cajole is the kiss of death. if he likes it, sure enough, it will be canceled by the end of the season and everyone will rave about it 2 years later

you're horrible at advertising, cajole

Actually shows get cancelled after I take his advice and get ready to watch it. I'm currently waiting for Justified and The League to die

Dunno if I can watch a show with Goggins in it. Fucking Shane  :maf  :'(

People always notice Cajole's recommendations late. They're always great though. :lol

I think I'll start watching the Shield by 2015.
Same here. Or whenever netflix finally gets it.

Rome's first season is great but the second is rather mixed. It takes more historical libertities as it focuses on side stories for the non-historical main characters. And of course the pacing problems hurt it; the writers knew the show would be cancelled so they sped through a bunch of events

I've been watching The Pacific on HBO Go these past few days. I'd love to see how they film the battle scenes in these war shows and movies. It might be better than Band of Brothers in that aspect.

HBO has so much good shit that I haven't seen yet. I'm not sure what I'll start next after this. Maybe a shorter, less serious show like Curb.

I don't know if anybody else watches it but the second season of The Borgias premieres tonight. You can see the premiere for free on Showtime's site. If you like period shows that are about political/religious rivalries and backstabbing, then you will love this show.

Yes, very much so. The show has some mini arcs that are contained into one episode but the season long plots absolutely deliver a huge payoff.

The current season is about to end on Tuesday so it's a good time to marathon through it.

My sister likes The Celebrity Apprentice. I saw the first three episodes with her in February, and then the most recent episode last night.

This show is a good way to realize that celebrities are just as messed up as the rest of us, if not more messed up. Except for Penn Gillette, who is like some kind of geek god. Dee Snider was surprisingly cool, but he fell on his sword while I was gone. Lou Ferrigno is a collection of neuroses held together by nervous twitches. They lost Adam Carrolla right after I left, apparently, and he was the funniest thing the show, with Trump's hair taking a distant second.

It's also great fun to watch Ivanka Trump's voice lessons pay off as she's annunciating her words. The woman has a mouth most facile. :drool

Anyway, it has been strange to see how much less civil the discourse has become between everyone in the month I have been gone. Then again, since this is "reality TV," that balance could all be in the editing room.

Certain actors are very good. Certain actors are not so great. It doesn't change much noticeably over the course of the show's run although especially for what is typical of television sci-fi I think its fine for the most part.

I watched the miniseries and the acting was actually better than I'd expect for a sci-fi channel show.  The drunk camera was more annoying.

I want to start the series proper after Lost.

It definitely has some strong quality actors. Actors who typically aren't in sci-fi stuff. There are also some lemons. Lost and BSG are similar in my brain for many reasons. Both quality shows that suffered a bit from make it up as you go along syndrome.

They were always linked for me, too, Stoney. Ensemble cast sci-fi with mythos that fell apart by the end, but at their best helped push the boundaries of what TV could do. Also both have fantastic music (BSG's is better, though).

I think all 4 seasons of BSG are great. I mean, I understand the complaints, but I still enjoyed about every fucking episode except for maybe Scar.

Comparing it to Lost isn't fair, imo.

Also the worst thing about BSG is the cinematography. It is atrocious.

episodes on netflix seem to be around 44 minutes and that's normal for hour slot shows, unless it was longer when it first aired.

Anybody watching Adventure Time?  I really like that television show.  Am pretty jazzed about the new season.  Watch it!

The main thing that hurt both shows was simply the need to fill out elongated seasons that the networks required of them. I think they were both great shows for the medium of tv. Like Cajole said I think they both help expand the reach of what a tv show could be especially for American tv escapist drama.

The best thing on TV while it was airing, though TV's come a looooonng way since, can't say how it would hold up to a new viewer.

Also, Janine Turner being a Palinite wingnut broke my heart  :'( . She was my biggest childhood crush.

I had the best ride I think I'll ever have watching Lost as it aired but still unsure how to recommend it to a new viewer.

When they nailed down their end date they really should have brought in an experienced scifi/fantasy writer to help shore up the mythos. They got 80% there but man, that last 20%...

I disagree, I feel the show is becoming funnier and funnier along with Jess. It's no Happy Endings, but damn if it's not getting there.

Going through The Wire again, on Season 1. Gotta love episode 5 season 1 "The Pager". The way they handle the call exchanges at the end of the episode, what it pertains to and seeing the unmanned unit getting the numbers but not being able to capture whats being said. The tone is perfect.
