Destiny is pretty short from what I've got through so far, but it's just like a really good Halo campaign with more interesting abilities and weapons etc definitely worth getting the collection on sale. I've only put time into one subclass (void walker) so I guess there's probably replay value in leveling up other ones. A great game to late adopt 👍🏻

The vanilla campaign is very short. Taken King is pretty lengthy, House of Wolves and Rise of Iron are about the same length.

You are on Xbox? I'll play a little with you if you want and carry you through high level content if you are able.

I usually play the most on Tuesday/Wednesday since its reset time, but otherwise don't play much except to play a few Crucible games or do a few Strikes.

Yeah on I'm Xbox one. (SpencerGR) think I might have played through the vanilla, killed the Vex heart .. thing. I play video games pretty sporadically these days but if you see me on it, feel free to join up!

Well, I beat Exist Archive on 2 of the possible 3 paths... now doing NG+ to get the third path. Also did the secret dungeon today. Since I'm so strong NG+ should go really quick then I can finally put this game to bed.

Also started playing Project Diva Future Tone

Still on the COD IW and COD4 Remastered hype train but slowly losing interest because when I went home over the winter break I left my PS4 on purpose so I played my PS3....which meant playing MW2. What a great multiplayer experience that game was/is. Damn. The last 3-4 CODs just don't compare with their boost-jumping shtick.

Other than that I've started playing Overwatch more and more. Always a good time but most of my friends have it on XB1 unfortunately (I have it on PS4).

So I started playing Undertale and I need some help:

If you mercy monsters in the fights you get 0 xp and don't level up.  If you don't level up I'm assuming your HP doesn't go up.  Isn't this going to make the game extremely difficult?  I find the bullet patterns pretty tough on a controller to dodge already, so I'm worried about it getting really hard and thinking maybe I should just kill all the monsters and level up.

Also the first 20 mins in the ruins with high random encounter rate was so boring I almost bailed thinking this was just a game for trendy retro kids to like; but then it got better in the snow with the skeletons and I'm enjoying it now.

Re: What are you playing?
« Reply #29048 on: January 17, 2017, 01:13:56 AM »
The game was made to be beaten at level 1 the whole way through. You get equipment that reduces the damage you take and most healing items will just heal you for full health. Some fights get hard, but that's just natural difficulty rather than "im doing this at level 1" difficulty.

Besides, the only reason to level up is to make killing monsters easier. If you aren't killing monsters, why would you try to level up?  :doge

Still going at MGSV The game is at its best when you plot an infiltration route and then go in and kill everyone. Stealth just is tedious and not really worth it. Thing is, I feel I must be getting close to the end (I just rescued code talker) and it doesn't really feel like I've had those really cool MGS boss fights that its known for. Yeah, ok there were the 4 snipes. And the burning man was just hilarious (well placed explosion into a pool of water) but otherwise they feel largely non-existent. So far though I'm glad that we don't get 40 minute long Codec speeches anymore. That's nice.

I booted up wow to finish Legion finally and I hit timesinks, making me think Ill just wrap up the campaign and stop.

Example of stupid shit blocking progress

Quote
Preparations for Invasion

This is the last huge set of follower missions.
This requires you to complete 5 missions that take 12 hours each.
You can only complete 1 at a time and they start with, "Preparations for Invasion".

Finished Quake II. Not much of a step-up from Quake. Strogg monotony wasn't the right way to go. What's worse, most of the weapons actually feel worse to use. Strange recoil, fire rates, long switching speeds. Just meh. Hard+/Nightmare puts a finer point on that, but it makes combat more exciting overall.

I know you're already aware of this, but it's difficult to take seriously reviews of games from two decades ago and complain about things which have been refined endlessly. It's like when someone reviews a classic film and identifies something as cliché, when in truth it was wild and groundbreaking at the time of the work's creation.

It's also possible I'm operating with too strong a bias; Quake 2 was a tremendous experience for me.

Yeah, felt like Doom 3-2 in some ways. Brighter of course, but just as claustrophobic. I guess that iteration of idtech was pretty restrictive in what you could do?

As I remember it, that version of idtech wasn't very good at larger, outdoor levels [although Quake IV did have more than Doom 3].

I started it, but I dropped it. It's basically Raven's continuation of Doom 3 but less dark from what I remember.

Bought it on 360 (with the Quake 2 disc which was solid) and own it on Steam. I should get back to it. :lol

Quake 4 was fun. Not a classic, but a fun ride.

Speaking of rides, I have reinstalled my playseat setup, with my G27 wheel + shifter and pedals, and its still fucking awesome. I'm using my ps3 with rigth now, with Midnight Clug Los Angeles (I feel this game was forgotten? Its awesome), Daytona USA and WRC 4 (with disastrous results, I've decided to play in Beginners mode)

It's next to my desktop PC so I've started to explore pc options, and its a FUCKING TOTAL MESS. You basically have to use a profiler program (and some people are using some 3rd party tools too?) and tweak settings for each game and save them in a profile that you load every time you play a game  You gotta tweak dead zones and like 10 different levels of sensitivity and blah  :doge. I Don't have time for this anymore, I just want want to sit down and play.

I'm not just hardcore enough anymore.

There's a couple of weird games I want to play, but not sure I want to spend money just because they're weird.

One of the games is Soda Drinker Pro, which is pretty cheap and has a wee cultish following. The other is a PC Adventure game called Wailing Heights. A music heavy point n click type of game where you play a ghost that possesses bodies in their work as the manager of a jam band populated by the undead.

I'm early but it def plays better. It's not as swimy and just overall feels better to do stuff. If you liked the first but thought the controls were annoying, you'll probably like this one at least as much.

Tho I hear it's like 30+ hours long and has a ton of superficial fetch-questy side content so keep that in mind.

Some final thoughts on SMT IV the story was...passable, I guess. The game play was, as always, great. It's cool to play a game where if you take even the most rudimentary battle as a given you can get wiped out completely.  That all being said, Goddamn the map is aggravating to navigate, and sine there is a metric shitton of back tracking in the game it gets to be frustrating as hell.  "Oh you need to go to x shrine? Hope you remembered where it was, cause we're not gonna help you there." You do unlock the ability to fly very late in the game, but the way it happens with you have to be in certain spots to even take off, it's only nominally better than walking where you're going.  I enjoyed my time with it, but man that map gives me a nervous twitch.

Yeah, 4A fixes the map and has a better story with more challenging boss fights.  Basically fixes all the problems with 4.  4 is still a solid game, but 4a is more what I want out of mainline SMT.  I'd definitely play it at some point.

Re-playing GTA V story mode on PS4. It's fun. It's more fun in some ways because the writing is solid and consistent. There is a story running through all three characters, and I vary my play style based on which character I'm using, which increases my immersion. I'm not fond of the control changes made between 360-to-PS4, I don't like that a whole button on my fucking controller is devoted to SHARING, when it could have easily been engaged from the Options key's menu. Garbage decision. This time around it's obvious from the setup that Lester/Michael's initial heist is the work of seasoned professionals that are good at their job, and Trevor's plan is inherently batshit insane from the jump. Another benefit of this play through is that ALL the content is WORKING. Playing the 360 version from launch day, all kinds of shit was busted, particularly the Stranger events and the purchasable property side-missions.

Feeling doubtful about going back to MAD MAX. I'm definitely feeling the repetition fatigue Bebpo mentioned, but I'm a little curious how the story will turn out.

Oh man, the share button.  Even after like three years into the console's life I still accidentally hit it like once a session.  Especially since when using a DS4 on PC it's select.  Could definitely go with a redesign for PS5.  Put the button small and elsewhere, bring back select.

Finally went in and finished Mega Man Legends 2, after just stopping right before the end boss. I grinded a bunch of energy tanks and then just spammed her with attacks not even bothering to learn the patterns since I just wanted it to be over  :lol

Also beat the Pitioss Ruins in FFXV, which means I'm effectively done with the game. 90% trophy completion, I didn't feel like mastering fishing or grinding to beat Adamantoise (I'm only level ~80). The Pitioss Ruins were a bit of a PITA, whose bright idea was making a precision-based 3D platformer area coupled with the momentum and movement system in FFXV? Took me around 5 hours to do.

Been working on FATE/Extella, which is a FATE musou game on Vita/PS4 and sequel to the PSP FATE/Extra RPG.

Got up to the point where I was in the Japanese version over the weekend and played past that last night, so I've cleared Saber (Nero)'s route and am now about to finish Caster (Tamamo No Mae)'s route.  Good god at the amount of WAIFU~ shit in this game's story.  I mean literally you have Saber and Caster just clinging to your main character and they will not shut up about being your waifu~ and you responding with some cheesy ass shit and fawning over how white and soft their skin is.  Uguu levels off the charts here. I hope that the third route, where you play as Saber (Altera), a more serious character, there's none of that crap...but something tells me that there will be.  :doge

It's weird how cheesy and uguu-zy the story is, when the Fate/Unlimited Blade Works anime I watched recently was pretty serious and had none of those tropes.

It's weird how cheesy and uguu-zy the story is, when the Fate/Unlimited Blade Works anime I watched recently was pretty serious and had none of those tropes.

That's Fate/Extra in a nutshell.  :expert

It's worth at least checking out for the gorgeous art direction.

Yeah, the art direction is completely on-point. It's hard to believe how well they nailed the combination of bleak and severe. Each area has different tone and shapes that dominate its landscape, making general landmarking surprisingly easy.

I just looked up the ending and, yeah, I'm deleting this and getting on with my life.

I wish they made Fate/Zero games.  No waifus in that :x
I tried watching some other Fate and I couldn't deal with high school kids & waifus.  But Fate/Zero aka X/1999 2.0 was great.
