Could someone well versed in action games tell me what makes Bayonetta so great? I have limited exposure to the genre, but I played the demo and liked it
just from the demo:
--fast as fuck/hectic
--Combat system (combos + dodges/witch time + weapon switching) is easy to learn, but deep enough to play forever. Seems like it's based more on reflexes/feel instead memorization of dial-a-combos.
--Some good risk/reward set ups-- taunting makes enemies more aggressive and do more damage, but you get more points when you kill them. Baiting enemy attacks so you can dodge and go into witch time is fun.
--Then there are advanced techniques like attack/taunt buffering.
--the enemies put up a good fight and do lots of damage. It's hard but fair, aside from the occasional off screen attack that blind sides you. But even then, the controls are so responsive that you really only need a second to react.
--Every fight is graded and it has a scoring system that means something. This makes the game very replayable and feeds the OCD.
--The boss fights, just going by the ones in the demo (the huge statues and Jeanne in the PS3 demo) seem pretty awesome.
