This looks pretty good. I'm glad to see there's a scoring system as well. Hopefully the game will be designed around it and it's not just a throwaway number. Being built for replays and improving your score (similar to an action game) will really set it apart from all the other samey TPS out there.

Gameplay looks neat. Hopefully it doesn't control like a typical Japanese shooter ala Lost Planet.

Also Japan really should hire Americans to help them out with their cutscenes and storytelling if they want to capture an American audience.

I think the gameplay looked a little awkward like most Japanese shooters.  But it also looked fast and you can do cool physical moves.  Plus nice graphics and robots are good.

But since it's Mikami I think regardless it'll play very well in the end.  PN03 & God Hand looked pretty janky until you actually played them.

God yes.

Look at Deus Ex CG trailer

Quote
The Deus Ex: Human Revolution CGI is a joint venture between Eidos Montreal, Square Enix's Visual Works in Tokyo, and a creative company called Goldtooth Creative in Vancouver.

Initially, Goldtooth Creative created a concept pitch based off the game itself, which had to be approved before Visual Works started building the video.

It was a long process with international travel and daily communication and conference calls across the globe, but it was a fantastic partnership that everyone really enjoyed and we think the results speak for themselves!

The Visual Works team is the industry's best at creating these kinds of videos so from a technical point of view, there was never any doubt that they would deliver something spectacular.

Combined with the direction of the people at Goldtooth Creative, we were able to merge Visual Works' expertise with our Western designs and storytelling and it worked out spectacularly in the end.

Not saying that every game should be like that, but if your target market is the West...well

they need a video that shows off why there needs to be a score box on the screen.  occasionally you see the guy doing flips and and firing from dodge positions and dashing around, but the trailer didn't show much and this new one looked like a regular cover based shooter.  Isn't the whole thing about this game that it's about rhythm and speed or whatever?

I'm thinking something along the lines of a mix of PN03 and Godhand. The videos aren't really showing how the game will be played, I think, rather the individual mechanics and other specific things you'll be able to use while playing.

It's fucking Mikami-chan, it's gonna be awesome. no need to even hope. it's a fact.

In what way? I found RE4 to much slower and methodical. Is the melee stuff contextual? It looked like you could just run up on a fool whenever you wanted.

And also the fact that your weapon morphed or whatever, and how there was a slow-down ability that set off a special type of ammunition reminded me of the variety of attacks you had at your disposal at any time in god hand.

raw gameplay.  the guy playing is playing it like a regular shooter and not dashing around and shit.  at times you see him accidentally do something cool like a flip or dash.

also, the game makes you twirl the analog stick.  I hate that so much.

The big companies (Capcom, Square-Enix, Namco) do hire those people. The problem is, they tend to be the lowest on the totem pole and very few of them ever gain enough credibility to effect meaningful change on the end product. Many fine gaijin developers have been driven crazy by this process.

It's not quite clear to me if this has strafe or not. Would be awesome to play a Japan-developed game with sensible FPS controls for once, 'cause everything else looks really solid.

Other games have worked around this with you takin charge of a grunt on multi/co-op that's just a nerfed version of the hero. Wouldn't be too hard on that front, but then you'd have to create new scenarios for the co-op like Conviction recently did.

No biggie for me anyway, I prefer playin solo and this looks incredible. Makes me want to play ME2 again... If only it played like that and didn't have shitty shitty resource farming.
