Aren't Disney going pretty ruthless with cuts tho? Doesn't sound like much is safe.

A trailer for Andor S2 leaked.
Pretty sure this one is safe.

Yeah. Party Down’s new season was great. I’ve been under the impression this was it, and it felt like it until the ending scenes. Either way, as a comedy revival, maybe the best?

Beef is pretty, pretty good.

Covers a whoooooooole bunch of stuff and gets pretty philosophical, explicitly in a scene where some characters do hallucinogens, but also a lot of implicit stuff about how the world is and how people behave.
As a fellow Gen Xer first generational who grew alongside the internet myself, the "Is the way things are now online somehow our fault?" hit hard.

Also A+ 90s alt rock soundtrack for no real reason? Tori Amos, Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, Offspring, Bjork and Sugar Ray?  :lol

Watched two episodes of Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies on Paramount. It's fairly enjoyable, although not particularly brilliant as a musical. It also continues the proud Hollywood tradition of casting 20- and 30-something-year-old kids.

I guess there'll be some blowback on social media. One of the musical numbers is something like "What would the world be without boys?" It's not clear, but one of the Pink Ladies may be asexual and another is a tomboy who only joins the girls after she's rejected for membership in the T-Birds.

Beef is great. I love/hate watching characters do stuff that they shouldn't be doing and then watching them suffer the consequences.

Such uncomfortable viewing.

Second last episode of Mandalorian was decent. On to the last episode now, not expecting much.

Edit: Glad they finished the season on a clean slate. It needed a reset as things had got quite out of hand.

I know they won't do it, but I'd love for them to go to monster/bounty of the week episodes

I have a sneaking suspicion that is all going to work out for Nate. He's going to get fired by Rupert for sure, but I don't think that's going to bother him because it'll be a choice between being a football manager or being happy. I think he'll pick being happy and that means choosing the girl, his family and being on good terms with Ted.

Finished From Season 1 (free on Amazon Prime).

It was a good ride, but not necessarily a good show. Some sloppy writing and poor acting, with some predictable plot points.

And half the twists are stolen wholesale from Lost.

That being said, it's been 20 years since Lost so Im happy to watch this odd side-make.

Hibby. - A Hibs fan. An ordinary, normal person. Jambo - A Hearts fan. Typically a sour faced, NIMBY cunt. Most commonly seen demanding to speak to the manager in Waitrose. Buying Logan Hearts would be the equivalent of buying the Yankees for a Red Sox fan

I’ve been watching From while recovering from surgery since it leaves Amazon in three days.
I like it, but these shows that don’t explain anything and then get cancelled idk the point.

I do like that it’s a bit creepy at times. I feel like there’s almost no horror tv shows that are actually unsettling. The gore is pretty legit too.

It’s good. Will watch S2, but hope I’m not wasting my time.

Also wished the show leaned more Silent Hill than Lost/Blumhouse. The OP feels Silent Hill-ish.

So I've got three eps left of From S1 and my one complaint is that the monsters feel kind of non-threatening? Like they move so slow I don't understand how people can't just run from them into a building and be safe.

Succession ending messed me up a little. Not so much the textual aspects. That too. More a form, format, media sense. The context of sensibilities pre steaming service bloat pre COVID concluding. The last of that age I got super absorbed into. Something in my brain switched to content tourist mode and the disposable nature of those connections. Stepping out of the weeds, plenty of media I’ve watched these recent years, the names of characters don’t stick. It’s okay. It’s not impeding the entertainment. But somehow Succession, I know Fikret is Kendall’s barely seen driver. Think if I started it now, I wouldn’t be as invested.

Anyway, being super rich looks awesome.

Gonna check out that Arnold show on Netflix. Apparently it’s pretty good.

On S2 of From and this show is so much nonsense that the explanation for it is going to have to be all kinds of dumb I feel.

Basically like "these are characters in a videogame" or "aliens running sim tests" or something really dumb.

Chickens and cows and stuff spawn randomly in grasslands

From S2 was pretty bad. If S1 was like a good B+ start, S2 was like a D+ side season of nothing happening and no one talking to each other and everyone acting like idiots. I'm probably gonna skip S3.

S2 felt like "we've written a mystery box show and S1 was good enough to get people hooked, but we only have enough plot for another season or two, and we want to keep this gravy train writing our checks for years now that we have an audience, so let's just do nothing for the plot in S2 and hope we don't lose too many viewers"

I finished Silo on Apple TV Plus and it is a good show. If you like sci-fi, dystopia, etc, you should watch. Without talking about plot, some commentary about the overall show.

Excellent production values, excellent actors, generally good writing and intriguing mystery/hook.

That being said, it isnt perfect, and many of the flaws remind me of Severance, also on Apple.

Both have incredible starts. The first two episodes of Silo are fantastic.

But then you start to notice that it's a 10 episode season, and the last episode is going to end EXACTLY where you think it will end. In both shows, there's a twist/mystery/theory and you know youre going to get part of an answer to it about 30 seconds before the last episode ends. And you know its going to be one of two things.

That means episodes 3-9 have pacing issues in which they're half filler and every episode needs to end with a hook even though maybe narratively the hook would have been better earlier on. And oddly theres no B story to fall back on. We constantly meet new people but focus on the same 4 or 5. If they wanted to pad, it would have been better to get more of a glimpse at life on other floors and such.

Severance is similar. We get extended scenes of the main character doing boring things instead of switching up to someone else.

The thing is, even though its on streaming and there are zero constraints to length, the episodes dont vary much in length so again, it feels like theres some padding. Ie, episode X SHOULD have been 30 minutes and episode Y SHOULD have been 90 minutes but instead theyre both 45ish.

It doesnt kill the show, but it's a little frustrating that there's clearly an Apple TV formula theyre forced to follow.

To add to that, there is zero sex* on either show. Like I cant even remember if there was a kiss.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Severance has a scene that is sex if you know it but a 10 year old wouldnt
[close]

Im not saying this is bad. In fact its great to recommend to your mom. Im just pointing out that theres a clear rule coming from above on what it and isnt allowed.

Some plot specific issues I had

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I think they did a bad job with the size of the Silo. We are told it's 10k people and that's their entire universe. And yet characters are CONSTANTLY meeting new people. I get you won't be on a first name basis with everyone, but considering everyone is basically a cousin, it seems like if you dont know a person youd know their parent/kid/partner

Also everyone is always moody. Again, small universe, life isnt actually that bad. Everyone has food, work isnt that hard. And yet every person Julie meets is a complete asshole. Always "wtf do you want" and never "congrats on the job good to meet you". It seems like cheap writing because it is constantly pushing the dystopian theme.

The also screw up the size in the last two episodes. The start of the show makes the size very clear. Its 6+ hours to get from top to bottom. You need to rest. People at the bottom dont really see the people at the top.

And then in the last two episodes Common and the Mayor are basically teleporting back and forth constantly. Julie takes a shortcut to the very bottom and 10 minutes later theyre both there.

Just some ranting because I could be a better TV writer.

Platonic - Well made, performed and pretty funny, but the story kinda falls off. It's cute at first, but Seth Rogen's character is actually just a shitty person and the show just kind of excuses it instead of dealing with it. Comes off as pretty unrealistic and unsatisfying imo.

Finished Twisted Metal

It's not a great show, it very much rides the line between good silly dumb fun and bad. I'd give it like a B- overall.

But I also agree it's way better than any live-action adaptation of fucking TWISTED METAL has any right to be and it's weirdly faithful to a bizarre ass (but great!) game series and its storylines. Hats off to them for pulling it off. The show is definitely TWISTED METAL.

Never watched HOMELAND originally, so sitting down with the wife for a couple eps each night.

Clare Danes shines, partly due to realistic reactions as a bipolar person. She wears her heart on her sleeve, seems always ready to be hurt.  Has a good mind and makes intuitive leaps, but can’t communicate them to others.

Mandy Patinkin brings surprising subtlety to his role.

If someone had told me Morena Baccarin gets her kit off in the first episode, I’d have been watching much earlier.

I hear s2 is good, but it falls off in quality until the final season, which isn’t horrible. So I’m in for s2.

I watch season 1 of homeland all the time and my partner doesn't understand it.

Like, what’s not to understand?

Carrie is a savant, but broken. She’s bipolar, and hides it from work so she is allowed to to her job.

Brody is also broken, hides it from his work so he can carry out his mission.

Unfortunately I’ve started s3 after s2 finished so well, and this is the Alien 3 of the franchise. Trust built and accomplishments made in the previous story are sacrificed carelessly. They’re like caricatures of their previous selves.

Telemarketers was so good. I recommend not watching the trailer to avoid spoilers, the fact that they managed to get that type of footage before smartphones is incredible.
