as a diversion when you get bored of dungeon crawling. I'm already starting to get sick of this shit, though.  It's like the lowest form of stat grinding imaginable. Grind courage, charm, and academics so you can make social links -> grind social link levels so you can fuse persona of X arcana up to X level -> fuse persona -> repeat entire process an hour later to replace persona because the enemies ten floors up are casting spells of an affinity which your persona is vulnerable to. The way social linking and persona fusion are intertwined almost gives the impression that the system was designed with the assumption that players would use a guide. Otherwise it seems too time-consuming to figure out what strengths/weaknesses you're in need of, then check your fusions to see what personas you have available, then wander around "socializing" for an in-game week until you find the arcana you need. I guess it won't be as bad once I've established all the social links and only have to level them.

-The dungeon crawling is okay -- not good, not bad. Some additional variance in design, maybe every 5-10 floors instead of 15-20, would have been nice. Needs more loot too. The fatigue mechanic is annoying and seems redundant considering all the other limitations (level, SP, amount of items, equipment quality, available personas) that already cap how far you can progress in Tartarus in a single sitting.

-Seems like the music mostly sucks. Great in some areas (Tartarus, Velvet Room), horrible in others (School, Mall). I could at least tolerate the upbeat Japacrap if it were not the same 5 songs over and over and over and over. Oh and the standard battle theme is complete shit. What's with the hilariously bad pseudo-rap? Is this a series staple?

The nicest thing I can say at this point is this: for someone like me who has never played any Persona or SMT games, nor played many PS2 JRPGs in general, it's a refreshing experience. Having said that, I probably would have already dropped this if not for the novelty value. And really, if it takes as long to complete as people say, I don't think I'll finish it.

Batman: Arkham City. Less than 5 hours in.

Liking this a lot. Not much to say. I love gliding and grapple-hooking all over the place (grapple-hooking helicopters F YEAH), love the fluid combat, love the freedom. Everything in the city looks a bit too samey to me (grey, decrepit, and grey) and I would have some serious trouble navigating without a map. I suppose that's par for the course in open world games these days, though. There are side activities and collectible shit everywhere, but I usually save this kind of stuff for a second play-through. Right now I'm just focusing on the main story, fuckin up some bad guys along the way. Arkham Asylum probably has the "tighter" story.

So far the only thing I really miss from the original is Scarecrow and his psychedelic platforming nightmares.

I'll probably finish this this weekend.

:whew man i love that titan quest. Finally got done with Parnassus. Im getting kinda tired of greece. Cant believe i got like a jajillion more hours left in this fucking game.

How is TQ vs Torchlight vs Torchlight 2 vs Diablo 3? I have all of em but haven't played any for more than 2-3 hours. I need an exploration-and-loot-oriented game to be the methadone to my WoW addiction, and I'm kinda leaning towards Titan Quest because of the ancient world setting.

Diablo 3 > TQ > Torchlight

I know D3 gets a lot of flack, some of which is deserved, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. TQ is still pretty boss, though. Torchlight's okay, wouldn't really call it great. Haven't played Torchlight 2, but everyone says it's whack.

I loved P3's music... the mall and battle theme in particular. I think we have pretty opposite tastes in games OptimoPeach, since I didn't really care for Batman as much as everyone else (it was a decent game but didn't knock my socks off) and loved P3. Maybe even more than P4. Even though P4 fixes a lot of the complaints you have with 3.

Social linking is not really required to beat the game at all.  You can create gamebreaker personas without it, no problem.  It's more of a bonus.  Moreover, except for social links with certain characters, your charm/courage/intelligence stats don't matter at all.  It's all about your answers to questions and stuff.  The real prize of doing social links are the ultimate personas you get at the end, and as I said, you don't really need them at all to reach the end.

maxing charm/courage/intelligence let you hook with the chicks in your party so they are clearly the most important stat :smug

if i remember correctly it's charm for yukari, academic for mitsuru and courage for a character you meet later

oh also when you start a social link, bring a persona of the same kind (so if you go progress the sun social link bring a sun persona for example) it makes them go faster

Finished this a couple of nights ago. Surprised so many people hated the open world aspect since I thought it was pretty well implemented. Didn't have much of an issue navigating without the map as there was usually a big landmark nearby, and I loved all the bits of fan service they had throughout. Combat was even more awesome than I remembered from Asylum. Getting all three medals on Joker's Carnival was a glorious moment.

Probably the best game I've played since Vanquish. Only downside was the story which was a hot mess. I got the feeling that Rocksteady knew they wouldn't be doing another Arkham game so they threw as much shit in there as possible.

Ahh I guess I should have played the PSP version of Persona 3. Glad to hear social linking isn't an absolute must, though. I think that was bothering me more than anything. Maybe I'll aim to max my academics anyway so I can bed delicious Mitsuru-senpai :drool

I'll try to stick with it. Despite not having much fun with it in the past couple days I still feel the urge to play.

I do like the downtempo version of the mall theme that plays in the police station. It has a nice trip hop vibe :pimp

Pretty much the only reason I can see for people disliking the open world element is that it feels like it was included as an afterthought. So little of what I've played of Arkham City thus far has involved the outdoors areas of the city that the map could probably be 50% smaller and I wouldn't know the difference. Side activities are almost wholly separate from the main storyline, and there were quite a few open world games this generation that did a much better job of threading side missions into the main story and making them feel meaningful, so I can understand that complaint.  I don't really care, though. Glide + batclaw alone make it enjoyable enough for me.

Some of these boss fights (spoiler) play out like DMC-lite.

Innovation

this tabletop game is FUCKING A-MA-ZI-NG you have 10 deck each representing different technologies, the first deck represent prehistoric level of tech (like the wheel, pottery, sailing) while the last deck represent future like technologies (stem cells, software and most importantly the internet) each player starts with 2 cards from the first deck, then work it's way up getting better tech and trying to score different time period, the game ends when a player scores 6 time period or when other stuff happens (like there's a tech that ends the game by robot uprising :lol) each card comes with an effect triggered by a symbol and 4 icons of which one is empty, each icon represent different domain like industry, economy or research and here comes the genius of the game, when you trigger an effect,if it's an attack you can only attack if you have an higher domain of the symbol of that attack than an opponent,if it's positive you have to share it with all the players that have an equal or bigger domain in the symbol that triggers that card than you,but the effect all wildly vary between them, some let you score by following a specific rule (that your opponent might not be able to follow),other let you skip a time period and draw from a deck higher than you should, some of them provide a reward for a risk to the point you actualy want to share them and just hope your opponent blows itself up

some of them help you improve your domain count by splaying, you see each tech has a color representing it's kind but you can't have multiple tech of the same color (there are 5 colors by the way) so when you play a tech of a color you already played, your new tech goes on top covering the old tech! this also cover that card domain symbols but by splaying you slide all the card on the stack either left, right or up therefore making them show 1,2 or 3 of their domain symbol's,of course some cards let you draw card and directly put them below stack you already own specificaly for the purpouse of increasing your domain

come play with me! it will you do more better than any assassin's creed game

Thunderscape is very surprising to me, in that it's a 90's PC RPG that isn't brutally hard. I've played a few of them and that's basically how most of them are: start out brutally hard and then get slightly easier as they go along. Of course, it still follow the old convention of plopping you down in a massive world but not really telling you what to do or where to go, though, again, it's not nearly as bad in the starting area as it in a game like, say, Wizardry 7. That makes it much easier for me to get into, I don't feel like I need to read through massive write-ups to get even the vaguest hint about how to properly get started. Yeah, I could easily see myself sinking tens of hours into this.

I love the soundtrack:

Finally fucking beat Soul Bubbles, S Ranked every stage in the game too... fuck this game but I made it my bitch so I'm happy.

Also been playing a bit of Sonic Generations. It's probably the best Sonic since Knuckles, even if it still suffers from some of the typical 3D Sonic issues with the lock on attack and shit. And I don't like having to do "challenges" to unlock the bosses. Still gonna see this to the end and try for most of the cheevos. Wish there were more stages from the first games, I don't give a shit about stages from anything past Knuckles (even if the music to the night city stage is AWESOME).

Have you played any of the Sacred series? It's very similar to the first two Divinity games.

And they're both on Steam.

Finally getting back into Yakuza 5.  Cleared the first part with Kiryu, which was awesome but kind of stupid and over the top.  Now I'm on the Saejima section in Sapporo.  Saejima was the worst part of Yakuza 4 and he's not exactly shaking that here.  The shit that is happening right now is so stupid and sci-fi and out of place I don't even know what the fuck.  And not in the usual awesome Yakuza way, either.

I finished up Kiryu's chapter back in January, but then other games came out and I put it down. Need to get back into it.

I decided, as an Aliens fan, that it was time to subject myself to Colon Margins - albeit a special "5FD" edition version on PC.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere do you start?

All the voice acting talent of John Merrick
Graphics so horrific that my Xbox 1 started laughing from inside a locked cupboard
No story pacing AT ALL and game design that a cat could barf up : Oh we are on board a ship ARGH disaster Go cut down OMG XENOMORPH, Oh door is blocked by fire.... zzzzzzzenomorph
Xenos with all the menace of a bowl of cornflakes

I want everyone involved in this game sprayed with raw sewage - twice daily - for every day this was in development

I installed Windows so I could play Miami Hotline and The Walking Dead. Haven't started on TWD yet, but Miami Hotline alone was totally worth it.

*Hotline Miami

anyway, bangin' soundtrack!

As much as people rave about the soundtrack of the game, that's the only track I remember.

Really? Because I'd say these are pretty memorable, too:

Yeah, couldn't recall any of them even if you held a gun to my head. Don't mean to make a value statement. I remember hearing them, but that's it.

Hotline Miami is fantastic and the soundtrack is incredible. When Perturbator kicks in ... oh god. And the game is riddled with amazing tracks.

I was late to the trailer but that's also fantastic (i assume everyone has seen it but just in case) :

oh, and speaking of awesome trailers, i'm getting  back into New Star Soccer 5 :

I S-ranked Contra: Shattered Soldier. That game's pretty awesome.

I was hoping it would have some hilariously bad reviews on metacritic, but only Eurogamer's stands out: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/r_contrass_ps2  :(

my second run through the beginning of Divine Divinity is much better now that i know a bit of what i'm doing.

instead of just concentrating on close attack combat which can be too devastating i've gone for a bit of ranged and a handful of tricks that will let me escape if things get too hairy (freeze, leaden limbs, and the thing where i can unleash steel scorpions).  i only really have troubles if i get ganged up on but i'm quick to flee.

game is a lot of fun.  i don't know why it's clicked when previous attempts to play have always left me cold

makes me think i should give the Gothic series another shot after this

Currently hooked on two 2D games:

I'm about 15 hours into FF Dimensions. Currently in the Yggdrasil tree. I love how straightforward this game is. There are towns, but not too much time is spent in them. Not much time spent in the overworld either. It's all dungeons and a bit of story.

Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds is still getting playtime because all the characters are different and fun to use even though they have the same basic controls. I'll get the dlc this weekend.

I've also been running through Metal Gear Rising on hard. It really is a short game after your first playthrough. Shorter than most action games.

i usually get to where it lets me control my character and then i spend a half hour trying to fix the controls and still having a horrible time of it.

Gothic 1 and 2 are just so old and dated [ugly 3D graphics are ugly] and Gothic 3 is just such an absolute mess in every way [the dreadful combat makes it nearly unplayable]. There's that huge remake/fan patched Forsaken Gods thing, but I'd already lost total interest in the series by that point.

You're probably fine with Arcania, though.

I'm sure you already guessed, but the final chapter (4), everyone groups together and you can swap between everyone. Also the dark and light classes are exclusive, so don't expect Sol & company to become Ninjas (dark exclusive).

Thanks, I just learned about this yesterday when I checked a guide to see if I missed any summons. I missed the thunder one, but I think I can still get it once I switch back to the light group.

The summons are unique per group, until they meet together. You get an airship and you can go anywhere you want. Summon is pretty shit tho, I wouldnt beat yourself up over it.

Started Miasmata. What a weird and hokey game. So far I'm enjoying myself, although I need to get used to navigation, still. I'm at a point now where I have to go out at night to collect some fluorescent algae and I'm not too thrilled about that...
spoiler (click to show/hide)
I've already met the creature once and thought it was scary at first, but it got comical quick as it lumbered about me with its crappy animations. It took a swipe at me, gave me a fever and then I went to bed and that was that. If it's always going to be like this I'm not exactly worried. Still, not keen on meeting it in the dark...

You're probably fine with Arcania, though.
Arcania doesn't deserve to bear the name. No camps/allegiances, barely any side quests, it's piss easy and worst of all it's one long corridor. The combat is less clunky than in the series proper and it looks prettier due to being a newer game but that's about it.
