Playing Chantelise, picked up because as it's on sale again you can definitely tell this was Easy Game Stations first game but like it all the same as a janky Ys lite I got past that first dungeon so far.

GAF had a thread full of dweeberts bitching about Carpe Fulgurs artistic license with the translation yet they get chubbies everytime working designs does the same shit! Let me tell you the dialogue of that fan translation is dry as fuck! In closing people that have to have this type of shit completely serious and dry can eat a bag of dicks.

Graduated from playing Crash Course to playing its sequel. There is a difference between free and free-to-play, and the sequel is riddled with little transactions, building up Stars to unlock levels, or paying for them with premium currency Coins, which they give you a little of at the start, and possibly a little more as you progress.

I haven't paid any money yet, though I probably will. It is a fun game, just a little grabby.

Saints Row 2 - 3 is the only game in the series that I've played and I loved it so I figured it's probably time to play that copy of 2 I got with my PS3 version of Third. Only a couple hours in but it's fun so far - I loved how over the top and crazy SR3 was but I still really like the more toned down but still humorous thing they're going for here. Graphics are a little outdated but the gameplay is still solid open world stuff and there's so much to do everywhere. Glad I gave this a chance.

So far Bioshock Infinite is a gaudy, pretentious grab-bag of everything that's wrong with modern AAA game design. In the intro sequence I walked past about 20 NPCs, 17 of which were the exact same character model.  Nice sound design though.

just start with chill penguin,he gets stun everytime you shoot him and all of his attacks have huge tell... if you can't even beat him then no video is going to save you, chill penguin stage also has the much needed dash boot upgrade

after that as long as you use the right subweapon on the boss, they always get stunned and you can stunlock them... the weakness go

chill penguin -> spark mandrill -> armored armadillo -> launch octopus -> boomer kuwanger -> sting chameleon -> storm eagle -> flame mammoth

flame mammoth is another easy boss to start with since the arena you fight him his huge and he's pretty slow overall (coincidentaly chill penguin is weak to his weapon) but his stage becomes easier if you do chill penguins as it freeze all the lava in the stage

It's sloppy. I honestly don't care. The videos show how boring the level design in the game is, I'm completely apathetic in this, and I'm not playing for perfection. It doesn't help I can't configure the snes9x emulator to allow up+left/up+right;etc. for some reason, and you can probably tell in some sections like the part where I'm going to reach the heart.

Either way, you get the point.

Biggest tip? Change dash to L. It is practically required. Having it on face button or double tapping is gay.

Alright, done with God of War: Ascension

Fun 7 hour spin-off God of War title that feels about on par with the two PSP GoW games but with GoWIII graphics.  It looks nice and the combat has a lot more depth (they got rid of the main complaint that GoW is a mash-fest by removing the hit stun affect your attack has on enemies so they'll just cut right through you if you mash.  Gotta actually block and wait for openings and counter now), but the combat has it's own frustrations (half the moves locked behind a RAGE meter that drops to nothing if you're hit once and enemies are super aggressive) and there's only like 3 locations you explore in the game and the story is nonsense.

If you like God of War (like me), and you enjoy romping through Greek Mythology with a big dumb guy who punches people in the face; it's a fun couple of nights action game.  Every GoW has had its ups and downs but I've still found them all enjoyable (still like GoW1 the least; goddamn hades wall of blades) and I could keep playing a GoW game once a year for a half-dozen hours and be happy with the series.  But hopefully next time they do something a little more interesting with at least the adventure aspect and non-combat gameplay.  Combat in this game taken to a sequel level could actually be all the combat improvement they need.

3/4 cyclops eyeballs.

So Castlevania: LoI is surprisingly ...OK? The combat system is actually quite interesting, although you'll be using the same combo over and over in the end. Every boss drops an orb that you can equip. Each orb modifies your subweapons in different way. The axe(s), in their unmodified form, fly out horizontally in an overlapping wave motion. The blue orb changes it into one giant axe that flies out, stays at the apex for a moment and then flies back to you, so if you space it right it can hit an enemy at least three times. The red orb I'm using right now could potentially be the most useful outside of boss fights, because it shoots out tiny axes in a circle around you. You can clear rooms with two or three bursts and it's especially useful for the hard to hit flea men which appear in hordes in this game.
Whip combos are less interesting (weak attack, strong attack, some air combos and two kinds of dive kick so far) and I'm not really sure how new ones are unlocked, but they are functional. I used the good old weak-weak-strong attack combo for a long while but some others are beginning to show their utility. It's still easier to just use sub-weapons if the go-to combo isn't enough, but they're there in case you run out of hearts, I supposed. Which you won't, because smashable candelabras line every wall.

Two things that massively annoy me so far:
The camera is terrible. It's functional, but it's stupidly designed to keep your character in focus all the time, which is not very useful. I don't need my character in the center of the screen at all times, I need to see what's going on around me so I don't get hit from off-screen. If it would at least lock on to the giant boss monsters... It's also disorienting as you explore the castle, which is why I check the map every minute. It's easier to see how many exits a room has and were they using the map than it is to walk in a circle every time you enter a larger room. The fuck were they thinking? Devil May Cry feels like the more modern game and it was out two years before this. Tsk tsk.

Next, the inventory system. You can only use potions and equip items in a real-time menu, which you open and page through by using the right stick or d-pad. And even though you can access separate circle menus for relics (magic) and orbs (sub-weapon mods) via R1 and R2 respectively, you have to use a more cumbersome page layout for potions. I don't get it. It even has redundant pages for the aforementioned circle menus. There's also an actual menu screen which seems to exists only so you can marvel at your stats and manually sort your items so you don't have to scroll to the bottom of your dumb menu when you need a potion. Why doesn't it autosort healing items to the top? Why does it even exist?

Tales Of Xilia

meh

Plot!

at the start of the game you get to pick between the two protagonist, jude or millia... jude is a medicine student and basicaly your stereotypical jrpg hero (idealistic, somewhat whiny) who gets sweeped into something bigger than him,and millia is a stern no shit given character a-la lightining, she's also god so a lot of "HUMAN,HUMAN,HUMAN" conversation get out of her mouth... the two ends up breaking into a secret lab together (actualy i'm not sure why they let me pick one of them if it takes less than an hour for them to end up together) and become fugitives from the military,in the meanwhile they get joined by a third character called alvin, which plays the role of the older and cooler mentor... it's not as offensive as graces but it's so boring and flat and sounds like something i would read on the jrpg trope chart or if i tried jrpg mad lib

Combat!

it's tales! the gimmick in this one is that you link with another character and that character's follow you around in battle, combo enemies you are attacking and protect your behind from other attacks, each character has different link attack which are suited for different kind of enemies, millia gets a paralyze ability that works on "speed" enemy and alvin get a guard break ability that works on "guard" enemy... as you execute attack in pair you fill a bar which let you do a single super attack each time part of the bar is filled, when the bar gets filled full, you get to do infinite super for around 30 seconds and you also get to use new linked special moves where the two character attack together (jude spins millia around for example) it works pretty well but it kinda feels like it's there only because otherwise it would play like every other tales games

SubSystem!

everytime you level up you get growth points, you put these point into a grid system that looks like a spider web, stat up are on the actual lines of the web while skills are inside the web, when you get all of the stat up around a skill, you get that skill... so basicaly it's a more customizable sphere board

the other gimmick is with shops, shops don't get better by simply progressing the game, instead you level them up with materials you find around the world map and dropped by monsters... each material has a point value and giving them to a shop give them points and when they get enough point that shops level up and they stock new items or discount some of their older stuff... but wait! each shops like a kind of item at random and giving them items of that kind gives them double (sometimes triple!) the point, for example the accessory shop suddenly decided it liked plants and since i had a bunch of seeds around,i used them all and it gained like 8 levels in a row and it's now stocking stuff like attack symbols and the like even so early in the game... it's quite dumb and since there is no actual synthesis system a little bit suspicious too... there is also no cooking at all,you simply level up a cooking shop

oh and they added an option to quick save your game for when you can't find a save point fast enough

Other Stuff!

what else... i understand that they decided to drop cell-shaded character for graces since it was a wii game but this was done ground up on ps3 so why it doesn't look half as good as vesperia did? the enviroment are pretty dull too and i don't really like the music...

I'm also not sold on Xillia. Yeah, the graphics do look very bland and when it comes to art all these Tales games are starting to blend together for me. Plus I heard it was just kind of boring outside of it's story.

Hope it's good, but I may wait a bit.

Metroid Prime 3 seems pretty OK so far. The first two parts of the game are a little too linear for my tastes but not bad. I've just arrived to the first planet where the game "opens up" and becomes a Prime game. I'm not sure I like the level design as much as Prime 1... actuallu I'm pretty sure I don't. Plus all these extra characters and stuff are just weird and don't really fit in my brain. It's like someone has picked up Samus and dropped her into another universe filled with wacky characters.

But the gameplay is still there and I'm enjoying it.

Done with Castlevania: LoI. It was pretty OK. Doesn't hold a candle to any of the 2D Metroidvanias, but it's pretty short so whatever. I never played the N64 games, but I can't imagine them to be more competent than this one.

Almost cleared it 100% but I couldn't find where the keys were that I needed and there didn't appear to be any hidden doors that I missed. The game unlocks a separate mode where you can play as Joachim, some schmuck vampire that doesn't hold a candle to the lord of the castle. Who is not Dracula, btw, but Walter. Fear the Walter, for he has a shoulder and an ass cape. I assume you can explore the rest of the castle (and find the remaining 7 spells I haven't found) using Joachim, but I didn't care enough to do it. I thought this was going to be a much longer game at first (and because Dracula hadn't revealed himself until the very end), but no, it just kinda ends with Leon Belmont swearing to hunt him down. Death is the last boss and he's no big deal. Kinda eh. The fight I had with some three story monstrosity that barred the throne room was more difficult.

The castle itself turned out to be pretty disappointing as well. Not only is it a hub design, but the levels are littered with superfluous corridors that turn any amount of backtracking into a chore. It would have been cool (not to mention useful) to find shortcuts leading from one area to another, but alas, that's impossible when the areas are self-contained.

I already moved on to Curse of Darkness. Good news: camera control. Bad news: y-axis inverted with no way to change it. They dare call it 'normal', even. Heathens. I don't expect to have to look towards the ceiling a lot and it's progress at least, so whatever. Gonna dig into it tomorrow.

I remember people complaining about backtracking in Metroid Prime 1 and 2, so that might've influenced them for the third one.  Metroid Prime 2 was worse about backtracking with the light/dark world gimmick and a fetch quest towards the end.  But I thought Prime 3 was fine with its streamlining, unlike Fusion.

Do you only own Prime 3 or the Wii Trilogy? if you haven't played Prime 2, it's worth checking out even with its bum rep.  I liked it more when I played it a few months ago than I did in 2004.

Finished up Dishonored's The Knife of Dunwall DLC. It was pretty good, definitely a nice companion to the main campaign. I wish the last DLC was out already, because I'm ready to play it.
