Right now I'm reading:

Vampi an anime-inspired, cyberpunk reboot of Vampirella by David Conrad and Kevin Lau

I remember this garbage.  It's like they did everything possible to rip-off all the popular cyberpunk stuff at the time, like GiTS and The Matrix.  They even had photos of artist Kevin Lau dressed up like Neo.   :lol

In “Age of Ultron,” a story currently being published by Marvel Comics, the Avengers and their allies are on the ropes against their archenemy Ultron, an artificial intelligence who has taken over the world. The story concludes in June and will feature a special guest star: the angel Angela, a character created by the writer Neil Gaiman and the artist Todd McFarlane for “Spawn,” published by Image Comics.

WHA?  HUH?  UH?   :dizzy :dizzy :dizzy :dizzy

IIRC there was some dispute over who owned the character.

Gaiman won and Angela was erased from Image continuity.

It's pretty awesome, though! I mean, if you go knowing exactly what to expect [which isn't hard], it's fun in that everything-is-totally-ridiculous way.

Sure, I guess?  From what I remember of it, it goes downhill pretty quickly and the original creative team left.  Not sure if the series even finished.  People bought it because Kevin Lau's art was kind of a big thing for a little bit.

Meanwhile the current Vampirella comics are pretty awful.

LOL 90s.  You can see how much of a GiTS Kusanagi design rip-off that is, too.   :lol

Of all the "bad-girl" characters, Vampirella was easily the one whose (lack of) costume always baffled me.  She was usually depicted as just going around small town, baring all, and no one batted an eye.

i'm a huge fan of the original delano run.
my first run was the Ennis books and I think it holds up to this day.  I stopped around issue 200 or so making me not that well versed in some well regarded "modern" stuff

I wrapped up the final Manhunter trade over the weekend and wow what a series.  You could tell it was going to die because it was just too weird. It really reminded me of Alias and not just because of the art, but rather because of the lead character.  Absolutely loved it, until the final two "we're cancelling your series, wrap it up" issues which jumped the series 15 years into the future.

yeah, i liked it a lot back in the day. There was that essential whiff of real consequence to it, so rare in DC stuff.

You might want to watch out for the Dark Horse reissue of Dan Jolley's Bloodhound, which was a broadly similar DC series from ages back.

I thought the issue was ok and I see what Remender was going for. You know, mutants should be part of regular society and not separated from being part of the human race, but I guess he didn't get that mutants isn't really the negative word here.

I don't know, I liked Uncanny X-Force and it was the first thing I read when I got back into X-men, which really seems to have been meh since New X-men. But yeah Uncanny Avengers has been meh. But whatever, that seems to be the thing with the X-men books today. Who gives a crap about trying to understand the material! Just let the writers write! Now I've enjoyed some of the recent stories, but I won't say there has'nt been some disregard for whats come before from people like Bendis. Still ok stuff though.

I was initially ok with it as a counterpoint to Scott being militantly pro-mutant, but when it was pointed out to me that Remender considers Alex his avatar in the series, and then Remender got so vicious with his response and posted NOFX's 'Don't call me white', it is hard not to see it as his actual real-world viewpoint on minorities - that they should all just STFU and assimilate. Which is perhaps not the WORST viewpoint anyone ever had on minorities, it's not the best either.

Then again, it is serial fiction and it is always possible that Rogue etc will call Alex on his shit in coming issues and maybe the issue will get worked through sensibly (and squeezed for maximum drama too...).

That said though, 'die in hobo piss if you dun like it' is a really shitty response to one's fanbase

So today we messed with Rob Liefeld at Wondercon.

Back when The Infinite #1 came out, my friend (who owns the local comic shop) drew feet on the blank variant cover as a joke. Another friend bought the issue and decided he was going to see if Rob Liefeld would sign it.

So today we got in line for him at Wondercon and didn't know how he'd react. Either he'd refuse to do it or be a good sport. My friend was willing to offer him $20 to do it if he refused.

We were about fourth in line, and when we saw it he was like..."What's this? (sarcastic) Oh, that's hilarious." He got a bit pissed, but signed it:

i'm home sick so i'm wrapping up some comical books

Saga vol 1. - awesome and funny and surreal.  almost makes me want to read it monthly so i can stay on top of it

Batman vol2 Court of the Owls - i had read this monthly but didn't read the Annual.  I don't know that i liked Snyder's take on Mr Freeze and it makes me wonder why the hell wayne industries is just flat out keeping a woman in cold storage if they won't let anyone try to revive her.  also i really liked the possible new robin in Harper Row, at least for the one issue in which she appeared

attack on titan 4- i really love how he takes One Piece's style of really rubbery cartooning and puts it into an incredibly depressing war manga.  crazy stuff and i absolutely love it.

I think I did a list recently but there is a bunch of good to great stuff:
great -
Wolverine and the X-Men
Thor
Fury: My War Gone By
Hawkeye

good -
Superior Spider-Man
Young Avengers
Uncanny X-Force
FF (the Fraction/Allred book)

there are probably more but would have to go through comixology

Hawkeye is pretty entertaining. Very stylish and pretty funny. Nothing epic, which is why it's fun. I also like Uncanny X-men as so far it's pretty good. Feels like what an X-men book should have been after Morrison's New X-men. If you don't like All New I don't think you should ignore Uncanny as well it doesn't seem to have the terrible slow pace of All New. Then again I don't read anywhere as much as most of you do.   Mostly just Xbooks and I try and pick up in trades of what people speak well of. I think Batwoman and Saga are the only other things I regularly pick up that aren't X-men stuff.

In other news. I read through Fatale Vol.1. It was pretty solid, but I'm not sure if I would want this as an ongoing. I kind of would want this to end and not be stretched out. I remember reading here that maybe it jumped the shark. Should I pick up the next Volume? I mean I probably will as it is pretty interesting.

Fatale is good but best read in chunks, I feel. I get it monthly but usually let it pile up for a while. So reading in trade makes sense

Man finished Messiah Complex. Man that was a fun read. Now there's a good crossover. It had some solid build up, there's a lot of shit going on, a lot of characters receive the spotlight, there's some logical drama, actual relevant character development, and a lot of twists and turns. This was extremely fun. I returned to comics with Avengers Vs X-men and as a whole I thought that was pretty meh, but Messiah Complex was very fun.
