I got Bionic Commando & MK vs. DC in the mail today so I guess I will try MK, and play a bunch of BC along with some more Time Gentlemen, Please! tonight after I finish the homeworking.

play with japanese people, really nice folks.

Really? Ive always found the Japanese to be bigger assholes in online games. Especially in Lost Planet 1.5

Most of the J-peeps I've encountered have been gentlemanly to the point of weirding me out. Instead of doing their best to annoy other players by rapping or singing or calling names, they tend to be completely silent until they chime in with a big "Yoroshiku onegai itashimasu" (let's all have a good time/literally, "please be nice to me")

BTW, J-bores: today is the last day to abuse Play-Asia's VISA promotion, where you get 20% off anything that has been in stock over 30 days. That means no Batman or Guitar Hero, unless you're wanting Lego Batman and GH: Aerosmith. I just picked up Command and Conquer for 1100 yen, so I'm stoked.

Silent, yes.  But I have had my share of rage-quitting Japanese players in fighting games.

Yeah, I've seen that at work when peeps are playing SFIV tourney mode. They just bail; every culture has its weak sauce component. And the internet is full of shits that do stuff anonymously that they'd never get away with in person.

Actually I just remembered a really frustrating UNO game, if you can believe that, where two players were just having a conversation, and ignoring their turns. UNO's got a good game design for handling that, but the first few rounds of an "absent" player are still patience-trying, particularly if they're THERE and just CHATTING with each other. They finally left the game, but I thought that was pretty rood.

On the other hand, I was playing UFC the other day and some US-accent jerkoff was talking about raping me and calling out every single racial epithet I've heard and a few more besides. He was good at the game, but the lousiest, rage-inducing freak I've ever heard. He was playing a lvl. 98 character against my level 8 one (just experience level, not a relative power thing), so I asked, "Really? You just mopped the floor with a noob player, and you're that excited about it? Was it that much of a challenge for you?" So I guess the UNO guys were not that bad.

Yeah the first one. I'm playing through it single right now though Dom's died stupidly enough times that I'm wishing there was someone else co-oping it with me.

I have had similar experiences in games like Halo. I was on a team that was outnumbered 8 to 4 or something like that, and the other team was shit talking like mad (pwned, raped, etc.) I thought the same thing that you did: Really? Your team has two players for every one of ours, and you're that excited about the outcome? smh

That stuff sucks, but i can't stand racism just because of the context that it conjures up for me. uggh

Japanese people have PCs for gaming?

Oddly enough, I played a lot of Age of Empires on the PC over the years against Japanese players. Very well mannered folk, always enjoyable matches.

I started playing Metroid Prime on Wii (in the MP Trilogy), but I am not digging the Wiimote/Nunchuk set-up.  Maybe I just need to sink more time into it.

It is amazing how the simple text response of "u mad" can put a halt to all the dumb shit.   :lol  Send them flame bait, wait for a response, send U MAD and then block them.  Always fun!  The high-level player raping the lower-level guy is also easily countered by what you said.

Yea SFIV on the PC is like that. I'll be playing Ryu and have racial slurs flying out of the speaker...then I'll whip out Dan and kick his ass with FUCKING DAN and they'll drop.

"high level rapists" - yeah, they're cocks. They're also the most likely to disconnect if you get the upper hand. They are like chihuahuas: the weakest little rat-dogs around, acting like they're the biggest. Hell, they're about the same size of the shits of the largest dogs.

Yeah the first one. I'm playing through it single right now though Dom's died stupidly enough times that I'm wishing there was someone else co-oping it with me.

Yes. That. I banged my head against the singleplayer game for several hours, but gave up on the game because of Dom's AI. A few months later I played a co-op session with a friend, and it was like an entirely different game. It was fun. It's the difference between feeling like being in a buddy movie where you're both badasses, and the singleplayer is like escorting a short-bus rider through a warzone.

Played MK vs. DC with a friend for a few hours.  Even though the game is a lol fighter and the graphics/sound effects are terrible I have to say I was surprised and impressed with the new movelists for some of the MK characters.  Last MK I played was UMK3 and I really dig all of sub-zero's new attacks like ice counter & ice teleport.  The animation for some of the attacks in this game is pretty good like how when sub-zero slides he leaves icicles along the way.

MK Vs. DC is really pretty good when you compare it to the other 3D MKs, and especially to Armageddon.   :yuck  It still kinda suffers from "every character has the same normals and animations" syndrome though.

Well like I said the last MK I played was Ultimate MK3, so this was my first 3d MK and it's kinda MK and kinda goofy not.

Also the lack of gore in the fatalities compared to the 2d ones is stupiiiid.

Its pretty easy to get some more  ;) I've been thinking about hooking my DC up again, some Skies of Arcadia could be sweet...

as for me I just beat Splosion Man on Hardcore Mode :rock. Glad Im done with that (until the netcode is patched and/or there is DLC and/or I have a friend over who has the chops to beat it co-op with me)

While Dom's stupidity is annoying in general, the worst part comes when you're facing undefeatable enemies. Then Dom will do horrifyingly stupid things like jump in front of a Beserker and dieing for it, thus giving me a game over. Or when he runs into the darkness in the 2nd level and dies, regenerates, and then proceeds to die again because he's still in the darkness. There were so many times in that level when I watched Dom autowarp to the checkpoint because he was still stuck a mile back being eaten alive by bats  :-\

Its such a well made game outside of that though. But I'm not even going to try Insane difficulty without someone else playing Dom.

I beat Infinite Undiscovery a few days ago so now I'm playing Soul Calibur 4. The guest characters are absurd, Yoda and some weirdo anime girls I've never heard of, but I'm still really enjoying it despite all that. I wish the intro movie was more of a montage of all the characters rather than just 4 or 5 characters.

Nobody ever uses the guest characters online.   :lol  There were a few Shuras here and there when it came out, but now it's all Cervantes and custom Cervantes characters.  You do get a fair amount of Apprentices and occasionally Vader.  Almost never see annoying-ass Yoda.

trying to get back into fable 2 and failing

whatever i saw in the game last year is just gone

everything feels so cumbersome and half assed. like, if i want to move my family why can't i just select them from a menu and tell'em where to go? and booting you out of the menu screen each time you read a book or eat some food is highly annoying. just let me read/eat/whatever  however many items i want at once for fucks sake!!

and gawd don't even get me started on managing your properties. all of that shouldve been handled in the menus instead of walking up to each effin prop and adjustin prices and whatnot.

oh and the nasty blur they got going on with this game is just the icing on top of a shitcake.

Ninja Blade does pretty much suck, but it's enjoyable enough (I'm making it enjoyable since I bought the damn game) and the production values are nice.

Anyway, I picked up Muramasa and it's AWESOME. Visually it's the coolest game I've played all year, and I'm actually liking the combat quite a bit. Soundtrack is great as well. I also heard it's only around 8 hours, so I should be able to finish it up in a few days.

The game will last different times depending on what you want to do.  I just beat Kisuke's story on Musou, and that took about 7 hours to complete.  Next up is Momohime on Shura, which because of its difficulty, should take a bit longer.  There's also three different endings, the "tree stump" challenge rooms, the white barrier challenges (you need the Oboro Muramasa sword to access these), and a hidden boss or two.  So you can make this game last for 20-25 hours or so if you want to.

I'm going through as Momohime on Shura for my first playthrough, and it's pretty challenging, but I'm liking it. I'm not sure if I'll go for 100% completion, but we'll see after I finish the main stories. But seriously, this game is ridiculously good-looking. Sometimes I'll stop and just bask in how good it looks. Makes me want to play Odin Sphere too.

BF: Bad Company multiplayer
KOTOR on PC- I actually owned but never played this when it first came out on Xbox. I can't believe I never played it, as it is in fact awesome. There is a bit too much dialogue for my taste, but its all great. I can't believe that BioWare went from making something this complex to Mass Effect and Jade Empire, which have very light RPG systems. The PC version has some serious design flaws though. The controls are perfect, but the menus are attrocious. They are fucking tiny (see the screencap I took below), taking up less than half of the screen real estate. Also, the text is fucking tiny, with no option to change. Adding insult to injury, there is an option to make the text smaller, which makes it unreadably small. Finally, there is no widescreen option. Apparently there is a mod that can fix some of these issues, but it isn't compatible with the steam version  :( At least the performance is much better than the Xbox version.

Finished Blood will tell, and damn that last boss was one tough mf. Epic game, a damn shame next to no one played it. Has one of the most intriguing story I ever came across and the boss battles where kinda like in Zelda, meaning without the right tactic you're f***ed.

Complaints are that the camera angle often (like in every other 3D game..) is far from optimal and it's a bit repetitive (Like in every other hack'n'slay game..).

Some reviews:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8302316400187183304#

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/r_bloodwilltell_ps2

Quote
None the less, Blood Will Tell is a lot more intricate than at first appears. It may be something of an ugly duckling, and it's depressingly likely that it'll sink without trace as a result, but after a few stumbling steps it soon becomes apparent that Hyakkimaru's journey to find the sum of his parts is indeed greater than the sum of the game's. If you like slashing and hording within intelligently structured worlds and have no problem sinking into the non-conformity of Japanese manga, then Blood Will Tell may well surprise you.

:lol :lol :lol

You don't really play it like that?

Man, drop the res down, turn the AA up and you'll see no difference in image quality AND the inventory will be fullscreen. If you can't, well, then I salute you cause I would never play it that way. Fuck unscalable GUIs.
I'm playing on the highest resolution with AA turned all the way up, and it looks good for a six year old game, but as you can see the menus are a joke. As you said, "fuck unscalable GUIs" :punch

Tried KoFXII

HOLY CRAP THIS LOOKS AMAZING.  Wow, best looking 2d fighter ever?  I think I'm just being illusioned by the SUPER BIG CHARACTERS which is totally cool.

That said I'm not really happy with the movelists.  Leona missing her flash kick "I'm gonna jump on your head and own you" move sucks :(  Terry not having Power Dunk sucks.  :(  Also even with install the load times are kinda long for me on PS3 :X

Just noticed Legacy of Kain Blood Omen is up on PSN.

That's what I'm playing.

Have you played the PS1 version before? do you know if the load times are still incredibly long?

I wanted to replay the game a few weeks ago but was too lazy to search out my old PC version (don't know if it would even work).

Yeah, I played it on the PS1 back when it first came out and haven't touched it since.  I downloaded it earlier this morning and haven't gotten around to playing with it yet.  I'll let you know about the load times though.  It's got to be better, right?

I can't imagine it getting worse.

Playing Might and Magic 4 and 5 off GoG.  It's nice to take a break from the rhythm game stuff.

Playing a copy of VOLFENSHTEIN I borrowed off a friend. Also playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which is interesting in that Eastern European way

Blood Will Tell/Dororo is fantastic.  It's up there with Shinobi and GunValkyrie as one of Sega's hidden action masterpieces.  Good story (based on Tezuka manga), tons of bosses, cool game structure, good real ending.

Trine.

The World Ends with You.

WTF with TWEWY. Jesus Christ, do people seriously control the dude on the bottom while playing Simon on the top? I can barely get the man to dash with any sort of consistency.

Totally janky, frustrating, yet ambitious and compelling?

No.  To play effectively you'll need to shift your focus on which character has the ''light puck''.  The green light that passes from player to player after they complete their attacks.

Yo man, a lot of people are thrown off by it. You dont have to touch the top screen at all. Set it to auto or whatever.
