I've been upgrading my shotgun now, it's up to level 4 or 5 I think. I just rarely use it since the assault rifle is boss. Anyway, got done with act 3. Game is sooo fucking good. If they actually went the extra mile and adjusted enemy placements and spawns in the harder difficulties, this will be GotY material easily.

I look at Vanquish as being a 3D Contra or Metal Slug DONE RIGHT.  Awesome arcade action; "old school" in 3D.

I just finished Act 1 also. This game is fucking insane. :lol

I finished Act 1 yesterday, loving this game so much. It's like a combination of Casshern, Gundam and God Hand.

Makes sense; in an interview Mikami said that the game's visuals were originally inspired by Casshern.

Yep. He also said that they were influenced by Gundam's orbital colonies.

also, I'm pretty sure I saw some enemies in Vanquish use funnels.

Fuck yes I did Challenge 1. I wish I knew what weapons were more efficient on enemies. Somehow the flying purple guy got trapped behind some barriers so I shot him with Rockets and Sniped from afar.

You have to protect the car. It's an escort mission.

I know you guys want to rabidly TRY to defend it (since apparently escort is cool now), but no. It's an escort, and doesnt belong. The same applies to that dumbass child mission in Bayonetta.

Wait, you like Dead Rising 1&2, which are nothing but escort missions. Sure, DR2 has escort subjects which almost work like your own personal strike team, but DR1 Survivors are walking liabilities just like in every other escort mission. What's the difference?

I absolutely hate useless collectibles.

Yeah, I saw an enemy with funnels too. When he was first introduced, he wasn't doing jack shit as I was shooting him, then he shoots these 4 or 5 glowing purple things into the air which I assumed were bullets. Next thing I know I'm getting fucking murdered from every direction. :lol

Well, I just beat normal. Currently ranked 5th on the leaderboards too. :D

This game REALLY needed another act, but other than that, this game is fucking excellence. I am now convinced that Shinji Mikami is the best game designer in the world -- even better than Tsuneki Ikeda. Provided that the hard difficulties have different enemy placements and spawn, which I saw someone say that it does.

I'm only on Act 4, but yeah, I can already tell that it seems like it will be short.  In general the game seems much smaller than Bayonetta.  I'm hoping that it is a case like with PN03 where it was more just a quick game to buy time and all that, then he secretly is working on something bigger (like RE4 after PN03).

but yeah, is there a guide yet for getting the 112 bullshit statues? Since I'm playing on hard now, i'll do casual next for a no death run and might as well find those statues on the way.

He's also working on that Suda game, but yeah I don't think this is another PN03 situation. I'm fine with the length of the game, the ending is just really abrupt and it's basically a non-ending. It just needs one more act.

Other than that, the one thing that would have made this game even better is if it had a more robust scoring system. Something like Devil May Cry, where you get graded by using variety and playing stylishly instead of focusing on pure speed. But either works, I suppose. Speed is just a little one-dimensional.

It would be so awesome to get bonus points for sliding past a grunt, dropkicking a box, going into slow-mo in mid-air, then shooting him from between your legs while upside down.

I haven't seen any guides for the Pangloss statues either, but someone says there's 4 in each chapter so it's going to be a pain in the ass to search for all of them. Why developers bother with this shit is beyond me.

yeah, it would be nice if scoring was more style based.  Like, one move I didn't know about in the demo was that you drop grenades if you try and throw one while sliding.  But there isn't much of a reason to do that outside of looking cool.

Game would have been on the next level if they removed the arbitrary overheating

Often you want to do this sweet ass combo/setup but you can't because you overheat

As it is it's just an stylized second-rate Gears

You only overheat when you stay in bullet time too long, get hit too much, or boost for too long. It's hardly arbitrary. Melee'ing knocks you into it as well, so it's clearly meant to be a last-ditch move.

Anyway, started God Hard. Looks like there's no upgrades and your ARS meter is only half the size as normal mode. This should be fun.

That's what I mean. Why does my ARS drain completely? It should be used as a last-minute kick-in so I can escape behind a barrier, then deactivate it myself. Instead I have to suffer the consequences by going overheat.

That's what it is though? Once your ARS is gone, overheat is your last-minute kick-in so you can run behind cover. As to why melee drains it, who knows. I guess they don't want you to use a melee unless you have no other choice, or unless you just want to style on some suckas.

And God Hard is indeed hard. Made it up to 2-1 and although it's been pretty intense, the only really rough spot so far has been 1-7. Higher rank enemies everywhere and more enemies in general is exactly what I wanted to see. Bullet-time lasting only 4 or 5 seconds also means you rarely have any breathing room.

:bow Amazing game.

#1 on 3 leaderboards for God Hard now. :rock

Melee drains it cause melee is overpowered and you'd be able to go through the whole game 1-2 hit ko-ing everything. Your bar fills up pretty quickly if you stop boosting or get out of slowmo right before it maxes out.

Does anyone know how scoring works? Do you lose points for getting hit? I only know that you get more points the quicker you finish the stage and you lose points if you die.

Scoring is pretty simple. Just kill everyone and do it as fast as possible. If you finish the stage very quickly you get +5000 points. If you do it not-as-quickly you get +1000 points. Otherwise you just get 0 bonus points.

Other than that, there's also a "bonus" you get from killing enemies, and I'm not sure how you trigger that. Is it from headshots? Or killing guys quickly one after another? I don't think you get the "bonus" when using a turret, so yeah I dunno.

Just got another #1 rank too. :smug

and this right here is why those statues suck

keep in mind how fast you normally move in this game, the fact that those shots were in a back corner, and you were fighting a sub-boss and two or three giant enemies (not including the dozens of smaller ones.  They also shuffle you to the complete opposite part of the level when you play it.

there are other ones that are literally floating in the air, under a light, behind a gold object so it could only be seen at certain angles.

that plus the fact that they literally have all four sitting in the same spot towards the end for the sake of having them.

Finally beat 2-5. Jesus fuck that level was a bitch. It's an uphill battle so every enemy in front of you has the high-ground and cover making it nearly impossible to kill them, you get knocked into overheat in 3 or 4 regular bullets, or 1 bullet from the golden robot, your ARS lasts like 3 seconds, giving you enough time to kill one enemy each time you activate it, and enemies spawn constantly. Shit was a god damn nightmare but I finally did it.

I've got a feeling that's going to be the hardest section of the game. Or at least I hope it is, for the sake of my blood pressure.

PS. Don't replay an older mission if you're in the middle of a campaign run. It'll basically erase your progress for your current playthrough and screw over your total score. Found that out the hard way, so I restarted my God Hard playthrough. Normally I'd be pretty pissed about this, but since this game is non-stop fun, I don't really give a shit. Made it back up to 1-7, been blowing through all of the missions and improving all of my scores.

The best part is there is still plenty of room for improvement, since I haven't hit the +5000 bonus point time on any of these missions yet. Got +1000 and +2000 here and there, but still haven't maxed it out. :bow Mikami making the best TPSs two generations in a row.

Yes, plus it's not filled with bullet sponge enemies. You don't spend most of your time safely shooting from behind cover. Cover can be destroyed. Enemies will just come around or jump over your cover instead of shooting at you from across the map. There's no wait time when switching between weapons.

I don't even know why I'm replying to you. There's no point in talking to you about a game once you've decided that you don't like it.

I like both Gears and this game, it's just Vanquish doesn't have the, I guess, addictiveness GeoW has.
I like both too. Gears2 is addictive because of multiplayer and horde. The campaign is just okay. I'd never replay it if it wasn't for coop.

Sounds like you're trying to max out a weapon early in the game so you can breeze through everything and you're mad cause the game won't let you. There's more than enough ammo drops in the game to max out multiple weapons without thinking about it. Another non issue that you're trying to make a big deal out of.
