This game is worth buying a 360 for.  Don't play the gimped version.    :-\

Finished the game in 13:09.  The timer keeps going even when you're just sitting on a menu screen, so an hour can easily be shaved off from the actual play time.  Beat the last boss's ass on the first try this time, barely even using any health power-ups!  The ending was satisfying, the credits had some interactive elements (play a verse for like 20 seconds, Wario Ware style), and afterwards, you get a music video of Bayonetta and friends dancing around.  Hard difficulty is now unlocked; not sure if I will start on that immediately, or go back to normal and grind for cash to buy everything first.

Bayonetta is now my favorite action game this year.  Uncharted 2 has been dethroned.

Gallery mode gets opened up.  You can view concept art, character models, soundtest mode, and the music video that plays after the credits.

Definitely.  It seems like you'd have to if you want to fight the hidden boss, too.

I like that they let you replay chapters on any available difficulty, too.  The achievements are also broken up into blocks of levels.

I've played their demos but could have told you Bayonetta beforehand.  GoW is action-lite, though fun.

Quote
Some quotes from EDGE:s 10/10 review.

Review calls the platinum brawler "flawless" and "the kind of game you dream of playing

- "From start to finish its intricate and intuitive fighting system is a masterclass, and it even finds time to reclaim vehicle levels. This is about as good as it gets," the magazine says."

- A thirdperson action game from the same school as Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta has just memorised the best bits and burned down the building, its combination of seamless animation, sensory cues and riotous imagination setting a new standard."

- Edge says the combat system "breaks new ground" and the story is "funny", but also finds time to be tender in places.

- It's a beautiful and graceful fighting game that lets imagination loose, and winks before slapping Dante, Kratos and every other hero back to the drawing board."

Edge bringing the truth.

I'm not buying it though.  I have my japanese demo and U.S. demo...the japanese one tears all the freaking time and drops more frames.  It doesn't get anything approaching 60fps in the first scenario.  The U.S. one doesn't tear and runs smooth in the interior parts of the first section.

and the enemies attack more frequently.

Changed my mind after doing it again.  Originally I only played the clocktower stage and didn't know what the fuck was going on but after screwing around with the other section, I'm sold.  Seems pretty awesome.

And holy fucking shit at the difference between the 360 and the PS3 versions.  I had both running at the same time and I couldn't believe the gap was that big.  It's like 2007 all over again.  It'd be better to just forget the PS3 one even exists. Totally unacceptable.

You have to if you want to unlock everything and get those 'cheevs!  With plenty to unlock and rankings for each level, there's plenty to go back to.  I've decided to hold off on hard until I've unlocked everything first...hard KICKS YOUR ASS.  I couldn't get past the graveyard level at the beginning.   :o

just from the demo:
--fast as fuck/hectic
--Combat system (combos + dodges/witch time + weapon switching) is easy to learn, but deep enough to play forever.  Seems like it's based more on reflexes/feel instead memorization of dial-a-combos.
--Some good risk/reward set ups-- taunting makes enemies more aggressive and do more damage, but you get more points when you kill them.  Baiting enemy attacks so you can dodge and go into witch time is fun.
--Then there are advanced techniques like attack/taunt buffering.
--the enemies put up a good fight and do lots of damage.  It's hard but fair, aside from the occasional off screen attack that blind sides you.  But even then, the controls are so responsive that you really only need a second to react.
--Every fight is graded and it has a scoring system that means something.  This makes the game very replayable and feeds the OCD.
--The boss fights, just going by the ones in the demo (the huge statues and Jeanne in the PS3 demo) seem pretty awesome.

Going to go back tomorrow and finish the game, this time with a well-stocked item inventory.  If it's still too much to handle, it's level grinding time.  The fight before the last boss wasn't that special fight-wise (and was the only one in the entire game that was kind of dull), but had an awesome, awesome finish.  The story took a turn for the serious, but I can forgive it since it was at the very end of the game.

The most important part of the game play is dodging.  Timing is everything, and you need it to win.  Getting witch time can really turn things in your favor-- I can't imagine how much harder things must be on the hardest unlockable difficulty...there's no witch time!   :o

So it's like God Hand?  :hyper

swaggaz: If you recall I don't like DMC (or NG) and I love God Hand. Should I like Bayonetta, too?

I'm not really too big into these 3D action games.  The only one I played all the way through prior to Bayonetta was Devil May Cry.  Was never much for the others; played enough of them to get a feel for them (except for DMC3, and I'd like to play through at some point), but I loved Bayonetta.  It's the fighting and dodging system that does it.  I was playing NG Sigma 2 right before I got Bayonetta, and now that game just feels archaic and dated.

Tristam, it doesn't play anything like Godhand, but it's just as awesome.   :D

bayonetta kicks all sorts of ass.  something about dmc4's controls didnt vibe well with me. bayonetta is fun right off the bat, over the top, and the dodging system gives you some breathing room when shit gets chaotic. i kinda wish there were more visual cues to when enemies attack because the angles feel pretty far at times. overall i will most likely day 1 this bitch.
