finishing up kingdom hearts 2.5 remix disc. having to play thru birth by sleep three times just to get to the final level...thanks Obama. game was fun but man this series recycles content like nothing else.

the Recoded movie is three hours of "get to the fucking point!" better editing than the Days movie but the story is so much more boring.

gonna take on the remaining bosses in kh2 and bbs and some random cheevs, then move on to dream drop distance.

Recoded is prob one of my favorite games in the series on gameplay alone. Takes the base KH combat, mixes in The World Ends With You's gameplay modifiers and equalizes all the keyblades so they all have different attack styles rather than one simply being stronger than the other.

Shame that it has the most throwaway plot in the whole series. And of course, that's what 2.5 shows off from it. :goty

I bought the ds game off of your last post about it; will play after ddd. I think knowing the story beforehand will make the game more fun bc there'll be no letdown out frustration from the repetition/pointless buildup.

after that the only game in the series I won't have played is Days, but it's $30 and NO ONE likes it so I'm not feeling real compelled to try it.

Beat Earthbound Beginnings/Mother 1 today, and started my second playthrough of Type-0, doing all the alternate missions and expert trials. So far I am up to the 4th chapter, died at the boss of the alternate mission. Game is going much faster as I'm not gonna do all the sidequests over again.

Today, two console generations and a decade later, I finally finished Ninja Gaiden.

She couldn't stop me this time!

Fun game but the final boss battle would have been way cooler without the camera issues. Still enjoyed sending that traitor to hell.

Beat Quackshot Starring Donald Duck over the weekend. Was a pretty good game with some nice level design and enemy placement throughout most of the game (it gets a bit lazy towards the end of the game though). Graphics are nice, control is pretty responsive, and there's a bit of adventure mode elements as you need to find some items to unlock new areas (nothing on the level of a Metroid game, though). Only complaint is the music kinda sucks, some of the songs sound like the teacher on Peanuts was sampled for the track.

Replayed Sonic Adventure 2: Battle just for the chao garden.  :expert

This game did not hold up at all. Mech levels are nothing but mindless shooters, treasure hunting levels are boring and force you to find emerald shards in order (you'll find one on accident more often than not), and even the Sonic/Shadow levels don't hold up due to the game's physics working against you.

At this point, I'm convinced I liked this back in the day strictly because of "NEW SONIC GAME  :gladbron". It's that bad.

Can't seem to pull myself away from hourly installments of AoE: Castle Siege. It's like Clash of Clans, but troops can be redirected after placement, so it feels more engaging. Sadly, I wish I hadn't invested in upgrading my Age so quickly, as my troops are all outclassed.

Played a little Hacknet.

From what I can tell it a streamlined hacker simulator inspired by Uplink. You hack into machines and run commands to search around their filesystem looking for data and whatnot. There's an element of resource management as well because the machine you're on only has a limited amount of RAM so you have to management the various hacking tools you run at any given time.

Didn't play a whole lot of it but it seems pretty legit.

Invisible Inc is really really good. It's also pretty challenging. The procedural generation will play nasty tricks on you. I need to get the hang of the game, because I probably give in too soon to violence and that's not really viable, especially since ammo can only be bought during mission (with no guarantee at any point that you'll find a fabricator to hack and access) : that's a neat mechanic that keeps you on the edge at every point.

I'm on a good roll in my current try, got the chance to liberate an operative early on, the cyborg dude. Then close by I infiltrated an augment facilty and nailed a pretty good one (hacking stuff gives him AP, so he's very mobile) and now I was able to get him a weapon as well.

I like them up to a point where there is some bullshit gameplay interfering with the interactive movie I was playing.

In Indigo Prophecy it was the QTE in the office, in Heavy Rain it was crawling through some duct.

Yeah I mean it's supposed to be this interactive movie, story, adventure type of thing which in theory should be enjoyed by many people.

Then it's sprinkled with these punishing sequences that I would imagine alienate a lot of people.

When I'm playing a game like Bloodborne I expect to die and be challenged, the gameplay is built around this. I don't expect to get stuck in a tunnel for an hour (yes I know the wind is blowing from somewhere and you should move in that direction) or on some stupid QTE shit that is harder then any QTE I've seen before in an interactive movie.

Game design is straight 1990's Dragon Lair, when it should be going for something like 2015's Life is Strange.

Sometimes the word hack is thrown around too much and its misused.

David Cage is a hack. Almost every game he makes has the exact same scenes and motifs. Women in constant danger of getting raped? Check. Women showering in their apartments? Check. Supernatural mumbo jumbo involving the main character? Check (Heavy Rain omitted).  Main character getting in trouble with the law or authority? Check.

There's probably more similarities that all three of his adventure games share. Never played or seen much of the David Bowie game he made.

Cage thinks he is an "artist" instead of a game maker which fucks up most of his stuff. Heavy Rain was the only one really able to overcome and still be decent as a functional game/story.

A little late to the party but I just finished The Big Score in GTA5. I thought the "obvious" option would be a bit more over the top crazy and ludicrous but I just ran and around shooting everyone like it was no biggie. Makes me wish there was a new Kane & Lynch (the best videogame version of Heat) but that won't happen. :'(

Also finished all the campaigns in the Master Chief collection and it was kinda nice to do everything again in a series I played over so many years. The Halo storyline is all over the place though and Halo 3 had a butt ugly aging process in comparison to everything else. I don't think they could make the tech match the goals of the artists so that's why everything has a really jank look up close. On a technical level I can respect that it's lighting is uber-realistic and that's what caused so many tradeoffs (wasn't worth it).

Now I have to motivate myself to finish Assassin's Creed Unity and Far Cry 3. It didn't take long for me to completely lose track of the story in both of those games but that's probably intentional for AC games.

It's not a David Cage game. What I'm saying is that is what I thought it was till I saw some friends play it. It actually looks really good, and way better than that hack could ever come up with.

I know its not Cage, was just throwing up cause I saw his name

Tried Project CARS since all the recent updates have made it run decently on AMD hardware (If not great compared to Codemasters games). Wish I didn't pay €30 for it because good lord it's still infested with bugs and is irritating. The racing can be thrilling till the AI suddenly wants to play demolition derby and the crew chief is constantly whining about the gap between you and the opponent in front/behind instead of warning you about tyre wear or when rain is about to come in (Which you have to check manually via the pause for the rain strength so you can decide to put on inters or full wets). Missed potential game of the year.

Also how on earth I ever finished Conker's Bad Fur Day back in 2001 is a mystery. That game holds up so awfully today. Gotta chug through to get them achievements

"only a handful of cringey moments" - isnt that a great reason to avoid a game? lol. The stories and characters in the Borderlands games are absolutely repugnant and I honestly couldn't imagine a worse game than another cloying Telltale heap based on that IP.

I've started on Evil Within on the 360. Game is.... OK. Combat is suitably tank-like and cramped to be an authentic survival horror thingy. Characterisation is hammy to non-existent which is also true to the genre and a good thing. Art direction is fantastic.

I'll go so far as to say its just legit good. At least 3 episodes in. And the first episode might be the best episode of any telltale game ever. I understand the skepticism toward the ip in this genre but its absolutely fine so far. If it wasn't "Tales from  the Borderlands" nobody would prejudge it.

Just finished Wolfenstein The New Order

Great ride and a great fun shooter, later levels got harder but still fair.  Felt like the energy weapon was a bit OP and led to some cheesing.

Game is pretty meaty and really put into perspective how short and lacking in content The Order was.

Story was pretty dark and game was bloody. The setting was really well done. Music was eerie.

Really wish there were more fps games like this.

SOTN looks dated? Uhhhh.

Crazy details and art direction that tell a story with little cutscenes: moss growing on walls, for instance.
The sprites are hand drawn and some of Alucard's animation are 30 individually hand drawn frames. Do you realize how much effort goes into that single animation?

Dated? SOTN?

The word "dated" has officially jumped the shark. :dead
