I'm also surprised SE didn't try to differentiate FFXIV from FFXI more in terms of setting -- it appears to be a separate world, but in the same style with the same races etc.

we already pretty much know it's a MMO, unless Rapture is a different game altogether which is unlikely

FFXI was awesome...ish. Updated FFXI aesthetics with post-WOW gameplay (not a total grind, xp boosts for quests...soloing) could be shit hot. We'll see.

The game is Rapture, which is the FFXI sequel the FFXI team has been working on forever.

They had FFXI races in the CG FFXIV trailer and the title is Final Fantasy XIV: Online just like the full title of FFXI is Final Fantasy XI: Online.

It's the sequel to FFXI and people are so desperate for a big Sony exclusive to latch onto they ignore the fact that it's a MMO. FFXI fans are happy though since the game needed a big update like this.

That was a tech demo produced by the FFXI team as research before starting real work on FFXIV. It wasn't FFXIV, any more than the FF7 PS3 demo was FF13.

It's still dreamy. I remember when the shots came out. If the final game is anywhere near the concept (they've had a few years to built the world), it can be fantastic. If I was SE I'd expand on the bots (partners w/e) from FFXI and make it something like Guild Wars where you can have a full party.

I love MMO's, but rarely have the time anymore to dedicate to them. :'(
