Batman has been pretty good lately, caught up on 14/15 yesterday and it's getting crazay. Still kind of feel uneasy about Jason just bopping along with the rest of the yuppies, he was a pretty good antihero foil before. Otherwise, Snyder can do no wrong. :bow2

Do those Spider-Man changes even matter? Isn't Marvel going to be doing a universe reboot like the new 52 with Marvel Now anyways?

I thought they already did it?

Something I don't like about Marvel is how inconsistent they are. "Let's do digital before DC!" "OK, but let's support three third-party services in addition to our own, and have varying content between them!" And certain series are Marvel Now but some aren't.

Nah, for better or worse, Marvel tries to avoid actual continuity reboots in favour of half-assed retcons.  Marvel Now isn't even that.  It's just a bunch of new #1s.with rejiggered creative teams in the wake of the A vs X storyline.

I like this more than the full-on reboot crap that DC does.  All the comics being re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-numbered to #1, then back to #304, then back to #1 again is pretty stupid, however.

The new comics are mostly focused on the Avengers and X-Men related books.

Yeah, this one's too crazy to stick.  Not like undoing the marriage or w/e.

I dunno, I stopped reading Spider-Man after One More Day.  It made the whole thing feel like a pointless waste of time and money to know such massive changes could be wreaked in such a flimsy way.  It just really bothers me that these guys are, for the most part, just going to yell and scream at ol' Dan but not do what they should do if they dislike it so much (stop buying the damn thing).

so you missed this

What the hell has been going on in comics recently?

the last thing i paid attention to was the One More Day shit they did with Spiderman, Miles Morales in Ultimate spiderman (Comic GAF was salty for weeks  :lol :lol :lol) and that Massive DC Reboot after Flashpoint ended.

Listened to Giantbomb saying that Cyclops is evil now or something?

Basically, read up on X-Men Schism. The X-Men are weak, and they're attacked by anti-mutant people. Cyclops thinks the kids training there should fight and defend themselves. Wolverine thinks that they fight so that the kids don't have to. It creates a schism and Wolverine and Cyclops have this badass fight in the rain and shit, and Cyclops rails on Wolvie's ass, and then Wolverine fucks up Cyclops' shit. Then they go their ways, Cyclops has his X-Men team and Wolverine starts up his own X-Men team in the abandoned Xavier institute in New York.

Hijinks ensue.

Dunno haven't read in a while. I should catch up.

Now there are two titles Wolverine and the X-Men and regular Uncanny X-Men (Cyclops).

Schism is pretty baller. Check it if you like X-Men.

Really don't like Schism or Jason Arron's work on the X-men in general. Just couldn't buy Wolvie and Cyclops fighting, nor can i buy the direction Wolvie has been going.

Uncanny X-Force is where it's at, but sadly it just ended with a rather strange ending.

Wolverine's got a poor sell for sure. Cyclops has the right of it; mutants in the present timeline are almost extinct, and in order to protect mutantkind kids are gonna have to pull their own weight. The cause of the schism is stupid, but the drama that unfolds is money, I think. Then again I'm an X-slut.

I am, but I really don't like how he became the main focus of the X-Men franchise(which isn't the point of X-Men imo) about as much as I hate how my favorite supervillain, The Joker, is the center of fucking attention every fucking time he shows up.

this i agree with. so many characters have too much spotlight that it becomes ridiculous

I'm no expert, but I'll try.

To me Wolvierine should be right with Scott on training the young X-men to defend themselves. I can buy Wolvie caring for the young kids, because he's always had a soft spot. He's a mentor, the wise more street smart then book smart gruff man is his character. I buy him as a man that's trying to be a noble person, but at the end of the day he knows what has to be done and is willing to get his hands dirty. He rather get his hands dirty then anyone else in his family. So in a sense I can understand why Wolvie would not want the young X-men to fight ,because thats what he and other X-men are supposed to be doing. But to me, it seems like he would understand whats at stake and these kids need to defend himself.

Schism seemed to be triggered around Scott using the kids to fight the Sentinel and Oya killing the attacking Hellfire people. The thing about Oya is to me, I wouldn't really see Wolvie being truly upset with it. She did what she had to do. I kind of found the whole thing contrived. I actually think Oya is a really stupid character now, which is a shame because at first I liked her. She seems to be written like she's more of an idiot then just aloof and blunt. Wolvie seemed to mostly be upset that Oya wasn't fazed by what she did, which I guess is cause for concern, but I don't see how that's really the X-men's fault. Scott is trying to protect whats left of humanity and it's really shown that he should and if that means becoming more militant then that's what has to be done. X-Force has shown that Wolvie understands that. While he didn't like what Fantomex did when he shot kid Apocalypse, he didn't remove Fantomex. No, he understood why he did it.  In the end I would have thought Wolvie would have stayed with the X-men. it's his family and that's whats most important to him.

As for the Sentinel attack. To me it was again "well desperate times call for desperate measures". This is the X-men, teens being in dangerous stuff comes with the territory. It's like you've been around so long, Wolvie why does it bother you now? Didn't you bring a teenage girl with you to Genosha, were they were enslaving mutants?

But you know, then comes Avengers Vs X-men and well All-New X-men. In a lot of the material, how much he hates Cyclops is played up. I don't get it. I thought he respected Cyclops, well it seems Bendis doesn't think so. In ReGenesis it was seen what was going on was just a disagreement and both sides peacefully went and carried out their agenda. In All New you have teen Jean reading Wolvie's mind and saying "oh he hates you Cyclops and wants to kill you". In AvX you have Wolvie mentioning how crazy and dangerous Cyclops is. It was just a disagreement about how the X-men were going. It's like I just don't get it.

They have worked side by side, they are almost great partners. I think I would say they are almost friends. I mean Wolvie is basicly the first one to pick up on the fact that after returning, Cyclops is not the straight shooter he has always been. He knows Cyclops very well and completly trusts him. I just don't think thier split should portrayed as so hate filled, which in some comics it is.

But I don't know. I do know I don't like Wolvierne and the X-men as a comic. Wolvie is'nt a leader to me. He's a trusted soldier and adviser. The ultimate support dude. Honestly, I really liked the early Carey run with Rogue as a leader, but that has nothing to do with what I'm saying. But I don't like this comic, because the tone just isn't for me. It's just a little too wacky.

But I also don't like the characters.

Quire-I really liked him in New X-men. He was the smart nerd lashing out at authority. Right in some ways, but still so young that he couldnt get the whole picture. It was a good storyline. Now he's just an annoying brat. I just don't like what Arron has done with him.

Oya-At first I kind of liked her, but she just seems so dumb.

Genisis-Eh he seems pretty one note. I get it your not very confident and you could go nuclear.

David Aja - my favorite artist working in mainstream books by a country mile

Matt Fraction - working on a dumb, simple story actually seems to suit his otherwise trying-too-hard style

It won't last too long, but enjoy it while it does.

Of course he is. I wouldn't say 'ruined' though, given that there is nothing further that could have been done with him in that state. Ditto Magneto/Xorn etc. Weirdly Jean Grey is still dead though. Probably because no-one wants the grief.

Secret Six and her run on Birds of Prey was pre-52, but they're still good. I haven't read her New 52 Batgirl yet, but it's in the queue.

My recommendations for New 52 stuff is pretty boring so far: Batman, Detective Comics, and Action Comics have been my favorites.

Yeah everyone seems to agree that Batman is great and well yeah I want to try and get into it. I've been wanting to read Grant Morrison's Batman stuff for a while as well. It's just the DC universe kind of scares me. I don't really know where to begin which I guess is the point of the New 52. I guess you just have to jump in. I mean I just kind of picked up Batwoman and Justice League Dark because i thought "what the hell".

Morrison's Batman is the foundation for the current New 52 Batman, so it's a pretty good starting place. It's also crazy as hell though, with a lot of Silver Age allusions and stuff that just doesn't make a lot of sense. Read it, but don't worry too much if you don't know what's going on. :lol

Also, if you liked Batwoman, you should read Batwoman: Elegy. It's pre-New 52 but, like most of the Bat-titles, it's still in continuity and it's a lot better than Hydrology. Greg Rucka is a better writer than JHW III.

Go and get Scott Synder's entire run on Batman right now. First 12 issues is the Court of the Owls stuff, which was awesome. Issue 13 was a filler issue, but Snyder says that character will be in more stories next year, and then issue 14 begins the current AWESOME Joker story.

Yup, Schism sucked.  Too much dumb filler.  But that's old hat now anyway.  AvX happened and made Schism completely irrelevant- most of the mutants are back together again, but you have Cyclops and a few others on the run plus Cable and a few others also on the run.  Then you have the original five X-Men in the present time period with past Cyclops wondering how he turned into an old-school Magneto wannabe.

well the Daken thing has been cleared right up

Has it?  Daken killed himself in the last issue of his own book.  Wolverine mourned him and moved on.  Daken re-appeared with no explanation given in UXF and dies again.  Wolverine mourned him and moved on.  I expect to see him back again at some point...just like how Sabertooth died and came back for the umpteenth time recently.  Romulus too.   :lol

I haven't read it yet but Stan Lee has a piece in Amazing #700 so I highly doubt any bitch-slapping was intended.

Read the other Tweets, it's obvious he was just having some fun with it.

DC's new Batgirl editor fires Gail Simone after they butt heads.

Simone cries on Twitter and her legion flips the fuck out and threatens to storm DC's offices.

DC rehires her 10 minutes before closing the offices for Christmas break.

Secret Six and Birds of Prey are awesome, so fuck DC.
Are they? I've been trying to figure out what DC New 52 comics have been good and the opinion has been mixed on everything it seems.

I've only been following Justice League Dark and Batwoman myself. I liked Dark after Miligan left and well Batwoman has nice art and stuff.

Go and get Scott Synder's entire run on Batman right now. First 12 issues is the Court of the Owls stuff, which was awesome. Issue 13 was a filler issue, but Snyder says that character will be in more stories next year, and then issue 14 begins the current AWESOME Joker story.
Can I just follow Batman and be fine? Do I have to pick up more of the Bat family books?

And I picked up Batwoman Elegy today. Seems better then her ongoing so far.

The main Joker story is mostly being told in Batman. The Death of the Family stuff in the other Bat books is just how they deal with the Joker being back. Snyder's story is contained within Batman.

Fantastic Four #57-60 is pretty hard to top

On it.

Well? True story - I read 57-59 as a kid, but never got 60 and never knew how it ended until I got the re-issued Marvel Masterworks TPB of it this summer :lol  I remember being TERRIFIED by Doom's rampage

And #60 was AWESOME. If you don't like that, you don't like Jack Kirby

Well as I'm sure you know some of the issues come with the codes. I don't have an ipad and well I buy the physical copies because I dont like reading them digitally.

So anyway I have the codes for All New X-men, Uncanny Avengers, Cable and X-Force, and whatever issues of Uncanny X-men, X-men, Uncanny X-Force, and Wolverine and X-men had them.

gawd people, the Status Quo Restoration button could not be more obvious for this one, do not panic. Peter's body and brain still live - what was imprinted on Doc Ock's body was just a copy. You could undo this crap in 3 panels if you felt like it, like in a 70's Marvel Team-Up fill-in by Bill Mantlo

I think it was just some fatherly poking at worst.  But he definitely burned Dan hard there, haha.  Didn't know the old guy still had it in him.

Damn, just saw he turned 90 today

I think they'll stick with it for a decent length of issues, like they did with Brand New Day/Big Time.  I imagine it will be something like Dark Reign (when Norman Osbourne ran the Avengers, SHIELD and the whole world basically...) in that it lasted for long enough for the initially fresh concept to get throughly played out and for everyone to get truly sick of it. Not that I loved all those books, but I think that was a credibly 'permanent' and significant change to the status quo. Of course, all those toys got put back in the box quite efficiently and it ultimately didn't have much effect. That's all this will be. The crazy accelerated schedule Marvel is on means that they can get up to that 50-or so issue mark in a couple of years though. If you throw in all of Doc-Spidey's appearances in other books (Avengers, Avenging Spider-man and such), it'll feel like FOREVER I bet.

But you know, in the grand scheme of things (50 years of Spidey books) it'll still be an eye-blink. I'm cool with a change once in a while.

I just hope Doc-Peter doesn't try to rekindle the old flames with Aunt May :yuck
