So was the first, but they are stupid broke once you got the "take another turn" cards.

Enjoyed them more than Portable Ops. But I enjoyed Peace Walker outside of the stupid co-op requirements/item upgrades bullshit over them.

Phantom Pain would've been good if Kojima had more time. But 1 and 3 are the knock out winners for me.

Never played Portable Ops but I've always been under the impressions that everyone agreed it to be an abortion of a game

acid 1 was good too for sure, but the way movement was handled with in the game was awful. the parts where you'd spend like 8 turns just walking thru a building and having to end a turn in front of a door to get it to open, those just made levels so tedious. also that shit where you'd go into a level and get halfway thru before the game would make you walk back to an  exit to reenter an old level and get an item - who thought that was a good idea?

portable ops isnt complete trash, but anything good from it was taken to peace walker and improved on. unfortunately once you realized you could dash from the start of a level to the exit marker with no consequences it kind of made most of the game trivial.

And it will have actually started development only 3 years prior.

https://shinesparkers.net/metroid-prime-4-might-be-developed-by-former-lucasarts-far-cry-designers-at-bandai-namco-singapore/

Quote
This has now changed with the new information suggesting that said Unannounced FPS/Adventure IP is indeed Metroid Prime 4 but being developed by Bandai Namco Singapore. Now, why does this change things? Well, Bandai Namco Singapore was founded in March 2013 and has thus far only lent development support to Bandai Namco projects such as Mario Sports Superstars or Tales of Berseria, for example. However, digging deeper into the people working at Bandai Namco Singapore now, there are several Western industry veterans from LucasArts (the canceled but highly sought after Star Wars 1313, SW: The Force Unleashed, etc) and Ubisoft Shanghai/Eurocom (Far Cry 4, Far Cry Primal, 007 Legends). These development credits along with the aforementioned FPS/Adventure IP exclusive to Switch complete the puzzle quite nicely as it aligns with Nintendo’s official description form their E3 2017 Fact Sheet and the existing rumblings about Bandai Namco being involved in Metroid Prime 4.

Hiring the Star Wars 1313 dev team, through Namco to work on Metroid Prime 4 sounds like a Nintendo thing to do.

I wonder what came first, Nintendo asking Namco to come-up with a way to build a new Metroid game or Namco saying: "We picked up the Star Wars devs, who's got a project lol"

Disney straight up closed Lucasarts after the buyout. Apparently 1313 was still in pre production by then, but they had a number of other projects too.

But yeah, they hadn't put out a particularly good game in a while

Hmmm, the behind the scenes in Blood, Sweat and Pixels paints a fairly different picture of a game progressing but always being changed around by Lucas and the higher ups until suddenly Disney buys and bam game is canned.

GTA4 is technology impressive, but it really wasn't that fun. GTA5 may not have a lot of it's stuff (does anyone care about car scraping a wall?), but it's way more fun IMO than 4.

3 minutes in and the video is too stupid to continue. arguing in favor of 4's awful melee fighting or its ugly ragdoll physics? bitch please. and ofc it ignores the obvious point that 4 was boring as shit, whether or not you were playing missions.

GTA V is Rockstar's most boring open world game for me. GTA IV's map was used to the fullest extent and its astounding how much is happening on every street, every street corner. And driving is fun as fuck, felt like each vehicle handled differently and had its own weight.

GTA V's map is largely wasted, the story and plot is so much more aimless than IV's, gunplay is so so so bad, no sense of progression in gameplay or story, characters outside Michael and Trevor suck, a busted pick up truck drives and feels like a less fast sports car.

I fully understand criticism lobbed at GTA IV, but GTA V deserves just as much. I will always be confused by how insanely successful GTA V has been.

i replayed 4 when 5 came out bc broke boi, and I can say confidently that all the old criticisms I had towards it were still accurate. I didn't care how many random events the gave npcs when they stripped away all the secondary activities. I didn't care about Niko whining about needing money when he had millions of dollars and a penthouse. and I damn sure didn't care about driving when I had to go the speed limit to make turns or to pay the stupid ass tool booths. 5 absolutely had problems but it succeeded because it embraced the gameplay of the ps2 games instead of stripping them away to give us something slower and clunkier.

GTA IV is a legit trash game, especially since it followed VC and SA. GTA V gets a lot less scrutiny because after IV all it had to do was be fun and have varied missions, which it did.

RDR is better than both by a wide margin.

i want to like this post but I can't because I'd take most of the gtas over rdr

Outside of the setting GTAV is a better game in every conceivable way than IV. Pretty much every character in IV is grating, the story is linear and forgettable, the minigames are dumb and constantly getting called by your dumb npc buddies to do pointless, boring minigames was annoying as shit.

Agreed; as much as like Michael as a protagonist, GTA writing is at its peak when they're focusing on comedy and satirizing shit.

Tommy and Claude are similar to Trevor, though they're not played for laughs as much. I wanna see more of that

I liked Michael, he's a surprisingly interesting character for a GTA game. Trevor was kinda fun, but Franklin was... just there. Had the most boring motives and went nowhere with it. The best part of his plotline was Lamar.

But I really liked the kind of dynamic having multiple character allowed the missions; hoping for a modern day Bonnie & Clyde or something of the like next game. Preferably at Vice City with the neon 80s stuff turned up to 11.

In III it felt like he was the one sane character in that city, tired of everything and still having to deal with all these weirdos calling him.

In V he was like a completely different character. An interesting character nonetheless as a satire of those celebrity types, but still, someone else entirely

San Andreas had the best story and sense of place, but was let down by some of the missions being straight bullshit. I still remember that mission driving around with the dude on your car trying to scare him and how frustrating it was.

GTA 5 has the best difficulty curve, IMO, in that the missions are engaging but never  really feel unfair or random.

Largely though... the saints row games were better gta games than gta.
