wow, fringe is probably the best sci-fi show on tv right now.
YES! :rock

the whole formula of the thing is driving me crazy.  i'm somewhat interested in the overall mythology, but at the end of disc 2 season one, it's "oh this guy died this way?  well BY COMPLETE COINCIDENCE, I JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THAT SEVERAL DECADES AGO.  HOW LUCKY"  also "IT ALL COMES BACK TO THIS ONE COMPANY ALWAYS"

i find these conceits somewhat tedious and i hope they go away before the end of the first season
Monster-of-the-Week format is standalone and fairly lame in season 1. In s2 there's a coherency that is improved from s1. But those two conceits are still there, just a bit better woven in.

Aren't there any hot women in Baltimore? :lol

On season 2 of the wire :bow2

S2 gets mixed reviews from some, but I really enjoyed it. The first couple episodes are certainly slow as new characters are introduced and old characters reminisce about the events of the previous season, but once it gets started it doesn't stop. Frank Sobotka is one of the best characters in the show imo

Just finished the new Breaking Bad ep

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Good episode. Definitely wondering what Gus' discussion revolved around. Given he mentioned making the same mistake twice, I'm guessing he dropped the bomb on knowing Jesse is stealing.

Skylar's change is definitely a welcome one.

Only thing that was kinda "eh" was the new coincidence about the hot Mexican chick's brother. Although given how pissed Jesse was at the end of the ep, this could get interesting.

Pretty much agree with everything, especially that last part. Equally annoying is that it makes last week's acknowledgment of their previous huge coincidence seem like they were just trying to soften the blow of dropping another one on us.

And who'd have thought that Buggin Out could be such a BAMF?

edit: I dunno if this has been said yet, but don't go looking for any scenes from The Shield on YouTube, lest you stumble across the HUGE spoilers that would probably ruin your enjoyment of the series. Don't even type characters' names into Google if you can help it

So far I've watched up through episode 5 of Fringe. I really like it so far, except that most of the bad guys in each episode or basically Snidely Whiplash, always smirking and arrogant but easily defeated. I'm still hooked though so it's not a big issue or anything.

I'm hooked on Supernatural.

Downloaded seasons 3 to 5 in HD (720p). Almost 150GB worth of data.  :lol
Can't find season 2 in HD  :'(

Definitely getting the complete Blu-Ray set (superior 1080p) if I end up liking the whole show.

Wow, that episode in season 2 of Fringe that was about Peter was really heavy, Walter Bishop might replace Walter White as my favorite TV character.

On a lighter note, only 24 hours until season 4 of Burn Notice!!!

John Noble has crafted such an interesting, deep character for Walter Bishop. It's really amazing how much nuance he's brought to a role of such extremes. Several different incarnations, each readily identifiable as the same soul, having been brought to its current point through different trauma. He deserves huge props.

finally got around to watching Prison Break (first season, thanks Netflix Instant).

Man, this is pretty damn good, how steep does the quality drop off later?  If it keeps up this level of awesome, I'll be very impressed.
Well, me from the past, me from the present would tell you that there will be a gradual but undeniable drop in quality very soon.  Watching a guy MacGyver his way out of jail is a lot of fun, watching a show with a sub-X-files level evil and all-reaching conspiracy group is not so great.  Were it not for the entertaining performances from the supporting characters I would have gave up on this show a short time after the fascination in watching Dominic Purcell's helmut shaped skull wore off.

Any show that's wise enough to cast William Fichtner, Peter Stormare, Stacy Keach, and keeps that T-Bag guy around no matter how much they've gotta bend the plot can't be all bad, but I struggle to remember when the last time was a show was so eager to burn off its goodwill.

Oh well, still beats reality TV.

About the The Shield, I didn't really care for (Spoilers, PD, if you haven't gotten there yet in S2)

spoiler (click to show/hide)
how they explained that Mackey and his crew recently turned crooked once he was put in charge of the Strike Team. Now knowing that the change from regular detective/cop to doing extra shady stuff feels too sudden. It feels like he's been that way for years. And I thought his wife was in on the crooked shit (maybe I interpreted something she said in Season 1 wrong), so I was surprised when she was all surprised that her husband was doing crooked shit for money.

I think they explained it by saying that his old captain (gilroy?) was always telling them they would need the money because of how little they got paid.

I remember there was some retired cop that offered Vic a" security consultant" job and when he went to his house he saw him living in crappy conditions and the old cop was telling him how it was because he didn't skim off enough money and that's why he now how to get into private security.

It's funny how on the Shield, they purposely have different badges and wear then in different positions than real LA cops because of  how corrupt they make all cops look.

It's really not as meticulously written or as consistently amazing, but you need to watch the entire series. S5 is probably as good as any season of The Wire. And well, the way it wraps up...god so perfect.

So what about S6 and S7? Is S5 the peak, then it fades away in later seasons?

I'm really digging the show although at times it feels so ridiculous. An entire middle school hooked on heroin, and a police station targeted by a drive by shooting? Makes for good tv but I can't help but go wtf; but then again I live in Michigan so who knows, maybe LA is really like this  :fbm

I just caught up to both seasons of Fringe.  I now have more questions than I had before season 2.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
WTF is responsible for The Pattern?  Did they just disappear after infiltrating the FBI and killing hundreds of people even though one of them warned their goal was to save the local universe from the alternate one?  Mitchell Loeb and David Robert Jones can't have been the only people involved with it.

If the coretexiphan kids can go between dimensions, how the fuck did alternate Olivia do that unless Walternate also gave her coretexiphan?

If Bell traveled between dimensions several times, why didn't he tell somebody about the alternate universe and how they're preparing for war?

I've been watching The Shield as well - I'm a few episodes away from the end of the third season. I think I like the first and second more than the third but it's all great stuff. It's been a fun ride so far - I'm completely unspoiled, which is rare for me and also nice. Definitely not as good as the Wire, but then again no other television show is. Still great stuff, I'm really glad I still have 40+ episodes left of this show.
