I haven't gotten to the oil rig yet. My last heroic effort was the defense of Taco Taco.

Oh. Yeah, I thought it was just alright up until the oil rig bit, although I liked the second Favela bit as well. Starting with the oil rig, it basically felt like Rainbow Six: The Game of the Movie of the Game, or something. Never really got into the standard war stuff. The story only gets stupider, though

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The breach and clear stuff isn't the only thing borrowed from The Rock.

The breach and clear stuff makes me itch for a new Rainbow Six, though.

Everyone's saying they won't buy it because of the dedicated server nonsense, but at the end of the day it's MW2 and gamers are pathetic.

The only PC people who will buy MW2 are gullible idiots who buy a PC from Best Buy and the peon at the store tells them they need to have MW2 on their new Acer with integrated Intel graphics.

PC FPS fans are playing Valves games and waiting for Bad Company 2 in March.

The 360 version doesn't have online problems.  The 360 version doesn't have rampant cheating.  The 360 version doesn't have anyone playing on a 56k connection.  The 360 version has host migration.  The 360 version doesn't take up 15GB of space if you install it.  There's no problems with the online.

PC gaming  :lol

Face it. Infinity Ward made this game with the 360 in mind.

Single player on normal was about 6 hours.  I don't remember how long CoD4 was on normal.

um, fun-ish single player I guess.  Better than CoD4, and still don't really like the single player much, but there were some enjoyable missions in there.  Best was probably Gulag or the second big snow level (in Act 3).

and no one on my steam list is playing this so I can't try spec on  :'( I wish I could just play with random people like in L4D.  It's Halo 3/ODST all over again.

I'll play with somebody on Spec ops and I haven't done any of the missions but I can't play until tomorrow.

I'll repeat I love the multiplayer. Put in some good hours today and while I'm sure I'll have complaints I can legit say this has definitively retired COD 4 for me. And I enjoy it even more. I like the maps a whole hell of a lot more. And my #1 complaint of grenade spam is gone for me. So I'm fucking happy.

You only get 1 claymore once you unlock it and it replaces your frag/semtex grenade in your inventory.

Interesting. I won't comment until I unlock that but honestly I was a claymore whore in COD 4. I would camp out somewhere and then claymore all entrances and essentially kick ass with that forcefield around me.

I can see the argument for reducing claymores to 1 for a balance thing because even though I loved doing it, it was vaguely cheap. ;)

Nice session. Got TDM MVP and the final kill of the game was a knife throw, got to call in a Pave Low and my K/D ratio is finally above 1.00 after the Domination setback.

Not sure if I see any point in ever straying from the L86 and Glock18 combo.

Hey guys, does MW2 allow for multiple players on one Xbox 360 in online versus?  I see it allows for 4P on one console this time; CoD4 was only 2P per system and offline-only.

EDIT: Never mind, offline-only again.

In Halo terms, I hate people who whore the sword, needler, warthog turret, spartan laser, and ghosts. I won't use those things. I'll rarely pick up a sniper rifle, and that is usually just so the other team can't get it.

The story in this game

spoiler (click to show/hide)
is pretty much just as terrible as MGS4. Probably worse because EACH MISSION near the end tries to bang you over the head with some GIANT SHOCKING EVENT(s). It's hard to have those "oh my god" moments when they pretty much throw everything at you every 5 minutes. Jeezus is the ending awful.

Both are stupid, but I give MW2 the advantage because it has a hard on for The Rock instead of Mr and Mrs Smith.

At least you play more than you watch. At least I'm assuming based on other CoDs. I don't own this yet.

The term "play" is thrown around a lot these days.  If you saw the E3 demo where the guy spends five minutes climbing some ice and considered that "playing", then yes, you play more of Modern Warfare 2.  It's like Act 3 in MGS4 again.  Boring sequences you can't skip, even if you've done them once already.

you climb the ice for about a minute and you know within the next minute and then the rest of that mission is a send-back to all ghillied up, which is awesome.

how do the kill streaks stack now? I mean, for the 11 kill streak, do they expect you to get 11 kills with one life or 5 one life, 6 in another.  I know that if you got a drop and UAV, the UAV is available after the drop.

yeah, the rest of that mission was probably my third favorite in the game.  But that climbing sequence was way longer than a minute.  And I was talking more in general about the many scenes in the game where you just stand and stare (you can slightly pan and tilt the camera around) or they do something to force you to witness an event.  It's pretty much like the nuke scene in the first game done ad nauseum.

The killstreaks stack and are saved. The stacking is what is called a LIFO (or FILO) queue. Last In, First Out.

So for example:

3: UAV
4: Care Package
5: Sentry Gun

You can earn all three without using any and the one shown on your DPAD would be the Sentry Gun. As soon as you used it you would see the Care Package on your DPAD. As soon as you used that it you'd see the UAV.

Followup question from somebody.

Quote:
Does is matter if you die? For example, if I used the Sentry Gun and died, would I still be able to use the Care Package, then UAV?

Originally Posted by IW_Scriptacus:

also, death streaks are kinda cool if only for the copycat ability.  If you ever thought that the enemy only beat you because of their load out, you can steal it and realize that really, you just suck.

The death streaks are a nice touch. Whenever I go on a streak where I'm getting killed I know I enjoy the little boost to try to get me back on the right track.

I also love how they handled the kill streaks with that info I posted. There was a lot of pre-concern before the game came out that things would be "crazy" because all that those kill streaks would be going off, but the way they implemented it so your kill streak can't get you a kill streak on your next life was the perfect way to handle that.
